So I went to Samsung store today, tried to find out the camera sensor and my country(Singapore) got a Samsung sensor. Wonder if it's a mix of both Sony and Samsung sensors like they've been for years or all Samsung this time around. Has anyone seen S9s/S9+s with Sony for their country?

Yea.. I Googled it, but no mention on any Sony sensors on S9/S9+. Hmm...
Exynos = Samsung sensor. Snapdragon = Sony sensor. This is a given.
The questions are which models of sensors are they? and whether they are upgraded or 2017 ones?

On my Exynos S8+ it's S5K2L2, while in the case of the S9 Exynos variant, it's SAK2L3. So yea.. it's an upgraded sensor. While front facing camera *seems* to be the same one as one on S8.
All versions of the S9, S9+ should be using the 3-stack ISOCELL Fast 2L3 image sensor with an integrated DRAM to be able to perform the touted Super Slow Mo feature.

If this is the case, I guess in a way, a good thing then. To keep consistency. As I remember Samsung was using either ISOCELL and Sony IMX240 on the S6 regardless of chipset or region and quality were superior on one over the other.

Can someone please tel me what camera sensor Note 8 have? I mean, for Qualcomm and Exynos versions. Are they again Samsung for Exynos and Sony for Qualcomm? I like more the Sony one, for me looks better than Samsung one. You can get this info with Aida64.
I have Samsung sensors on my S8 (Exynos) and Sony on S8 Active, and for me Sony is way better than Samsung one. Also the signal seems better with Qualcomm...

The Qualcomm is Sony, not sure about the other.
For exynos version is SLSI_S5K2L2_FIMC_IS ( a.k.a Samsung made)

Well, Sony is much ponderate on mega sharping the images, more natural colors and look, better quality. On S7 was the same problem. Sony sensor better and more natural than Samsung one. Also Samsung sensor use more agressive "beauty face"...
I have S8 Active and S8 with Exynos and I will never buy again a Samsung Phone with Samsung photo sensor Simply sucks vs Sony one on Qualcomm versions. I will take some comparos and put them online soon to see the differences.

Thanks for the explanation. I have only ever owned Exynos versions of Sammy devices, always loved the way my photos turn out, so I guess I never had much to compare them with. I would be very interested to see real world examples of the difference.
How do we know what sensors are in our devices?
Aida64 is free. Look at "Devices", Front-Facing Camera and you will see SONY_IMX333 (depends on the phone) or SLSI_S5K2L2 etc. wich is Samsung sensor.

Same place, same time, same light etc. But not in all conditions are so different. That's true. Anyway, that beauty effect on the face it's present all the time when the light is not perfect. (on Samsung senzor)

Xynos phones usually use Samsung ICOCELL camera sensor as opposed to Sony. This camera, as much as any one moans about sharpness is better than the Note 8 and on par with the S9+. I have tested and had all of them.
The samsung sensor is usually on par if not slightly better than the Sony to my eye.

Any guesses as to when the google camera will be ported over to the snapdragon 855 S10s? I now the current ports are built on the Snapdragon 845 chipset, curious if it's quick/easy to port over for the 855, or if its going to be a few months.

That's not a deal breaker. You can use the gcam port for the primary lens, and still use the stock camera for everything else. As long as night sight works on the primary lens, you can live with the stock camera aka samsung's jpeg processing for all other lens and compositions

I know that Samsung used dual sourcing again with their phones, and some models out there use Sony sensors,, most probably snapdragon 855 variants. The question is, what sony sensors do they use? Is it the same imx 345 from the s9? My s10 uses the SLSI_SAK2L4 isocell main sensor, opposed to the SLSI_SAK2L3 sensor i had on my note 9. I am asking this because i get very good photos, even compared to the pixel 3 and mate 20 pro but i know many of you are unhappy with the s10 cameras. So, what sony sensor does your s10 have? (Use aida64 and go to devices to find out)

So, on the US variant you have (maybe) the same back camera sensors, but a sony selfie camera. But from what i heard, there are phones with sony main back sensors too. How is your experience with the camera?
BTW, here are the screenshots from my exynos variant.
I have Exynos S10+ and photo quality is noticeably worse than my Note 9 Exynos. Photos come out overexposed(too bright) with inaccurate colors(black looks gray), the sharpness is terrible as well which makes picture look blurry. It can all be fixed by Google's GCam APK camera software, but unfortunately GCam does not fully work on Exynos models, it works fine on Snapdragon model S10s.
I have ISOCell sensors for both front and back camera, just like my Note 9.
with gcam the photos are so much better, full sun light samsung cam app is fine.

Well, i have pretty much the opposite experience with my camera. Made some tests VS my European Note 9, both with scene optimizer ON, and s10 photos are as sharp, but much better dynamic range and colors

In my experience, in bright lights, S10 does capture more vibrant colors than Note9/S9, but when there is low light environment like bar or a room in night time, the sharpness goes haywire and colors look washed out. I can post a couple comparison pics.
Check out this Anandtech review from yesterday, they found the Snapdragon S10 camera images superior to Exynos. Even the DAC for audio 3.5mm jack is screwed up on Exynos. I may just get the stupid US locked Bootloader S10 until Samsung fixes these problems on Exynos.
Link to Anandtech review below, it is all accurate from my experience. The battery issue on Exynos is resolved however and now it meets or beats Snapdragon on battery front.

You speak right of my soul. The post processing is a disaster. Just take a normal picture from, idk, a landscape. When you then go into gallery to view the image, it needs like 2-3 seconds to "optimize" it. After this, the image seems to be good at first sight, but if you just slightly zoom into the photo, you can see how unbelievable blurred and unsharp it is. At least unbelievable for a ~1000€ smartphone. My OnePlus 6 made way better pictures. I'm very dissapointed.

The worst part: when I try to take a photo, they look nice before I shoot, in the preview, but then I check the gallery and there...ITS NOTHING LIKE WHAT I SAW IN THE PREVIEW... The photo becomes blurred and lose details.

So in AIDA64 "SLSI_SAK2L4SX" and "SLSI_SAK2L4_FIMC_IS" are identical sensors from Sony?
Another topic, does your AIDA list the Sensor of the tele camera? Mine does not. (Most likely the "S5K3M3")
I don't know why samsung didn't use gn2 sensor on s21 ultra , but I think xiaomi's mi 11 ultra GN2 gonna crush the s21 ultra's hm3 sensor ..

Xiaomi is essentially beta testers for Samsung's newest sensor tech. Xiaomi got the 108MP HMX and the 64MP GW1 sensor before any Samsung phones. It is a little annoying though since Samsung isn't planning on a Note 21 Ultra this year, so Xiaomi would have the better camera tech until at least the S22 Ultra presumably.

They are planning , but it's a bit delayed ,
Note lineup is something they can't skip even though they introduced spen in s series, but that's optional

And if their focus is gonna be on s series only , then I think they can beat the sd888 with their exynos 2100 this time , because Exynos has that capabilities.
Sd888 was also built by samsung so their own chipset just lacks optimization I think .

What is wrong with you? Keep clam. I said If it is true. Although, they are pretty similar.
I think even GN1 in Vivo x50 pro plus can easily beat HM3 tbh.
Why can't Samsung just use GN series in their flagship and stop ridiculous 108mp gimmick.
Samsung know how to get the best out of its sensor, thats why you won't notice a big different between both phones.
I still wished, that samsung didn't not care for numbers and gave us the newest sensor...
As I said above, our phone is better in terms of photo. Although some of us don't believe it.

Its there in the s21 ultra's 108 mp as well.
It uses focus enhancer mode and switches to ultrawide lens zoomed to 1x to capture
