Power Off Marshmallow? - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have Marshmallow 6.0.1 installed on my Nook HD Plus. It has the problem of having to hold the power button in until it shuts down ( just selecting the power off selection of the power off menu results in a reboot). I can create a script shortcut that uses "poweroff" from busybox to shut it down. ("Reboot -p "results in a reboot......"shutdown" does not exist with my version of busy box.... and I have read that "halt" just shuts down the CPU without removing power. The "poweroff" command works but you have to hold the physical button down for a while for power up to occur when you want to turn the Nook back on. Does anyone know if it is safe to use the "poweroff" command in this fashion? Thanks.

rebooting when choose power off
I've encountered the same oroblem with this ROMs: lineage-14.1-20171216-UNOFFICIAL-ovation.zipand aosp_ovation-ota-N2G48H.180212.zip.
And on aosp_ovation-ota-N2G48H.180212.zip Wi-Fi connection getting lost after rebooting and need entering password again..

tnx for helping witn Wi-Fi issue, but power off problem is still annoying on my Nook HD+
can the CWM recovery 6.0.4.6 cause it?

With the AOSP ROM, if you don't mind Xposed, you might try the APM+ module. That allows you to basically rewrite the power menu and "fixed" the problem on one AOSP 7.1 ROM I was looking at. Can't say if it would work for sure, and it might not work at all on Lineage (probably would need to disable any LNOS extended power menu options first to have any chance of working there). A backup before trying would be good.

"Power off" causes Reboot
I've changed four ROMs:
cm_ovation-ota-NMF26Q.161222
aosp_ovation-ota-N2G48H.180212
lnos_ovation-ota-NJH47F.171021
lineage-14.1-20171216-UNOFFICIAL-ovation
also tried from terminal #reboot -p
but all the same.
May be "Cyanoboot universal bootloader" from emmc-cwm-early3.1.img makes it?

Every ROM from CM 12.1 on has this issue, or similar. Sometimes there is a reboot. Sometimes the tablet just hangs on shutdown with only backlight on. Some newer ROMs boot into recovery when "Restart/Reboot" is selected. No one has a fix except for the possibility of the Xposed module I suggested to you. I know for a fact it does not work with CM 12.1 (in fact, the Xposed installer app causes screen blinking). I have tried it with an AOSP 7.1 ROM and got it to work, but it may be a one-off.
If you don't want to try the Xposed module then your only recourse is to hold the power button in until the screen goes dark. That's a "shutdown".

[Q] Fastboot not working, no power button, how to flash?

Hello.
I woke up yesterday, dig into my pocket tried to turn it on... battery was dead so I plugged it in, and then ever since, the power button is unresponsive. It showed no previous signs of flakiness. But I've since spent the last 2 days digging and searching for ways to salvage. I see that Cyanogenmod has a nice trackball wake feature that could solve my problem. I download the sdk, and try to unlock the bootloader with fastboot, but fastboot FAILED with status read failed too many links (on windows 7). I tried on a Mac and it also failed for similar reasons. ./fastboot-mac oem unlock
... ERROR: usb_read failed with status e00002ed
FAILED (status read failed (No such file or directory
So from what I've read, pretty much all flashing of roms require either a power button and/or fastboot (because of the radio?). Is there another option I'm missing? I was able to root the phone by downgrading from 2.3.4 to 2.2.1 using the passimg method and using superoneclick. So now I have a rooted froyo phone, with no power button and can't seem to access with fastboot.
Any assistance would be great. I'm just trying to salvage the phone and resurrect it.
Thanks.
Ok, I think I've done something wrong. I used ROM manager to download and install cyanogenmod 7 but now my phone hangs on the X. I let it sit for like 30 mins. Then pulled the battery and booted into recovery mode and reloaded the passimg file from before. It is currently back to froyo. What, if anything can I do? Thanks.
You're never going to be able to use fastboot, because unlocking the bootloader requires you to use the power button to confirm that you wish to unlock...
Make sure you wipe before you flash a new ROM.
Using the ROM manager I selected to wipe everything and then it reboots into the triangle exclamation point. What is the method to flash without fastboot or a power button... it seems even the ROM manager needs the power button. What am missing here?
You need to install a custom recovery. You can do this from ROM Manager - don't use Clockwork 3.x
Thank you so much! I was able to push it through that way. Now that I've got CM7 on it I'm good... but now I'm left wondering if there are better ROMs out there... guess its time to play. Thanks again.
Ok, Now of course... there have been issues. Just getting it up and running had me a bit too excited. Now it seems that the screen is fading in and out... while 'sleeping' and usually when I unlock the screen the power off/airplane mode menu comes up. I 'think' the power button has regained some limited function... and is constantly pressed perhaps. Because now when the screen does remain asleep for a second, I can push the power button and it will wake. But when the phone is on, if I push it, it doesn't go to sleep. I've done some searching but haven't been able to find an app that disables the power button on the N1.
Any thoughts on what I could do, because this is quite annoying. It just flashes off and on and off and on. Thanks again.
The power button is on a separate board connected by a ribbon cable. You could just disconnect the cable?
You could just buy the button with a flex cable, and fix the phone...
Yeah, that too - lol!
Once inside the box, its sometimes difficult to think outside it! xD

Want to change rom, but problem with power button

Hello ladies and gents,
I ahve a very simple question, i want to follow the CyanogenMod thread to change roms on my milestone because it is acting up on me and it def. needs a refresher, but my main problem is that my power button does not work anymore, and i'm afraid the only way i have for it to turn on is if i connect it to a computer...when i just connect the phoen to a wall it just shows me charging...but as soon as i connect it to a computer it officially turns on.
So, do i need my power button to be able to complete the rom change, AND, is there such a thing as a rom or an app that would allow me to turn the phone on with a different button????
Thanks for your help peeps it is greatly appreciated!!!
Did u tried alt+shift+del button combination on phydical keyboard to reboot?

Since my power button is broken, if ever it shuts down or needs to restart and doesn't automatically, i don't want to have to unplug it and/or temper with it...so basically well, that was exactly my question; will i ever need my power button while flashing/changing roms on the device?
If not then i will go ahead and do the rom change.
My 2nd question was, since my power button is broken, my screenlock/unlock is also unfunctional and if ever my phone shuts off i can't turn it back on unless i connect it to a computer. Is there such a thing as an app or a feature(from a specific rom) that would allow me to configure the phone to turn on with a different button? Same thing for the screenlock/unlock.
I hope i explained myself better
Thanks for your time!!

Can't help you for the first question... Think it's impossible to boot without power button nor plugged USB.
But for the second, it's known that all CM (at least since 7) have this option : wake up with volume buttons
Some other ROM include it but can't tell you which one. Sorry.
What scoutme saying is correct, when the mobile is turning on and if u have pressed the camera button, it will trigger boot to recovery mode.
One more suggestion, why don't u use quick reboot widget, it has option to reboot to recovery. It does all what physical power button does. Try it out...

I've been dealing with this problem for about 6 months or so, if you are about to start from the scratch like sdcard partition and sbf and applying stuff I guess there's' no way you can do it...
All I did was downloaded the required ROM and placed in OR and I got a app for getting to recovery which is "Quick Boot"
Search on play store, its free ;which has got 4 options in it namely reboot, recovery ,boot loader and power off ...did it that way
Hope this helps

To wake up the device (booted device, that has a locked screen) you can slide out the keyboard. CM7 indeed has a setting to wake it up with volume keys. For CM9 I do not remember and CM10 does not have that option yet as far I have noticed (I could be wrong, though).
What ROM do you currently have? Motorola stock? CyanogenMod? What version?
If you have non-moto it is rooted and has a busybox installed. You can execute
Code:
reboot recovery
form Terminal emulator which will take you to recovery. You can also connect it to computer, open Command prompt/Terminal (depends on your PC OS) and execute
Code:
adb shell
reboot recovery
Ccommand
Code:
adb reboot
to reboot the device or
Code:
adb reboot recovery
to reboot directly to recovery should also work. I'm unsure if it works on moto stock.
(Make sure you have enabled USB debugging in Settings.)
After that you should be directly in open recovery menu. Or press Volume up + Camera button if "stuck" on triangle screen.
Keyboard key combo, Left shift + Right alt + Delete reboots the device.
No matter what method you used to turn on the device you should be able to boot to recovery: while device is booting press and hold the keyboard X (needs to be done early in the process) to boot to recovery if you have bootloader 90.78. For previous bootloader vesions the camera button should do the same.
To boot to bootloader you need to press and hold D-pad up while the device is booting. Afaik, command
Code:
reboot bootloader
will boot to fastboot mode which is of no use for flashing sbf files (I can only assume that 3rd party apps and widgets use that method to get to bootloader/fastboot). You need bootloader mode to flash vunerable recovery, if not done already.
As minor side note, you have posted a help request in a Development section. Plus, all of this has been discused already. It is mostly scatterd around but not impossible to find.

I get into recovery by plugging it in anywhere, PC or wall, then hold X while its booting, once the recovery screen shows up, unplug, let go, and press whatever buttons you need. If its not X that you have to press, press whatever you need to when its booting.

For your question 1, please install this in your phone: http://www.mediafire.com/?wvw2sde2eldw2x4
there will be two icons in your phone afer installed, one for power off (can reboot into Recovery)
,another one is screen off.
For the second, all CM6(cm7 not sure) have this option : wake up with volume buttons (setting>cm setting>input setting>volume rocker wake)
By the way, if the PowerLock.apk doesn't switch you to recovery, you may need to copy this to your phone:
http://www.mediafire.com/?kvq45p4nscjwf88
How to use 60autoboot_or :
1) copy it to your system floder first
2) change permissions as:
VVV
VXV
XXX
3) then move it to system/etc/init.d
4) REBOOT

oh and the reason why i ''lol'ed'' is beacuse all the terms he used in his post i was unfarmiliar with, so it was foreign language and i was confused as **** lol

[Q] Can't remove battery ... How do I fix this?

Made you look!
Yeah I know that the battery is non-removable, but I'm stuck.
I had Renovate nightly installed on my One and on rebooting it went to the HTC logo, then the screen went blank and after a couple of minutes looped.
However pressing the usual power and volume buttons had no effect other than to cause the capacitive buttons to flash.
When I plugged the phone into the pc and tried something ... I can't remember exactly what (not that there's many options) I finally got into the bootloader and then from there into TWRP.
Maybe this is where I went really wrong ...?
Instead of wiping and flashing I decided to just reflash the ROM. everything was good until after the aroma installed where I have the choice of "save logs" or "next" buttons to press, and it froze ... but again any combination of power and volume does nothing just the capacitive buttons flashing at me forever.
On any other phone I've had I'd pull the battery and try all over again ... please help!
...someone ...
Hold the power button for 7 seconds. When the buttons flash, do not let go. It will then force itself off.
If you're in recovery, you can try to use adb command like this:
Code:
adb reboot
or
Code:
adb reboot recovery
.
However, if you've a bootloop, try and try to reboot with the longpress of power button.
And if your rom will not boot, try to flash the kernel in fastboot
Unfortunately holding the power doesn't force reboot, the buttons just keep flashing ... I'll see how long I can hold it for ... again.
And I can't get back to recovery either. it's still in the aroma (kinda waiting for the battery to empty now) obviously adb won't work while in the aroma.
I really don't like these aroma installers, just give me .zip ... they work perfectly for me.

Aroma is cool.
Only with our Phone and, thereotecally, with the S4 will have freeze.
This, because, binary aren't updated for FullHD screen.
However, sooner or later, it will reboot, just try and try
Yeah .. sore fingers, that was about 2 minutes of holding the power button ... entered recovery, flashed a kernel, but still no boot time for a full wipe and reflash I think or try a restoring a backup.

Maybe try TrickDroid or OrDroid
InsertCoin is good too!
Little trick that I have discovered after having same scary experience where aroma would stuck and no power button or adb would help rebooting.
Press and hold power button for 5+ seconds and then while still holding it press one of the capacitive buttons, either home or back. Voila!

[Q] CM 10 issues

Im using "[STABLE][ROM][4.1.2][JZO54K] CyanogenMod10 | BUILD #3" for few weeks now and I find is much much better than the stock ROM i had, despite the issues im facing.Big thanks to the developer for resolving the issues (had been following CM9 development as well).
Now to the issues im having."WARNING: It might get lengthy"
The wifi seems to be quite "moody" as it connects when it pleases. The airplane mode trick doesn't for me most of the time.i need to reboot and then i find my wifi is connected.Once i disconnect it it may or may not reconnect without the reboot.(hence moody)
The 3g also troubles me.I need to turn it off and on again and again. It just sleeps when not in constant use and refuses to wake up without disconnecting.
I also have to confirm a certain behavior of my phone after flashing. When i reboot my phone or do a turn off - turn on it hangs to a white screen with HTC written on it in green. So to start my phone i go into boot loader menu and select recovery. Now what selecting recovery does is loads my CM. im not sure whether its supposed to be like this.
here are the steps i followed (did it more than once to be sure)
1. Unlocked BootLoader
2. Rooted my phone
3. Installed CWM recovery
4. Followed the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265060
Any help is appreciated. Also im open to alternative equally awesome ROMS.
yeah these are known bugs, we can't do anything against it now
For the wifi issue,
Turn on the airplane mode while the wi-fi is on so that when you turn airplane mode off,the wi-fi connects automatically..this works for me all the time...
Turning wi-fi off before switching on airplane mode and turning it back on after switching off airplane mode doesn't work all the time...
Hope this helps

you can try this: Make sure that your phone is off then connect it to your PC using USB cable
then It will automatically boot in recovery
OR
Press and Hold vol down button+Power button until htc screen comes up

Vol down + Power takes me to the bootloader menu with four options, "Recovery" as one.Selecting "Recovery" boots into CM 10.Also this is the only way i can turn my phone on to go into CM 10.Normally turning on just freezes at the HTC screen (white background with HTC in green) so to turn it on i HAVE to use the recovery option from bootloader.

[Q] Doesn't able to get into recovery

Hello everybody,
I'm newbie around here. I like solving my problems but this time I couldn't find any proper information.
History: My phone stopped to save photo after taking. It occurred several times. I was using android revolution hd 6 at this time. Then I've tried to change my rom to 4.2.2. I've got into the recovery and superwiped all the data. Then I've tried to choose 4.2.2 zip file but "back menu button disabled" I've tried several combinations to change it. But it didn't work. Then I thought that if I reboot it, it can be okay. I turned off my phone by removing battery. Then I've waited a little and pressed on power button to use last power inside phone. After all the things, I tried to get into boot menu but power + volume up or power + volume down didnt work. So I'm not able to install new rom.
I've attached some log files for superwipe and recovery. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. I hope we'll solve this problem.
I was trying different combinations to get into recovery. I didn't understand exactly which combination but now I'm in recovery. Sorry for taking your time.
Since you are rooted, you should have option for soft reboot under settings or developer option.
If you can't find, install app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.siriusapplications.quickboot
this will allow to reboot directly to recovery from phone
If adb enabled....i think you can connect to pc and give command to reboot to recovery...
if I remember correctly....
adb reboot recovery (but google it before trying)
