If xposed framework is working now on lollipop under ART, is there a way to use Xposed with kitkat runing ART runtime?
I also want to know
Currently no. Rovo said he MIGHT do this later when he finishes the L version.
A backport would be amazing. Wouldn't the larger user base aid in development?
LumenTeun said:
Are you sure that KitKat ART has a larger userbase than Lollipop? I hardly think so since KitKat defaults to Dalvik and you need to enable developer options to change to ART. Lollipop will eventually become the predominant Android version, so focusing on making it work is probably the best course of action right now, at least in my opinion.

You misread my post. The number of KitKat users is far greater than the number of lollipop users based on the Android distribution numbers as of March 5th. Most users with Xposed installed are fully aware of ART being available for KitKat but, like me, place Xposed above ART in terms of importance. Then there are users, like me, that chose to stay on KitKat because Xposed for ART didn't exist until recently.
Lollipop will become the most widely distributed version of Android, but not for a long while. 41% of the user base is on KitKat while 3% is on Lollipop. If you include builds as far back as Jelly Bean (4.1.x), the user base of 4.x users comprises 83% of all devices. Most of the 43% (4.1.x, 4.2.x, 4.3) are more likely to be upgraded to KitKat than Lollipop. Many of the phones set to be updated to Lollipop are still waiting the OTA while many others won't be receiving anything above 4.4.4. So yes, an ART-enabled Xposed Framework for KitKat will have a much larger user base than Lollipop for a long while.
I also want to know
Sorry, it's unlikely that Xposed will ever be backported to ART for KK. The industry has pretty much left it behind.
Does anyone know if rovo89 has given any news about ART on KitKat and Xposed? Latest answer what I have found is this: "Possibly, ART support could be backported to KitKat, but that’s of less priority." (February 2015)
Lollipop is already "stable" enough. So maybe he could do this while working for Marshmallow?

It's not happening. You can post your questions all you want, keep repeating yourselves. No one is going to waste their time with this.

I don't care. rovo, I want Xposed for Eclair, so that I can flash it on my Xperia X8!
The only way I see this happening is if you throw money at rovo to dedicate some time to backport it to KK ART.
100 or 200 dollars might be able to sway him. He's super busy now and I just don't see it happening.
Setup a gofundme or something and see what you can piece together.
Set up whatever, I will donate!

If you are brave enough: backup your current device and give it a try.
EDIT: in my opinion it is rather meaningless to ask for Android N support yet, as there are at least seven month until a "final" release will hit the market. If the current Xposed version doesn't work, there will be no need to create some workarounds, as the current version is more or less a preview of a preview and there are lots of code-base changes to be expected. I guess it will take some more month until a valid support will be established.
I'm brave enough. Also foolish, because the only superuser I have been able to achieve won't let me r/w to system, so I can't install modules. And even if I could, odds are that all but the simplest modules would fail.
Regardless, it didn't boot.

The new android has many Gravitybox stuff, so I can live without Xposed I think...
so?
Tried last night.
The XPosed SDK23 checks for proper API Level upon installation - and refuses to install if you're different.
TL;DR: If you're not on MM, the MM installer won't work.
I modified the zip script
and removed the api check. The resulting system dies at dex (compiling apps, including systemui). However there are websites claiming the Universal Systemless Xposed Installer will work on Nougat if you first flash Magisk and use the Material Design Xposed Installer (not to be confused with Materialized module) and phh's Superuser apps in place of Official Xposed Installer and SuperSU! I am about to give it a try on a Nexus 6!

Any luck?
Guys... That would never work. If it did, what's the point of SDK versions?
Just like when Marshmallow was released, SDK22 would NOT work whatsoever on 6.0. same if you go back another version using the previous version of Xposed.
Don't try to install it, as it just bricks. That's why the API checker is there.

Sadly those websites are bogus clickbait to generate ad views. (Apparently) I can confirm that flashing Magisk on Android N causes the bootstrap to fail without even flashing Xposed yet. I even tried playing with the install flags. Sorry everyone I'll continue to investigate other solutions.
To those who said it is stupid and pointless to try what I did: Tinkering and breaking the rules of common sense are how many advancements have been discovered. Your posts are negative and unconstructive, nearly a violation of XDA rules. Please try not to be so abusive for the sake of the community.

But honestly, you're just bricking your device by flashing the wrong SDK version. If you want to begin porting it instead of messing with the install script to the Xposed for the wrong version of Android, maybe contact RomRacer. He ported Xposed to 5.0/5.1 before Rovo released an official version, so he can help you out maybe, but you need permission from Rovo to release a working version.
Good luck.

Unfortunately, Android Nougat will be the only Android version that will not support Xposed. This is due to the fact that Nougat is a delicious, but creamy thing, that glues together all command lines when melted.
*sarcasm turned off
There will be support for Android Nougat, be patient like everyone else. If any news arise, rovo89 will make an official statement.

We are a good 6-8 months away from an Official stable release, N is still in the early beta stages. He will work on getting it working when he feels that Google is done changing code around.

The 6-9 months was my estimates on the non Nexus devices

Bad news for my Nexus 9. So I have to downgrade to Marshmallow. Android w/o Xposed is not impossible for me.
Hello, i flashed magisk v12 from TWRP on a Sony Xperia X Compact running Android 7 (build 34.2.A.0.311) and the claims that Magisk can now root devices seems to not be there in real life.
I didn't flash anything else before or after, freshly sony flashtool flashed stock system, fastboot boot to twrp (not flashed) and flashed magisk v12 zip.
There were no error reported while I was in twrp.
Yes the bootloader is unlocked since i boot to twrp.

Um, yes, it is. You think because you have issues with your specific phone that he's lying about root and everyone else who uses it is too? That we're all secretly conspiring against you in particular? :silly:
Seriously though, maybe kindly ask for help in the Magisk Q&A thread located at the top of this subforum. Don't forget to include logs.

The article you linked is in no way any sort fo release. In fact, it's a statement that a release will come eventually. There is an unofficial version here, but it's unstable and don't use it unless you know what you're doing.

Even the unofficial release is a bad idea. Read the article by the original developer of Xposed.
So there is no Xposed framework for our phone?
Not even by a Magisk module?

There is an unstable unofficial version out there. I'd wait for an official version. Just Google it and read the article by the developer of Xposed and make your decsion based on that.
It's not too stable will leave it for now as don't really want to screw anything up.

But I may have done something wrong, as this was my first time trying to install it.
Anyone got it working?
This belongs in the questions section
You have to use the magisk xposed module, you can't flash xposed standalone. Though I may be wrong, so double check since I'm only using magisk modules not xposed.

I actually gave this a try tonight using the 24 version of systemless installed with Magisk. The bootloop is longer, but it's a bootloop, so I am restoring.
Warning to anyone messing around with this -- do a TWRP backup (and Titanium backup if you are really paranoid)...in my case I had to again restore from the TWRP backup...
Also, mods you can move this to the Q&A section...sorry I am the OP and should have posted this there...

I'm on Android 7.0 rooted T-Mobile H872, hence SDK24 -- I thought that's all we had available besides Lineage 15.1 which I am going to try a bit later.
If someone has a rootable Oreo ROM for the H872, I'd love to try it
Thanks,

That would be great, please count me as an early tester. The current Lineage OS 15.1 has camera issues, and that is something I need for both video and pics with young kids and a business to run. Speaking of this -- what happens if you install an H870 or non T-Mobile custom ROM that was for another LG G6? The only difference would be the LTE bands supported, and I don't know if the ROM needs to be updated for that or if it is all handled through the SIM / Qualcomm Chipset.
