Too dumb to root?? - Xiaomi Mi MIX Questions & Answers

Hi all,
i am frustrated, since I seem to be unable to flash TWRP.
I have unlocked my MiMix (MIUI 9 OTA update) based on the permission received from Xiaomi. So far so good.
I installed ADB / Minimal ADB and Fastboot on two different computers.
I downloaded the latest TWRP twrp-3.2.1-0-lithium.img
I installed ADB / Fastboot
I activated USB debugging
I checked that the device is being recognized, online and authorized (screenshot)
I put the phone into fastboot mode
I flashed the image file (screenshot)
I got a success reply by adb (screenshot)
But the system still boots into the existing system and into stock recovery. (screenshot).
What am I dong wrong? This worked with numerous other phones
but the Mix is puzzling me...

Yeah right, that answers the Questions "Too Dumb..?" and "Can anybody offer advice?" in the shortest possible way. Thank you for the humbling experience. Stay tuned for more dumb questions.

Power down + power ?
Normally, rebbot ot recovery after flash, will boot into desired recovery and not standard from MIUI.
Something is wrong with ur device.

If you get unresponsible touchscreen on twrp, update your firmware either to latest or different one or; just flash Twrp 3.0.2-0 modified by Mr Raines and go on with it until you figure out how to match fw/twrp versions to get it working(touch).

If you mean "Volume down and Power"? That gets me into fastboot. Volume up and Power gets me into Mi Recovery 3.0. The only way to Access TWRP is through ADB after putting the phone into fastboot mode. Fastboot boot twrp.img does the trick. Not terrribly convenient, but i can live with it. Regarding your second Point, I do have the unlocked logo on the bottom. If I understand your second post correctly, I can get rid of it?
Other than that, I do not really want to start from the beginning since I already put a lot of hours into this. After root my Banking apps stopped working and I still have to come up with Ideas how to benefit from root. So far I habe tried a buch of Xposed apps, which as a rule do not work.

Yes I had the unresponsive Touch Problem, but I fixed it after reading up on the solution on XDA. Other than depending on ADB Startup, TWRP works fine now. How can I edit the Unlocked Logo?

I used to change it on Samsung, there was a sample zip which you can override your own logo. So, there are two files that you need to dig in called 'splash.img' and 'logo.img' in firmware zip files. They were extractable on samsung, but I couldn't do it on Mix yet. You have to find out how to extract .img files and put your own edited logo. ? In case there were some firmwares which remove the 'unlocked' text.. I mean if you only need to remove it, I may take a look later on.

Thank you...
Thank you for your support. Keep up the great work!
Cheers
Heiko

At the moment it is not possible to root your mi mix on the latest fw. I can't get passed the twrp decrypt password thing. So it is impossible to flash any zip. Lot of people got the same problem on the Xiaomi forums.

Phone is essentially bricked

Okay, I have the HTC One for Sprint. I flashed it using TWRP 2.5 and I can only currently access the bootloader.
I accidentally wiped everything off my phone and when I plug it in my computer sometimes recognizes it has HTCONE or as Android Device, either way I cannot send files over using adb sideload. Gives me the error that there is no device.
Currently my device somehow also got "unrooted" in the process. I am looking at the phone not being able to transfer any roms I want over to install a new OS nor can I restore it to the old OS.
Is there anything I can do?
PS: I did install the drivers and other devices. If someone can please help me even over teamviewer it would absolutely make my day. I have been troubleshooting this device for about 30 hours straight now.
Since you can access bootloader, you'll probably be ok..
What happens when you try to access recovery?
what happens in "fastboot usb" in your bootloader when you command
Code:
fastboot devices
If your device shows just do
Code:
fastboot flash recovery name_of_recovery.img
Download one of these recoveries (since you have the Sprint version) <- this will get you into recovery if you're not already able to access it..

Well I have the recovery since thats the only one I can access. Thing is though neither of my computers can recognize the device and I cannot send the rom necessary to boot the OS.
I can access the Bootloader and I can access the Recovery. I cannot access the memory on the phone in order to send files over

important part is getting the phone working again then worry about unlocking bootloader
Can always try flashing a custom ROM using an OTG cable if you've wiped the OS. I always wipe my storage and OS when I do a clean install and then flash the ROM straight from my flash drive ... Obviously you'll need to fastboot a custom recovery, if you are able to.

When you're in recovery do adb devices. If it shows your phone you can sideload a ROM.

I can access the bootloader and the recovery (switched to PhilZ touch) and sideloaded a couple roms but NONE of them work. One of the roms boots up and goes in a restart loop after hitting the front page (no icons on the screen just top bar) Even the stock version of htc one for sprint didn't work it kept resetting my device.
I tried using the RUU also but it gives me a bootloader error saying it cannot be restored after a few minutes of loading.
Well every rom so far attempted has been a dead end. CM, AOKP, all have booted and started a restart loop. I am not sure if its my kernal or anything else.
I just need some help. What I did notice is that even if the devices were working I had no cell signal. Someone please help lol

Yes power the device off by holding the power button and volume down, after the display is off let go of the power button. You can flash recovery or boot to recovery from there

I can boot into recovery but how do I transfer the new rom to the phone so I can install via recovery? I dont know how to move it from my PC to the phone.
You should look up side loading via adb and most newer recoveries allow you drag and drop once it's booted, you are using a custom recovery for your phone correct?

Func 11 Oreo - Help

Hey all, so I got the dreaded Func 11 error mode on my device.
I had updated to Oreo, and was attempting to install a Lineage treble build. I think I flashed the wrong one and I tried to flash back to stock by using the oreo update method. Unfortunately what appears to have happened is that I've somehow destroyed my recovery side of things.
I can access Fastboot and tried to flash TWRP, but this fails to load (gets stuck on 'Your device is now booting').
I'm out of ideas as to what to try now. Does anyone have any suggestions? To make matters worse my battery is also now dead.
Any help is much appreciated and apologies if this is just a repeat of another thread.
I had the same error, I sent it to tech service, I have no idea how to fix that, my phone was stuck at "your device is booting now", no way to enter into recovery.
I hope you can fix your phone bro. :/
I did the same as you and got the same problem, I had to send my device away and get it repaired by an authorized repair agent. They ended up having to put in a new main board into my phone.

I can access no fastboot no problem. Only problem is battery is completely dead and every time I try to charge it just reboots to error mode when I plug it in. Can't access the recovery unfortunately and I know there isn't any fastboot command for it from what I can find.
if you can access fastboot mode, you need use extractor for your oreo files, extract kernel and ramdisk.img and flash, after that flash twrp recovery again
Well I'm off to work now where I have access to a windows PC. I'll see what I can do, otherwise I'll try DC Unlocker if need be. I don't believe I need to send it back for repair as that seems like a bit much for what's clearly not a hardware issue.
no you dont need send to repair, thats software issues.huawei is really terrible company.kirin chipset its slow then snapdragon or exynos cpu and cpu, camera just take good picture thats all not take good video like galaxy phones, software is very bad recovery system worst in the anroid phones i even use before.developer cant cook custom roms,i never buy huawei phone again and ibcant recoment anybody to buy.they dont deserve that prices

All images flashed. I still can't get in to recovery however due to the battery being depleted.
It won't simply just charge and reboots to Error Mode. If anyone knows of a way around this that would be great. Are there fastboot instructions to get to recovery?

I can't answer for OP, but he looks to have abandoned the thread.
What I can recommend from personal experience is that using latest version of TWRP - I think it's 4.3.3 (can't tell you exactly, as I'm writing this without checking my laptop on which I have the TWRP and ROM files) - will resolve all your problems.
Thanks for your reply I actually just managed to get root/TWRP/Magisk to work. A lot of the TWRP recovery images that I encountered just caused the phone to boot loop or get stuck on fastboot mode.
The TWRP that worked for me was twrp-3.3.1-15-raphael-mauronofrio.img
following:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.3.1-15-raphael-mauronofrio.img
For reference I have the global Mi 9T Pro

Would you be able to post the download link you got your TWRP version from? And maybe go into a little more detail about the reinstalling order (if that is important)?
Also the "mauronofrio" version didn't work (I have the Mi 9T), are there any other options out there?
Many thanks for any responses

Hey sorry didn't see your reply... I haven't had time in the last month to look at it so I'm still stuck. How did you fix it using MiFlash? Did you make it force load TWRP onto the phone or something?
I think there is definitely something wrong with the partition, as when I plug it into the computer it no longer comes up in "my computer" - although I do have the MIUI recovery working again.
Cheers

im really stupid, i was installing twrp, i did a advanced wipe to afterwards install a custom rom, and when my phone was done wiping i accidentally pushed the power button and turned of my phone. now it is stuck in fastboot mode. i tried reinstalling twrp but i can't boot into twrp, it keeps turning on in fastboot mode
thanks in advance

I just flashed a full fastboot MIUI ROM in fastboot using the MiFlash portable tool. No need to do anything in recovery.
Edit: You can find fastboot ROMs from the OP of this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/how-to/redmi-k20-pro-firmware-10-3-8-0-9-6-13-t3939647/ (labeled as ...fastboot)

I'm still not able to get TWRP working... I think all of my problems will be solved as soon as I can get into it, but each time I load the recovery image on (using command prompt) it says it completes, but when I try to reboot it into recovery mode it never works (if I use command prompt to reboot into recovery it just shuts down but if I hold the button combination it either reboots back into fastboot or the original MIUI recovery mode - and yes, I am using the right button combinations).
I've tried every version of TWRP I could find, so I'm certain its not a problem with the recovery image itself... Have you or anyone else had this happen before? It's so infuriating that it just doesn't work, but I don't know why...
BTW the commands I'm using are
Code:
fastboot flash recovery "recovery.img"
(which works) and then
Code:
fastboot boot "recovery.img"
(which gives 2 OKs, but the phone just turns off).
(this all after setting the directory to my adb folder)
