This is quite an interesting project. I'm guessing you have an AppWidget in the app and you're proxying the user chosen widget through it, right?
If that's the way, it should also be possible to add some other provider info XMLs, to let people choose, say, up to 5 widgets.
Anyway, I'm definitely going to follow this progress. You should definitely host on Labs.

Yes, you're totally right. The user can choose a widget in the app and it gets displayed inside the app. Afterwards I take the widget and show it in the Auto Activity. Therefore, it's no problem to extend this to multiple widgets.
I will look into hosting on XDA Labs.
i test it on waze widget. the widget look stretched out full screen, and not able to show any data

Since this is an AppWidget proxy, and it allows you to use widgets not optimized for Android Auto, there's not really anything the developer can do.

You can use my app with any widget you have installed - so any widget that can be added to your launcher should be possible.

Please please please let us add more widgets. Already, years have gone by and the developer support for optimized apps just isn't as robust as promised by now.
Also, phone can't open the apk file. Pixel 2XL 8.1
Thanks OP! Looks cool. However I am unable to install it on Pixel OG 8.1. Is Android O not supported? Thanks!

Perhaps the file didn't download correctly? Could be corrupt.
I used mix Explorer from the XDA labs and it worked fine. Only problem is I can't get any of the widgets to actually show up in Android auto. I have developer mode open so I can use night mode all the time and set it up for unknown sources but no bueno.

Go to the OEM tab in Auto on your car (the one where you'd normally see a "Return to <Whatever>" button), and you'll see a bunch more stuff there.

I took a shot of my screen with my trusty G2, sorry for the lack of quality.
By using Bettercut, I was able to use custom icons and remove the labels.
Thanks to jfritz2 @androidforums (link here: http://androidforums.com/t-mobile-mytouch-3g/187204-icons-cyanogenmod-icon-pack-2-18-11-a.html )
I placed my icons on the left and right edges of the screen, given that 99% of the time I am using the Xoom in landscape, allowing easy access with my thumbs.

I've found that Desktop Visualizer absolutely works with Honeycomb, although it's not available through the market yet. If you can find a copy of the app, you'll find it allows for custom sizes for icons and images placed on the homescreen.
UPDATED:
Using ADW EX, Desktop Visualizer, Widgetsoid, BW, and Pulse, along with some stock widgets.

What toggle widget is that?
A few other things to note...
When searching for icons, I recommend using 256x256 pngs, the standard icons do not scale well in Bettercut or DV. You'll notice that although the icons are 1x1, they are scaled larger when removing the labels.
As for the wallpaper, I'm sure ou noticed my lack of originality. The truth is, I love this wallpaper. I use it as the wallpaper on my Honeycomb themed G2, my laptop and even my Xbox360.

No issues but when I was trying to set it to one screen only, it force closed on me a couple times. Once I got that set, no issues so far. I like the swipe gesture on the application drawer icon. It brings up your last 16 recent apps instead of the 5 limit using the honeycomb one.

I didn't develop the launcher. It's found here. It specifically states that if you have ADW launcher installed already, things won't work properly. Try to uninstall the ADW launcher and then re-install the modded launcher and everything should work fine.

Animated HTC Sense Weather
This is not my work and this can be found at This Forum by @xpirit. Go over and thank him
The reason I made this forum was because the forum has an explanation to use the HTC Launcher as well as may of the HTC features to include blinkfeed which functions great. But all I really wanted was the weather and it's really simple. I did some playing around to see exactly what I needed to get it to function.

Installation:
1. Download this zip file
2. Download the Weather.apk and HtcServicePack.apk ONLY!! There are 2 others you will see in Troubleshooting Section. APK files are attached to this Forum
3. Copy the APKs to your SD Card
4. Install APKs
5. Extract zip File
6. Place the weather folder extracted from the zip inside /sdcard/Android (Important - This makes the Animations work)
7. Reboot the phone and enjoy
It will determine location if you have wifi / battery saving GPS enabled. It all works great for me. Hope this is something people actually want.
TROUBLESHOOTING:
If you are having issues with Location, ensure that it is actually enabled. Also, open weather in the app drawer, click the 3 dot menu in the top right and ensure Auto detect my location is on. Do not add Weather to be blocked by servicely or disable location requests with AP OPs. See Screen Shots below to help with Troubleshooting
If You are still having problems after doing the following you see in the pictures:
1. Ensuring Location services is running
2. Opening weather to verify auto detect is enabled
Do The Following:
1. Go to Settings
2. Accounts
3. Add HTC Weather Service
4. Change the Sync Frequency to Whatever You Want
LAST RESORT:
Download the HtcLocationServicesSetting.apk and LocationPicker.apk from attached to this Thread and install them just like the First 2!!!
Good Luck!!!

I use the Beautiful Widgets and associate taping the weather which launches the weather itself. You can also use that for the 5 day forecast widget from beautiful widgets, set Beautiful widgets to use accuweather like HTC and boom. The widget if there would probably only work on the blinkfeed launcher....I have a link posted to the forum in this OP if you are interested in that...I love beautiful widgets though you probably would to.

TaskerAuto
TaskerAuto allows you to run Tasker tasks from your headunit. That's pretty much it.
I have some home automation gear at home and wanted to open my garage door from the headunit. I already had a Tasker task to do it, so why not be able to run any task from Android Auto?
If you use something like Home Assistant, it means you can do basically anything with your home automation from your car.
How to use:
1. Open TaskerAuto on your phone and select which tasks you want to be available in-car.
2. Have developer mode enabled in Android Auto.
3. Click on the little gauge icon in Auto (on far right) and select TaskerAuto.
4. Your list of tasks should appear. Clicking a task will run it.
Thanks to Emil Borconi from this thread for helping me get the app to run in the last tab.
EDIT: For some reason I can't attach files. Google Drive Link. Puu.sh Mirror
Great idea!
I'll check it. :good:
However, I have another "complementary" idea: Use some Bluetooth hot number in the phonebook for triggering Tasker actions. With this you can also trigger the same actions "dialing" the code... Useful when the AA is not running.
If you like to include also this other function, please contact with me (I have one indirect mode to do it).

Hi!
I use other tools compatible with Tasker. It's this App working as a Tasker plug-in, or it can only work with Tasker?
I ask this because I don't see anything when I open this App.
Thanks for the idea, and sorry it's not working for you =(
I'm using the query described here:
tasker.dinglisch.net/contentprovider.html
to retrieve the list of tasks. So it's not really running as a plugin, and it may only work with Tasker.

OK, thank you for sharing it.
One suggestion: You like to incorporate an alternative mode to trigger actions? For example sending a broadcast EVENT or similar? For example, see the documentation of Tasker plugins: http://tasker.dinglisch.net/plugins-intro.html
One option is create a "Event Plugin" and add to your App a list of actions (Action1, Action2, etc.), then any user can link these actions to Tasker Events in any compatible App.
For example, try these two free Apps compatible with Tasket plugins:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.llamalab.automate
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bartat.android.robot
You agree?

Automatically change the colors of the task list with day/night time. During the night the white is extremely bright on the screen.

The shortcut is the one on the far right in the bottom black navigation bar. See picture below:

These are the settings I have enabled in the developers menu (translated from dutch so may be slightly different):
- Application mode: developer
- Disable ANR check
- Unknown sources

Hi Pierreken,
Thank you vey much for your help.
All is ok now. I can use this useful app.
Thanks a lot.
Thanks fot the app.
But after the last Android auto update.. it's not longer showing under the shortcut, instead shows an app list for AA.
Thank you and sorry for my english
I found android auto (official not available in the netherlands, but got apk mirror), understanding you can build plugins for it... thats how i found this tread. Sounds like a great plugin.
Toke a while until i found out how to enable developer mode for android auto in the newest version.
https://developer.android.com/training/auto/testing/index.html#phone
so.. you have to tab the header 10 times in the about screen before the menu option is available.
however now thats done.. tasker is open.. task is selected in the app... but no option/plugin/shortcut is available inside the dashboard of android auto. Is it only available on the screen of your car, or should it also be available on your phone display (i only have the last one).
Or is the plugin not working with the most recent version of android auto?
I want to run a navigation program in phone, and then run android auto mirroring code, so to have one android auto shortcut to make both..
Can i do this somehow with this?
Thanks,
Sent from my Note 8 using XDA Labs
I cant seem to get this menu to appear? i have developer mode enabled, disabled ANR and enabled unknown sources, but when i click the icon on the far right i only see return to chevy mylink button. nothing else.
I have a samsung s8 non root if that matters.
any help would be great, as i cannot seem to get any unknown source android auto apps to work.

I have found a temporary solution.
Install Vanced Manager and install Micro G, it will give you notification on the status bar, click it and you will be able to access that menu.
Running One UI 4
Go to Settings then Battery and Device Care.

What's next?
I don't find any option to disable the app optimization? There are some apps I need to manage since Samsung always kills it and I don't get any notifications
Go to Settings, then Apps, tap 3 dots (upper right) then Special Access, then Notification Access.

Since Gmail is part of the system app you can't change the battery optimization. The way around this is to delete the app via adb and then reinstall via play store. This way you get the battery optimization option in the app.
This setting can be made in app settings of Gmail app itself. Though app info (long press app in app drawer, press (i) in top right corner), Battery, choose Unrestricted.

Thanks guys. Will try and report back. Just wondering if they removed that option from special access menu.
Been there since one UI 2 and was still present before I upgraded to UI 4
i was wondering where this setting was as well, ever since ive updated to android 12 the majority of my widgets for various apps have stopped updating, Samsung seems to have got a lot more aggressive in killing apps with this version

Hi, it didn't work. The app still got killed even though on the unrestricted. I need Spotify & YouTube to be not killed since I use them when I am driving.
Weird I can't find that special menu anymore after the update!

Hi, I am on One UI 4.1 (on the S20 FE). I have installed vanced manager and microG as you asked. However, I am not able to see the Notification or "Optimize battery usage" in the settings. What do I do from here?
Thanks.

You'll need to open the MicroG & log in to your Google account. Then it should have the notification just like the screenshot I shared. From there you can access that option

In Samsung S21 UItra, it’s very easy to find a battery optimization option.
Step 1:
Go to "Settings" and click on "Device Care".
Tap ‘Optimize now’ to optimize your ‘Battery’, "Storage", "Memory" and "Security".
Step 2:
In 'Battery', tap ‘See more’ to go to Settings and click on ‘Sleeping apps’.
Tap ‘Add’ to select apps you want in sleep status, then tap ‘Add’ once again.
Clean up unused apps and features.
Go to ‘Device care’ in ‘Settings’ and click on ‘Battery’. and then ‘Battery usage’.
Click on ‘See more’ and tap ‘Hide OS and system apps’ Check battery usage and details of apps actually in use.
