[Fix] High Impedance Mode All The time - LG V30 Themes, Apps, and Mods

Thanks to DTDMike & SeptFox
I found a little difference from the mod for the V20 but got it working with a slight edit for the V30's config
Volume will now be louder but LG Hi-fi checker will still say normal mode. Root is needed at the moment.
Copy file into /system/etc and override existing one

Suggestion: fully document the changes you're making, so future generations aren't in the situation that you guys were in the other thread/people can just do the changes themselves (in case other modifications are present, e. g. I plan on modifying mine so v4a can affect ringtones/notifications, copying your file would overwrite that).
The LG app not showing the right mode isn't encouraging, would seem to suggest it's just blindly writing settings based on the headset type it thinks is plugged in, without reading anything first... a bit sloppy and potentially unsafe in my opinion.

Yep was going to and forgot
Code:
<!-- ESS DAC START -->
<path name="headphones-hifi-dac">
<ctl name="Es9018 AVC Volume" value="0" />
<ctl name="Es9018 Master Volume" value="0" />
<ctl name="Es9018 HEADSET TYPE" value="2" />
</path>
Is the change made in mixer_paths_tavil.xml

Works great!
Though I could not find a way to remount /system/etc as r/w when booted up whether in a file explorer or termux.
Mounting /system as r/w in twrp and using the terminal to manually change the values from there worked though.

So there is no other way to install it without rooting my device if no, Then how do i root my V30 ?

EDIT: ALL V30/V30+/V30S can now be bootloader unlocked and rooted.

You need a V30/V30+ variant which is on the LG Developer Bootloader unlock list. There's instructions down in the development section, if you have one of those phones.
Right now there's two European phones on there, but soon the open market US998 V30/V30+ should be placed on there.

Thank you, but I just replaced the file with ES File Explorer end rebooted the phone and now there's no audio at all :crying:
edit: H930 no branding
edit2: ouch, I found my mistake, i replaced the file in /etc, not system/etc... Can someone please send me the file from /etc?
edit3: no reading permissions. I apologize and will return to my abyss of shame...

But you are rooted and everything is fine now?

Yes, the file just did not have reading permissions for some reason. Now it works like a charm, unbelievable sound in combination with v4a . Thank you.

truth. unbelievable sound with V4A... and even better with WETA drivers on the WETA rom. HIM volume is a life saver. dream phone!

Apologies for a total noob question, but I am stuck.
I successfully unlocked the bootloader on my v30 via LG dev site (status=unlocked and I get the extra boot screen), but cannot copy the .xml to /system/etc. with ES file explorer, I have no write permissions.
I tried to enable 'root explorer' in the ES file explorer settings, but got the message "sorry test failed, this feature cannot run on your device".
I can only assume that unlocking the bootloader does not equal a rooted system. The app root checker confirms this, I have no root permissions.
What steps am I missing?

I realize you wrote this before our extensive conversation in the other thread, but I'm answering it anyway un case someone else has the same question...
You need to flash root via TWRP, either Magisk or SuperSu.
Unlocking bootloader is first step, installing TWRP custom recovery is second step, flash root via TWRP is the 3rd step.

I was just using my beyerdynamics custom street with the lg v30 and i don't know how or why the v30 triggered the High impedance mode it was always in normal mode but today it was in H.I.M and the sound quality was.just amazing and now i plugged them back its back to normal mode does anyone have any idea how can i trigger H.I.M whenever i plug my headphones ? It they have a detachable cable, it matters which order you plug everything in. Experiment: cable to phone first then headphone, or the other way.

Yea i did try that mate it connects as an aux device the volume increases it works well but yesterday i don't know how i connected the cable normally and it turned on H.I.M and the audio quality was just epic quality + good balance and soundstage so that's why i wanna trigger the H.I.M somehow

Hey i copied your changes to my LG V30's xml file but now i want to chnage it back to Stock. Can sombody maybe upload the original xml file or tell me what the original Values were i cannot quite get it the way it was stock. Thx

Did you find the original one?

Hey, here is the original mixer_paths from my H930.

Doesn't seem to work while playing DSD files. At max 75 volume seems like stock. Regular non dsd audio is loud even at 40.

Hi,
for me this XML doesn't work anymore with the new Oreo update, do you have any suggestions please? Thanks

[MOD/HOW-TO] Remove hard key vibes via android.policy.jar

I thought I'd offer my solution to disabling the hard key vibrations on the Atrix since other people might find this useful. This method differs from the other solutions in that it doesn't tamper with your Silent Mode vibrations (like StreakVibrations does) and it's code based, so it shouldn't tamper with any themes you have installed (like the framework-res.apk method). It is firmware dependent though since it's a code modification.
You'll need an android.policy.jar modified for your firmware.
What I'm doing is I'm modifying the method called performHapticFeedbackLw, and telling it to skip triggering the vibrate pattern for all effects (there are 5) except for keyboard taps. Long press vibe, virtual key vibe, safe mode disabled vibe, and safe mode enabled vibe will no longer trigger... Incidentally, does anyone know what safe mode on this phone refers to?
To use the file, you need to be on Bell, Telstra, GingerBlur, Gladiatrix or stock ATT 1.8.3 firmware, and be deodexed. Can you copy the file to your phone without being deodexed? I don't know. I'm a programmer, but an Android newbie so just to be safe it's best if you're deodexed.
Before you try anything, obviously make sure you are backed up. At least copy your existing android.policy.jar so that you can restore it if necessary.
All you need to do is either:
a) Run the novibes.bat script packaged in the zip. There are a couple prerequisites:
1. Make sure to set your USB connection to "None" on your phone.
2. On your phone, go to Settings > Applications > Development and make sure USB debugging is turned on.
3. Plug your phone into your PC and let it install any necessary drivers.
4. Then you can run novibes.bat.
or
b) Follow the steps outlined below to do it manually:
1. Replace /system/framework/android.policy.jar with the one that I've attached.
2. Make sure the permissions of the file are set to rw-r--r-- (thanks for reminding me, Meloy and for correcting, natboy!). The easiest way is to use Root Explorer, long press the file, choose permissions, and set owner: read/write, group:read, others:read. Otherwise, use Terminal and type "chmod 644 /system/framework/android.policy.jar" without the quotations.
3. Reboot.
For those not on stock Bell, I'd be willing to modify your android.policy.jar and post it here if you provide somewhere for me to download it, and specify what firmware it comes from. It's quite quick to do once you're set up so I don't mind. Alternatively, make the change yourself:
1. Download baksmali and smali (both .jars and scripts, total 4 files).
2. Copy /system/framework/ from your phone to your computer.
3. Copy all the files from step 1 to the framework directory from step 2 on your computer.
4. Unzip android.policy.jar and copy its classes.dex file to the framework directory on your computer.
5. From the command line, navigate to the framework directory and run "./baksmali classes.dex". It will create a directory named "out".
6. Open "out/com/android/internal/policy/impl/PhoneWindowManager.smali" in a text editor.
7. Search for a method called "performHapticFeedbackLw". Go to near the bottom of that method, and you will see the Dalvik bytecode representation of a switch statement:
Code:
.sparse-switch
0x0 -> :sswitch_27 #This is for long press vibe
0x1 -> :sswitch_35 #This is for virtual key vibe
0x3 -> :sswitch_38 #This is for keyboard tap vibe
0x2710 -> :sswitch_3b #This is for safemode disabled vibe
0x2711 -> :sswitch_3e #This is for safemode enabled vibe
.end sparse-switch
8. Here's an example of how you might want it to change. Basically you want to replace the original goto labels with one that causes the method to step out without triggering a vibe, and that notifies the calling method there was no vibe by returning false. The label to use is called ":cond_1d":
Code:
.sparse-switch
0x0 -> :cond_1d #This is for long press vibe
0x1 -> :cond_1d #This is for virtual key vibe
0x3 -> :sswitch_38 #This is for keyboard tap vibe
0x2710 -> :cond_1d #This is for safemode disabled vibe
0x2711 -> :cond_1d #This is for safemode enabled vibe
.end sparse-switch
9. From the command line in the framework directory, run "./smali -o classes.dex out". You now have a new classes.dex that has your modification.
10. Zip up the classes.dex with the META-INF directory from your original android.policy.jar. Rename the zip to android.policy.jar.
11. Copy the new file to your phone and reboot.
12. At this point you should be done.
Will this be possible on the AT&T atrix? I currently use the streak vibe method but I'd like this much better.

Check out that thread over in general. The info for how to edit framework.res is there, but there is a flashable .zip that will disable the vibrations in either stock/rooted 1.83 or Gingerblur 3.5 for you.

Yes, this would work perfectly fine on ATT. You can either follow the instructions I provided, or if you like you can post /system/framework/android.policy.jar from your phone somewhere and pm me the link so I can download it and I'll do it for you. Also mention what firmware you're on. I just don't want to download hundreds of MB of firmwares which is why I didn't set one up for all the ATT firmwares.
That other method requires editing a file that is guaranteed to change with any theme you install. That means anytime you change themes you'll need to edit that .apk yourself, or wait for someone to bring the change over. android.policy.jar is unlikely to change for themes.
Ok, I've posted a version for ATT 1.8.3 that was given to me by n1ckr0th.
n1ckr0th, let me know whether it works fine or not. There should be no problem, it looked just like the other 2 versions I modified.
Incidentally, he's using GingerBlur 3.5 so anyone on stock be careful (ie. copy your original file to somewhere else on your phone). It shouldn't matter at all because from what I see, there aren't any resources to modify in android.policy.jar so GingerBlur's should be the same as stock. At any rate, it won't brick your phone if you put the wrong one on. I put Telstra's on my phone by accident and it just messed up the the graphics on screen (maybe because the addresses were all wrong for my phone). You can still use adb, or sshdroid to copy and replace with your original android.policy.jar.

What? That can't be right, if you still have the same problem after copying the original file, that means that you must have done something wrong. It's a single file change, provided you returned the file to the original, it will be back to the way it was. How did you copy the file? And also, are you deodexed? As mentioned in the original post, you have to be deodexed, because I don't know the results of using it on a non-deodexed system. Your posted config makes it sound like you might not be.
Sorry, my mistake. It is deodexed, I have just forgot to set the permissions to rw-r-r, you should maybe mention this in your start post. It's all working fine now. Thanks for the good work.
By the way, your mod (android.policy.att_1.8.3.zip) has added an "reboot" function to my phone, it is working well too.

Hmm, how far does it get? Do you at least get to the boot animation? I notice that it may sit at the boot animation for a really long time after changing a file sometimes. Probably updating the cache or something. It's odd that it wouldn't work for you considering it's your file and it worked for meloy. How did you copy the file over?
If you try again, delete the original file, so you can be sure it's no longer there, then try the copy again.
I'm on AT&T 1.8.3. I followed instructions just as in OP (yes, including the proper setting of permissions), but I soon found a significant problem. Everytime I held down my power button in order to invoke the power options menu, instead of the menu popping up, my phone just freaked out (the screen quickly FADED to black and the phone rebooted). I did this about four times, and each time it happened exactly the same. So I brought back the original framework file, and now everything works fine.
Any ideas?
I have no problems with this mod. It works all fine.
Been waiting on this mod. Streakvibrations has me missing my notification vibes. Thank you
It gave me a red light on boot, stuck at Motorola logo for infinity. I booted into recovery and reflashed gb 3.5 to fix it. Ill try your idea of deleting it then moving the new one.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
EDIT: still didnt boot, had to flash again..
I'm getting the flashing red light and rebooting as well. I can't get into CWM though, going to have to flash a SBF. Only think I can think of is maybe the Dalvik cache needs to be wiped before rebooting?
Edit: I'm on an AT&T phone and used GB to deodex as well.. maybe it's not catching all the files..

Are you on stock 1.83? Now that we know that android.policy.jar has some mods built into it for Gingerblur pseudo rom, the att 1.83 file I posted probably isn't ideal for stock users.
If you're on stock, maybe you could post your android.policy.jar somewhere and pm me the link to download. Then I could put together a pure stock att one when I get home.

[Q] In-call volume

Hello, I hope someone can help me.
The scenario is the following:
I've got a optimus black (Obviusly) flashed with the lastest cyanogenmod (cm-10.1-20130221). The problem is the in-call volume, it's as low I can't hear anything if I'm in the street so, I searched posts related with this issue, I found and tried:
-Volume+ --> It was the only which worked but, unfortunately the earphone boost is very slight, so it isn't enough.
-Increasing the volume steps --> This does nothing for my purposes, no earphone boost.
-AudioHack 2.1 --> This neither worked.
So, after I've tried this "methods", I saw in other models (I don't now if in mine is possible) a way in which you modify a file to gain more volume. This is the post I'm refering to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722136
Is this possible in optimus black?
Thanks in advance.

I've done all that you say in your post, I think I'm doing something wrong because when I reboot my phone it doesn't goes further the lg logo. I'm going to explain you how I'm doing your steps.
Scenario: cm-10.1-20130221 with google apps (Last version)
-I use the default file explorer which comes with cyanogenmod (In root mode)
-Then I go to /system/
-After that, I open the file with the default text editor which comes by default with cyanogenmod and at the bottom of the file I write "ro.config.vc_call_vol_steps=5", and then I save the file
-Finally I open the properties of the file with file explorer and I set rw-rw-rw
am I right? If not, say me the way you do this or the step(s) I'm doing wrong.
Thanks a lot

Working screen mirroring on rooted devices

Note: This solution only works on MK2 (4.3)
I have been researching a problem I have had on my SPH-L720 with custom ROMs where screen mirroring with my Samsung TV would not work. Based on a thread I found, I have solved my problem and wanted to share with others who may have a similar problem.
In my searching, I stumbled upon this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50597640
The OP of that thread had several applications that he froze, and made some changes to the Build prop file, and the WFDConfig.Xml file. In the end, I only made one change to the WFDConfig.Xml file, and my screen mirroring started working.
1. Edit /system/etc/WFDConfig.Xml, and make the following change:
Code:
<HDCPValid>0</HDCPValid>
2. Reboot phone, and profit!
My setup is MF9 bootbootloader, NAE baseband, Negalite MK2 ROM.
If I have time this weekend, I will upgrade to Negalite NAE ROM, and test it there.
I take no credit for this solution, and credit the original thread above.
Hope this helps someone!

I copied the file to my PC and used notepad++ to do the edit. Then copied the file back to the system/etc folder on the phone. You'll need root and a root-enabled file manager to write to the system folder. I used Root Browser (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.root.browserfree), but there are several apps that will work.

There are a couple of different ways to edit the file. For me, I used Root Explorer, navigated to the file, long pressed the file name, a menu came up and I chose 'Open in Text Editor'. From there it asked if wanted to mount the filesystem as r/w, I chose yes, edited the file, and saved it.
I couldn't find this line in my file, were you on Kit Kat or JellyBean?
For some reason I don't have that line in my WFDConfig.xml, I am on Baseband NAE, Negalite-wonderom-nae-r11, MF9 Bootloader. Any ideas?

I just upgraded my phone to the exact same setup. When I look at the config file for NAE, it is a little different. But, I *think* the correct change would be:
Code:
<ContentProtection>
<Valid>1</Valid> [B]<------- Try changing this to 0[/B]
<Version>WFD_HDCP_2_1</Version> <!-- Valid values WFD_HDCP_2_0 and WFD_HDCP_2_1 -->
<CPPort>6789</CPPort>
<EncryptAudio>0</EncryptAudio> <!-- Valid values 0 / 1 to indicate Audio encryption or not -->
</ContentProtection>
I have made that change to my phone, but I am at work now so I will not be able to test this until later this evening. I will post my results when I get home.

The fix in the OP is for 4.3 Jelly Bean. I just upgraded to 4.4 KitKat, and will have to test my theory on which setting to change when I get home.
Thank you!!! worked !!
man i was breaking my head on this one.. and soft bricked the phone a couple times trying to fix this, and to think the fix was so damn easy! :good::good::good:
Well, bad news on NAE (4.4.2) - the fix does not work. Under <ContentProtection>, I tried setting <Valid> to 0. When I mirror, I get a black screen with a message that says "Unable to enable Screen Mirroring. HDCP is not supported by the connected device" I can hear the sound from the phone on the TV, but no picture.
I just updated the OP that this only works with 4.3. I have gone back to Negalite MK2 ROM, and plan to stay there until a solution for NAE is found.
Does anybody have any other ideas on how to make screen mirroring work in 4.4.2?
Well i did update to NAE and tested the "contentprotection" value to 0 , also changed the name from Valid to HDCPValid and nothing , the TV says " the dive supports HDCP ? " or something like that .
under Developer options on KK now has HDCP checking settings. Tested all 3 options with Valid=0 and valid=1 and nothing.

So will this work with a non Samsung (a Sony) TV?
Thank you!
Can't find WFDConfig.Xml file in system/etc directory
My screen is morroring great, but no audio
The ""0"" value worked great, I can see my S4 Mini Screen on my Samsung Smart TV but audio only comes from my phone speakers. I am confused. Any help would be appreciated.

This works for 4.4.2 screen mirroring with root/custom recovery

(Hdcpoff_sd800_4.4.2 file 3rd from bottom)
Extract and move ".so" file to system/lib then set permissions

Volume boost without custom kernel?

Hey, I love my nexus 6 but the headphone volume is horrible, recently I had to return to full stock because the custom kernel I was using was causing troubles with my smartwatch (random disconnects, and Google now almost never worked on the watch). Now I am on 6.0.1 and I was wandering if there is any way to get the volume boost I had from my custom kernel with the phone only rooted.

you have to flash custom kernel to get volume boost or you can install 3rd party music play which provides to increase pre-amp(like in poweramp).but 3rd party music player wont be much effective.
Ugh...this sucks because i was using elite kernel and i know for sure that was the problem with the smartwatch...

you can use viper4android to boost audio, but you do need root.

I don't mind needing root, it's just custom kernels that i have a problem with, but i never managed to make viper4android work, is it working with 6.0.1? Can you give mw a link please?

U need no Custom Kernel. Just edit with Root Explorer /system/etc/mixer_paths.xml
Find & change :
<ctl name="RX1 Digital Volume" value="99"/>
<ctl name="RX2 Digital Volume" value="99"/>

What he said.
You dont need a custom kernel to get a volume boost. Just root. All you have to do is edit the xml, adjusting slowly as you go.

you need to use a root file explorer and delete whatever system apps you dont need(for space). also, if you cant r/w, then you dont have "full" root.
