Hi everyone!
Sorry for my English but I'm Italian
I'm an iPhone user and I don't know anything about Android, but I'm going to buy an Android smartphone and I have wavered between the 4X HD and the One X.
Generally I find the 4X HD better, but now I'd buy the One X because of its lots of ROMs.
On the 4X HD there isn't the root access ( for now ) but you know that a video showed the 4X running a beta version of CyanogenMod 10! Now, I know that "CM 10 on the 4X" isn't equal tob "root access" because it woulded be a developer version of the 4X, but why was the CM team supposed to work on the 4X HD if nobody can install their ROM on it?
What I mean is that, in my opinion, there's a way to have root access on the 4X HD and maybe somebody already knows it, but doesn't tell us how to have it....
But I'm just a 16 yo boy and an iPhone user, so I'd like to hear your opinions, too. What do you think about the root access on the 4X HD?
Thank you very much

that must be a no in stereo patience though, and it will show up.
whats the fun about having a root'd phone, and not getting any roms or any news kernels to use with it.
its like having lots of money, its no fun if you got no one to share it with
Enjoy the stock while you can
the cyanogen mod developer you saw was using a developer version of the 4X, it probably had an unlocked boot loader that allowed him to install a different rom with root access. These phones are only available to developers and are not the same as retail version. On the retail version they lock the boot loader and secure the access to the internal system folders so no one can tamper with it. Eventually someone might figure out how to Root the device and then we'll have all the access we need.
Bear in mind that Rooting any phone will void your warranty and you wont get support from LG if they know it's rooted, you'll have to be sure you want to do it. So far in some of the phones I've seen they could be Un Rooted to regain the warranty, a Rooted phone has it's advantages like the App called Cerberus which has a feature to not get deleted if the thief factory resets the phone so you could locate it again.
Any time I have a problem with my HTC Sensation I come to XDA for Solutions, and thats rooted and bootloader unlocked.
I'm hopeing to get my hands on the 4X once it's realeased in the UK

in our case with the Tegra3 chipset, we have another problem, which is the secure boot, which is locked by SBK (SecureBootKey) that is also needed to flash a new boot or getting a unlocker from LG, which is previously seen by Asus being distributed.. on some other tegra3 models they solution was simply booting into fastboot and sending "fastboot oem unlock" but i have personally not been able to run fastboot.
but root is not the only requirement to get CM10 we need more , to be able to flash their changes or even boot it.

Hi!
Please correct me if I am wrong. I am confused a bit about locked bootloader and SBK.
- Locked bootloader prevents device to run custom ROM and custom recovery.
- SBK is kind of encryption when sending command in APX mode.
This means we need both unlocked bootloader and SBK for rooting 4X right?
Thanks

you are correct
and that means its kinda useless to buy/keep the phone, because we probably never get CM10?!?
I don’t think LG will unlock the bootloaders...
HTC initially never unlocked the Sensation bootloader but it still got unlocked by devs.
We just need to find an exploit somewhere and someone with the knowledge to use it.
Problem that I can see so far is that the phones lack of availability is restricting the user base.

well, HTC and their mobiles got a huge fanbase, so comparing Tegra3 to that kind of community with 1000+ downloads on a mod, is not really nice
with Tegra2, we got the bootloader hacked in the Acer500 section.
but Tegra3 comes with the SBK and encyption of partitions on top, and even APX mode is not compatible yet.
its a long way to go to achieve some root functionality and CM10.
I'm more than likely going to be putting my AHD up for sale on ebay in the next couple of weeks and I need to know what all I should do before selling it. I'm assuming take it back to stock ROM. Since the bootloader is unlocked I should just advertise that as a feature maybe? I've never sold a phone like this. I'm not sure how to list it since it's boot loader unlocked, rooted, and has slimbeam ROM on it, Do I take it back to stock and list it as stock ROM, rooted, Bootloader unlocked?
**I'm currently drunk so sorry if this doesn't make sense.
first of all after you snap out of it
first thing to do is bring it back to stock then delete all your personal stuff and if the phone has a Sd card keep it also give a reasonable price to the phone and list all the features and happy selling
Look for an app called nuke my phone on play store.

Fastboot a stock, do a full factory reset (I recommend Bell JB since it has the most Locales -- language support -- and is the same as Mex Retail other than that...like a one week difference in the build dates)
Install CWM and do the install-recovery.sh tweak
Root it
List it as a Stock Rooted Phone with CWM & Unlocked Bootloader. Provide a link to us. Let the buyer decide what to do from there.
That gives the the best of both worlds -- a stable stock rom, root, and CWM to do backups and restores.
Can the Moto X bootloader be unlocked? I ask this because from what I understand (correct me if I'm wrong), the bootloader must be unlocked in order to flash custom ROMs. Also, I'm aware that there's a Developer Edition of the Moto X that has an unlocked bootloader. This question is for the standard Moto X, not the Developer Edition. Thanks!

AFAIK, there are some models can not be bootloader unlocked, the AT&T, Verizon, Nextel Mexico. Others are bootloader unlockable.

Unfortunately, I have Verizon Wireless. I was originally planning on switching carriers in order to get a Nexus 5, but when I heard about the Moto X being $150 off for Cyber Monday, I thought I'd look into it. Must you have an unlocked bootloader in order to flash a custom ROM or can it still be done? The ability to flash a custom ROM is a must have for me.

Well, in order to flash a ROM, you'll need to have a recovery capable of doing so. In order to flash a recovery, you'll need an unlocked bootloader. Ergo...
The only reason bootloaders get unlocked is so that custom recoveries can be installed. Not just to flash, but also for backing up. Stock recovery doesn't really do anything but factory reset.

You can root and flash roms without an unlocked bootloader. Look at the Development thread, there are root/recovery options for 4.2.2 and 4.4. There isn't much development happening. If anything we're probably going to get stock based roms for the most part.

Out of curiosity, why is the ability to flash a custom ROM a must-have? I felt that way at first, but many Moto X users (including myself) now believe that a combination of root, Xposed and GravityBox is enough.

But isn't safestrap that weird hack that leaves the original system alone and just sticks another install on the device? I wanted to get a vzw S4 until I learned I'd be stuck with the original bloated OS installed along the one I want (if I'm understanding it correctly)

If you can flash a custom ROM with said "safestrap," what's the point of having an unlocked bootloader? What can you do with an unlocked bootloader that you can't do without one?

You can flash other versions on your phone. I unlocked my bootloader and flashed the Verizon version, just because. I came from a Latin American version of the phone.

I don't quite understand what you mean by "flashing other versions on your phone." My question is what's the advantage of having an unlocked bootloader. Also, are there any disadvantages of flashing a custom ROM with a safestrap?

Normally, it's to allow you to flash a custom recovery, so that you can flash the plethora of zips you can find. The disadvantage with safestrap is what I said above: It's a hack that leaves the original OS on the phone, just sitting there taking up space. You know how the S4's only came with 9 GBs free on the 16 GBs? Well, if I bought a verizon one, I'd have to safestrap CM or whatever on to the phone, so I'd be left with the original TW hog and then lose more space to CM. I mean, if you can deal with that then you're golden. But it is still a disadvantage. And I wouldn't do it (which is why I ended up not buying the S4, even though I really wanted it).

So if I want to replace the original OS with another ROM I'd have no choice but to unlock the bootloader and use a custom recovery? Also, is it possible that an OTA update could break the safestrap, or stop it from working anymore?
Ok, rather than this unnecessary back and forth, if you have Verizon and "flashing custom ROMS is a must for me" like you say then just get the Verizon Developer Edition which has an unlocked bootloader and be done with it.

I was simply trying to understand if there's any practical advantage of having an unlocked bootloader vs. using other methods such as a safestrap. If I can get a custom Moto X at a discounted price on a 2-year contract, I'd much rather go that route instead of paying the retail price for a Developer Edition.
Hi folks.
Been rooting and replacing stock ROMs on android tablets for about 3 years now (usually cyanogenmod). I just ordered a ME176CX.
Can the bootloader be unlocked? Can cyanogenmod (or some other android flavor) be installed?
Thanks.

There is no known way to unlock the installed bootloader on the device, although there is the theoretical possibility to boot a custom bootloader on the device. Making that work, however is quite complex and requires low-level knowledge. Because of this, there is also no CyanogenMod available for this device.
Rooting is easily possible, however.
Hi! When I got my R1 HD, I wanted to get Lineage OS and TWRP. I tried everything including:
adb "fastboot oem unlock",
SP Flash Tool, and
DirtyCow R1-HD Tool,
yet I found no luck. Does anybody know how to get an unlocked bootloader and TWRP on an R1 HD v21? Thanks!:good:
P.S:
My "Custom build version" is:
BLU_R0011UU_V21_GENERIC. Also, this is not the Amazon Prime variant, however I got this from Amazon (for example: I get no ads).
Sorry to tell you, but version 21 of the ROM cannot be bootloader unlocked or rooted. The more recent updates have secured the phone so that none of the previous methods you mention work anymore. The phone is no longer being manufactured and Blu does not provide a process for unlocking the bootloader as some other companies, like Motorola, do. So even though you paid more to get the no ad version, you can't root it. 8-( This was only possible in the earlier versions of both the amaon and non-amazon models.

No, sorry - there is no known way to root or flash modified software after the phone has been upgraded with factory software. You can't go back. And, even if you could, it wouldn't help - it still couldn't be rooted or flash a modified ROM. Blu does not offer to unlock bootloaders the way some companies, like Motorola, do. Your phone is stuck with what you have now.
The best thing to do now? Enjoy your cheap android phone with great performance for the price!

No - all those things require root, which you can't get. Only the phones that were shipped with earlier versions of the ROM and hadn't been updated over-the-air could be unlocked and rooted.

Thanks,
Edit: yep, saw in another thread anything above 8.1.
Imma email Blu and see if they'll loosen the restrictions if they're stopping development. Can't hurt at this point.
