Hi All,
I've just swapped to the Nokia 8 from an LG G4 and I've been really impressed - Until - I was transferring a lot of data (about 30Gb) from my laptop onto the phone - Left it doing it's thing than came back to find a dead phone!!
I had the Oreo update and nothing seemed out of the ordinary - Except it seemed to get fairly hot when streaming over Bluetooth - Other than that - Battery life performance etc were all great.
I've ordered a replacement - I just wondered if anyone else has had the same experience?

Hi guys, I've recently bought a MTeoR and was loving it. I wake up this morning and LO! the battery indicator has the little X in it. (the manual says it is faulty or that there is no bettery. and i promise there is!!!)
I really, really have dont nothing to the phone since purchasing it except put music and photos on. Is there anything i can do OTHER than drive to the place i bought it (miles away)? Is this a known problem?
I have tried:
- Taking the battery out (Resetting)
- I have also done a complete restart!
- I have tried the USB cable (which was working fine) and the AC charger all over the household. It wont charge coz it thinks there's no or a faulty battery.
im really quite sad here... lol...please some1 rescue my day!!!
thanks,
-Simon
I have a T-mobile branded Note 4, which I purchased used on eBay about half a year ago. The device worked fine apart from having difficulty finding and keeping a GPS signal - which I didn't mind as Google Maps worked without a problem. In the last 2 days I saw that my Note had problem with charging the battery. The charging indicator would show up, but the "Fast Charge" option would not appear despite being enabled in the settings. Not only that, but the battery would actually deplete itself when charging.
At first I thought that the problem was with the ROM screwing up for some reason, so I went back and restored a backup, but that didn't help. Following that I thought that the issue might be the battery being faulty so I got myself a brand new battery, but nothing changed. Finally I determined that it was actually the USB port that was at fault. I had issues with software acting up and faulty batteries before, but never a broken USB - which is why I never even considered a broken USB port being the reason.
So, now I'm stuck with a phone that refuses to charge and can't even connect to my PC at all. I honestly don't know what my options are at this point. I don't consider myself tech-savvy enough to take the phone apart and change the USB port, but I'm also out of luck, because the phone is rooted and running a custom ROM on it and without a working USB I can't bring it back to its original state. I'm the second owner as well, so even if I was somehow able to restore the phone to factory settings I don't know if Samsung would honor my warranty and I'm on MetroPCS not T-Mobile, so I can't go through them either.
I'm wondering is there any place online that I can send it and get it fixed for a good price or should I just mark my losses and sell it on eBay for a lower price stating that it has a broken USB port?
If I could make some easy suggestions first. Thanks to some good moves by Samsung if you just buy an external battery charger you can swap charged batteries very easily. If you don't want to swap you can install a wireless charging back on your note and fix that right up. As for accessing the phone with USB you could get away with a Micro SD to SD adapter and just put files you need to transfer on that. Files can also be sent over Bluetooth and WiFi with our phones. The only thing that would be very hard to work around would be Odin flashes to new firmware updates. I will say sometimes you can hold it just right and get a connection but you need a stable hand.
For affordable extern charger with two extra batteries I recommend checking out Anker on Amazon. Any generic MicroSD to SD will work so go with what is cheap. As for professional repair? I looked over the daughter board replacement steps on ifixit and on a quick look it seems like the screen has to be removed making it a pain. Finding someone reputable to do it is really the biggest challenge. I hope the workarounds help and that maybee you can find a permanent fix from a reputable repair shop. Check locally, it is a common procedure. Good luck.

You can purchase the flex port (which has the usb port, mics, etc.) for about $10. There is a youtube video tutorial on how to replace it. Watch it and see if it's easy enough for you to do it.
Did you try a different USB cable? You didn't mention that you tried that. Some independent cellphone shops can repair your phone, but I don't know how much they would charge. Sorry If wasn't much help.
Hi all,
After years of reliable service, I decided to root my Xperia Z1 to be able to drop apps onto the SD card to create some more space.
This was working fine for a week, but yesterday I was in the forest using a GPS app called My Tracks which I'd moved to the SD card. My phone turned off once, Then a second time and wouldn't reboot until I plugged it into the charger, which I might be wrong, but I think the phone wasn't happy using the app from the sd card.
The battery was still at 83%. It charged back up to 100%. It turned off again and would only turn on again once plugged into the charger.
Phone was okay on the charger, then someone rang me so I unplugged it and it died instantly.
After that it's been dead with the red light flashing on the charger and the usb cable.
None of the recovery options work, and I even have the back removed now with endless failed attempts at disconnecting battery and using the testpoint and paperclip to try and get various computer software to see it. It's unresponsive.
Ideally I wanted to get some notes off it which are saved in the simple Notes app on the phone. Everything else was saved to the sd card. If anyone knows how to recover those from a dead phone it'd be great, but I don't think it's possible.
So my main question is. If I buy a cheap donor Z1 off ebay which is fine except a smashed digitising screen etc... Can I basically do a straight swap with the motherboard and/or battery (being a bit hopeful it's only the battery) and my phone will work again? Albeit with whatever is on the new mother board?
I've never replaced internal hardware on phones so I don't know if I need to do anything extra.
So let me start off by saying this could've been really dumb on my part to even try....
I received my Note8 a few days ago and wanted to transfer over everything from my S8+. I had a dual USB C cable from Anker (that is USB-IF certified, according to their Amazon listing) and I figured I'd try that instead of the normal OTG + Cable setup. Smart Switch transferred fine without a hiccup and everything seemed alright.
Next, I wanted to transfer over my media from my SD card on my S8+ to the SD card on my Note8. Seemed like the most efficient way was to just use the USB C cable and a file manager app and just literally copy them over. I ended up using the Downloads app for a few transfer without a problem.
The problem starts when I start my second round of transfers, a bunch of videos and a concurrent transfer of some backup files. It starts off fine, and then I notice the estimate starts to climb up. Finally, a few minutes later, my Note8 abruptly shuts off without warning. I go to pick it up and it's pretty warm (not too hot, my old S7E and Note7 have been a lot warmer). I turn it on, it boots up normally and everything seems fine. I never received a warning or dialog as to why my phone randomly shut off. I immediately download a battery stats app and my phone is at 38°C, which seems high but again I've seen worse. Ever since it's been operating fine but I'm paranoid that I may have caused some damage.
Is there a way to read why my phone abruptly shut off? Any idea why it did? I'm concerned about the USB C cable being faulty, I trust Anker, but even they had to recall a cable previously.
tl;dr - used a dual USB C cable to move data over to my Note8... Worked for a while until it abruptly shut off. Haven't noticed anything wrong with it since, but I'm paranoid that I may have messed something up.
Background:
* Galaxy Tab S 8.4 WiFi (SM-T700)
* Bliss ROM from a while back (don't remember build)
* Became unresponsive mid-2017, replaced battery and it worked immediately.
* Used tab a while but it's mostly a backup device
* Tried to use again in early 2018, dead again - unresponsive.
* Assumed cheap battery replacement, ordered Genuine Samsung replacement battery.
Today:
* replaced battery (again) with the Genuine Samsung battery I ordered.
* Booted up immediately with about 50% charge.
* Plugged it in to charge a while, got it to about 80%.
* Unplugged and left it alone a couple hours while I did other things.
* Came back to it - totally unresponsive.
* Tried disconnecting/reconnecting battery, plugging/unplugging from USB, tried the old battery again, tried plugging into USB on computer for a response - nothing.
Are you guys familiar with this set of symptoms? I'm really at a loss at this point and questioning whether this 3 year old Tab is worth my time to troubleshoot it. Sad, because it still seemed to work great during times I needed it.
Thanks in advance!

I know this is a 5 year old post, but I've had the exact same problem for about as long, with the exact same hardware. I have a Tab S 8.4 Wifi SM-T700 (XAC) on stock firmware that was great for many years. Eventually the battery stopped holding charge, but we mostly use it plugged in anyways so no biggy. The issue is that the screen would glitch out to a green line and power off when the wife was playing Township, but it was otherwise pretty stable.
Instead of buying a new tablet, I bought a new "genuine" samsung battery. Visually it appeared to be an exact match, but I suppose I have no way to know for sure. After the new battery went in, it charged and worked great for many months. The problem is, that the battery seemed to degrade so much faster than the original and returned to the green line glitch of death within about a year.
I have long suspected that there is a hardware issue in the charging circuit that is prematurely killing the batteries, and that additional battery swaps will suffer the same fate due to this.
I am attempting to install a custom rom to see if it is a software issue or something, but I can't even get the system to boot beyond the Samsung logo currently on the stock firmware, but I can get into download and backup mode without issue.
Out of ideas but I would totally attempt to replace a pcb component if someone had a map. My google searches over the years have not yielded much.
Super old hardware, already bought a replacement for the couch, but I'm hoping to just have it plugged in permanently as a fixed screen below my PC monitor for youtube and hand writing input and the like.
Any thoughts are appreciated!
