Android is starting - Moto X4 Questions & Answers

I have a pattern in terms of licking my device
When I turn on the device, it asks for my pattern.
After this it says "Android is starting" for 2 seconds, it's only when the phone turns on initially.
Is this normal?
Is it because the device is encrypted?

try clearing ur launcher caches and data..... and if ur are third party launchers then this might be a compatibility issue.

Same with me, I think it's normal.

Why do you lick your device?

[q] apps won't open??

Hi there,
I am just having the most weird thing on my phone since yesterday. Some apps won't open. I mean, I click on them and nothing happens, no error message, nothing. I thought it was a virus so I ran the antivirus (trustgo) but nothing is found.
The strangest thing is that sometimes if I insist and keep touching an app it may open.
If I reset my phone it starts working normally again. Then I install my apps but if I reboot it...bam! I cannot even drag and drop the apps!
Does anybody know something about this ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I'd say don't try to figure out why. Just do a factory reset, if that doesn't work, reflash.
If that doesn't work get a new phone.

Thank you. I have done the factory reset and it works fine. It's just that I begin installing my apps and then I reboot it ( and rebooting always now to check on this) and that's when it happens.
I mean, if it was an app with a virus, the antivirus program would let me know, right?

I don't think viruses on Android work that way. They just steal some of your info
Antiviruses on Android are still at Alpha/Beta stage I believe. I think it was an app that messed up with your system files or something.

Thank you all. Gosh!!! No, I am at the office so I cannot laugh out loud for my own stupidity. You know what? Yes, indeed, as soon as I flashed a room, I turned off all animations so that ( supposedly) it would have no lag at the homescreen. All this time thinking about a virus, a malware. I was even thinking that the ROMS I flashed were not working well, etc and it was that....OH GOODNESS!!!!!!!
Thank you very much! What I will do now is that I will set animations at 0.5 then.

There is a problem with the Xperia Z launcher where the shortcuts become unresponsive after using an aftermarket launcher.
To fix this problem, go into App Management and find Xperia Home, then wipe its cache
This seems to to do the trick also.

[Q] Red screen

Hello,
tonight, while I was quite drunk, so I don't remember "how" exactly that happened, my HTC One screen turned red-ish.
The only time it's back to normal is during phone call (WTF?).
I tried restarting the phone several times, I still haven't tried factory reset.
Any ideas? Screenshot in attachment.
Thanks.

Not rooted, everything stock.
I know I should head right to factory reset, but I consider that last resort.

As far asi I remember, no. The phone is clean, doesn't stick, no smell.
Hmm u can try to shut down the phone for sometime and try again.I really think something must have happened physically coz it not rooted and all so I don't think it should software based problem but I ain't no expert.

Well I think it's software, because when I dial number, it goes back to normal. Anyways, the factory reset seems inevitable
Just wait for some more advice and then resort to factory reset.

On all screens, all the time, expect when I'm calling somebody. Right when I hit DIAL, it goes back to normal. When the call ends, it goes back to red.
I have talked to local HTC service center, they told me to hard reset it.

Backup assistant plus process

Hi everyone,
I noticed there are two processes that start on boot called "backup assistant plus" and "authorization assistant". Searching on the web it seems these are apps by Verizon but I have an unlocked nexus by Motorola. What this precesses do? Are our Infos safe?
The problem is that it is not possible to disable them!
Do you have them between your active apps?
Thanx
if you have root, you can delete them.
I don't have yet. What do you suggest?

its part of android 5.1, i wouldnt worry about security and privacy. im on tmobile, and it was installed on my phone when i flashed 5.1, but i deleted it, as i do delete many system apps.
Thank you, probably you're right. But I don't like to have background processes I can't disable. Expecially if I don't know what they do!
Now I'm kill it every time I reboot. Maybe that will convince me to root!
Do you have any issue with sim pin on startup? Mine doesn't ask me the pin and simply switch off the sim till I unlock my home for the first time.

Device may be monitored ??

Hi there,
I just noticed that on my Z3+ I have got a warning saying 'network may be monitored'. Once I click that I get "This device is managed by null"
My question is does anyone else have the same warning and if I should be worried ??
Thanks
I got that when I tried repairing my phone through the Sony Companion software. After seeing that, I just performed a normal factory reset and that went away. No clue what it is, but it's not there anymore.

Is the notification something serious ?? I tried to disabling the myxperia but still I seem to have it. It would take forever to do the PC repair and then to get all the apps back. I am just wondering if there is other way around it or I should just stop waring about it.

Imagine a thief holding your phone. 'Device may be monitored' is there to make him worried, not you ! Still you can deactivate the protection & then repair to get rid of it. But it's not worth the hassle IMO

The fix is to factory reset the device and set up the Google account AFTER the initial setup wizard, not during.

I've heard it has something to do with myXperia.... I've also heard of factory resets fixing it...
People ... You get this message after installing a custom CA certificate, eg. the one of the company you work for. Do you use WiFi with certificates or VPN? Then you've installed a custom CA certificate.
Just used Sony PC Companion to update to 28.0.A.8.251 and it fixed this and didn't loose any of my settings/data.
I had used My Xperia in the past and but had turned it off before updating.
I don't know if it is fixed in the update, or just the process of updating with my xperia turned off reset whatever was causing it to show.

How do I require pin at startup

I have a Pixel 4 XL and just like I had on the Note 8 I would like to require a pin at startup. I know the phones encrypted already but I would like that extra layer of security. Does anyone know if such a thing exists on my Pixel 4 XL and could you point me in the right direction please. I've been looking everywhere on settings and I can't find it if it's there. Thanks in advance for any help I can get.

Do you mean in addition to face unlock, you also want a pin to unlock the screen? Or do you just want a PIN to unlock the screen? I don't think the first question is possible without and app or mod. The second one would just require you to not use face unlock, and use a PIN/pattern instead. Hope I explained that clear enough :good:

I believe you need to have a locked bootloader and the phone be encrypted for that option to appear after setting pin/pattern/password lock option. I could be wrong and this could be completely removed for this phone. I unlock bootloader day 1 but I don't see the option

You get a prompt on that phone before the lock screen and android boot? Pin after reboot is there and requires you apply the pin/pattern/password after the phone restarts but that's AT the lock screen and not BEFORE it.
Edit: booted up my recently wiped 2xl and the option isn't there in settings either. I think you're referencing pin after reboot to get through the lock screen, which exists. I'm talking about pin to boot the phone, which is before android even boots up.

Yes it is. The new encryption works the following way, if you have your device powered off:
Secure-Start on Stock Android is default ever since the Android 10 update. It can't be deactivate, thus no longer be activated manually.
Until the lock screen appears on pixel 4/4XL, the device simply boots the stock system partition without loading user data, since Android 10 uses a more recent technology for encryption.
If the PIN is then entered on the lock screen, the user data is decrypted, and only then. If you have many apps and/or folders on the home screen of the Launcher, this is especially noticeable, because the first login and building of the home screen then takes much longer than on older Android versions.
There may still be OEMs that change this specific new Android behavior. This is very stupid IMHO. Because if an OEM deliberately disables secure-start as default setting and lets the user decide, it leads to confusion. Just think about it, if a user reads the above change and thinks "oh my device is already in that mode", he wouldn't even look for this option to enable it and run unencrypted.
Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using XDA Labs
PIN on booting phone is where you set a SIM PIN so the SIM has to be unlocked on boot.
Greetings. I have a similar problem. My phone starts everything every time I turn it on. All network connections are active. GSM, WIFI, Bluetooth. The pc connection also works! I don't want to enter a sim pin code! There is currently an incoming call even if I do not enter the unlock code. So the phone works on its own without permission! I want the phone to do nothing until I enter the pin code. This is currently just a screen lock, I switch any form. There is no obstacle protection. You can answer a call after stealing your phone! All you need is another sim card. This is not security! My phone Honor 20 is independent. Thanks for the help!
