Hi peeps, I am new here so if you think my post is lame or goes against the standard of the group or rules, please let me know! I have noticed that xiaomi released the redmi note 4 in january, kernel got released at march and so did lineage os for the phone(it's an estimation and random facts from the internet). All i am saying is doesn't the mi max 2 have enough love to get attention from the developers? I know they have so much work and other devices to maintain but all users like myself at least wants to hear something like a word from the respected developers like from lineage or RR that "yes there is a development undergoing". That's all we want to hear, not just unofficial builds being made. :'(

but porting won't be as good as having it on our mi max 2 directly right? Like there is a question of optimization as well considering its a ported functionality. What most of us want is direct love for our baby. All we want is to see the light of hope of development.

im talking about ported project treble, not ported rom. big difference.
there will never be direct project treble support, unless xiaomi decides to include it in their official oreo update for mi max 2.
otherwise, treble functionality can be ported from note 4 (due to similar hardware and system partitions), thus enabling the mi max 2 to run pure aosp roms without the need to backwards engineer or port any oem / vendor specific drivers or firmware parts.
tl:dr - ported project treble is not equivalent to ported rom. it makes direct development of custom roms for mi max 2 way easier!

Does anybody have any words/rumors about possible CM/AOSP development for the Mi Mix? I love my Mi Mix but I'm really not feeling MIUI at all. Would love to run a CM/AOSP rom on this phone instead. Though being exclusively available in China only really kills the development momentum from the get go. But a man can dream, can't he?

I agree. I want an AOSP ROM android 7.1.
You'll have to be patient and wait it out as the devices is new and overpriced if you want it now.
Sounds like CM is in the works:

Edit:
Looks like a typo by AndroidPolice, it's for the Mi MAX (hydrogen), not our phone (lithium).
It's still early, way too early to throw in the towel....

any updates guys?
Is there no way to contribute (monetarily) to help get AOSP?
no kernel sources released by xiaomi, no aosp. it looks like on my previous mi note pro (chinese only device), which took ages to get sources released.
We could get device tree from similar device and build from there but it's gonna be painful and probably we're looking at a half baked product that wouldn't be usable anyway.
In the meantime, we'll wait for the source to be release.
Should be able to pull the blobs from the phone or the build but without the kernel source I'm not sure how to get started. Has anyone seen the kernel source yet?
Xiaomi is usually too lazy to release Kernel sources for devices which don't sell all that much.
They usually release kernel sources for their flagship mass market devices, like the mi5 and also the mid range devices like the Redmi Note and Max as these are officially sold in a few asian markets outside of China.
The low end and the phones mainly intended for the Chinese market are usually left out. Also considering their phones dont support Google officially in the Chinese market, Android version upgrades aren't a priority for them. Majority of their consumers are content with the MIUI upgrages.

Maybe they learn, said this was a concept phone and aren't making many, plenty out there now, and what we're now making a white one, XDA calls the shots, think they don't check this site.
Well, atleast some super moderator in the MIUI forums have confirmed that the Mix is next in line to receive Nougat. So thats there. At the moment, I'm quite happy with the EU ROM. Its bloat-free and has great battery life. I would love to see CM(LineageOS) at one point though.
As much as I hate Apple devices for their closed eco-system, their UI is very polished. I know MIUI aims to look too much like iOS. Apart from the launcher, I dont have problems with MIUI.
And MIUI is one of the better skins on Android. I'll pick MIUI over most other manufacturer skins like Samsung's Touchwiz or LG's UI.

There's no way a device won't get custom ROMs sooner or later it's a developer's dream.
There definitely is a way. If they don't release the kernel source, that's it for anything but modified stock roms.

thats the only custom rom for the mix thus far and they claim that AOSP will be starting soon
In case ya'll didn't know, someone from EpicROM team on MIUI Official Forum mentioned that AOSP development for Mi MIx will start soon.
Any news?
I would also love to know if anyone has any information as a AOSP rom for this phone would be awesome

Project Treble, as you've heard, is an amazing new update structure for Android devices and also can affect the speed and stability of Android development.
OnePlus has decided not to implement the current OnePlus devices with Project Treble, and they haven't given an explanation as to why they decided not to.
Project Treble can help the 3/3T as they are almost out of the OEM support days. If they do implement this, you may be looking at Android P ROMs for your device within days of the release of the AOSP commits.
Stand UP for your device and our responsibility as the community should be to bring support for our device for as long as possible. If OnePlus implements this, our device will be future proof for the aeons to come.
Your vote counts.

Sorry, I'm coming from the 3T forums, and I didn't search here for a mirror thread. I just wanted to spread the news of this petition as wide as possible.
Almost 11K, I don't think it'll be enough. But it seems that OnePlus is thinking about give us treble.
Hi, have been wanting to get the Mi 8 for a while as I prefer it over the Oneplus 6, but I was wondering when would a custom ROM actually come out for this phone? Or any idea on some sort of time span? As I'm not keen on using the MIUI and would rather have like the Pixel Experience or something stock instead with the spec and the camera of the Mi 8.
I think active development is starting after Android P is released.
Android P does have notch compatibly so the os will function normally.
Anyway, give it some time this device is a few weeks old mostly development starts after some months.
BTW I moved from a Oneplus 6 to a Xiaomi Mi 8!

Whats your opinion of them both?
The haptic feedback on the Mi 8 is massively better, and I like the camera on the Mi 8 more and the size.
I had a few ago a note 4 got much fun of it, and I went away from Xiaomi because the lcd quality was horrible.
So since the Mi 8 has a amoled Samsung panel it was a insta buy for me.

well i think mi8 is a nice phone
but wont give up my op6 for it
Waiting till kernel sources will be out for dipper ... thats the only thing that is left to start building
The handset does not appear to have been launched in its Global variant yet. I think this is part of the slow development.
what do you think, there will be some roms like pixel experience or avoc or Aex etc. on our mi 9? I sincerely hope so .....
Due to the low availability right now, i think everyone is just trying to get the hands on this device. Sooner or later there will be custom Rom support I'm really sure.
Eventually it will happen for this phone, the question is just how long it'll take before someone does device tree bringup. There is some development already on the GSI side though as phhusson owns the device.
As soon as we have a stable enough device tree for daily usage i'll build and maintain 2-3 roms depending on what other developers pick.
There will surely be development for the Mi 9 as the previous versions. It might take a while due to the low availability of the device and looks like there are still no developers with Mi 9 who can bring up a device tree. Having a Los dev would be awesome.
I personally would contribute to any fundraiser if we can start and complete it, but the community still look small.
If any of you are interested, I could send in PM a Telegram group to discuss that
Hopefully we get a dev with a transparent edition as well, just to verify things from an actual dev that ROMs and kernels are working on both Cepheus and Alita phones.

The transparent edition is the same, just with more RAM. And it should be China exclusive, way more costier. I don't think it's worth getting that version

Thats what people keep saying, but why have the transparent edition with a different code name then? The situation with the Mi 8 was things didnt work right on the Explorer Edition, and it has a different code name too. People thought things should work fine on both versions of mi 9 because they thought the phones had the same name, unfortunately Xiaomi named the Transparent Edition "Alita" instead of "Cepheus" like the other lower end models.
I have an old mi note 5 pro which I gave to my girlfriend and that phone already has many stable android 10 ROMs, along with havoc and pixel experience, and it didn't even get an official android 10 update.
This phone has official android 10 from xiaomi but there aren't any aosp based ROMs on it. All the major ones have been abandoned and there aren't too many in general anyway. Why is that happening? Is it specifically hard to make ROMs for this phone?

what do you mean by dev support so bad?iff you can question dev like this "quote" (Is it specifically hard to make ROMs for this phone)..why dont you try to make one?dont throw stupid question on this forum..to make a custom rom first you need free time..second need a team to develop 1 rom..third you not getting paid for what you did (yes you can put your donation link in the post but not all user will donate to you..dumn kiddo
Basically stick with MIUI if you want a functional phone with updates for like 2 years. Then you can rely on 3rd party developers. But then again software for your device is not guaranteed. Or better should had bought OnePlus 7/t/pro instead. Xiaomi has a very bad record of updating their device. It's called planned obsolescence. It's better if you learn how to make ROMs if you want to keep your device updated. You can't trust and rely on anyone these days.
Cheaper devices which have lost support tend to get better dev support.
I'd imagine more android 10 roms when the official kernel sources for it are released. If it were never to get Android 10, then devs may see it worthwhile to backport kernels.

Let's not act like the folks at the MI forums and discuss it rationally instead of lashing out at OP.
My guess is that K20 series is rather new series and has lower salse than extremely successful devices like Note 5 pro. So it has smaller dev base and availability of raw materials yet.
Instead of giving cliche answers like "developers have life too", "why don't you make rom yourself".
Why can't we discuss lack of Android 10 roms for our device? OP asked the right question.
As far as I know, we don't have stable device tree for Q. Xiaomi doesn't release device trees. Abhishek(dev of LineageOS 10) has a working device tree but he wants to make it stable and then release the sources. Once he releases that i think then we will get more Q based custom roms.
Yeah It is not worthy changing to custom rom. Better stay on stock atm
Because it's still a rather new phone, atleast the global one. Custom ROMs in general seem to be dying, probably because official ROMs are getting better and better compared to the times when i had my HTC HD2.
I don't know why everyone is so butthurt about this post, I'm legitimately curious why this is happening. I'm not bashing the devs at all, maybe 10 year old children that can't even comprehend a text should stick to their telegram groups.
Thanks to everyone who posted something actually useful, it seems the official device tree hasn't been released it, hopefully xiaomi will take care of this soon.

At the moment there is a bit of inactivity whilst many devs are waiting for android 10 sources to be released by Xiaomi. I'm guessing most devs don't want to waste time working on fixing Pie ROMs when they know everyone will abandon them once stable 10 ROMs arrive.
Give it a month or so and you'll see done movement again.

Good point, I haven't considered that. This phone is very popular and I was really curious why there are so few custom ROMs, maybe we will get more goodies on android 10.

Really don't need this kind of rage, take it easy. I believe op was just asking. Just a curiosity... Despite your concerns about the words he used to start the talk. I believe it is pretty easy to understand he was not demanding anything from the good guys, the devs, or even trying to complaining about it.
Seems that there's no way to have a civilized conversation about it without getting someone any hassle, saying "why don't you develop? Douchebag".... Not first time I saw this. Weird thing indeed...
