Called ID and Spam Protection - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hi,
I have a Note8 Dual SIM bought in the UK Samsung Store. I've notice that the caller id and Spam Protection option randomly switches off.
Also even with the option on and although I get the Smart caller ID when a number calls, there is no way for me to report the number if I want. What am I missing?
My unlocked S8+ did not had this issue.
Thanks.

When I receive a call from a number that is not listed as reported in the database I have to click on the 3 dots in the upper right hand corner, in that menu I can then choose report and block number.

That option is missing on mine.
Do you have a dual SIM?
Also I recently noticed that my phone is reported as SM-N950F and not by the friendly Galaxy Note8. If I go to the Samsung Members app this is what I see.
What do you have on yours? Can you post a screen Please?

I have a single sim, N950F from the UK (XEF). I'm not familiar with that Samsung Members app. I'm on a custom rom & don't have it but I don't remember having it when I was stock either.
First screenshot shows what it looks like for a reported number. Second screenshot show what it looks like for one not listed as reported in Hiya's database (shows unbl9ck cause I already blocked it, would say block otherwise).

Missing those options on mine... honestly I have tried everything. No spam protection.

Do you have this option? If no, are you rooted?

Yes I do have that option. Not rooted and stock.

Oh interesting, I was thinking that you might not have had that option but that takes care of that. I'm not sure why yours is different. Only thing I can think of is that it might have something to do with carrier or country?

Not carrier or country as I am in the UK with Vodafone UK and my previous S8+ had no issues. I am starting to believe that there is something wrong with it is phone!

[Q] Stock Note 3 lose Unlock after Sent back to Repair

Hi to all
I have a Stock AT&T Note 3 on KitKat, And I bought the unlock code from a website and the Code was working fine
I sent my phone to the Samsung repair center in TX to fix the memory card slot problem.
After a week they sent the phone back to me, and Of course the phone is back to the original settings
When I turned on the phone and inserted my T-mobile Sim card, the phone is asking me for the network
unlock code, so I entered the same code that I used before and it is not working ...
Thanks
You probably didn't get the exact phone you sent them. They probably sent a different one. Check for an old receipt, or the original box for the imei code. See if it's different then the new one. It most likely is. If it is, you will need to obtain a new unlock code.
I checked the IMEI number and they matched
I also thought of that it might have to do with the unlock code
so I ordered another Unlock code from a different site
and it turned out to be the SAME Unlock code from the other site !!
Yes there's only 1 unlock code per imei. It doesn't matter where you obtain the code, it will be the same.
I hate to tell you this, but you'll need to contact the warranty dept and probably send the phone back. Again :'(

Do you think this has anything to do with the Region lock restriction ?
No I don't believe it to be related to region lock.
Check one more thing for me please. Verify that the imei of the phone is what you believe it to be. Open settings and in "about phone" check under status and verify the imei is what you think it is. You can also Press * # 0 6 # on your keypad, Press 'Call' or 'Send' as if making a call. Your IMEI number will be retrieved and displayed on your screen.

do you know anything about this ?
NOTES: If you have a Samsung Galaxy S3, S4, Note 2, Note 3 or your Android version is Android 4.4 (KITKAT): All SAMSUNG devices manufactured after the date of JULY 2013 and Samsung devices running on Android version is Android 4.4 (KITKAT) are subject to REGION LOCKING. If your phone has been used previously with the original carrier, this will not apply to you. However, if your device is BRAND NEW, your must activate it with the original carrier. If your Samsung device becomes Region locked, you will not be able to fully factory Unlock your Samsung devices so it can be used internationally. Even the correct code will not work anymore. In order for your Samsung device NOT to be region locked, you MUST activate (FIRST USE) your S3, S4, NOTE 2, NOTE 3 with your ORIGINAL carrier at least ONCE to take your region lock OFF. After your Region lock is off, you can Sim Unlock your device via Unlock Code. All Canadian Carriers are NOT subject to Region Locking. All USA and European Carriers ARE subject to Region Locking. Region lock is removed automatically after you activate your device with its original carrier. Make some calls before unlocking. (Insert an active original sim card into the device and make a few calls to activate the phone and bypass the region lock. Once you've activated the phone, you can input the unlock code.)
Well after reading that I'm amazed. I believed region lock was based on where you lived and used the phone. Like a person in Europe couldn't use an at&t phone overseas until it was used in the states. I was unaware a person in the U.S. had to do the same if they were using it in the U.S. but with a different carrier. My apologies.
You wouldn't happen to know anyone on at&t would you? Maybe a Samsung rep in bestbuy can help you with borrowing an at&t sim and making a call or 2 on your phone.

I tried to use someone's ATT sim and it doesnt work
Also Samsung is telling me that "as you have unlocked the device from third party site , and this is not considered as official unlock for the device"
I might bring the phone to bestbuy and let them check it out.. since the phone is still under Warranty
There's defiantly something wrong if an at&t sim doesn't work. Are you the original owner? If not do you know the original purchaser? It could have been blacklisted.

The phone is working Fine with an ATT sim card, it has signals
it is just that it is not working after I inserted my tmobile sim card
and entered in the unlock code... So the imei should be fine !
I believe you need approximately 5 to 15 minutes of use on an at&t sim card from my previous readings of other user experiences.

Anyone know how to turn on the Samsung built in Caller ID and Spam Protect

I hate that Sprint wants to charge us to use their caller ID app when Samsung has one built in. I figured out how to enable it, but the app itself isn't loading. When I get a call, it's not actually working and nothing is showing up as caller ID. I don't have this feature: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZRKWRDw00c
I've heard other carriers have this, so is it just a Sprint block or does someone know a way to turn it on?
This is what it looks like: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/caller-id-spam-protection-t3655730
You are not able to turn this on Sprint phones But if you install the unlock firmware , it's on by befault.
When we get root I can show you how to turn this on later

I did contact sprint about this and it would have to be a future software patch...they're supposed to get back to me once they know more about when (or if) it will happen. Don't hold your breath, but I'll you know more when I find out more.
I am able to use this feature on unlocked phone on Sprint network
that option is also not on T Mobile version.
It works on my unlocked phone, in notifications there was an accept terms for samsung callerid.
yeah sprint trippin trying to make us pay for that caller ID
It's pretty janky that Sprint disables a built-in Samsung feature.
unlocked phone

did you buy a unlocked phone or did you have your phone unlocked ?
I bought an unlocked phone
I contact Sprint Technical Support about this. They said it would have to be an update to unlock that feature. They're supposed to get back to me. I'm not holding my breath....
Purchased, meaning no vendor apps loaded. Otherwise it is irrelevant to mention..

N950U1 FW Update N950U1UEU5CRG6 - Own Number unknown

Monday I updated the FW of my US unlocked Note 8 (N950U1 / SD-version) with N950U1UEU5CRG6.
After the update I noticed that in Settings - About Phone, My Phone Number is listed as UNKNOWN. I am using the phone in The Netherlands with provider Hollandsnieuwe (=Vodafone). I am certain that the actual phone number was correctly displayed prior to the FW update.
Not sure if related, but Find My Phone/Device does no longer work via Samsung or Google. Is does work through Bitdefender Anti Theft...
Anyone has this or other issue after the update? Thoughts?

Hi, on my 2 Note8 dual sim, it is said : phone number⇒ unknown. And this from the beginning (on every firmwares). I'm in france using two french sim cards in the phone and i bought my phones on samsung shop. Until now, no problem, everything works great.
My branded, but unlocked 950F, as I paid for it the full price to use it as a prepaid phone displays the same, unknown number, since day one, I bought it directly from the major carrier in Mexico which is Telcel, everything works fine, all services and VoLTE
You mean like this seeing on my screenshot? This number is only visible if it's saved into your SIM card. Since a while, the carriers/operators don't write longer the numbers into the SIM card
So if you don't see it now, you never saw it before!
But there was an xposed module (if I remember right on android 4.4.2) where you can change this (showing) number.
(It don't changed your registered phone number!)
At that time I had found that thread
https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?ur...share_tid=2106490&share_fid=3793&share_type=t
That should be the correct GitHub link:
https://github.com/OXINARF/SIMNumberChanger
But it looks like there is a newer xposed module called SIMEditor - maybe that still works (when your device is rooted and xpised installed)
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.gnufabio.simeditor
Greetings
Spoiler
Sorry for German language. The first line: Eigene Telefonnummer means "own phone number"
Don't be afraid to hit the "Thanks" button if someone helped you. It don't hurts
I've never had my phone number displayed in the information menu. As far back as the Note 3, no matter what firmware, official or custom, or even other phones. I live in South Africa. After reading @Logel's explanation, it now makes sense to me why it never showed to me, because of the way South African carriers assign numbers to customers.

I know it's not the exact same model, but my N950F/DS shows my phone number there like normal. Not sure why it's not showing in your case though.

Editing csc to enable volte

I have SM-N950F/DS and rooted. I have installed custom rom and change csc using csc installer to somehow enable volte but still doesn't work, I searched everywhere and saw some post that adding some lines in cscfeatures.xml and still volte doesn't work, my carrier supports volte. I'm on NTT Docomo. any help???
can anyone please help me how to flash patched csc from DCM???
When I bought my note 8, unlocked, but carrier branded, it coul not work with volte out of the box, I took it to the carrier, and they enabled the service in their system, gave me a newer sim for free, and that was it, VoLTE working, maybe you need to do something like this

I don't know if they would do that thing, their version of galaxy note 8 is completely different, just by their model number(SC-01K), everything is different, and I don't even know if they know these things, they barely know a thing about their products, I wouldn't let them take my phone and take it to their own repair center and tell me that, "oh it's not possible cause your phone is different and it is not purchased from us" or worst is, they would change my phone to the carrier compatible ones, which I hate, cause Japanese samsung phones really really sucks.
Well, I understand your concerns, but they did not took my device, they just checked the imei, asked me for the sales receipt and handed it back to me, and all the process was made in their system, the last part being when they gave me the new sim, which I installed right there to check for VoLTE, well, that was my experience in enabling VoLTE

Caller ID missing on s10? Smart call app available, not functioning as before

Does anyone know what happened to the Smart Caller ID with the S10? I've went through the settings and seemingly enabled everything relating to it, but am possibly missing something? I had it previously on my note 8 and certainly miss having it. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Here's a link to what I am talking about: https://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/apps/smart-call/
I do not have the toggle below blocked calls as noted in this webpage, but I do have 'Smart Call' as an app and permissions enabled. Not sure if it's a Verizon block or something?
I have it with my unlocked s10 on tmobile.
Yeah, sadly I do not have that in call settings. I'm thinking it has to do with Verizon blocking it for some unknown reason, likely to push their premium plans. Really miss having that feature and would be willing to flash if need be to bring it back.
Upon looking further, it appears my thinking was correct, Verizon disables this feature. Interestingly enough, my phone was purchased from Samsung.com in full, no contract pricing, so it comes with the U1 firmware installed. Apparently something must've taken place when I setup the phone and Verizon installed it's own profile. Anyone know of a way to disable this or best method to avoid this so my phone appears as an unlocked phone? Would hate to have to flash via Odin seeing as I am running the U1 firmware already, just have Verizon somehow messing with the unlocked nature of the device.
On 3 in Denmark, I enable it and come back later and it has been disabled again.

Yes it does.
I work in a cell carrier in Canada, when you first put a sim in an unlocked samsung it downloads and reboots with their customizations.
your Verizon phone is NOT preloaded with U1 firmware!
your Verizon phone comes unlocked.
