Deleted stock Message.apk help needed to restore it. - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

> Hello mods & xda members.
> My device is Samsung note 5 SM-N920G
> I wanted to try a new version of message app from apkmirrors & usually played around with other apps with no issues except Message app till today. So copied the new apk to PRIV-APP, MESSAGE COMMON FOLDER but when I restated my device I'm missing the message app itself & when I checked in the System, priv app folder I can see the app but when I check the status of app it says INSTALLED; NULL(0) & can't install either... As it conflicts with the existing app so clearly older version app framework has residues & non compatible for newer version & due to this I'm not able to get back to stock message app.?
>Fixes i tried are to restore the stock through Odin but yet not able to fix the issue. So wiped system & cache through twrp & again reflashed stock through Odin yet same issues.
Checked everywhere on net & not able to find any fix.
I do know how to fix it but currently I would like to skip backing huge amounts of data to my pc.
I can use other messaging app & all messages are there but default messaging app is missing.
>I think I might have corrupt framework due to beta message app...?
Can any provide me a zip file if message app has to reinstalled through some other framework or api please help...!
Or suggest any fix... Please you are all welcome...!
Good morning to all of you.

Galaxy apps never lists the Message app & I have the original default apk extracted & restored but somehow it's not working. So even have Flashed Stock firmware still no go but I know I have to wipe everything that will work but any mods who are having experience in making ROMs definitely know where the solution lies.
My storage is almost full & backing up definitely seems an difficult task at the moment as I'm running around with other things.
I'm no dumb to take your time mods so please help.

So While Replacing New Messaging App May Be For Eg.S9 Messaging App With Blue Icon Did You Replce It In priv-app/Messaging_SEP81 Or MessagingCommon Folder By Renaming The Target Apk With The Same Name? As Per My View This Issue Looks To Be Complicated..Flashing The Latest Stock Build Should Solve The Issue Itself But Unfortunately It Didn't So You Can Either Try To Replace Another Version Of Apk According To API Level On ApkMirror Or Try To Figure Out If App Shows In Settings/apps/show system app/clear data n cache if present there OR Try To Flash Any Custom Rom For Your Device And See If It Works On Custom Flawlessly Instead Of Stock

Hear is what I did, back up my existing data & wiping it in twrp gets back default app but again after restoring data gets me the same issue so gonna modify the backed up data & see where it goes.
I had gone almost full on storage so was trying to simple avoid the time to back up & restore but anyways it's the only Ultimatum now. As all mods prefer to remain in silent-no offense.
I have already fixed it but I would like to know if there are any who could help it out to resolve the issue in simplest manner. I have been working on it. May be it works or may be it doesn't to modify backed up data bcoz I definitely know the issue is in data but not system. So if someone gets into same issue as I'm then I just something left out for them to get their issue resolved by this post that's all. Cheers to all.
Thank you for your reply.

[Q] Sending Blank emails when replying

I upgraded to the leaked OS 2.2 Froyo and now I am getting the below issue when I reply to emails. Doesn't happen to EVERY email but several to cause me issues at work.
I am using Exchange only.
I reply to an email and it is recieved but all text I typed is missing and it actually looks as if I forwarded the email back to the sender.
I saw on another forum some other were experiencing this issue but none had a clue how to resolve it.
Anyone know how to fix this? Others seeing this?
Any help would be appreciated!!
???
Is no one else having this issue? Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve it? Do I need to wipe the deivce?
I've had this issue as well when using my exchange.

I had the same issue with email after cognition2.2BETA5.5. It seems that designgears had installed the AOSP email app but removed it in later versions due to too many complaints. I find that the AOSP app is much better then then TW Email apk. I performed the steps below to install the AOSP Email.apk. Replies work everytime without issue.
1.) Get the Email AOSP app from a different rom or make a request and I will happily provide a link to download the apk.
2.) Connect your phone to the computer and move the Email.apk to the root of your sdcard.
3.) Backup your current Email.apk with Titanium or manually copy it to another location on your phone.
NOTE: You may need to backup your phone settings so you can restore your launcher after clearing cache in the final step to avoid having to replace all of your home screen icons.
4.) Using Root Explorer or Astro, copy the Email.apk copied to your sdcard into the folder /system/app/ to replace the current app.
5.) Return to the home screen. At this point you should no longer see an email icon on your dock.
6.) Go to Applications->Settings->Applications->Manage Applications
7.) Clear the cache on the TWLauncher Application.
8.) Return to the home screen and you should now see the email icon has returned to the dock.
9.) Restore TWLauncher settings with Titanium to restore home screen icons that were removed in the cache.
Please let me know if you need the email.apk from cognition2.2beta5.5
Aosp email.API link request
Is there a copy of the email.API that doesn't have the blank reply issue yet has all the features of cognition latest release?
I have attached a working Email apk to this post. Down load it and follow the steps in the post above to resolve the blank email reply issue. Let me know if you have any issues.
I followed the instructions, however, I did not have a backup of twlauncher, so now I don't have an email icon on my home bar
So put the icon back on your launch bar. It is configurable. (doing this from memory, so i may miss a step). Go to your list of apps -> menu -> edit and you can configure 3 of the 4 icons on the touchwiz launcer (you can't get rid of the apps shortcut).

Alright, hopefully you all are still willing to help somebody else out on this issue, as I am in the same boat as gibgib3. I have followed the steps above using the attached email.apk from f13nd0.
The issue I get is that launching email cause an immediate crash of the application, as well as attempting to add a new "Corporate" email account.
I am not an Android development power user myself, although I've used adb in the past sparingly. I really just am clinging to the leaked Froyo build from October, and just want working email (TouchDown is crazy slow and expensive) until Samsung finally pushes out an official Froyo build.
Any ideas here?

That is the "nuclear option" that I'd like to avoid. While I have everything backed up with titanium, I already am planning to flash back to stock when the official update comes out, so I'm looking to minimize the necessity to flash a ROM again.
I'm hoping that there is some "tried and true" way to swap out my email.apk with a working version, as the previous steps just result in a "Force Close" whenever I try and run it.
So the solution here, for anybody having this issue, is to remove the existing email.odex file from the /system/app directory, which was associated with the original Samsung email app.
All systems go here.
How do you remove the email.odex file? As it is in the system folder, the file permission is ready only and I cannot delete it. Is there a util in the market that you can download to change file permissions?
Root Explorer did the trick for me.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Does the phone needs to be rooted (my phone has the leaked froyo but do not think it is rooted) for the root explorer to be able to change the permission?
I download other free utils that has access to the file but cannot change the permission in order to delete it.
Yes, it does.

Rooting is the key to doing all "magic" stuff like this. What good is a wizard (user) without his magic wand (root access) to work on any magic (his captivate)?

Okay, I finally learn how to root the phone and was finally able to remove the existing email.odex file. Now I don't have the email icon anymore. I must assume you have replaced this email.odex file as well as the apk file??? I tried clearing the cache and everything on the twlauncher and it's a no go.

CyanogenMod 7 for Captivate Q&A

CyanogenMod 7 (w/ Gingerbread 2.3.4) for Galaxy S
The only rule of CyanogenMod: you don't ask for ETAs. You install, your warranty is void.
Warning : Not for new users, flash this build only if you know what you are doing !!!
INSTRUCTIONS:
INSTRUCTIONS:
Latest version: http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=captivatemtd
Check the md5sum if you want to be sure that the download worked (different OSes have different programs that do md5, on ubuntu it is md5sum that you run against the zip you download and compare to the md5sum number shown on the download website). ROMManager does this automatically for ROMs you download via ROMManager.
- First time flashing CM 7 to your Captivate (or coming from another ROM)?
Easy way:
Start with a rooted Eclair/Froyo running Eclair/Froyo Bootloaders (do not ask us how to do this).
Install ROMManager Premium.
Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. Pick Captivate (MTD) (ignore the warning about not having an official, pick ClockworkMod 2.x).
Make sure you can reboot into ClockworkMod recovery from ROMManager. Reboot and get back into ROMManager Premium.
Choose download ROMs.
Pick the CyanogenMod Nightlies.
Check the Google Apps addon.
Check Backup current ROM!
Check wipe data, cache, dalvik cache.
Let ROMManager finish the installation.
Harder way:
Make sure you're running a Eclair/Froyo Firmware (2.1 or 2.2) and Eclair/Froyo Bootloaders!
Root your device and install ClockworkMod Recovery.
Do a Nandroid backup!
WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition)
Install the ROM from internal sdcard using ClockworkMod Recovery
Optionally install the Google Addon (through ROMManager is easiest)
- Upgrading from earlier CM7?
ROM Manager method:
Install ROMManager Premium.
Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. Pick Captivate (MTD) (ignore the warning about not having an official, pick ClockworkMod 3.x).
Choose Download ROMs.
Pick the CyanogenMod Nightlies.
Check the Google Apps addon.
Check Backup current ROM!
Check wipe cache, dalvik cache.
Let ROMManager finish the installation.
Clockwork Mod method:
Download and push the ROM zip file to the sdcard.
Reboot into recovery.
Do a Nandroid Backup!
Install the ROM zip from sdcard (your Google apps will be backed up automatically)
There are no Google Apps bundled with CM ROMs, because Google asked Cyanogen to remove copyrighted apps. After flashing the rom, don't forget to flash Google Addon package if you want it. ROM Manager will allow you to flash it if you just go into it and after flashing the ClockworkMod recovery for MTD devices, choose Download ROMs, and pick Google Apps.
FAQ (Please Read!!)
Q: I don't have working three button recovery, is there anything I can do?
A: There is a CWM flashable zip that should be able to fix this at 3 Button Fix. That program is not part of CyanogenMod and we do not support it.
Q: Can I flash over a previous version of CM7?
A: If updating from an already CM7 running SGS phone, just flash the latest update zip file as it contains all the fixes from previous updates.
Q: I just installed and I don't see the Marketplace, cannot see GMail, cannot sync Contacts.
Q: I just installed and I don't see any Google Apps.
A: You need to install the Google apps. They are available in ROMManager. ROMManager also asks you if you want to install the Google Apps addon when you install via ROMManager.
Q: I restored from Titanium Backup but my applications are not working
A: Do not restore system data, only restore application+user data. CM7 uses new system data and if you restore on top of it, things will not work.
Q: My battery life is simply awful, any tips?
A: Wi-Fi, bluetooth, and GPS are major battery killers. Wi-Fi and bluetooth are particularly hungry, so turn them off when you don't need them.
Q: The phone booted but I'm not getting any signal, what gives?
Q: My phone takes a few minutes to establish a 3g signal after I turn it on, what gives?
A: Known issue with polling when staring up the network. Put the phone to sleep by pressing the power button and waking it up a few times and it will usually come up with a signal.
Q: I lost my SMSC information, how to I get it back?
A: Follow these steps to restore.
Q: When will Voodoo sound/color/sharpness be integrated?
A: Maybe some parts will be integrated someday, but there some UNSUPPORTED kernels available on the threads that do this already. Please direct any issues related to these to the appropriate developers, not us.
Q: Your notification toggles are different than mine, how can I change them?
A: Go into Settings, CyanogenMod Settings, Interface, Notification power widget, Widget buttons
Q: I really miss the accurate battery mods, can I flash these?
A: No, but you can go into Settings, CyanogenMod Settings, Interface, Status bar tweaks, "Battery percentage"
Q: Where can I get themes for this?
A: A quick search for "theme engine" on the market will produce a number of results, but there are some in the general Android Themes section
Q: Can I use the video player/music player/contacts/phone/launcher from a Samsung ROM?
A: No, anything hooking into Samsung's framework will not work on this ROM, there are plenty of alternatives in the market.
Q: Where can I get the Nexus S drivers?
A: Download and install the Android SDK here then download "Google USB Driver package, revision 4"
Once downloaded, right click on "Computer", "Manage", "Device Manager", "Nexus S", "Update Driver Software", and point it to wherever you isntalled the SDK
Q: How do I go back to a Samsung stock ROM?
A: The easiest way is to go back to stock using Odin and flashing a full firmware (including PIT file) with repartition checked (Odin One-Click does this by default on Captivate)
Q: Can I use ROM Manager to install or back up this ROM?
A: Yes.
Q: Why do I not see the nightlies in ROM Manager?
A: Nightly builds are only visible in the premium version of ROM Manager. Koush, the developer of ROM Manager is a key reason behind Galaxy S phones having CM7. You can buy it to show your support.
Q: The phone turns on whenever I plug it in, is there any way to prevent this?
A: This is also related to the kernel and for now is an annoying side effect we have to put up with.
Q: Why can't I play .avi or .mkv files? They worked fine with Samsung's ROM.
A: Due to codec licensing issues, this can't be provided out of the box. Several apps from the marketplace should be able to replicate this feature (such as RockPlayer)
Q: How do I flash a different modem? The one included doesn't work well with my phone.
A: Other modems are available here
Please do not attempt to flash ones from other threads as they use a different method of installing not compatible with our ROM.
Q: Can I use another kernel like Speedmod with this?
A: Yes, but you have to make sure it is compatible. We do not support any kernels except the one we install.
Q: GTalk doesn't work with FFC?
A: We can either have a fully fixed camera without gtalk video chat support (samsung libcamera)
or we can have a buggy camera with gtalk video chat support (opensource libcamera). We went with the fully working camera without GTalk FFC support. Once we have updated libs from Samsung for camera, it'll work.
Q: I encountered a bug, how do I find out if it's known and where can I report it?
A: You can look through the issue tracker here. If you do not see your issue, please report it. If someone else has it, please star it (but please do not file "Me too!" reports). Try to also attach the logcat output and last_kmsg to the bug report by:
Code:
desktop$ adb logcat > logcat.txt
desktop$ adb shell
# cat /proc/last_kmsg > /sdcard/last_kmsg (only if you had crash/reboot)
# dmesg > /sdcard/dmesg.txt
# exit
desktop$ adb pull /sdcard/last_kmsg .
desktop$ adb pull /sdcard/dmesg.txt .
Attach the logcat.txt and last_kmsg files to the bug report. Of course, you need to have the android SDK installed to do this.
Thread is now stuck. I was gonna do one for it but was not sure on the CM teams want for it.
Yay dedicated Q & A. Anyways on to the questions.
In the second screenshot the lock toggle looks half transparent as if you can slide it. But mine just squish together, just curious if it is supposed to be like that.
Also, in those notification settings toggles when my icons are lit up white when on the white is not a pure white. It looks like crinkled paper, is that also designed this way? Thanks guys!
EDIT: Sorry but I also wanted to know about the non smooth gradients. I noticed in your screenshots they are smooth and mine are choppy bars of differing colors.
EDIT2: Ok I suppose my questions go unanswered

We're (well, really some of our users who are willing to help out) good with answering questions - the CM7 for Galaxy S series of phones (mostly Galaxy S, Vibrant and Captivate) is close, and getting closer though it will never be simple to install due to the new kernel and file system. It's the repeating of the same questions multiple tens of times that is bothersome and we will start ignoring.
I looked in cm7 settings-sound and don't see a way to raise system sound. Not a big deal just curious.
You're looking for Settings -> Sound -> Volume.
I may be blind for not noticing but is it possible to set pictures to be stored in the external SD somewhere in the camera settings? I looked all over and I can't find such an option

Unfortunately, it seems the CM/AOSP camera defaults to storing them on the first SD card (whichever that is) without a way to redirect to external. Though right now, there isn't much use to putting them on external as that can't be accessed directly from a computer through the current ROM. I suggest investing in a decent explorer application (like Root Explorer) and bulk moving the files to /mnt/emmc
I have 2 questions:
1) Do nandroid backups work?
2) I've tried moving swype and a few other apps to system/app but they fc. Is there something else I need to do?
Nandroid backups appear to work for me.
Swype beta works, download the installer and install Swype through it and you should be fine.

For swype I think you also need the .so file that's in the system/lib folder. But I have been too lazy to put swype in so I am not exactly sure.

check to see how much space you're using in /datadata with "adb shell df" or root explorer
I'll just try a complete Master Clear and everything with Odin......bye bye app backups
Also, when i reboot, its almost as if the phone resets or something cuz i get the Android robot startup screen that takes me through the process of signing into an account, backing up data, etc....
Maybe my google apps file was bad, i'll go re-download that

For the choppy bars, it's just the AOMLED display. It doesn't handle gradients well and the screenshots aren't of the actualy screen but what it is suppose to display.

***Please Help!!*** $40US Cash Reward!!

Ok this is my second attempt to get an answer for the issues I'm experiencing.
Hopefully someone out there knows whats up and can give me a real solution.
I will pay the person $40US via PayPal if you can help me solve the issues listed below.
Here we go...
I can flash any rom or kernal successfully, however once booted I can not restore TIBU or install anything from market. When I click ok on download at market is does nothing, just allows me to repeatedly click on download icon. But never begins download. The second issue is if I try to restore backups using TIBU, they never install, just sit there as if they are installing, but never do. Also if I try to install any apps sitting on my ext-sd, they do the same as TIBU, just sit there showing they are installing, but never do.
Having said all that! If I flash to stock JF6, everything works fine, no issues whatsoever.
Now I have repeated this process at least a dozen times with no changes. I have flashed just about every custom rom with the exact same results. But again, flashing back to stock, zero issues.
Please do not suggest I run market fix, as this does not explain my other issues with TIBU or installing apps from ext-sd.
Others have suggested using android id changer after I have installed custom rom, the issue there is I can never install it from market after I have flashed custom rom because of the above issues.
Please help, this is driving me crazy and thanks in advance to those that know what's going on and can direct me to a solution.
NOTE: Yes I do a Master Clear & Clean Dalvik cache after every flash !! After flashing to stock, I can root and modify settings file under dbdata to allow third party apps with no issues. All issues are directly related to custom roms only!

Maybe an obvious question: Have you tried clearing the data and cache for the market.

I had a similar problem (apps would download and fail to install no matter how many times I downloaded) I also only had my problem with custom ROMs.

Please try the below steps as they are so it would be easy to debug.
1. Backup ur data from internal SD to PC
2. Use one click to come to stock (don't root or install any stuff here, except enabling USB debugging)
3. Connect to computer, and mount drives
4. Quick format the internal SD on windows (if u r on windows; telling this cos I use windows)
5. Copy the ROM in my signature (dilligaf's 7.x) onto ur SD card
6. Reboot into recovery and install the ROM (do not use TiBu or do anything else at this point)
7. Go to settings and add ur market linked gmail account
Try connecting to market now n see if that works.

"Insufficient Storage Available" error message?

I have a Bionic on 4.0.4 ICS and am running CM10 (I think, I don't remember and I just got my computer back from Geek Squad and they deleted my entire 'ROOT' folder... thanks Best Buy). Anyway, I keep running into a problem when trying to download new apps from the Play Store or updating existing apps, I get a notice saying "Insufficient Storage Space) and thus cannot install the app or update. When I go look at the storage on my phone, it shows that I have 2.97GB available, so I'm failing to see where there isn't enough room to download a 21MB update. Anyone know what is going on here? I've tried wiping Cache and Dalvik and it doesn't seem to do anything for this issue, if that matters.
Also, I just ran into this right after I posted this, but I downloaded a cycling app called Strava, and it downloaded and installed successfully (even when other apps wouldn't) but when I try to launch the app, I get a notification saying, "Your device does not seem to support Google Play Services." WTF? I just downloaded this app FROM the Play Store! WTF is the story here?!

There is a file called "lost.dir" takes up a lot of space and doesn't do anything .try deleting that and see if that helps

If you've used lucky patcher, this problem will arise... try deleting odex file of the application you are trying to update... in root / data / app and you are done..

Luckily, I found a fix for this problem in lucky patcher. Lucky patcher is actually a third party app to crack/patch paid Google play apps.
So here’s how you can fix this error. Your device must be rooted to be able to use lucky patcher.

I have looked everywhere for a fix, tried just about everything. I got rid of lucky patcher before I seen this, now I can't even download it again without it saying the error message. Any thoughts? I reeeally don't wanna do a factory reset and re download all my apps and have it not work

Thank you so my friend

[Q] Insufficient Storage Available.

Okay so before I get told to look at other threads I have, Multiple times and I have tried using the Lucky Patcher but I can't find the 'remove fixes and backups.' option anywhere.
Since I first downloaded it and rooted my phone I have not been able to update Snapchat or even install the Holo Version
This is also happening with other apps such as Facebook but not all.
It downloads fine, I probably have downloaded it 10 times now but it is the Installation where I get the error.
I was fine with this because I didn't care for updates but somehow randomly disappeared.
I didn't have enough room for a backup and I don't know how to install my Nandroid Backup or even where it is in general.
Has anyone got a fix, when I tried lucky patcher I couldn't find the 'remove fixes and backups' under troubleshooting.
There is a possible fix. Use a root file explorer to navigate to /data/app-lib. Find the specific folders for the apps which can be installed and remove those folders. That normally should fix it.

Hello, I know this is an old thread now.
However, I've been having an insufficient storage issue on my Galaxy S3 GTI9300.
It was happening with both Snapchat & Facebook. I tried every suggestion I could find on the web, deleting cache, dalvik, moving apps to external SD card, lucky patcher (no remove fixes and backups option anyway) and blah blah blah, I've deleted everything I dare to from the internal storage, it's now showing 4.65GB available. The only suggestion that half-worked was browsing to my /data/app-lib folder using a file manager and enabling root explorer. I deleted everything I could find for Snapchat and Facebook and for Snapchat, it has worked, I can now install updates from the play store. But for Facebook, the issue persists!
I'm on a custom ROM by the way, called Sentinel ROM V 6.0 (Android 4.4.2).
I'm on the verge of doing a factory reset and installing either this ROM or another custom one from fresh. Is there anything else I can try before doing this?
