I have a SM-G950U1, what am I missing on t-mobile? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions & Answers

Is my phone using 100% of t-mobile network features? If not, is it possible to get them? When I put my SIM in it said it was configuring for t-mobile.

You shouldn't be missing anything. I have a 950U1 as well and get my mobile hotspot, VoLTE, and WiFi Calling just fine.

I think the only thing missing is built in Digits.

Do you have VoLTE or wifi calling? Both are standard (should be, anyways) with any S7 or S8 on the UnCarrier (yes - Note8 too); I have both on my ex-VZW S7 running Project L V.4 (which is now on the UnCarrier). Project L is based on the G950 (S8) firmware, so you should lack neither feature.

On my T-Mobile S8 that I have flashed with the SM-G950U1 firmware, I have WiFi calling but I do not see any options in my call settings for VoLTE and the built in Digits function is missing. On previous phones I had to turn VoLTE off because of calls droping, so I am not missing much. and VoLTE.
Edit: It does have VoLTE. The setting have been moved to the "Mobile Networks" setting area.

[UNLOCKED - AT&T] Enable VoLTE, Video Calling, WiFi Calling and more?

My phone: Samsung Unlocked variant running on AT&T
Using a dialer code I've found an app "Testing" that shows options to enable the VoLTE, Video Calling, WiFi Calling & I'm able to pick network type (GSM, UTMS, LTE, ect.) Some options work and some don't. Maybe somebody smarter than me can look into this and possibly enable 4G LTE on AT&T, as well as the other features?
Code: *#*#4636#*#*
Awesome..thanks
have you tried calling at&t and asked about adding your imei for them to enable those on your device.
Thats what i have read online that tech support from at&t can make this service works with unlocked note 8.
Im still waiting for my Unlocked Note 8 and wondering how to enable Volte (HD voice). i dont use wifi calling that much though.

Changing networks does change my connection from 3G to HSPAP to no connection, depending on the option. The VoLTE, Video Calling & WiFi calling are temporarily enabled but then turn back off. Likely provisioning issue but that's all i can tell.

I have and they advised there's no issue. They can't seem to figure it out but I've spent several hours and multiple calls trying to determine if it's an issue or the way things will be.
The only interesting thing they advised of that there's no device description on my account. (Typically it'll at least say Samsung Note8 got example but they see nothing) IMEI and SIM were updated upon activation.
unless something has changed recently, you have to have an ATT phone for all of these features to work. i can only get HDVoice (VoLTE) working on my Note Fan Edition and my wife's S8+, both of which are Exynos devices. I had to call ATT and (a) have them assign the IMEI of an ATT phone (S7 Edge and S7 Edge +) to each account and (b) by flashing an ATT CSC (from a Snapdragon ATT S8+) to the Note Fan Edition and the S8+. The ATT CSC's enable options for Wifi calling and video calling, but these features aren't working on either phone.
Hows your data speed? Do you get 4G LTE speed data?
coz you said your connection is going from 3G to HSPA+

I average just under 5 Mb/s (Megabits, not megabytes which is about .5 MB/s) on H+ Latest test was 4.6 Mb/s
I do not get LTE, but am in a heavy LTE area (Phoenix, AZ) and get solid consistent LTE on my Note 5

WOW thats totally sucks! Im now worried about my preorder.
I might have to cancel my order from samsung and get an At&t brand note 8. I hope this is only a temporary problem with unlocked note users.
Thanks for all the info! good luck on getting all those at&t services.

I have an unlocked note 8 with an AT&T sim. I get great LTE speeds. In the city I get 100 plus Mbs at home or in the country I still get about 20 with only 2 bars of LTE i am only missing VoLTE and wifi calling
I'm hoping it's a setting issue on their end or something. I'm continuing to find a knowledgeable AT&T rep with some info. Good to know the unlocked version gets good LTE speeds. I'll get a new SIM and continue to look for a resolution. Worst case I'll flash radios as that looks like it's a developing option.
I gave up trying to jump through hoops to get WiFi calling and VoLTE and just bought the dang AT&T version when I preordered... If someone could come up with an easy way to get it all with an unlocked version...I'd be tempted to jump on it but until then, I'm stuck with the AT&T load.

That I wanted to be able to use wifi calling and it doesn't work. The went through and made sure all features were enabled.
I have spoken with multiple AT&T reps and after speaking with someone ('ha-seen' is how it sounded) who said that they were with the Level 3 team I was told that video and wifi calling are all proprietary to AT&T and that you have to have a branded phone with their build and that the unlocked version would not have access to this.

I got the same answer. I am calling and complaining to Samsung, I mean I pay to use the AT&T network and the features and the phone is capable of both volte and wifi calling there should be an easy way to fix this.
Just picked up the Note 8 U1 for use on AT&T, switching from a S8+ that was AT&T unlocked. I don't use WiFi calling, advanced messaging was cool but not having it won't hurt, I think. VOLTE is the big question, I know it's voice over LTE but how will that effect me talking and surfing the web at the same time?

EE UK Wifi Calling

Hi folks, I'm having a bit of difficulty or confusion with wifi calling. I'm on EE but my phone is an XEU. There was a wifi calling option that didn't seem to do anything; no icon when enabled and no obvious network connection.
So I switched to the EVR firmware, wiped the phone and set up from scratch. Still got the same wifi calling option, still no icon or network activity with it enabled.
I don't seem to have VoLTE either, I would have thought the EVR CSC would enable that too?
Does anyone have any insight on this?
Thanks.
I have been having weird issues too with a dual SIM version and EE Wi-Fi calling. Inserting a microSD card in second slot can sometimes disable Wi-Fi calling in that I don't even see the option for switching on.
Hopefully future firmware fixes these glitches as I'm really loving this phone after using iPhones for a few years .
Jake
Wifi calling and VoLTE enabled itself after a serendipitous restart today.
Did your wifi calling ever actually work without an EVR CSC or firmware @ajdjackson ?
Edit: Looks like EE had some stuff to set up on my account, problem was at their end. My account says they're setting up roaming and could take up to 24hrs so something has happened to instigate these changes.
Anyway, now I'm really wondering if I need to EVR firmware at all. Samsung's multi CSC system should allow EE's wifi calling but EE would insist that it doesn't. Can anyone chime in?
Yes - strangely mine seems to working OK now even with the sd card in second sim slot. I haven't flashed any firmware at all.
Jake
Right, after a switch back to XEU I can confirm that EE Wifi Calling does work on a non EE phone but VoLTE does not!
So I switched back to EVR and everything's working fine again.
Quite surprising since EE have always insisted that Wifi Calling is exclusive to phones supplied by them, yet I've never read the same about VoLTE.
Hiya,
Just thought I'd share my experiences...
Like you, I'm also on EE and again like you my NOTE 8 is an XEU SIM free model, in my case from CPW. I found the same issue in that the wifi calling option could toggle on and off but the setting didn't seem to do anything; no icon when enabled and no obvious network connection.
I phoned EE on 150 for support but all they could suggest was to reboot my router at home even though I told them I also have a "work's" mobile phone (iPhone 5c) also on EE and that combination does have working wifi calling.
I decided to try a test to determine if the issue was with my Note 8 handset or with my new EE 4G SIM by swapping SIM's between the two phones. The work SIM worked immediately by activating wifi calling in my Note 8. My personal SIM was active in my works iPhone for approx. 2-3 minutes with no signal before a pop-up message appeared asking if I wanted to activate wifi calling. I obviously selected 'Yes' and when I swapped the SIM's back to their original handsets my Note 8 now magically works with wifi calling with the original SIM.
It's almost as if the menu item in the Note 8 for toggling wifi calling on and off doesn't activate the sim card even though the graphic animates to show the function activated.
Anyways, I now have a Note 8 with working wifi calling.
Hope that helps anyone else with similar issues involving EE wifi calling.
*EDIT* Hehe looks like my signature is a little out of date.
S.
Thanks Steve. Do you have VoLTE? I can't get that working without swapping the firmware for the EVR specific one.

Hmm I don't know. I know that I have 'Mobile Networks' setting 'Network mode' set to 'LTE/3G/2G (auto connect)' as opposed to the other settings of '3G/2G (auto connect)', '3G only' or '2G only' but how can you tell if a voice call is routed over 4G? Does a special icon appear as in the case of wifi calling? Hard for me to say as I have zero signal at home and very poor signal at work so in both cases my Note 8 defaults to wifi calling.
Have you tried calling EE to check if VoLTE is only supported on branded firmware as opposed to generic XEU? I know that in the case of wifi calling their website is very explicit in stating that wifi calling is not only supported on EE branded/sourced handsets but also works on certain generic handsets such as S8 / S8+ & Note 8. Their website on VoLTE or as EE term the service '4G calling' is not so clear...

This EE Community Forum post seems to lay the blame at Samsung's door as opposed to EE's...
https://community.ee.co.uk/t5/4G-and-mobile-data/VoLTE-on-Samsung-Galaxy-S8/td-p/559521
Reading the thread fully, it seems VoLTE is only available on EVR and not XEU.

Yes, this shows the VoLTE icon which appears whenever I have no wifi or I disable wifi calling.

The discussion on EE you linked is interesting, so they do limit VoLTE to their own supplied phones. I'd recommend switching to an EVR firmware, despite the guy who says there's no advantage for the user, I've found VoLTE very useful, especially in conjunction with Wifi calling. VoLTE/Wifi calls are so much clearer, they can seamlessly switch if you lose the wifi signal and they seem to connect a bit quicker too.

Ahh there is a symbol, thanks for sharing the picture. I can confirm that do not get VoLTE and whilst it would be good to have every function that I pay for working the fact that I get zero 4G signal at home and at work where I spend 90% of my time means I'm not realistically going to miss VoLTE as my phone now has a working 'wifi calling' service. I suppose that if EE ever get round to providing coverage in the blackspot that surrounds my home location then I might consider swapping to EVR firmware. I won't hold my breath though because in the 20 years that I have lived at my current address, EE and Orange before them haven't bothered with trying to provide adequate cellular coverage.
I remember going through exactly the same crap with my Samsung Galaxy S2, Orange firmware got an app called signal boost and the vanilla xeu firmware didn't and we had to do a number of things to get the app ported over to XEU. Seems like no matter how much technology advances over the years some issues never change.:silly:

Unlocked variant on t-mobile

I have an Unlocked variant which I purchased directly from Samsung.
I don't happen to see VOLTE settings in my mobile networks setting.
Is this normal? I have seen another user post a screenshot from his/her phone which shows VoLTE setting (Telcel network) which can be turned off or on,but my phone doesnt have that.
I am on Tmobile.
tmobile phones have never displayed any VoLTE icons or notifications. Its carrier dependant on if they show it or not.
Unlocked US S10s has every Tmobile feature except Multiline Digits and probably their crappy RCS service
It's also missing the Tmo Video calling.
i have t mobile and always buy samsung international phones. volte, wifi calling,
video calling, and download booster usually dont work until i change the csc to tmo. i would think the ability to do so will be coming once the phone is rooted and out for a while.

1. Normal. The icon is disabled, but the feature isn't.
2. Yes. Testing VoLTE is as simple as placing a call. Phones w/o VoLTE will drop to 3G/2G OR fail if LTE is the only signal avail.
3. VoLTE toggle is missing. I sent feedback to Samsung about this some time ago.

May update enabled WiFi calling on my SM-N950F/DS (T-Mobile)

I have an international (gold) unlocked dual SIM and I thought I was hallucinating today when my phone got the May Android update and suddenly there was an option for Wi-Fi calling in Phone settings. I didn't think it would work but it definitely is at least on T-Mobile as I see "T-Mobile WiFi Calling" when I pull down the notification shade and calls work in airplane mode (with WiFi on).
Super stoked as this definitely didn't work before. Anyone else see this?
Why didn't wifi call work before?
I have a n950f and a German t-mobile sim
Wifi calling always worked

VoLTE not working :(

I can't seem to get VoLTE working on my RM3.
I'm with Telstra (major Australian mobile carrier) and have confirmed that they have activated VoLTE on my service.
I have ensured 'Enhanced 4G LTE Mode' is turned on in Settings.
Have restarted phone several times, reset network/sim settings etc, etc but VoLTE is still not showing or working.
Is it working for others? Any assistance you can provide please @JerryYin ?

If your operator is based on a gsm network, it may not work, I'm using China Telecom and I can get VOLTE working, it is a CDMA operator, however, my another gsm based sim card can not get the VOLTE working on NX629. But VoLTE does work in Australia with all of our major mobile networks so that shouldn't be the issue?
Could it be that our two main carriers both use LTE Band 28 for 'best' 4G connection and the RM3 that I was sent does not have that?

No Volte on UK's EE network.
On top of that, I can't even use "enhanced LTE" option, if I turn it on I get no caller id (when someone calls me I only get unknown caller instead of the name or number of the person).
In india Global version VOLTE is working perfectly for both sims on global Rom as well as Chinese ROM. You dont ses VOLTE but HD icon next to signal bar in CN rom. On vlobal rom when you are calling someone you see HD.

Interesting. Thanks for the info.
Firstly, my sim settings look different to yours, not sure why Nubia has made this setting different in roms for the same phone?
Secondly, I managed to have VoLTE work today with a different mobile carrier sim - I tested and 4G was remaining on during calls! But no VoLTE or HD symbol was evident in the notification bar along the top. @JerryYin can you please confirm if the VoLTE symbol should show on RM3 software? If not, can this be added in a software update please.

voLTE does work on EE. If you have enhanced LTE option turned on and make a call I think you'll find that the call is made via 4g. It also has WiFi calling on EE which can be enabled through the phone app.
Like you say though, using voLTE and WiFi calling does render incoming calls as showing unknown numbers. I'm still trying to figure out why it does this, it's obviously something to do with the IMS settings as it's not optimized to work on EE's network.
