I am not sure why, but sometimes I will go to browse the internet and Opera keeps displaying a message that the remote gateway is not responding or that it has timed out or something similar to that.
Generally I have very strong signal strength and it often happens when I have HSDPA switched off though I cannot confirm that it is always this way. With HSDPA switched on, it can sometimes take a minute or so to connect, but I dont think I get this issue. As I say hard to tell as I tend to switch off HSDPA except when I want to do some extended browsing.
I have no other issues with my Diamond - I would go so far as to say that in every other way it is perfect!
Does anyone have any idea what my problem might be? Oh, I have an unlocked SIM free phone and I am using my T-Mobile SIM in it.
Thanks in advance.
I dont use / dont give a great deal of GPRS - Edge Speed on my Galaxy Note unless i have few emails to be checked as the Social Networking and stuff like that are Blocked in my Office //
So anyways the Question is ... When i want to Connect to GPRS I click / TaP on the Power Button and select "Data Network mode" and it shows Activated and I see that 'E" symbol on the Notification Panel showing up ... but However Sometimes I dont see that getting showed up and wont be able to Connect to GPRS at all ... and the only way to resolve this is I got to reboot the Phone.
anyone else is facing this issue ? .... Mine is Vodafone Mobile connect Plan.
Ofcourse i plan to move to 3G.
Thanks
Sai
When you press power button
data network mode either activated/decactivated, you can toggle it by tapping it.
so you mean to say data network mode is not highlighted
OR
it not works even you tap it?

Hi again Ketan,
WHen I Tap on that Option it shows as Activated but i dont see the 'E' Symbol in the Notification area and hence wont be able to Connect to GPRS.
However I say this happens 2/5 times.
I am in 50-50 whether it phone issue ? or network issue ?
The same thing i also tried with "Settings - WireLess & Networks - Mobile Networks - Use Packet Data " ... most of the time it works but when i am in urgent damn it doesnt show up ... I had to reboot the Phone.
any idea where is the Issue ?
This weired thing i have seen on friend's device. Though it was galaxy fit, but i remember it was happen to perticular network, he had another sim card n thr was no issue on other. So i believe it should b network side. Try changing sim card, just buy new sim n try it.

Even i was using vodafone. I experienced the same problem. That is because of the network. The only thing you can do is whenever you lose the 3G or 2G data, you need to switch on to airplane mode and then switch it off. I used airplane mode toggle application from the market. Once you go into airplane mode and come back you will be getting the data network. But this failed to work few times. So i changed my network to bsnl and now i don't have any issues.
It looks to me Network issue .. I am also Using Vodafone.
Anyways lets see after i migrate to 3G whether this problem will be resolved or not.
Thanks
Sai
i was using 3G in vodafone. The problem was not solved thats why i changed to BSNL. So before changing the plan try it once.
This seems to be happening to me too. I have been using the Galaxy Note II with 3G on Vodafone without any issues for a month now, but today irrespective of me switching on the mobile data, the icon won't show up nor would internet work. I have restarted, toggled flight mode but no avail.

yes, I have seen this on my note, and I have used airtel 3g aim, reliance as well but still the same. only way is to reboot the phone. anything else I do will not restore data connection
Hi all,
Is there anyone here using a Galaxy Note with Idea in Kerala (specifically Trivandrum)?
I am having real trouble connecting to Idea's GPRS net, with the Note insisting that it cannot connect to the network (data only - voice works perfectly).
This happens with both the E (GPRS?) and H (3G?) data indicators. The arrows either remain dark, or the down arrow remains orange (up arrow green). Is this normal?
I have downloaded and installed all the configuration messages sent to me by Idea when I first inserted my SIM.
I currently have four listed access points:
idea_gprs
idea_internet
idea_mobile
idea_mms
No matter which one I select to use, the Note keeps insisting there is a network error.
So I cannot use Google Maps for driving directions, or even Voice Talk in driving mode, because I keep getting the message:
"Cannot connect to server. Please check your network settings and try again" in a dialog box on the Voice Talk screen which takes me to the network settings.
This is especially true in Voice Talk.
Please help.
I've faced this issue a few times on idea kerala network usually between 11 30 pm and 2 am. It's a network issue. you simply have to wait it out , in a few hours it will start working again.
I think idea's apn is "internet" not "idea_internet"... change the settings and try again...
have you tried it with other networks providers? check if 3g is working to make sure this issue is not phone specific.
Thing is, the connectivity has been spotty at best, but since the past couple of days, I have not been able to connect at all.

Samsung Voice Talk
Right.
As far as I can see, Samsung Voice Talk is the only app that regularly has trouble with Idea's GPRS/3G.
Generally service is so poor and connectivity so slow that I initially thought it was a device issue.
However, on further investigation, I find that Voice Talk, while it works perfectly on WiFi, will not do so on GPRS/3G.
Everything else connects with blazing slowness, thanks to Idea.
The one constant is that whenever I try to use Voice Talk under Idea, it immediately throws the error:
"Unable to connect to server. Please check your connection settings and try again."
This dialog box has a button to the connectivity settings menu.
However, no matter what connection I choose out of idea_gprs, idea_internet and idea_mobile, Voice Talk continues to throw the same error.
Any ideas?
I am thinking maybe delete and re-install all the Idea APN's.
Anything else I should/could try?
Thanks in advance for all your help.

Hi XDA, I bought a Z3 Compact a few days ago, and yesterday this weird bug occured for the first time. The data is simply turned off suddenly when I check my phone, and nothing I do will turn it back on.. Toggling mobile data back and forth, searching for networks and clicking different ones, downloading internet settings again, airplane mode on/off etc. - nothing works except rebooting the phone, and then the data works again until next time it messes up. It did it again last night.
I googled the issue, and it seems some S4 users have had same problem with Android 4.4.2? Link to the issue is found here http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/70532
Apparently they report that you cant make calls either when this bug occurs, even when the phone says it has bars, however I havent tested regular calling. I will next time my device bugs out.
Has anyone experienced something similar and/or is there any way to fix it?
I had the same issue but only when Stamina mode was enabled. After a few hours I would lose mobile data and only a reboot would restore it. I cleared data for Eco Mode Controller, rebooted and the problem hasn't reoccurred since. Not sure if this helps or not.

I don't have it enabled, but I will definitely try clearing data for eco mode controller.
Also, I figured out that I can still make calls even when the data doesn't work. So it is not the same issue that is described in the link.
I think you have the same issue as described in this link? https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xper...sappearing-in-Stamina-mode/m-p/845155#U845155
I have had stamina mode on however, so I will try it anyway.
I believe I had the same issue as you: cell signal dying after a while, but more often when cell reception was likely to be cut off (e.g. poor service areas or stamina mode). I'm also on T-Mobile in the US.
You can try the troubleshooting steps I took in this post, but what ultimately ended up working for me was a nano-SIM swap.
If you try all of the above and still haven't managed to fix it, I would suggest a phone swap.
Edit: typo

But if the sim card was the problem, I wouldnt be able to make calls right? I mean, there must be a connection since I can call.
Also, the phone doesn't give me a notification with "No sim card" or something similar..
But then again, weird errors can happen.. I will order a new sim card if the problem persists and I am unable to find a solution

You might be right. My issue was signal, then no signal. I never got a "no SIM card" message, however.
Best of luck!
I am now getting this issue without using Stamina mode. I am currently sat at work with no data, same thing happened yesterday. It worked fine this morning but at some point it has gone and only a reboot will get it back. I am missing important notifications because of this.
It seems to happen when I move around the building and the signal goes weak. The About -> Status page currently shows:
Signal strength: -79 dBm 17 asu
Mobile network type: HSPA
Service state: Voice: In service - Data: In service
Mobile network state: Disconnected
This is so frustrating.
---------- Post added at 12:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:36 PM ----------
Just rebooted, data is back and now I see this in About -> Status:
Signal strength: -75 dBm 20 asu
Mobile network type: HSPA
Service state: Voice: In service - Data: In service
Mobile network state: Connected
Time to seek a refund.
I never got this issue fixed, even after repairing the device using PC Companion so I've sent it back to Clove for a refund. I think Bluetooth may have something to do with it though: I use BT in the car and have a Fitbit connected. I spent a day with BT disabled and the issue did not occur. I then went for a run with BT headphones connected and when I got back I had no mobile data again.
So goodbye Xperia Z3 Compact.
Anyone managed to fix it?
Hi!
I have the same issue. I use BT in my car too, but I think I lose it event without BT sometimes..
Anyone managed to fix it?
Just wanted to pitch in that I have the same problem (Z3 here).
I was going to return the phone but reading that the new lollipop update will arrive next week I think I'll hold out and see if that update won't fix it.

See if Paul Wheeler3's post here works for you , I cant paste the link since I have posted 10 times here... but google with his name, and search for Xperia Z3 Losing Data Connection. should be one of the top hits.

COPIED and PASTED for your ENJOYMENT:
I thought I’d share a quick tweak that applies to most of Sony’s Xperia Android phones. If you’re on the Three network and travel around a fair bit you’ll notice that occasionally you’ll lose the data connection and it won’t always come back until you reboot the phone. Very annoying.
This happens because Three still have some 2G roaming agreements in place for areas they don’t have coverage. That doesn’t include data roaming however and a lot of devices (including the iPhone still) have trouble with this.
The way to fix this is to set the ‘Network Mode’ to ‘4G/WCMA’. Annoyingly you can’t set this in the ‘Mobile Network Settings’ section, you’ll need to go into hidden service menu to get to the setting. From the dialler, type this:
*#*#SERVICE#*#*
'Service' is typed as you would on a T9 predictive text keyboard, so thats one key press per letter.
Once your into the service menu, choose ‘Network Mode’ and then within this menu choose ‘LTE_WCDMA’.
You’ll see the radio stack reboot (so you’ll lose your connection while it does this).
No longer shall you experience the annoying ‘data never comes back’ issue.
It goes without saying that changing this setting is at your own risk.
You should manually set your network to WCDMA/GSM first. Then do as suggested above.
The problem is that the mode will automatically fall back to whatever is set in the UI if you even load the Mobile Networks control (by simply selecting the menu item in settings). If you leave it stock, then going into mobile networks will cause it to "fallback" into the failure mode. But if you manually set it to WCDMA/GSM then going in to Mobile Networks will only cause it to fallback into HSPA+, which isn't bad.
I'm getting this exact same issue but on my galaxy s5 only a reboot will resolve it I wonder if it is also in relation to 2G networks. I am on EE and the just recently sold to BT could be that their infrastructure now includes 2G coverage with no data for some places? Soon as I reboot back on 4G. Looked in settings and annoyingly only auto ones are 2G/3G/4G and 2G/3G there is no 3G/4G auto connection type guess I need to find a Samsung secret menu?

I am on a tmobile z3 and it says N/A no matter which mode I put it on in settings and then going to that secret menu. Please help. I'm on stock android 5.0.2 lollipop. Thanks!
still have the same bug with my Z3 compact, Android 6.0.1 and it is very resistent, even secure mode without 3rd party Apps, new SIM Card and new mobile phone (but with restored Sony Backup) helped. Vodafone germany and Sony Customer Care are idealess.
Last try will bei leaving SD card out and a reset with Sony companion without restoring backup
I have this strange issue that has been with me almost since the beginning. I haven't been able to trace when it happens, but it now seems almost 100% of the time.
I only have WiFi in the house (wifi6, if it matters). If I go out, I only have 4G (I left only 4G and disabled 5G). I have no data until I put the phone into airplane mode and back, or I disable and re-enable mobile data.
Same thing when I go back in the house: no data until I disable and re-enable WiFi.
I've disabled the option for 'always-on mobile data' or similar, it's quite a battery drain if there's no cell signal.
Seems like a very strange bug, I don't have this with any of my other phones.
So you have both WiFi and 4G enabled and they don't switch seamlessly?
Exactly. I always have to restart each one of them, usually by toggling airplane mode. Was wondering if anyone else ran into this issue.
Ok this really is strange. There are 2(!) different toggles to enable data switching between WiFi and 4G, but for me it works flawlessly without them! As soon as I get out of my home WiFi range, 4G kicks in, and when I get in range again, the phone connects to my WiFi...
Hi, i have this problem too but it's not always.
I have a wifi 6 router too.
I also have problems switching from wifi to 4g. Need to toggle airplane mode on/off. 5g deactivated. No wifi 6 here.
I always assumed my vpn is causing problems during the switch to 4g. But hearing others have the same problem i would assume its zenfone problem.
I never had any issues in this area with my ZF8. With the option to have cellular always on I could walk out of my WiFi zone during a video call and no drop or short pause would appear.
With this off the network need a few second to work, and some apps need to be refreshed/restarted to gain connection. Never needed to toggle connection for this to work.
Maybe a reset would be enough or check for updates.
Ah, exactly! It does not necesarily need a network restart, but some apps just lose connection for a while, which can be from a few seconds to >1h. Which is even more weird as the icons are showing full connectivity. I would go out of the house, do stuff, come back later and I would only get the notifications when I'm back inside the house.
Rarely I had the connection drop completely (no signal) when switching, but I haven't noticed this happening since the last update.
