Need some help with my Z3+, but my issue seems different from the other ones I've seen.
Please tell me if I am posting in wrong forum.
As per title, my Xperia Z3+ will not start no matter what, no LED when charging too.
BUT! If I press on the back of the phone when plugged in to power, the phone will start. It shows the black Sony logo on white background for a couple seconds (with red LED) and then goes all black, no lights.
I have managed to pull up the "powered by android" logo a few times but once I release the phone goes all black again.
Would like to see if you know a fix.
P.S. Out of warranty, unrooted, stock 7.1.1
maybe it needs a new battery

Thanks! Also seen that battery stats seem inconsistent, random drops between reboots. Will see if I can buy a new battery soon.

May be or May not be, but to avoid further damage, it is better to check with authorised service centre. If the issue with only battery, you can replace battery purchasing from outside (Online). If it is major problem with Mainboard etc... go for a new phone as the repairs cost big

Thanks, will see if battery fixes it first before checking with service center.
Late reply, I know.
I didn't bother sending it to service as I gave up on it. Took it out a couple days ago, hooked up to PC and ran software repair and for some reason it works now.
Hope this may help anyone who has similar problem.

whether the phone heats up before repairs???

Hello all,
My Xperia was in a serious bootloop that I couldn't fix, not with pc companion not with flashtool flashing stock roms. So I gave up and sent it to the closest Sony Mobile certified repair store, it took them one month to tell me they couldn't fix it, they said they opened it, changed the battery and it still had the same problem so they also gave up and gave it to me, they did say the problem could be the motherboard. I'm now living in Brazil and getting a motherboard for the c6602 is impossible first of all because the phone was never commercialized here (and importing is impossible, it'd take 2.5 months and they'd charge me 200% of the part price, unfortunately that's how Brazil works ). Something interesting that happened is that when I got my phone back they had solved the bootloop issue but they created another issue, the phone starts makes all the sounds the screen turns on BUT all you can see in the screen is the black color, so the backlight is on but nothing shows up.
Could I be able to fix this via software? or the only option is changing the motherboard (or maybe fixing something on it)?
If any of you knows how to fix this I'd appreciate an answer.

Because I sent it to sony and they said the problem was the motherboard and the problems the phone's been giving are pretty random, for example at the beginning the problem was that it had random reboot each one with more frequency, it when from that to just work with the ac adapter connected, it went from that to a bootloop of just showing the sony logo and restarting, after I got it from sony the problem is that it boots app (without needing to be connected) it makes all the sounds like it was working perfectly but the screen is ON but black. So because all this I'm convinced it's the motherboard.
I see changing the battery didn't fix your problem.
I think it's so sad that this phone with just more than a year of life are getting this serious problems and sony isn't doing **** to help us. They keps my phone 1 month just to tell me that it couldn't get fixed, they said they changed the battery and all but still the same problem. I've reached a point when I just don't trust sony anymore, I'm getting a galaxy s4 on monday but still I wanna fix this crappy-phone.
Well, in my case it happened out of nowhere, I wasn't doing anything special with the phone..., I'm thinking maybe restoring the TA partition would fix something? I don't know... I found the motherboard for 80 euros in aliexpress
I just got the lollipop update and was going through the new features when all of a sudden the display went blank and then some coloured lines started to appear vertically on the screen. It was connected to the charger when this happened.
Anyone has any idea what caused this? :crying:
Is this a hardware or a software issue? Is it anywhere related to the lollipop update? If yes then how do I go back to kitkat when my screen doesn't show anything
Its not even one month and this happens. Should I return it to flipkart (the online store where I bought it from) and get a new piece or should I go to Motorola service center who charge Rs.6000(approx $100) for a new display.
(this is my first post so please forgive me if it's not according to the rules or if there are any mistakes)
If you haven't unlocked your bootloader you are covered my Motorola Warranty..They will replace your display free of charge...
BTW if you are still within the flipkart Returns limit contact them and have them give you a new phone..

I haven't unlocked the bootloader so yeah I hope motorola service is good here and they dont take weeks to get it done.
So you think its a hardware issue right?

The only way i know to check if it is a hardware issue is to flash a different ROM and see if the display works... I'm not sure about your phone but in a laptop this can happen due to an incompatible display driver or if the GPU is shot....And you can't revert to kitkat without rooting and voiding your warranty.... Better play safe and get the phone looked at by Motorola...
Hello !
A few weeks ago my XZ fell down and the display (glass, lcd, touch) was broken so i had to fix it. I decided to fix it by myself, i bought a display and started to do it on my own. Everything went fine. After I finished i wanted to charge my phone and the red (bright) led was on. I knew, that this was the symbol for charging so i was happy and waited a few minutes. But my phone never went on, there was no Sony Logo, no battery logo, nothing, no vibration. I decided to take another look into my phone, and checked if anything wasn't right reconnected, but everything was correctly. With still no success i thought, the battery was dead (because it lay down about 4 weeks with no power) and ordered a new battery. I inserted the battery, but all i got was this damn constant red light. (at the beginning its a bright light and then switches to a darker light).
I read about 5 Million forums and got in contact with flashing my device. First i tried it with the Companion (no success), later with flashtool (no success).
All i have to say is that, i dont even now if my screen is working, i easily come in fastboot/flashmode and i'm definitly at the end of my possibilities. I need someone's help, and if you say my phone is completely damaged, then please say, so i can stop working on this matter and sell it!
Thank you very much, and sorry for the long read.

Maybe motherboard got damaged or check the connections
I checked again my inner phone and, okay im new in fixing phones, but it seems to me that nothing got damaged, everything looks fine, the flex bands don't look different as they are shown in the videos. The connections are 100 % connected. But i have to admit: New battery -> not working, check connections -> all are stable , PC companion repair -> nothing. After all i think i destroyed something but i cant figure out what. On Monday i'll go to a repair shop and let them check what's the issue. If somebody has another idea, please let me know, i will try to repair it then.

Hey thanks for answering! As i mentioned in my starting post, my PC detects my phone without any problem. I also used PC Companion to repair my phone. So i dont think it's a software matter. Also Flashtool detects my phone, i could even install a new software.
But i gave my phone today to a repair shop, they'll analyse the problem... for 20€.
I'll tell you what exactly is damaged in a few days if somenone has the same problem like me.
I destroyed the Display Connector. Sold my phone for around 40 euro. -.-
My phone's screen just went black suddenly while i was using the phone last night. Nothing i do will wake the screen up, i tried rebooting by holding the power button, tried power+volume down also to boot into recovery .. no response. However the phone seems to be functioning as i can hear the screen lock sound. I think im stuck on the pin screen (the one to pass the boot-up-encryption). theres some vibration and feedback when i randomly press on the screen too.
The device is running Stock 6.0.1 , unrooted , stock kernel. Has this ever happened to anyone else ? could it be a software issue ?
I believe the LCD panel just went dead ..
Thanks!
Have you hooked it up to a computer and tried to see if it's recognised by ADB?

I had a nexus that had a faulty screen and randomly shut off or something half the screen will glitch out and one day it just stopped working but I could hear the lockscreen sounds. Your best bet would be to send it in for service maybe its a loose connecting or a hardware issue. When mine started acting up it was a loose connecting so if I hit the phone with my hand it would go back to normal and then it stopped working. Its a common issue if you do a google search many people have encountered this
That sounds to me like a return-under-warranty job. If you were in the UK you could quote the Sale of Goods Act, which specifies that an item must be of suitable quality and last a reasonable amount of time, but in my case when I returned my faulty N5 to Google after 18 months they were as good as gold, didn't quibble, simply replaced it with a refurbished one which appeared to me to be indistinguishable from brand new.
Since by definition your phone must be very close to its warranty period, depending on when you got it, I'd start with that. This is the link I used from the UK - maybe different if you're elsewhere, but you should find a link called "Get a call from a hardware specialist":

That makes sense. could be just a loose connector between the LCD panel and the MoBo ..
Problem is i live in Jordan and I got the phone from Dubai. Its still under warranty of the seller (Souq.com ; an online store .. kind of like Amazon of the middle east ), So i have to send my phone to Dubai to fix it. Now i could just go to a local phone repair shop and ask the guy to check the connectors, but im afraid that would void the warranty and not solve the problem ;( .

The phone eventually turned on, I've tried turning off location, rebooting still having issues. Sometimes the battery saving mode stops working, i.e. it cannot be turned on. As I can see the problem concerns a large group of users and nobody knows what this problem is related to. Google is silent as usual. Is this a problem with the software or components ?! I am in a bad situation because I have no warranty for the device and I do not know where to send the phone in Poland because no one knows what is the cause of the problem. Help me please.

Had this.
This is going to sound dumb:
Shut your phone off.
Now squeeze the phone around the G logo on the back (like you're trying to compress it).
Now turn it back on and charge normally.
This is potentially only a temporary fix as I have no idea how this would be software related.
If you can enter bootloader mode, you still have chance to save your phone by yourself :
(1)Make sure there is fastboot&ADB tool in your computer
If you don't have it, please download from here(https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools). To click the one depends on which one of OS you have and then install in your computer
(2)Download google factory image file from here(https://developers.google.com/android/images). To choose the model of your phone and download it then extract file.
(3)Reboot your phone to bootloader mode. Then use USB cable and make phone connected to your computer USB port. Then execute the window commend mode. key in
fastboot devices ===> make sure your phone being catched by your computer
flash-all ===> To build up a whole new pixel OS in your phone.
Good luck !

Ive had my pixel 4 xl since november and it just started automatically shutting off when in my pocket all by it self a few weeks ago , took cell phone to my sevice provider and they sent it in for repair ...received a new phone ...well refurbished p4 xl only to have if start happening again days later and have the 50% battery start happening also ....contacted google and they are in the process of sending me a new refurbished p4 xl , so this will be my 3 rd p4 xl ..lol
very frustrating to say the least ....ive had to hard reboot my phone at least 20 times a day or basically keep it out of any pockets , the is common issue apparently with pixels phones from what i've read in the link https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/22397169?hl=en
I've talked with loyalty department at my service provider and if it happens again with the pixel that google sends me , then they will allow me to void my contract and supply me with a new device from a different brand ...ie Samsung or apple or whatever else is available on the market right now on there website.
i'll be really bummed if i have to switch to a samsung or apple buuuuuut need a stable device ...lol
So to anyone having this issue that still has a basic warranty, there are at least 2 options ...rma device over and over till you get one that doesn't have this problem or contact service provider and explain your situation and most likely they will be understanding to the fact that you have purchased a 1200.00 phone that requires constant rma's and hopefully allow you to exchange for a different brand of phone that doesn't have this these problems

I fully understand you. I am in a worse position. As a loyal Google fan, I bought my pixel from someone who didn't have a proof of purchase. In Poland it was difficult to get it, and as it was 1.5 times more expensive than everywhere else. It seems that I can throw out the pixel and buy another phone for a lot of money. I am most annoyed by the company's attitude. It looks like they are xxxxx on us.

This is the "No Warranty Solution" : Flash a full factory image and allow it to completely wipe your phone. This is the second step Google support would give you (the first is doing a factory data reset from Recovery). If after flashing your phone, restoring it to the original "out of the box" state, you still have a battery issue, then the next step is to replace your battery. If you forgot to state in your OP that your bootloader is still locked (so you can't flash the image) then you need to do that first. Bottom line is you need to factory reset the phone to rule out a software issue. If the restored phone still has the same problem, then you need to focus on the hardware. Best of luck. :good:

Same happened to me with 4 XL 64.
I've been able to "fix" with the turn off and squeeze but the problem has turned into the battery discharge displayed gets stuck at a percentage and it won't charge. I have to turn off & squeeze to get it back.
Finally called Google and they are making me send my phone in for repair. Now I assume for turnaround sake, they'll just send me a new refurb back. That also means I'm not confident the problem will be resolved as there are over 150 replies on the Google Support page identifying this problem.
https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/25796722
Looks like some folks are getting a replacement before sending the problem phone back but others are required to send it in or drop off at repair facility.
Good for me? I have Preferred Care and I'll keep sending them back until I get one that works.
Bad for me? I'll have to keep sending them back + I splurged on the orange color so I doubt I'll ever see that again.
I've actually dealt with this. This is a hardware issue. I had the same problem. Covered by warranty, I took it to ubreakitifix after contacting Google and they took care of me. Trust me this isn't a issue where you can flash this or squeeze that. This is a hardware issue on Google's part. There's nothing you can do as a phone user about a defective battery in a 6+ month old $1000 phone

You might be able to convince them to send you a device before you ship it off, citing the current global situation and a need for a cell phone
OP lives in Poland and has no receipts or warranty. Poland is not a supported country so he is looking for "non-warranty" solutions.

The return process was pretty great. I shipped my existing phone off on a Monday (Illinois to Texas) and by the following Monday, I received my exact phone back (has a screen protector on it). I was very satisfied with that. HOWEVER, the "repair" still has an issue where if I charge to 100%, the icon stays at 100% until I reboot and then it'll display the correct battery %.
The repair documentation was a bit vague and said they replaced the "charging port". I still believe there's a unannounced hardware issue. Can anyone say, class action????
---------- Post added at 04:16 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:49 AM ----------
I wonder what the next step would be if I started another repair claim?
Holding the power button down for more than 3 consecutive seemed to solve a similar issue for me. My P4 was holding certain percentages for too long (even though the phone actually lost more).

This post seems to have been ignored. If it happens to me, I'll try that. But my carrier purchase didn't qualify for Google extended care add-on. Standard warranty only. Does that make a difference in what Google would do in this case?
I use Accubattery and monitor charge cycles for "battery wear". Even following "Battery College" recommendations, battery health has dropped from 99 to 95%; I've had the P4XL since November. I'm now slowing the charge, getting away from power delivery to see if that helps slow the wear. SOT varies greatly per charge.
I use a belt pouch for carrying phone while away from home. Rarely, I put it in my pocket but do so at home- front pocket only- never back pocket. May just be bad phone batteries from what I've read.

For 5 weeks my Pixel has been in the authorized repair center in Germany. They don't have parts to fix it. They told me that. It is not known how long this may take. I haven't had such a circus with a good smartphone. I love Google products, but I feel very disappointed because Pixel cost me a lot of money and this is definitely a factory defect.

Sorry to hear this, and surprising, as Germany is a supported country with many authorized repair centers. Did you send it to PSC? They claim to be Google-certified and have all factory parts? COVID-19 may also be delaying things. Hope things turn out well for you. :good:
