Can I unlock the bootloader? - Moto X Q&A

Hello, i have an AT&T xt1058 that isn't compatible with the motorola bootloader unlock method. The phone is on jellybean 4.2.2 WITHOUT the camera update (139.12.54.ghost_att.ATT.en.US / 13.9.0Q2.X-116-X-17-54), i know sunshine might be of help but i'm in no position to spend 25 bucks on the license. Is there a free alternative?

[Q] SIM-unlock of Incredible S

Are there any free ways to get rid of SIM-lock for Incredible S?
If someone can help me, thanks a lot
Currently not, its the same as the rooting process, if we manage to get perm root, we can unlock the sim lock.
So your stuck now on the lock
Hmm, strange. My Incredible S is not SIM-Lock! I can put whatever I want in it
My IS is also sim-lock free, but if its locked, your out of luck until root is here.
i think jtag box can help u
Simlock will depend if you bought a branded or standalone device. While i haven't tried another card.. my device is an Orange IS and i suspect it won't let me use any other sim.
Best thing to do is test.
Mine's sim free version also, but my friends have bought one from service providers and cannot use other sims. Like they said above, you will need to wait for a new root for it, but if you already got a contract for it, then it's ok to hang around for a while right? Just divert your calls for your current sim for now.
u should use xtc clip to unlock your in s

I thought once you debrand and you are S-off it is unlocked?

S-OFF does not always equal SIM/Carrier Unlock. It depends on the method used. The XTC Clip does S-OFF and SIM/Carrier unlock the phone. AlphaRevX does not.
i'm not aware of any software or 'free' sim unlock services
plenty of paid sim unlock services that work well :/
the only way to sim unlock my old IncS is to buy the code (15$) from any website or there is another method ?
thank you.
You could unlock it for free from optus after 6 months of purchasing it...
Click thanks if I helped you out!

[Nub Q] Unlocked Bootloader

For HTC phones I've always noticed that they release the dev. edition which comes with an unlocked bootloader and is therefor rootable. Then it must be true that the regular release comes with a locked bootloader, is there generally a fast update where someone finds a way to unlock it or is the best bet to just buy a dev edition?

In the US unlocking the bootloader from a phone you get from at&t etc. is not completely legal: .. that being the reason why they sell the htc one dev version there!
You can unlock the phone via htcdev though It's simple and officially from htc :victory:

WRONG. Please do not spread incorrect information.
Unlocking a bootloader on ANY DEVICE OR CARRIER in the USA is 100% LEGAL.

I remember reading somewhere that the HTC One X+ was given extra restrictions by AT&T so it was harder to unlock. Can you have a bootloader sent to a website/company to have it unlocked for a small fee?

No because if HTC dev is'nt avaliable to unlock bootloader than it's uasally xda folks that crack the bootloader and most xda folks share the unlock, plus if only some small company can crack the bootloader for a fee, the development would'nt be very good

There's no financial cost to unlock your boot loader, its free.

Thanks for your reply.
I was going off a FAQ in the General section
Please note, In order to flash any custom Recoveries, you need to have unlocked Bootloader. Barring the open Bounty, the only viable option right now is to buy an unlock code from Motorola.

Motorola does not charge you for the boot loader unlocking code, the only cost is your warranty if you do not have a developer edition.

You can only unlock on VZW and AT&T if you get the developer edition, and the cost is $50 more than the standard device.

So if you just get the regular one, you are stuck with the stock ROM?
Also, is it possible to get the VZW dev edition? I just went through the whole Moto Maker process and didn't see anything about developer edition.

Developer editions aren't eligible for MotoMaker.
The unlock process it free, but as mentioned, it is not currently possible to unlock a non dev Verizon or Att model and the Dev models are not available through Moto Maker. If you're looking at another carrier then VZW or ATT you can unlock from what I read, but since theyre not DEV editions you lose your warranty.

I'm pretty sure they're referring to the SIM carrier lock. Correct me if I'm wrong folks.
I have a Verizon Dev edition with my boot loader unlocked. And I did not have to pay for a unlock key.

The Australian version is XT1092 (the same as EU I think). I think you can unlock the bootloader and root it.
Just follow this guide, it will help you further. :good:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/general/guide-xt1097-to-xt1095-nextel-t2972693
Just to confirm for anyone else who is reading this thread and wondering,
the Australian Motox 2014 can be bootloader unlocked using the Motorola website.
I didn't end up getting one, I got a nexus 6, however my friend got a Moto X 2014 from The Good Guys,
and I went through the procedure on their phone and it will unlock.
Thanks to X96 for your advice in this thread too.

XT1060 Bootloader unlock

Hi just wondering if i buy this phone http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Blac...41?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item280344d421
Will i be able to unlock the bootloader? assuming it's not verizon if coming from hong kong or would i be wrong? cheers
I'm guessing the "unlocked" in the title means SIM unlocked. If it isn't a developer edition, your only chance to unlock the bootloader is Sunshine.

Would this still hold true given that this is coming from Asia? or are all xt1060s locked aside from the dev model?
As far as I'm aware, yes.

Do you mean that Sunshine might eventually work to unlock the bootloader on XT1060s? or is it working right now?
(I know I can check by just running the app on the phone, but I don't own the phone yet either, was considering buying one)
EDIT: just did a little more research, seems like sunshine will work for XT1060s if it hasn't been upgraded to 4.4.4 . If anyone knows otherwise, please correct me.

I'm not aware of the XT1060 being sold by any other carriers that Verizon in the USA. All Verizon XT1060's are SIM Unlocked (aka carrier unlocked) due to FCC 700mhz C-Block rules.
Moto only gave out the Bootloader unlock code for the Developer Edition XT1060. Sunshine will work so long as the phone is on 4.4.2 and has NEVER been flashed with 4.4.4 or higher.

It was either just lucky, or you used the China Middle Seller/Middle man that was available long ago and not Moto's web site.
