Is Bixby linked to the CSC? - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hi all!
I've got a 9500 from Hong Kong in the UK. I knew Sammy Pay was linked to the CSC and so I get offers from there instead of UK (but it works fine with a UK card).
I just tried to use Bixby Vision, I scanned a mars bar and clicked the shopping link and everything came out in Chinese!!
Any ideas how to sort that and change it to English??
Many Thanks!
Amit

I don't use Bixby (including Vision) and so probably cannot help that much however I went to try and when it starts it says "........Available services vary depending on your phone, country and service provider."
So I think you might be correct, phone is obviously the model, service provider is network and (I'm guessing here but) country would be via CSC?

In the CSC features, there are several lines for which sites to use for the search results, news etc for Bixby.
We figured this out with my USA Tmobile CSC patch project, rather @masri1987 pointed out to me that his Bixby vision was giving him Korean search results ?

Not without root unfortunately
In my case the lines for these are in the CSC's csc_features.xml file which is under /system/omc/(my carrier's folder)/ which can't be edited without root.
These are the lines just in case you decide to root and want to manually change them :
CscFeature_Vision_ConfigImageSearch>PTRXX</CscFeature_Vision_ConfigImageSearch>
<CscFeature_Vision_ConfigPlace>FSRXX</CscFeature_Vision_ConfigPlace>
<CscFeature_Vision_ConfigPlaceUnit>FETXX</CscFeature_Vision_ConfigPlaceUnit>
<CscFeature_Vision_ConfigShopping>AMZUS</CscFeature_Vision_ConfigShopping>
<CscFeature_Vision_ConfigTextTranslator>GGLXX</CscFeature_Vision_ConfigTextTranslator>
<CscFeature_Vision_ConfigWine>VVNXX</CscFeatu

Star thank you!
So if I root, I lose Sammy pay and android pay but gain UK features, but can't use Sammy pay which is what I changed the CSC for haha!
Thank you for your time and input KT, it's much appreciated!!
One last question, can I root, make the changes and then unroot and still use android pay and Sammy pay (oh and the banking apps)?

If you root KNOX will be permanently tripped so Samsung Pay will never work again, but all the other mobile payment apps should be fine after unrooting.

VZW Hiya phone apk

I've been using a Note 7 port on my Note 4 and have really enjoyed the integrated Hiya into the phone dialer. Of course VZW has disabled it for their own. Hiya has a stand alone app but I was curious if there's a way to take the unlocked phone app and install it on our VZW note 8. Thanks.

I didn't know there was any sort of integration in the past with hiya. Do you have an APK for that or was your phone rooted? That might be the reason. I don't know how the Standalone app works and if you have to make hiya the dialer of choice for it to work properly. If it's anything like mr. number I'd be over it
Don't think you can install the phone APK since it is probably a system app. So short of flashing it or rooting (both impossible right now) I don't think you can get it. Hiya's standalone app is crap. Obtrusive, nags a bit, not integrated into rest of the system. One of the reasons I got unlocked for my T-Mobile plan is to have proper caller ID without T-Mobile shoving their Name ID down my throat at $3.99/mo

That's what I figured, it being a system app so no way to install from another version. Thank you for the reply. Smart going unlocked! If it wasn't for the carrier trade in value I'd have done the same. Enjoy!
The unlocked versions have it intigrated.

Is there a way to extract that integration to use on non-international devices? My TMO s6 edge+ has an unlocked bootloader on nougat but doesnt have that hiya.

If you're referring to the Hiya caller id/spam feature, it''s not just the phone app & there's a chance you may not even need it. It's enabled by cscfeature.

Without root, not possible. Verizon specifically blocks this feature cause they offer their own paid subscription caller ID service.

Reason why I'm still on T-Mobile. Verizon doesn't allow for GSM devices, aka unlocked bootloader phones. Really bothers my how even T-Mobile sells locked bootloader phones. Seems like Samsung and service providers don't care though since we don't represent the majority of consumers.
Here ya go guys, if you root then use this cscfeatures file, the caller ID and spam protection GETS ACTIVATED ALONG WITH EVERY OTHER FREE SAMSUNG FEATURE VERIZON DISABLED. Caller ID, search places, Samsung cloud, as well as a few others. Scroll through the thread and use the one Baggery77 modified for Verizon. It's a few pages in.

I did a dirty flash of the rom with that csc code and worked it worked with no issue. After a clean install, the option was still in setting andturned on, but it only says Identifiying caller information without giving a result on numbers it would normally work on. Any ideas?

Galaxy Store - "Can't use credit card. Rooting detected..."

I have Note 9 rooted with Magisk. A few days ago I realised that I can't say anything on Galaxy Store or Galaxy Themes. Does anybody have that problem and is there any solution for this? I think Galaxy Store was updated just before this started to happen but I am not sure if that's directly related to my problem.
Thanks in advance.

i acctualy added it while settuoing my galaxy watch.
although my phone is rooted, launching spay from the watch allowed me to gain access and configure samsung pay on the phone. i initially did not configure spay on the phone.
i can maybe try and replicate the steps when i switch roms.
but anyways, if you dont have a smart smart watch then i dunno.
but when you are asked to pay on the galaxy app store, cant you choose from other providers?

well then i dont know what to suggest.
again when i change roms i can check if there is any other way to do it other than how i got it to work with the watch.
because i had the exact same issue with you but was able to 'fool' the phone by using the watch and launching the the spay watch plugin to enroll spay

so the galaxy watch plugin is the one that makes it all possible. i did hide everything relating to spay with magisk hide...
btw my device dosent support spay but rhat didint stop me from adding a card and PayPal account. ill do some tests later to see if i can get it to work without the watch.

here is what happens, phone detects root but let's me continue then i try to use spay but says phone isint supported. but since i have the paypal option then in then end i just choose that to complete the purchase. i prefer PayPal anyways.
on the watch side, if i launch paypal on it, then my card that i added earlier using the watch plugin works fine.

So you had to Magisk Hide all these apps. I will try to hide all of them. I don't think it will give me the missing option of adding Pay Pal Account but it might give me to pay with already added Credit Card.

custom Rom or not?

I just replaced the Google Pixel 2 xl with Note 9
So far, I like this phone.
I'd like to ask you guys, if it would be worth to root the phone and install a custom ROM / kernel
I can't see a percentage for the brightness, which is annoying, and the clock is on the left, I'd like to have it centered or on the right
With a good kernel, would it help to improve the battery life?
Thank you very much, in advance, any advices are welcome
With Samsung once you root and trip Knox you can't go back to stock - ever. And some apps will not work anymore. This is actually my first phone where I haven't seen any need for root anyway.
Take a look at good lock, with it you can customize allmost everything, incl. clock postition.

latest july build seems to have decent battery without the need to root.
also using samsung goodlock and its various components, you will be able to do a lot of stuff that were only possible on a rooted device. such as move clock position and much more UIwise.
for brightness % sorry never seen that.
so play around with all the goodlock addons 1st and see if its worthing staying on stock. as you know rooting will kill Spay...so
( i can never stay on stock since its much to fun to flash roms every now and then)
What exactly is good lock?
Where do can I find this app? @Bober, I always had a percentage on the brightness, on the Pixel 2 xl ( root / custom Rom)

you should be on may release. manually download it and flash it with Odin.
I'm in the same boat here and am quite surprised by it. I ALWAYS root my phone, first thing, asap. I specifically bought the exynos version of the N9 so I could root. But after playing with it I find myself wondering why I need root.
Ad blocking - kind of miss this but using Brave browser mostly fixes that.
Customization - GoodLock is AWESOME. Takes place of rom customizations and Tasker, which was a must have for me.
Call recording seems to work, which it didn't on my Pixel.
Get to keep Samsung pay, which is much better than Google pay. And secure folder is a lot better than the name suggests, since it provides doubles if apps allowing multiple active logins.
Someone convinced me why I need to root this phone??

to have fun with it and try new things. ( i get bored fast and quickly want more)
if you want to use the phone within the allowed parameters and not want anything more than you already have, than don't root. because the 1st thing happens when you root is that knox fuse gets tripped and apps relying on the device's security integrity will stop trusting it and fail to work. but apart from S pay you can get prety much all apps working one way or an other on a rooted phone just as a stock one would.( lately secure folder was found to work! thx dr
.ketan). people have turned to google pay instead of S pay.
but i do understand that its like: why break what's not broken?
some of us like the freedom and ability to do more. its not essential but since we own the device i guess our though process is what can we do to get even more out of this device.( price is not cheap so we need a reason to justify having bought it guess and have our money's worth ! lol )
but it is true. with good lock the visual aspect that was once one of the big reasons of rooting is now less and less of a reason. same goes with themes as well. nice alternatives to the stock themes and store bought ones like the wonderfull app: #hex ( xda made! search for it here and on playstore) allows you to theme. it has slimmed the gap even more between the need to root and not having to.
one aspect though that is important is being able to remove content and aslo add content like unsupported region carrier specific features eg:CSC , i put canadian CSC on my n960n.( somewill argue rhat if i had bought the canadian variant i would not need to do this. but the other reasons outlined in this message outweighs this.)
all in all im happy with my decision. and i have no trouble understanding that you or others are also quite happy with not having rooted.
what is good is that rooting has put pressure and have given samsung and other device companies examples and insight on what the community wants. by rooting and modding the device we show exactly what we need/want. and the result ( goodlock and other additions) that are aosp inspired has really made the device shine and be an attractive experiance to the general public and rooted user alike.

I've definitely rooted a bunch of phones. Every phone in my signature that could be rooted, and many friends phones etc. I've been a huge proponent of root. This phone just seems to not need it, at least not yet at this point. When sammy stops pushing updates in timely manner I will probably reconsider.
You are absolutely right that root, and the xda community in particular, has really pushed OEMs to make things better. Its great progress.

I received my Galaxy watch three yesterday here in Canada. I know officially the new features such as ECG are not available here. I'm doubtful they will be anytime soon. How can I somehow get these features outside of the US on my device? I'm pretty sure it's possible but I'm not sure where to start and look for proper watch three instructions that won't mess up my device. Thank you.

Ignore that GWA2...

Thanks adfree.
Both BP and ECG require a samsung phone right?
Does VO2Max as well?
Any tips on changing the region for GW3 or has that not been figured out yet?

There's some discussion on the subject here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/smartwatch/samsung-galaxy-watch-3/features-available-t4144413
I still can't figure out the proper procedure for the Watch 3. ?
I was using online chat to Samsung support yesterday in the UK and he told me that the ECG and blood pressure monitor would be working when I receive the watch next Friday.
Unfortunately, I didn't get a copy of the message transcript although I guess I could ask for it.
Does anyone know if this is true?
@gsw5700
Sure...
A
If your order is from South Korea... and you get SM-R845N or SM-R840 with KOO CSC...

IMHO the easiest way to check reality versus dream...
Wait, if you hold your device in your hands... you will see the hard reality.

The SM-R840 model? Did you do this as soon as you received it or did you update everything on the watch first?
Does Samsung pay still and all the other apps work fine?
Changing CSC to KOO doesn't enable the missing features?

Yes it's the R840 model, Tizen 5.5.0.1, build BTG6.
I don't use Samsung Pay, but everything I use seems to work fine
I installed the BP and ECG option using the "without a PC" option. Worked like a charm. Many thanks!
One question: will there be app updates available for the patched versions?
WIthout PC option worked perfectly on US BTE model.
Without PC method validated for France model, thanks ! Works great.
In addition, is there any method to get SPO2 ? Like through a VPN or something ? Thks
Do bp or ECG require a Samsung phone?
Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk
Does sideloading the app create problems when the official update is released?

I know the contacts do not sync for us pixel 4 XL owners, but Samsung store person told me that other features need Samsung phone. Hope someone can confirm.
I followed the video and the new SHM app appeared on my watch for a second but when I clicked it, it just closed and then disappeared.
Now, whenever I try to install the "Retailmode" app, I get the message on my phone that the APK was installed, I see the samsung accessory service transferring it to my phone but the the wear app pops up a toast saying "failed to install the app".
I checked under my wear app's list of installed app and it's not there (should it appear there)? Any idea what's going on? This is a US model GW3.

Can you give maybe additional and more specific background infos?
GW3 means what?
BT like SM-R840 or LTE device like SM-R845U?
Firmware Version?
Type this like you would call someone...
Code:
*#1234#
Sam.ung doing funny Running Gags... like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhbWkHwyRO8
So it is not 100 % clear if maybe meanwhile something is going on in US devices...
Usefull to know if Samsung Phone is used to push the TPK...
Best Regards

How to change the region of the Watch3 SM-R845F LTE?

Hello, so I have a Galaxy Watch3 45mm LTE SM-R845F and I want to change the region from XXV to a CSC code that has Samsung Pay to use Samsung Pay but I don't know where to start. I have looked around in the forum to find some guides but they are mostly outdated in 2020 so I'm asking in 2022 if is it possible to change the region of the watch so that Samsung Pay shows up and I can actually use it. Many thanks!
Fun fact: Samsung Pay does work on Samsung phones sold here in Vietnam but for some whatever reason the watch doesn't have the Samsung Pay app

For me I can flash all firmwares like R845FXXU1CTJ5, but then it's impossible to flash combinated file, to then root with sdb.. Some combination files brick my watch and others don't work in Odin....

I'm not quite sure tbh, it's been a while. I found some combination files for the R845F on easy-firmware but it is paid though .
