suddenly, phone ALWAYS goes to Landscape - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Since day one, I have used Nova Launcher on my phone, and the screen rotation has been perfect; always in portrait mode unless I turn it to landscape; all of a sudden, the phone is always in landscape mode, and no matter what I do, it seems to always want to go to landscape..Checked the settings in Nova, and everything looks the way it should.
Any suggestions, short of wiping everything and starting from square one?
Not rooted, and no weird mods installed..
EDIT: NM, Fixed it, by fixing a quick setting thing I had accidentally tapped...DUH!
thanks

Hahahaha, good for you!

Landscape

Is there a way to force the phone to always be in landscape mode? I use my phone as GPS on my motorcycle (KLR650) and have it attached the the handlebars sideways. This works out great except whenever I turn or hit a bump the phone goes from landscape to portrait mode several times which lags out my GPS application and causes it to quit logging my route... This is especially when I am off-roading and NEED to keep track of my route in case I need to turn around and make my way back out.
Possible solutions might be:
-Tricking the phone into thinking it is open all the time...
-Editing the parameters on the accelerometers to think the phone is always on its side...
I don't know how to do either... I've looked for apps but I can't find any.

PM Loccy, the guy who does the better browser, and ask him if there is a way to lock the phone into landscape, because he has a setting for the browser to always be locked into landscape.

[Q] Home Screen in CM 10.1.2 locked on portrait

I recently installed CM 10.1.2 Stable and it was working fine until about a week ago - great work, thanks to the Devs.
The problem that I am having is that the home screen and drawer is locked in portrait mode. I have tried EVERY setting I could find and it only stays on portrait. All the other apps stay in landscape when rotation lock is on (my preferred usage mode) with the exception of the dialer and the lock screen. The only time the home screen behaves is when I put the device in it's car dock - THEN it orients correctly.
The actual events right before it went wonky are as follows:
1) I was using it in the car dock, turned off the vehicle, and removed it. The lock screen seemed to be taking it's time orienting.
2) While I was fumbling with it I dropped it on the corner closest to the USB port (I know, normally it's in an Otterbox but I had just pulled it out of the car). It also got a little moisture on it, but none appeared to penetrate.
3) After I dropped it, everything was stuck in portrait mode - all apps, etc.
4) I restarted, and then did a cold boot, and it got to where I am now.
I have tried reinstalling CM, and various combinations of car dock/rotate settings but I'm baffled. It is my understanding that the accellerometers might cause bad rotation behavior, but it doesn't affect the other apps. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
R

If that happened after your dropped it, you can try to recalibrate the accellerometer (if that's still an option on the cappy).
If that doesn't work, you can always try to flash stock odin KK4 without bootloaders (after a backup of course). But my guess is that it's hardware related so flashing won't change much.
If all fails, you can contact Josh @ mobiletechvideos.com. He's well known around here for fixing cappys.

What did I possible do so I don't do it again?

I was lying down on my back. Hands up looking at phone. I watched some video. I viewed some pictures. I turned it off and shortly after I got up to plug it into the charger.
When I turned the screen on to verify my alarm was set, the screen is normally portrait in orientation was landscape. It would not rotate. So, I unlocked it in landscape mode, which is a tad awkward just because I'm not used to it.
The screen would only rotate into landscape, or portrait, but portrait was upside down! The buttons for back or home were away from me. Turn off screen and back on. Same thing. Lock screen landscape.
So, I figure I'll go do that calibration where you put your phone on a level surface. It pops up in landscape and all I could see was a letter G and rest was black screen.
Rebooting fixed the problem, but does anyone know if I might have hit something or if there's a fix without rebooting?

Personally this hasn't happened to me but I have heard of it happening. From what i have read and heard is that the proximity sensor for some reason gets stuck. i have heard of people using the old flashlight trick that was used on the M7 to fix it but a reboot fixes it every time. So I don't think you bumped anything. hope this helped .

Screen rotate ROM][GT-I9305][Marshmallow][6.0][Cyanogenmod 13.0][UNOFFICIAL]

Using the ROM][GT-I9305][Marshmallow][6.0][Cyanogenmod 13.0][UNOFFICIAL] with pleasure
No problems, battery uses more when there is no wifi around, but I guess that is normal?
The only problem I had was that the screen did not rotate, after boot it worked for a while, then stopped.
The fix for that, well, it works for me is to change a setting:
In the Developer options turn on the Multi-windows mode, you will get a message that it may cause some problems, but I did not notice that.
But it fixes the screen rotation, it works perfect now!

Suddenly lock screen shows as landscape mode!

Hi, I suddenly see that my lock screen (always on display) is switching to landscape even though the screen rotation is locked.
Once I use my finger print, the phone is switching back to portrait mode...
Did anyone experience the same? Never seen something like that. Any solution to keep it always in portrait mode?
Thanks,
Gil.

Disregard. It was a setting of the always on display. Was not familiar with that and it switched to landscape by mistake somehow.
