Should I buy the Mi5 now ?? - Xiaomi Mi 5 Questions & Answers

I need to buy a phone. My preferences are good performance, good community support and development and ample storage. Mi5 only comes with 32GB here in India. But given the price to performance ratio, its awesome. Can someone tell me if I opt for this, what will I be looking forward to ??
I've seen the Redmi Note 4 getting more or less regular updates and MIUI 9 is quite stable. Can the same be said for the Mi5 ??
Since it has the SD820, I can assume it won't be lagging any time soon. Since the development looks awesome, the phone isn't going down any time soon. So is this a good buy now ??
Any comments and/or advice is appreciated.

I bought my Mi5 4months ago and I am very happy! for this price tag 190€ for 64GB it's a good deal!

If you like flashing and trying out different roms, than yes!
It's a high performance phone with a lot of options as far as roms, kernels and tweaks go.
As for the MIUI global rom, I can't say that I was satisfied when I was using it. I felt like it was hindering performance, especially since they updated to nougat, and only with custom roms (including custom MIUI roms like MIUI eu) I was able to squeeze all the performance MI5 has to give

i bought the 32gb model too because it was the only one available in india. i bought it in june 2016 .
it is still a good option if you install lineage or any other custom rom the day you get it because miui global is straight up trash.
if you decide to buy this get the black colour( it hides the black bars around the screen) and flash lineage os the day you get it....
also gps is not good.. battery life average at best( after all this time)
much better when it was new...
good luck

Go for it Best phone I ever had after LG G2. But the experience is much better on LOS 14.1, but it's my personal opinion. For 200 euro you won't get anything better.

[Q] Is the mi3 still worth it?

Hi. Thinking of buying the mi3 from merimobiles for 214 dollar. But the phone starts to get a bit old. Also wondering if it still get updates and if it runs miui with lollipop. But my bigest question is it still worth i?.
Worth and use full
I am using this device (mi3) 1year , its working good , and best performance , more customisable, and battery life also good , value for money !! Another brand you will not get this much feautures and specs....
Mi3 users , give thanks for our mi3 device .......
It was a very good phone one year ago, but not now. Better buy a Mi 4i or Zenphone 2
Depends on how much you're paying for it
I think the camera is horrible, battery life is really not that good. There are many choices than Mi3.
My Mi3 is a one year old. Still rocks. Good performance, good quality, good camera, good battery, has NFC. Only drawback is the LTE. Nothing more. But now there are more options available with LTE. Still I won't sell my Mi3. Gonna use my Mi3 until it dies. :fingers-crossed::victory:
I'm planning on buying the Xiaomi Mi3 in the next few weeks and using it for approximately 12 months. Currently researching into the most stable lollipop rom to flash onto it.

Xiaomi mi5 a good budget phone ?

Im thinking buying a mi 5 ?But overall the mi 5 is a good phone?
Well, there are tens of reviews on internet if you want more specific information.
I don't think Mi5 is a budget phone. More than that it is a flagship phone with surprisingly low price. Great design, camera, display etc. I can't find anything better with that money.
Only weak thing in my opinion is MIUI and locked bootloader. I personally don't like it too much. But as long as custom rom development is good, you can fix it. Of course you need a little effort to unlock the phone and install custom rom.
Apart from MIUI I would suggest this phone to anyone who wants not too big display. Now I suggest this phone to anyone who is ready to put a little extra effort and time to make it even better.
Been using MI5 for over a month now. I even unlocked bootloader and custom roms and went back to stock. Snapdragon 820 spec and cheap price, you wont go wrong, though u must consider if network bands in ur area is compatible with this devce
If you can get it at the advertised price or close then there is nothing better at that price point. You really are getting a flagship phone at a budget price.
I like MIUI v8. It is a huge improvement over the previous versions and very stable as I have never had any issues (stock stable China ROM). Lots of useful features, nice theme. Updates every couple of months to include latest fixes and security patches. Nougat will arrive soon I hope. Also have your choice of China, EU, or Global rom.
SD820 is still one of the best around. Battery life is excellent. Build quality is very nice but slippery. Lovely display. Nice size for me. Has an IR blaster that I find useful now and again when traveling. Dual-sim works perfectly and unlike a lot of other flagship phones, it works with 4G/LTE and 3G at the same time which is tremendously useful if traveling to countries that have no 2G network.
Only slight negative is that the camera isn't up there with the best of the best (Apple and Samsung), it's just good.

Mi5 worth the extra bucks?

I am about to buy a new phone, to have at least 2-3 years and i want it to be future proof.
I have to choose between MI5 and NOTE 3 PRO.
The price difference is 70$. Does it worth the extra bucks?
Which one of this devices has better development ? I am really intrested to have a good dev support (lineage, ressurection, nitrogen, xenon and kernels)
Which one should i chose? Which one is more resitent ?
Same company but different commercial line (of product): high-end and medium-low-end; with different hardware "particles" inside and different screen sizes and different weights...
Advice: If you are going for the lowest model of the high-end and comparing that with the highest model of the medium-low-end ... you are not doing a good job in the decision-making process.
The MI company is famous for the MIUI (their rom) and .... are expanding around the world but, for now, they have a presence in their motherland and in the asian market (mostly India); the rest are resellers.
So you should consider, for the final decision, the nation in wich will operate your device.
And if you really want (it's the first item in your wish/need list) a "dev supported device" maybe the MI company is not the best one for you.

I am talking about xda devs software support and i saw it has Lineage official. How it is compared to NOTE 3 PRO?
And the difference between them is only 70$..
So do you think it worths the extra bucks?
Does mi5 have construction problems or heating/throtthling specific for sd820?

Go for the Mi5, it's lighter thinner and the GPU is a lot better.
It's been my main phone for a year now and hasn't let me down once.
And lot's of support for it, LineageOS 14.1 is running great.
The Note 3 pro does have a lot longer battery life thanks to the 4000mah battery vs 3000mah and the SD625 is more energy efficient.
I usually recommend the Note 3 to 9/10 people, since battery life > games.
Although it will run all games just fine, i doubt you can run Google Daydream on it like i am on my Mi5.
As for overheating and build quality neither of them have any problems whatsoever, the SD820 doesn't have the problems the SD830 had.

The Redmi Note 3 is more popular and has better development. But that doesn't mean development for the Mi 5 is bad. And since almost all ROMs are AOSP or CM based these days, the scene is pretty much the same between the two. It's the better phone. If you have the money, the choice is simple really. It's camera, display and performance is excellent, and development is good. It's got Gorilla Glass 4 as well, which is a bonus. Battery life is okay, so if that's a concern you might be better of with the Note 3.

Proud owner of oneplus one. Now 3t?

Hi Friends,
I m from OPO team. Though not a great fan boy of OP, confused to decide b/w OP3T and S7 edge.
Please suggest based on your usage.
Prime consideration on OP3T:
Code:
Battery(:fingers-crossed:), Custom ROM dev support at least for next 2 years(:highfive:),camera(), Dual sim support
Prime consideration on S7 Edge:
Code:
Battery(:fingers-crossed:), Custom ROM, not sure of support as previously owned s2, its development was heavily hindered because of exynos closed source. Camera is where i get attracted to s7 edge. The hybrid slot is the one which draw'd me back. I need to dual sim support, bumped with memory, which dissappoints me here
.
Need ur suggestion on these two devices.
go with the 3t, like everyone says here, if you are buying a phone for its camera u are shopping wrong. use the extra money to buy a real camera.
If you are in no hurry then i'd suggest you could wait for oneplus 5, otherwise oneplus 3t all the way. Samsung s7 doesnt have any custom roms available and personally i hate samsung user interface. Battery is decent not great but then it also depends on your personal usage. it can easily last for 1 day with light gaming, social media and normal usage. Custom roms atleast for now are available in abundance for now, but you cannot say anything about the next two years.

Still think in two years you get loads of ROMs with this phone.
I m getting it for 370$ here.. Way cheaper because of some offer.
Regarding camera:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtmGMcMeEJE
I did the same jump, OPO to 3t. It's great. Only downsides are the curved screen and finding a protector (went with old school plastic ones). Would liked to have front facing speakers, the single bottom firing is just average for loudness at most.
The only thing the S7 has going for it is a good camera and better Resolution display. The 3t display is no slouch though for a 1080p.
I think the 3t will have the same longevity as the OPO with custom ROMs, it's also a solid hardware package spec wise and quality, just like the opo when it was released. The latest stock ROM and beta are super fast and good on battery also, if you want to run it stock for a bit. Normally get 5-6 hrs of screen on time and a day and a half usage. Dash charging is wicked fast too.
I was also a proud owner of OPO ,now I am have op3t and don't regret my decision at all .There are lot of custom rom to try for the device .The performance and the battery life is also really good and you can take some really good pictures from op3t in manual mode and some post edit .
I think this is a good photo from my op3t I have done post edit
also a proud OPO to OP3T convert here. No regrets AT ALL with the 3t. if you can wait, check out the op5 which may be announced in the next 1-2 months. they may also drop the 3t price for that reason.

Question Mi 11 ultra in 2023

I am half tempted buying a mi 11 ultra but is it still relevant in 2023 ?
But my biggest concern is the dead wifi/Mobo since I already own a vanilla mi 11 that needed a board replacement

Very happy with mine.
Was tempted to upgrade to a Pixel 7 Pro or a Honor Magic 5 Pro (I care mostly about the camera) but honestly it's very hard to justify. Pictures remain best in class even vs the latest phones, the phone is really fast, screens good. It's really hard for me so far to get tempted by a new phone. And I do want to get tempted... Maybe will need a Mi 13 Ultra or a Pixel 8 to get me to upgrade (I tend to trust DXO and they haven't ranked the Mi 13 Pro very well. Seems the 11 Ultra still does a better job overall when it goes down to the camera)
So yeah if you find a good deal on one you won't be disappointed.

Thank you for the reply that's why I am tempted to buy it especially since it's cheaper now than most snapdragon 8 gen 2 flagships with basically same specs but as I said my biggest concern is the phone dying within few months as many reported " summer can reach 45° in my area"

I live in Hong Kong, which is pretty hot in summer, and never really had heat related issues (That being, said I don't play games, so I don't hit much on the processor)
For sure if you buy it, you shouldn't pay more than half of a curent flagship price (The phone is 2 generations behind, it should really be cheap)

I can back you on this, I'm also in Hong Kong, Mi 11 Ultra with Global rom MIUI 13 for dinner time already, and i do game, Honkai Impact 3rd, Genshin Impact, Nikke. No heat problem and wifi issues. Great phone, especially at the current price point. Something to stand out from the all look the same phone lines out there.
I agree with all the feedback shared above. It is still a beast of a phone and runs multiple application parallely without any lag. Camera is great. If you are a AOSP fan, you have couple of good ROMs as well - PE+ and Project 404 roms.
Knock yourself out with a Mi 11 Ultra
I bought an used Mi 11 Ultra for 500 Euro a week ago and i rly like it ! I couldnt find a phone that i like more than this despite it being a 2 years old model.
It was with China ROM and 2 days ago i installed EliteRom free version (had to wait 1 week for bootloader to be unlocked). So far great experience.
I am planning to try some magisk modules i found here on the forum for underclocking for better battery life.
Hi guys can you give us info about battery performance with latest updates? Or comparisons with other phone you been using. Thanks
After a long time I try a Xiaomi device. As you can see on my posts or at my signature I use to own tons of devices. Pixels , Samsung's , and iPhones every year almost all of their flagships. Anyway I love the mi 11 ultra when released but it was way too expensive for a Chinese phone. I found one one month ago for around 300€ 256/12 white ceramic (CN version ) and give it a go . Phone is extremely snappy fast and reliable ( with Xiaomi eu Rom ) after few modification if I can say it with elite Rom and a few magisk modules like snapdragon 888 power efficient etc phone is great. Very good battery life I get easily around 7H sot with daily use ( no gaming but I use all social apps more than 7apps) phone never overheat like stock and I can say this is the fastest charging phone ever use. I can easily recommend this for a daily device in 2023. Special it the person who gonna buy it knows how to unlock bootloader and debloat this plus all the mods I mention above. Camera is also top notch that's why its still on top 15 phones of dxo ..I hope this helps cya

Could you mention any of the settings or steps you've done on that phone. I don't remember having a rooted cell phone. And I would like this equipment to last me several years, in addition to a screen duration of more than 4.5 hours that it is giving me
Thanks

Well there is plenty of videos out there how to unlock and root a Xiaomi in 2023. After that it's easy to flash twrp and any Rom u want.. I prefer elite Rom cause it's miui based and give some extra options like 60/90/120 hz.. u can easily put the phone to FHD+ AND 90hz and get even more juice. Out of this battery. Feel free to ask anything u want .

Well, I will follow the steps to root.
A question regarding that ROM, or the AOSP. Is it true that the MIUI camera doesn't work?
And yes, what I look for the most is battery performance
I don't try aosp but on this Rom miui camera is working great. . Follow the magisk modules as well I post on another thread I see u saw it .
