Prethemed? You mean from Team Blackout?? If thats what you mean, they stopped doing that months ago.
I'm not just looking for a dark youtube app. I'm looking to darken many apps cuz it hurts my eyes.
Do you know if substratum works on the mi max 2?

aaah gotcha. then you shouldve asked for "many apps" directly, here i thought it was just about youtube.
i guess it depends what rom ure on. on LOS, for example, substratum works, albeit in legacy mode.

no idea, ive been running lineage OS since day one on my Mi Max 2, so I dont know much about MIUI (as crazy as that sounds )
if you want to install another MIUI rom, you could check for a backup app specifically for MIUI (play store or maybe even built in), i think its calles MIUI mover or something?
otherwise, u can use titanium backup, google backup service or super backup apps

Hey man,
I needed to know if I can run substratum on it before I buy the mi max 2, just to be sure. I really need substratum for my weak eyes. I dont want to install another rom, I just would want to run stock rooted MIUI.
With the phone I got now (samsung j7) I cant use titanium since I'm not rooted. I want to know if you know how to back up the app data using ADB. Let me know.

let me inform u then that substratum does not work properly in miui. I have a rooted mi max 2 with global miui 9 and I tried to use substratum on it. Result was patchy and buggy theming which caused more problem. Ultimately had to uninstall substratum. The unofficial versions on lineage os and resurrection remix ought to support substratum but these roms are too buggy at this point of time.

its true in any case that substratum doesnt work in "fire and forget" mode. ull need to check and test each single part of a theme to make sure that there is not bugs/bootloops. afaik the los and rr roms support substratum in legacy mode only.

Hey jbmc83 & Suryashis,
Since substratum is buggy in stock mi max 2, is there anything I can do to theme or darken youtube and a few other apps? I ask cuz viewing apps in white really irritates my eyes.
What do you mean by "legacy mode?" Do you mean that the roms you mentioned work with old versions of apps?

there are two modes in which subtratum can work. the current "full function" mode allows u to apply themes on the fly, meaning u can see results right away. legacy mode, however, requires you to reboot the phone in order to see results after every theme being applied.
substratum definitely works on lineage os, no doubt about it. enough users have reported so while running that rom on mi max 2. BUT: its not "fire and forget", so u cant just take a whole theme for system, menus, system apps, third party apps, navigations bar, etc, apply it and expect everything to work without a hitch. so best to activate one theming item of a theme package, then check if it works properly. if it does, on to the next item. if not, revert the change and continue testing.
so if its really worth that much to you and your eyes hurt so badly, its worth testing all the individual items so you can have a working substratum theme to your liking
nothing really worth having comes easily.

Swift Dark works great on Lineage OS 14.1, check out my YouTube app...

As for me I have given up on darkening youtube whatsapp and chrome. For YouTube I use a patched version with dark theme and ad filtering and in whatsapp I have set a black background.

Hey xiaomi 4X,
So Swift Dark works on your phone! Good! But what about playstore? Is that themable on the XMM2?

Hey guys,
As you know I got bad eyes. They hurt when i look at a white screen and need darkened apps. Would you guys please install, 'J Dark Ice Substratum Theme' and substratum on your xiaomi mi max 2? Would you theme youtube and playstore and tell me if it works? Very importantly, could you test it with the stock rom? I'm asking cuz I dont own the phone yet. But if this works I'll buy the phone in a heartbeat. Thanks guys!!

Apk.

So I have a issue. There is 3 particular app that will install on any aosp rom but any cm ROM it won't. What could be the reason? There is about 3 apps that won't install from my SD card. I've tried downloading them again but no difference. Any ideas. I'm desperate as I prefer cm based ROMs but this is a deal breaker as it's a online game I play with my kids. I only prefer the cm theme engine and there phone app options.

which apps?
Zynga poker and a apk of mincraft p.e(I know, I'm doing Google surveys till I can afford it legit!)
My kids have all got m.p.e and like I say it won't install on any cm based ROM. I might have to try and get a log if no one has a clue but it's extremely strange. Also titanium backup doesn't restore some of my apps saying with the red cross app not installed.
On aosp all apps restore fine and I can download any 3rd party apk and it's fine. Weired

MIUI EU vs MIUI stock

Hello,
What differences are there between MIUI EU and MIUI stock?
Less bloatware (is it really that bad? )
It's nice to have google stuff built in, but it's fairly easy to install anyway.
What else?
I'm wondering if it's really worth the trouble to switch to MIUI EU, if I can root the stock ROM anyway.
All of the reviews say the Mix is quite snappy, I'm wondering if all the lags/etc are caused by the MIUI EU rom?
Not sure if you read my posts on here complaining about the lags or not. But it sounded like you might have lol.
I was on EU ROM for about 3 days, and the user experience wasn't all that great at all. Snappy is the last word I would use to describe my experience with it. I'm switching to China Dev ROM, and I will see how well it runs on the Mi Mix comparing to EU ROM. Do note at the EU ROM is in very early stage, weekly build for Mi Mix has been suspended for 2 consecutive weeks. I'm sure EU ROM has a lot to bring in the near future. As of right now, I think I'm sticking to the stock ROM.

I had the same issue as well.
It feels buggy. I didn't face any lags when I was on the Chinese rom, but the eu rom seems to have some issues at the moment.
I had multiple freezes as well as slow downs.
---------- Post added at 08:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:15 PM ----------
Also, When I received my phone, the seller installed multi-language rom. It's not the eu rom.
I think they just enabled other languages on the Chinese rom, and It worked great.
Reverted to the twrp backup and its much smoother.
I'm the opposite of you guys. EU dev Rom was better for me than the China stable Rom. On CN, Play Store download lagged, time was not always correct due to locale always reverting back to China even though I set to a different country and had to turn off Auto Time Zone. I had issues downloading and being unable to set wallpapers and lock screen. The only way I could change it is by changing the themes.
But with EU dev, I didn't have any of those issues.
I would consider reflashing the EU dev to see if it helps or not but up to you.

Same here, had play store already on too. Everything worked great, left localization to China as nothing else seemed better and language was already English. The built in weather app didn't work but no biggy. What got me though, was being a Google Voice user I could set it to make all calls with GB - if I did calls would start with the dialer coming up but then immediately closing. Only worked for calls with GV set to not make any calls. Had to let it go.for this reason but if euro ROM doesn't have this GV making calls issue (can anyone try and advise) I would get another.

I was going to stick w/the Global MIUI,as I'm not having performance issues (Phone/Messaging/G-Mail/Data/WI-FI all excellent).
I wouldn't even mind the Xiaomi/MIUI Bloat if I could disable most of it,namely the built-in CleanMaster malware.
The memory management seems a bit aggressive as well, regarding recent apps, regardless of app/system settings.
Can the Xiaomi/MIUI/CleanMasterbloat be disabled on the stock/unrooted (?) EU ROM,or,is TWRP/ROOT (SD Maid/TI-Bu) the only solution?
I was able to disable the memory manager and clean up stuff, also some utility that seems to make you confirm permissions for apps over and over. Mine was China ROM with multi-language support added.

Which utility are you talking about? The one that ask for NFC permissions? I'm looking how to disable that.
One thing to add regarding EU rom is that BT is working properly now as before with CN rom, BT would take so many attempts just to connect. Now with EU, it connects automatically instead of me continuously trying to get it to connect. One thing I do miss is having wifi calling but I'll get over it.
I wasn't able to disable system apps until I installed https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.namelessrom.devicecontrol&hl=en
I found that app after googling it, http://www.ghacks.net/2016/04/11/remove-system-apps-from-xiaomi-devices/
Yeah, perhaps - if memory serves it was always asking for NFC permissions bit I think it did so with others.

I found it weird but didn't think nothing of it until recently. Been trying to figure out how to disable the NFC permissions on apps and I looked at apps permissions to see if i can turn it off but only saw: Contacts, Location, Phone and Storage.
Sorry, can't recall specifically but I think if you go in through their cleaner utility you can turn it off there.

Thanks, found it in Settings > Permissions > Other permissions.
Definitely gonna open a Xiaomi account here in a few minutes, gonna have to unlock/root/install the EU ROM,the memory management has seemingly went from bad to worse, turning off Google Play Music repeatedly, only keeping 3 apps in recents & having to manually connect my Gear S2 on every boot.
The latter two I can tolerate, especially the Gear S2,as it stays connected once I force/manually do so within the Gear Manager app.
But,the constant interruption of Google Play Music is not cool.
Seems MIUI is the mess I've been reading about for years, some of it is nice but, that Clean Master garbage keeps opening up stuff I don't want (Browser) & closing the things I actually use.
The settings seem redundant as for memory management/permissions: too many cooks in the kitchen.

Yeah its a mess, I had to go in there and manually set everything, I did set apps not to suspend like Play Music and others though. The best part of MIUI is its constant updates if you're into using MIUI, if you're into using stock. Hopefully, there will be devs creating ROM's for this phone soon.
I'm really liking this phone and I'll grow use to MIUI but I do miss the SPEN and TW calendar app though, lol.

[Request] Simple stock Android 7.1.1 Nougat

Hello, so I have been wondering why is there no stock Android available for the SM-J700T?
All I find are certain remakes of the normal Samsung Experience/TouchWiz OS.
I just want a stock Android, the type you would find on the HTC One M8 2014, ETC

? That IS the operating system. U can't remove it. What u are talking about is the Android open source project. Or aosp. It doesn't exist for the US version of the j7. U can theme your phone to look more like pure Android. Download the lawn chair launcher from here on xda. Then use it as toucwiz. Or use my pixel rom . I would get a new phone. J7 sucks man. If u like Android get a Nexus or pixel . Honor has potential too and same price as the j7

Okay. Forget what I said. I was using your Pixel rom, but I have three HUGE issues. 1 is I cannot download Amazon shopping, and can't download web browsers [nvm fixed it], I can't answer calls correctly, and the ui feels like someone sped it up. What I mean is the loading symbols are cats on cat nip, the animations are active, but too fast, and the lockscreen lags. alot.
I'm just going back to stock and using Gravity Box.

U didn't read the Official post. U have to select phone in default applications, it's a pixel UI port bug.u can't use Amazon ? That's weird. And yes everything is way sped up. That's what I do. I make phones fast and battery's last for way longer. Xposed will slow it down to a creep cuz that's what Xposed does... And the lockscreen is a nougat bug.
FYI, read posts before flashing...like the majority of them.. this is all in there..hope that helps

I don't have a MIUI rom and I'd like to have a personal safety app or something along those lines. Auto-sharing your location can be handy in emergencies.
It's not exactly for me, it's for the bunch of people whom I could recommend the app so they can use this app in case of something like a r a p e.
