navbar's home/menu and statusbar's setting doesn't work - Xiaomi Mi 5 Questions & Answers

Dear all:
I've been using xiaomi.eu ROM since very beginning. At the time I received xiaomi Mix 2 Feb of 2017, the xiaomi.eu ROM was the only ROM that is stable enough for daily use.
because MIUI's confusing number scheme, I*accidentally upgraded to Android Oreo. In that process, many of essential function broke, including
"setting" icon on the dropdown menu on upper right corner
"home" icon on the navbar at bottom center
the "menu" or "app list" button" on the lower right corner
the navbar simply doesn't "pop up" when I am in an app
(see attached for screen shot)
has anyone encounter this issue in the past? how might one resolve this problem? since this phone has no physical button, i often can't get out of an app as result.**
I am using xiaomi.eu with "MIUI 9.3 by xiaomi.eu 8.2.1 beta" rooted with Magisk, but no xposed or anything fancy.
Thanks in advance.
ps no, i couldn't registered onto xiaomi.eu site because they think i am a bot and repeated email doesn't yield any reply.

[Q] Custom kernel/mod like Sense 4.2.2 version for menu bar removal

Not sure if it was discussed, but didn't find anything specific. If it was - then it wasn't focused too much on that.
I just rooted my HTC One 4.2.2 (Sense) and flashed a custom kernel (tried many of the most recent ones). I was very happy with various wake options as well as making HTC logo to behave as menu key. However I noticed a weird behavior of how custom kernels disable"3 dot menu" bar. They disable not just the bottom menu bar that appears only in some apps (i.e. Facebook), that are not fully designed according to Google guidelines. Menu buttons are disabled everywhere, in any app instead - even if they are placed according to guidelines (i.e. in Gmail app, at the top corner).
It's really annoying.. I don't want to hide all "good menu" buttons, I just want to hide the bottom line menu button. Exactly as it was made by HTC in 4.2.2 update.
Currently used method is just modifying /system/build.prop file by adding the line:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1
Click to collapse
Is there any other alternative fix? Is it there is no better alternative, because HTC didn't give latest kernel sources yet? I guess it's also not possible to revert to the stock kernel (without reseting the whole ROM)?..

[Q] MIUI Dev Rom(4.9.19 - MIUI6) - Cannot insert any widget

Hi
I'm using the 4.9.19 (MIUI6) MIUI Dev Rom since today and I'm still trying to add widget on my Xiaomi MI3 desktop.
On the previous dev version (V5) you had to long press an empty part of the desktop to be displayed some menus (with the widget one, and the slide panel visual effects). And now ... this feature seems lost ...
I imagine they moved it somewhere but cannot find where.
Thanks for your help.
... sorry I just found the reply ... simply long press the "menu" button (the one to the bottom left of your xiaomi mi3) ....

oxygen os various questions

dear all, I have some questions about oxygen os, so I m trying to ask some oxygen os users, hope you can help (wondering if buying a oneplus 5 or not )
i'd like to know if the following features are included in OOS:
1. long press vol buttons to skip songs while screen is off
2. editable clock in status bar (like show it center or left also, and show also the date)
3. if extra actions can be assigned long-pressing or double pressing the hw buttons (recents, home/fingerprint and back buttons, not the virtual navbar buttons): I mean actions like for example show volume panel, show quicksettings/notifications panel, show power menu, kill foreground app, screen off etc)
4. dt2s in lockscreen?
TIA guys!
1. No, but instead there are gestures to pause or change song (volume long press probably after rooting)
2. No, not sure can it be achieved w/o Xposed (No Xposed on Nougat at the moment)
3. Yes
4. Yes

The 3t and the 5 used the exact same screen module and size is therefore as good as the same, around the 5.5 inch screen.
yeah thanks i know that, i don't own a 3t, atm i have a mi5, which is a 5 inch, and i feel i couldn't stand a even bigger phone ;( bye!
I'm also interested in #1. I know that custom ROMs support that, I'm sure it's do-able on OOs too. Maybe there's somebody who can enlighten us

Menu button issue

Hello yours,
some apps displaying the menu key into the navigation bar. Some tweaking tools also offers an option to show these menu key generally. So far, so good. But when I touch on these button, the recent panel will be opened - every time. A restart changes nothing... I'm currently on V07.
Has anyone a solution for this?
On a german forum (android-hilfe.de) I found the same issue posted from another user, but these thread is still without any answers.
Many thanks in advance
Dan
It must be a bug in the official rom.
I use a tool called "menu button" in google play, it works well, if correctly configured (I do not show any menu, but I use the menu button in the notification bar of this app).
Waiting for a correction too.

Home button single press not working sometimes

Since I recently switched to a Galaxy S10+, I donated my Mi A2 to my girlfriend. After I fully wiped my phone, she installed it like any other new phone and finished the wizard. All her apps got reinstalled nicely and everything looked nice.
But now the home button (3 button nav) sometimes just stops responding to a single press. When I hold the button I do get the Google Assistant as expected, but single press doesn't take me to the home screen. After a reboot everything is back to normal, but only for a while. The button does show the colored dots when I press it.
What could be wrong? It looks a bit like some process is blocking it to prevent exiting a wizard or something (I had it once on a Pixal tablet, which thought I had the setup wizard open), but the back button does work as expected and I can navigate using different methods.

you need to.provide more info to get the right answer ..just use full screen navigation ...in settings try reassigning it different actions to see what happens ...but sounds like the delay between single press / long press for assistant is what is screwing you ...i disabled long press for assistant cos it kept giving me the assistant when i was trying to get home ....
but still.hard to say since you have 0 info about your problem here
The problem is that I don't have much more information as well. It's hard to reproduce the issue. We tried pinning and unpinning an app, opening different apps, changing the gestures, but nothing seems to trigger the issue.
I also tried gesture navigation, but that doesn't have a gesture for going directly back home. Also I think it's not possible to reassign the buttons on stock rom.
When I used the phone I never had this issue.

on my phone if i swipe up from bottom i go straight home ... by more info i mean
1. device/rom/version/root status/ launcher/ ...stuff like that
2.relevant fixes you tried ...
3. short video of when it happens
anyway .. i don't understand because you can choose what actions you want to happen in relation to the gestures ..so if you wanna go home in one shot assign that action to a specific gesture
have you ACTUALLY tried my fix of disabling google assistant ..so you don't trigger assistant or freeze by holding home button too long ..
try assigning double tap on home to go home ..as a workaround
The phone has no customizations at all: stock rom (Android One), no root, default Xiaomi launcher.
Version: Android 10, march security update (up to date according to Xiaomi)
With the gestures I can choose between:
- navigation using gestures
- navigation using 2 buttons (this is selected)
- navigation using 3 buttons
I have tried the first option. Swiping up does indeed go to the home screen when I'm in an app. But not to my default screen. Like when I swiped right to a different home screen page, it doesn't return to the first one.
I will try disabling opening the Assistant using the home button.

you should downgrade to pie because in 10 many people have lag , ui feezing and later on random reboots.. i think you will find in a month or two the UI will freeze up ..like what is happening now may be a "mini" freeze
pie is stable.. im on miui 12 official pie for wayne and wow am glad i dithed android1 and gave up my obsession of having 10 ..
I just upgraded because Xiaomi pushed the upgrade. And my girlfriend doesn't know how to downgrade.
Besides, I have been using the same phone with the same Android version for a few months without any issues. It's only since she started using it. That's why I was thinking about some wizard/setup preventing the use of the home button, which we had a few years ago on a tablet. But that was blocking more buttons then, so not exactly the same.
