Fairly Intense Camera problems

Hey Guys,
I'm running the most recent firmware and have started to notice some fairly serious problems with white balance on my camera.. I honestly don't use it that much, but i hadn't noticed anything this bad. The problem is consistent whether I'm using Auto mode or semi auto and i've noticed that adjusting some of the settings makes it less intense but it's still present either way.
This first photo here was taken during a sunset the colour on the left is almost okay, the colour on the right is washed out and grey

This photo here was outside during day: Note the sunlight actually flaring into the picture, this happens anywhere there is a lot of light next to solids:

Any suggestions? Should i try to return this under.... warranty, actually are these things still even under warranty??

Warranty depends on the country - if you can, it's better to get a replacement rather than attempt to fix yourself.

Hey.... Thanks mate, i am not sure if it is something I can fix myself, or whether it's even hardware related, hopefully someone else see's this thread who can give me some insight into whether this is just bad BIONZ related or it's a hardware problem.

Anyone got any idea?

Thanks for the reply mate... Unfortunately it happens anywhere there is a significant amount of daylight, with flash disabled same results unfortunately... I've noticed I get lines through the photos on macro shots if there is insufficient lighting too...
Would love to know whether this is a standard Z1 issue or a latest firmware issue or my camera is screwed? Also whether any of the custom roms address this?

The first image makes me think you might have some problem with your lens. Did you look at it under a strong light and check for visible damage like scratches?

That doesn't look software related, something's up with the lens or the glass that protects the lens. Is it smudged or scratched or anything?

nah it's definitely clean, routinely clean it... so looks like it's physically hardware related then. I had some water into this thing once, which they fixed by replacing the casing and cleaning... Is there anything which the water could have wrecked that they should have replaced perhaps?

Ahh water damage, they just cleaned it and replaced the case? I'm guessing the camera got affected as well. Usually with lenses if it comes in contact with any moisture it might get screwed up. Maybe they should've replaced the camera :/
How much water damage was there? Like, did a lot of water get in your device?

I don't think it was a heap, was enough to stop the thing booting, intermittently so I guess a bit... Might see if i can get it fixed under warranty then, given that my last warranty fix didn't address this current problem. Don't like my chances though, might be time to get a z3...

[Q] Light Leakage Around Bezel?

So last night I noticed that there appears to be a thin line of light coming up from above both the right and left bezel. Can anyone else reproduce this? It's most noticeable in a dark environment with the screen brightness relatively high.
Red line indicates where the light leakage comes from.

Nope, your phone should not do that. It appears your screen inst adhering as it should. If I were you I would take it back and get a new one if you're in your 2 week grace period.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I'm not. But I've reached out to Samsung and they acknowledged the defect. Hopefully they'll send me a like-new replacement.

So in the end I did end up getting a replacement because of this. Turns out I'd totally regret it because this is actually normal behavior.
The replacements I got had far worse issues such as yellowing screen, overheating, and rotation issues. And on top of that all of them still had the light bezel bleed. Ugh.

light bleed

Are you guys experiencing light bleed from the edges of your Note 8 screen. I just got my Tmobile Note 8 yesterday.

I was hoping to god this wasn't gonna happen again.. I hated this so much with the Note 7 -_-
It isn't bad at all when the brightness is lowered, but looks absolutely disgusting when using the phone for GPS at night.
Last thing I want is for a $1500 phone to look cheap.
Apparently this is "natural" because of the glass and how it reflects light, BUT... all they had to do was wrap the black around it to block that reflective exit alone the edges.. But they didnt.
I may just take my note 8 back over this. I couldn't stand this on my note 7
OP, you should max the brightness, show a white image, and put a credit card on top of the screen and then take a picture.

Wow! I probably would have never noticed, but I do now. Thanks! I have a VZW but it doesn't seem near as bad as yours. Luckily my case covers it so I won't OCD over it, like the bubble I have in the bottom of my screen protector, going back to geek squad tomorrow. On my s7 edge I made them change it out 3 times. :angel:

You probably aren't noticing it because it takes a relatively bright image closer to the edge for it to appear.
View a white image with maxed brightness while covering the majority of the screen, and you will literally see a white ring around the edge of the phone.
Super damn annoying -_-

After reading this post, I immediately took it out of the case, cranked the brightness up, turned the lights off, opened a web page, seen it! Aghhhh! On mine, it seems worst on the right side. Put it back in the case, took a shot, and now trying to forget it was ever there or my eyes will look for it every time, because it IS ANNOYING now that I KNOW it's there!

If it makes you feel better, its only noticeable when the brightness is at a decent level. Plus using a case will get rid of it entirely.
I'll probably whip out the microscope and apply a fine line of black paint along the edge of the glass lol.

I wonder when they're going to get rid of light bleed. I've literally had it on every device with a screen that I've ever owned.
I thought that OLED devices weren't backlit. Blah blah blah individual pixels lit. Isn't that supposed to be a selling point of OLED screens? Where does the light bleed come from?

It happens because the glass is still thick enough to allow light to travel along the inside and exit throughout the edges.
This is such an easy fix too, which is why I don't understand why this hasn't been fixed. All they have to do is literally wrap the glass around the edges with the same material they're using the the top and sides anyway..

Ahh, ok. Makes sense. Thanks for the explanation. It's different than the standard LCD light bleed then.
Hopefully I won't notice it much while it's in a case.

Zero light bleed on mine.

A blast from the past. Identical thread in the Note 7 and nearly all other forums concerning the 'edge screen design'.
It is not technically "Light bleed" That term is reserved for a phenomena (problem-fault) often common with IPS panels.
What you are seeing is......how can one write.......light escaping NOT into the screen as light bleed but light escaping from the screen.....There is a gap between the body and where the display ends, this tiny tiny tiny space, in certain situations, can indeed shine light OUT but not into the screen and there is a difference but both can be annoying IF we become OCD about it. I guess this situation is part of the edge experience? As suggested by peers, a case will stop such micro reflections or light escaping.

So this is a known issue with Galaxy phones?
I've never experienced it with the Note 7 or currently with the Galaxy S8 plus. Is this enough to get a replacement?

Wow, this thread is like dejavu, I had to really look for it with max brightness in a dark room to find it on both my note 7's. I didn't think it was a big deal but some did. If I get the note 8 I will look for it.

It sounds like you might have to go through more than one replacement to get one that doesn't do it.
Just for fun, I always follow the release of the new iPhone on Macrumors each year, and there's always a huge light bleed thread. I know (now) that this is something completely different than what happens with these phones.. People over there go through numerous replacements to try and get a perfect screen. Many never get one.
I will have my phone in a case from day one, so I guess that I won't see this.

Mine's good... no light bleed at all.

I am getting no light bleed at all. Turned my screen all the way up on a white screen and no light bleed.

I'm not seeing any either even with the brightness turned all the way up and various bright pictures. There's a slight change in brightness but that's to be expected with the curve but nothing like the pictures.

at least one guy on another forum has reported his light bleed and is getting a replacement in exchange.

So maybe some were built with more of a "gap" there than others.
The way my luck with electronic devices works, I'll definitely have it. Glad that it won't be noticeable when it's in a case. I won't even look for it, because then I'll know it's there for sure and it will bug me.

Note 9 Lightbleed issues!

So I upgraded from my Note8 and found that the 9 has some pretty bad light bleeding. It's symmetrical on both left and right, at the bottom and top part of the screen edges.
Not sure if I wanna get a replacement but you can even see it in broad daylight if you angle it correctly. It's quite annoying tbh.
Aside from that I love the phone.
Anyone had such issues yet?

Go return it and ask for a new one. My Note 9 has no lightbleed at all

I have a minimalistic case on it but that doesn't hide it. I don't like covering the sides that much, makes the curved design obsolete.

Wow. Another person that had to start his own thread when there are others on same issue here.

Unfortunately, Samsung is not accepting that the screen is defective.
My N9 was two times in service, I spoke with Samsung's support via email and phone, still nothing.
"That is the feature of curved display" they say.
Thats ****talk, I say.
When my phone arrive again, I will go directly to the import company to complain there.

I have a bit of it, one of the first-batch Exynos 128/6 units I guess. Not a huge deal for me, my Xperia Z5 came back from repair with a larger gap, the repairman said he couldn't get it to fit without damaging the panel as the frame was warped... lol
but I do wonder how water-resistant it will be...

Oh, wow. I also have it on my N9. Looks exactly the same as on my N8. But, like most of us, I put a case on my phone. I never rock it without a case. Just strange that this continues to be an issue. Makes the phone look a bit defective. Some cosmetic issues like this can do that. Make it look a bit cheap.

light bleeding through

Has anyone else had the problem of the light bleeding through on certain colors? On the left side of mine, there's a white-ish hue coming through. I chatted with LG to see if it's a known issue. They told me to reset the device. Or send it in for repair.

Does it affect viewing content? If not it's technically not worth it, unless ur super picky

Sometimes it does. When anything dark except black is on the screen..it's shows. Kind of annoying too.

Did you ever find a resolution? I'm on my second v40 with the same issue. After a while, the screen kept flashing when I would put it to sleep. I had to swap the phone out.

No. I just let it go. Figure I'll let it go to it burns out. It seems to be getting worse tho. Thought about sending it in

Never had this problem. You probably have a Wrong batch. I have the tmo version.

The first one I got the week the phone came out. This one I got in December. Both from T-Mobile.
The left side of my screen by the volume buttons is green and it's driving me nuts.

I haven’t used a v40 yet, but I did see multiple v30 devices with this issue. For the v30 at least you could look closely at it and the light is bleeding through the gap between the “screen” and the side frame of the phone. I say “screen” because the issue is the bezel doesn’t properly cover the gap between the screen and the body which causes the light bleeding.
You obviously can’t fix this without getting a new phone. However, I would take a guess and say eventually more and more phones will get this issue over time. Because as the phones age glue or whatever else holds the screen to the body will wear and possibly develop this gap. Another problem is bending. Even the slightest little bend will cause a problem, even without other physical damage.

Having same issue on my att v40, once you see it it's hard to not notice it, thinking about sending it to LG for replacement.

Now that it's been mentioned I looked but luckily nothing showing up on mine

Here is my screen. What do you guys think? Hard to see those in everyday use, but def can see them here and there. To test it I suggest you put uniform grey/dark grey color image on your screen and then you'll see it. In my case basically whole right side is and issue plus top part around the notch. Thinking about sending it to LG for replacement.

Can you guys sound off on this with some pics if possible, to see how bad my case actually is?

Yeah, take another picture in a dark environment. I'll take some photos of mine later. I have few issues on mine also. But only visible on very low brightness and brown/grey colors. Also one very tiny almost invisible to see stuck/dead pixel.

That's not dark at all, im talking in a dark pitch black room.
Take a picture with full brightness On and low brightness On, with the light in the room off preferable at night time.

In pitch dark it's only more visible. Pics I took show the issue pretty clear anyway.

You basically lost the lottery panel. I would exchange if i were you and it bothers you. Mine is pretty even all around except for when on low or mid brightness and on grey/brown colors.
I'll show you what mine looks like later tonight.

I don't get your argument man. If yours is pretty even you don't have an issue. I clearly do.

Re read what I said. To some degree it is not completely even. There is no such thing as perfect OLED panel, no panel is the same. Mine has it's issues, alot of it can be subjective. Your's is on the pretty bad scale in my humble opinion and it would be worth the hassle of going thru warranty repair involving sending it in, praying, and waiting a couple weeks without a device. I feel like I am repeating myself at this point, if you still want me to upload the photos it's fine. Sorry if i have a harsh tone, I have the flu.
