LDAC Sound profile - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Is there any way to use LDAC before Oreo update?!

LDAC comes within the firmware, unless you get a rom that incorporates it, I dont see how anybody could use it, sony's xperias are the ones that have it natively, as ldac is a bt sony implementation

Sony helped Google to include LDAC in Oreo update

Well, it is good that oreo will/may include LDAC, as it is an improvement, however, LDAC compliant speakers, earphones etc, are another matter

There are a bunch of headphones and some speakers on Sony's site that support LDAC. I have some MDR-1ABT headphones, which are excellent and support LDAC. I also have ATH-DSR9BT headphones for APTX HD.
Also, Oreo does give you Hifi BT codecs for sure. I'm using a Mi Mix with Android 8 on it which has LDAC and APTX HD. The sound quality really is head and shoulders above SBC (default BT codec).
I have seen ROMs on devices that ported APTX HD, but I didn't see working LDAC ports.

Add aptX, can anyone help?

Hi ladies & gentlemen, especially technical gurus,
Does anyone know how to add aptX for our SGT? I list some ideas, including "ridiculous" ideas, at least give you guys a good laugh.
What is aptX?
http://www.csr.com/products/60/aptx
Proof of aptX is better than SBC on electro-acoustic measurement in full digital domain --> http://www.prismsound.com/test_measure/webinars.php?wid=19
Download the 140MB video webinar. Really good. Thanks to Simon WOOLLARD of Prism Sound. Great organization, Great webinar Simon !!! KUDOS !!!
a xda member managed to find the log cat of aptX running in android phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1917962
So, choice of convenience / solution or by ranking of convenience: -
flash aptX codec into existing BT chip within Android phone. Requires purely software only. Does anyone have these software pacakges, tool, aptx codec? Mind me, aptX is a licence and needs to be paid, but surely CSR will not be collecting individually. Who am I to them
flash aptX codec directly into BT chip on phone PCBA. Requires software as above and needs to open up phone and hardwire direct to BT linkage. Can anyone do this?
Buy a 3.5mm stereo jack to BT aptX transmitter, choice of: -
http://www.jaybirdstore.com/s.nl/it.A/id.236/.f?sc=2&category=101 clearly shows aptX on the casing.

but the chinese site doesn't says aptX at all http://www.woowi.com/product/201208/16.html#
Finally, unsolder out the Jaybird aptX chip and resolder into SGT and remove the old chip. Must be same PIN-OUT, manufacturer, type, etc. Kernel, OS, driver must support & match. Else doesn't work.

How about aptX LOSSLESS ?? http://www.csr.com/products/technology/aptX ??? pls click the lossless link. Does it mean currently on the market all are normal aptX and not LOSSLESS type?? the expensive type??
Just in case someone is interested, here's a forum chat with someone from aptX
http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=78217
So, let the ridiculous CHAT beginssssssssssssssssssssssssss.
Well, incase you like such stories, aptX was bought by CSR 2010 Q3, http://www.google.com.hk/search?hl=...252.1707.0j10j2.12.0...0.0...1c.1.rfb882TLcA4
then 2012 Q3 Samsung bought the bluetooth division of CSR, of just the aptX division of CSR, well "mobile business" they call it, not the entire CSR anyway. http://www.google.com.hk/search?q=c...sugexp=chrome,mod=13&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
I tested one of the aptX combinations,
phone is S3 HK, rom is still original 4.1 I think, virgin, no root.
headphone is Denon AH-W200.
music player is default from S3. EQ setting is flat, nothing else engaged.
Other settings unknown, it's not my phone, not intruding to borrowers privacy, didn't manage to check other software settings.
Wired sound is termed as "MIDDLE, or normal". We are not reviewing AH-W200, we are just comparing between aptX vs. wired, vs. normal BT.
listening test (subjective), wired versus BT (assuming aptX is default engaged, as says by CSR)
During BT (assuming aptX is engaged), the bass is overloaded, not yet full distortion, not even slight distortion, just a good 10dB more than wired.
mids and highs are nearly as good as wired. Some moments can hear high frequency loosing out, but most of the time, ??? 80% or 90% is nearly as good as wired, if I did a blind test, probably I would know, but some moments it's just obvious lost of highs like old BT in SBC mode.
Should have borrowed the AW-H100 as well which is all same supposingly, except without aptX.
Anyway,
BT SBC vs. BT aptX
Obvious difference, BT SBC lost of bass even to wired, lost of highs is significant. Midrange clarity suffer some, but unknown if not perform a immediate swap A B test.
BT SBC was from P1000, rom alroger's 4.1.2, xing player apk, DSP manager all flat, WM8994 in all default settings, direct DAC, Hi-Fi playback.
Headphone is AW-H200
Verdict = aptX has significant improvement over SBC, I'm a believer now, but am not satisfied with the +10dB bass boost. Was it Denon's engineer liked bass so much added a EQ setting when aptX engaged?
Who know????

Oreo poor sound quality / Bluetooth

Hi,
I updated my P10 to Oreo yesterday and I have a big problem. Sound quality on Bluetooth headphones is veeeery low. I'm using Spotify (premium if that's matter). Anybody have this problem? Or maybe a solution.
That's gotta be disappointing! Sorry for your trouble. Do you know if your headphones have bluetooth aptx?
AFAIK, the p10 has bluetooth aptx (https://www.aptx.com/products/huawei-p10) which should result in decent sound quality when paired with aptx compatible bluetooth headphones and speakers. My own very subjective tests comparing my p10 plus vs my non-aptx tablet when paired with a Marshall Woburn speaker supports this claim but I'm still running nouget. I wonder if the aptx is still active in Oreo?
I tried to change a bluetooth codec in developer settings but it's not working so I guess my headphones supports only SBC codec :/
The issue seems to stem from audio Codecs resetting. I have similar troubles with the Mate 9 where the audio is terrible unless I go into the developer options WHILE music is playing and change the settings, then the quality gets better until either a song is paused or something else causes an interruption in the audio playback.
Seems it is a bug. It triggers itself back to SBC only no matter what headphones are connected. I have Phillips with AAC support and the worked fine before upgrade. AptX model I have is not working correctly too. So the only way now is to wait for the fix I think...
Thanks for following up to this thread, Syndirail and ylapas. Since I use bluetooth for music every day I won't be upgrading to Oreo until I know this issue is resolved.
Unexpected surprise - P10 with quite cheap Chinese QCY headphones just connected to high quality aptX audio and sounds great, while Phillips sounds like crap definitely Oreo bug in determining hardware capabilities.

Proof with QCY headphones connected.
My Sony headphone with LDAC is recognized and works very well.
Seems it can be a problem with headphones which does not have aptX / aptX HD or LDAC support, but have AAC. In Android 7 it worked well, in Android 8 it is for some reason limited to SBC only and never turned on, even if supported by the headphones.
ylapas, how can I view the bluetooth stats as you did in your attachment?

You need to disconnect blutooth and reconnect, and then turn on your equipment..
My Sony UHP-H1 plays LDac to my Stereo and ht, my Xtz Divine headphones play aptX, and my Audio Pro T3 plays SBC, but it plays SBC from Spotify premium and all codes on Poweramp stunningly great...
SBC don't need to be poor with good signal, and good Dac and speakers...
I can't verify, can someone please do tests measure and verify. Huawei says no, you must buy mate10 or mate10 plus.
I try to get confirmation from Google Android but can't reach them.
I try to contact Sweden Google today.
Please update the thread...
---------- Post added at 08:21 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:58 AM ----------
I contacted my telephone company on phone.
They are on the case, waiting for confirmation on mail.
Could anyone confirm if other codecs except SBC work? (I've also found issues on the Mate9 forum)
My Sony MF-100x connect only on SBC and the sound quality is not that great (when compared with an iPhone, not sure if only the codec is to blame though .. )
From developer settings any chance is reverted as soon as the dialog closes.

Forgot Huawei confirmed that aptX on P10 is working.. still waiting for confirmation on LDac...
Yes, aptX is working on my P10 (Oreo). Tested with Sony MDR XB950B1. Anyone using MDR 1000x to confirm LDAC?
I have Sony UHP-H1 bluray with LDac...
But i dont have time to test now..
I have Jabra BT320S...Not so bad BUT, remains in low quality even after playing in DEV settings... But its not that awful,i can deal with that...will try in car
Edit1...
Ive tried different earphones on my jabra bt.. surprise...the ones offering best audio quality are the one i paid 1.99 $ at Dollarama...really cheap/crappy and unknown mark ...with original settings.
The sound with original Jabra JVC HA-EB75 really sucks...gets better if i push the speaker inside my brain through the ear hahahah
Edit 2..
just found in...you know, that third drawer that we put unused stuff.....some old Samsung from S2 and Woahh...Those im gonna keep :silly:

Yes, aptX working fine, just not AAC - all my not aptX equipment is pushed back to SBC only now, even if it supported AAC in version 7 and sounded great.

Oreo and BT Audio Codecs

Anyone know the bit rate for the Samsung HD codec? Is it similar to Aptx?
I found if you use the Samsung sound personalisation feature with Samsung Level headphones and the Samsung HD codec you can okay quality sound. I am using FLAC files for music source.
Also discovered a problem with BT LDAC. My Note 8 does not recognise that my Sony WH 1000x M2 headphones support LDAC. I have to select LDAC manually!
Not really a problem...just turn it on once after you pair the headphones and that's it.
Also, if you go into Dev options, you can see various settings for bluetooth audio.
In regards to SamsungHD bit-rate, you can Google that one on your own.

No, only devices that support LDAC like the OP's Sony XM2's and my Sony MDR1000X's. LDAC is a Sony wireless audio codec if you haven't figured that out yet. :silly:

AAC Bluetooth codec?

Hello All,
Just got this phone to replace my pixel 2 and the bluetooth connection to my wf-1000x is horrible.
when i connect to the P20 it stutters, skips and sometimes just disconnects on my few minutes walk to work.
Went back to the pixel and not such issue, completely rock solid connection.
Not only that, the headset connects to the pixel using AAC but won't go higher than SBC on the P20.
Is anyone else experiencing poor bluetooth performance and has anyone managed to get AAC working?
You sure you have them on "priority on sound quality" mode? That's what I needed on my Sony MDR-1000X to get anything other than SBC, which is pretty nasty I agree. I'm happily using LDAC and it's a completely different league in terms of sound quality.
Once I made the change it was showing LDAC in developers settings menu.

These are the truly wireless buds, there is no LDAC support but AAC should still be much better which is what works on the pixel 2.
Refuses to go on the p20 even if choosing it manually and yes it's set to sound quality
Have the same issue with the bose qc 35ii that came with the phone, emailed support and awaiting a reply. Seems stupid to have the option and not be able to use it.
Beoplay E8
I have the same problem with beoplay E8. Will also mail the support.
Got the same issue with the Bose headphones only using SBC, does not switch to AAC. Have the latest firmware on the headphones & firmware 120 on the P20 Pro. Bit annoying considering one was a pre-order for the other. My budget £40 set can switch between SBC & AptX!

I actually emailed Huawei regarding the AAC codec being broken. Apparently, the P20 Pro does not support AAC for Bluetooth. The technical specs on Huawei UK says "Bluetooth®: BT 4.2, aptX™, aptX™ HD, LDAC and HWA are supported"
But in developer mode, the AAC codec is there, but the setting wouldn't stay. I wonder whether there are any hacks that we can perform to install the codec.
LDAC . APTX , APTXHD ,... which is the best ???

Bluetooth audio quality

Hey all, have the razer 2 and have noticed the bluetooth audio quality is garbage. Ive tried different cars, different headphone etc and they all sound worse than AM radio. I though android oreo had support for AptX -HD, LDAC etc,,,,,but it seems its not active on the razer 2 ven if you open developer options...any recs???? I know i can use the dongle but that defeats the purpose of wireless headphones
thx!
I generally don't use bluetooth, as bluetooth compresses audio, giving you less quality. I had zero issues using the dongle with some decent Sennheiser earbuds, they sounded really good, but I haven't used my headphones yet. My wife has some cheap-ish (around $30) Anker brand bluetooth earbuds, and I tried them on the Razer 2 - they sounded as good as they do on other devices, I didn't notice anything distorted or out of place. You may try checking your Atmos settings, or even turn it off when using bluetooth and see if that helps.
Thx for the info I agree,I dont use Bluetooth except in the car for streaming as I'm not a big fan of Android auto, and you are right as it is compressed . But my phones sound quality over Bluetooth is very muffled and obvious. I've tinkered with the Atmos effects and it had no effect....wondering if I got a bad unit. The fact that your wife's earbuds sound the same as other phones leads me to think I gotta bad unit because it's virtually unlistenable through Bluetooth"(
It's gotta be your phone. My hammerhead Bluetooth sounded great with my Razer phone 1. But they sound amazing with my Razer phone 2. And range is greatly improved.
The Razer Phone 2 will use AAC, which is not too bad at all. I wish I could get it working with LDAC, though, for better sound with my Sony NW-ZX300 or my Audeze Mobius.

That is totally inaccurate. the RP2 doesn't have aptx or aptx-HD support, even if you go into developer settings and try to force it to use aptx. I currently haven't been able to get aptx working properly, even with magisk modules.
That's correct. It's been disabled by Razer, and turning it on in Dev options does not work. You have to use the LDAC magisk module to get it to work...
As it happens, I have a HiBy WT so I can use UAT so I have a solution. Not everyone has this device tho.
