Hi all:
As title, my Nokia8 can not download update of 2018-03...
I tried these:
1. stop and restart "google play service".
2. reset phone to factory.
But no use... program stop at "start download update."...
Who know how to fix this?
Its not even been offered to EE users in the UK so you are doing better than us lol

Just get yourself sim card from different network.
As soon as you'll put another sim, update will appear.

I shouldn't have to though, sadly i have already knackered a perfectly good Moto G 3rd gen getting a SIM out that was in an adapter and the adapter caught the SIM contacts in the phone and that was that, the phone no longer recognises a SIM card. I cant blame Nokia for it but if they were sending updates to handsets on EE it wouldn't have happened.
Bodging it doesn't fix or explain why EE or Nokia are doing what they are doing.
user1507808215403 on the Nokia community forums tried it and it didn't work for this update.
I use EE and did fine with updates until the consumer release of 8.1. This only came when I popped a 3 SIM in. However this month even that didn't work.

Yeah, I know.
I've spoken to Nokia support, but couldn't get any info why they doing this.
I've strange feeling that this have something to do with EE WiFi calling or HD voice (or however they calling it). Possibly updates needs their approval.
I even sort of coerced Nokia in to answering me after many ignored tweets and then i asked them what was going on and they just went back to being silent.
Hi
I am with EE and just got the Nokia 8 and current security Is 1 Feb 2018. Tried the other sim trick but still no March update.
Aye the SIM trick didn't work for me either, it seems Nokia soon wised up to that one.

Lots of people on Three saying no updates as well so i am guessing it is a regional thing rather than a specific network.

Possibly as I'm using "Play" sim card (Polish network) to get updates in UK.
Update appear immediately once foreigner sim card is inserted.
I've not received the march security update either here in the UK on Tesco Mobile. All the other updates came through almost straight away, but not this one.

Thank you so much! I was stuck on March update on my TA-1033 Nokia 6 (2017). I installed my Latvian (LMT) sim card in Turkey and profit! Updates are coming just fine.

So like everyone else, I bought my Nexus Carrier Free online and just popped in my sim from my M8 and it worked.......up until 30 mins ago when I called in to make a plan change. For some reason, I could not make a plan change online so I had to call in. They recognized that my phone was not a VZW phone and I believe took it off the account to make the plan change.
Now it pops up with a message that says Sign into Verizon wireless, and your Device can not be activated. Not sure what to do at this point.
I have already tried restarting the phone and no luck. I think if I pop my sim in my old M8 it might work but I am stuck at work and cant access it until I am off. Any ideas?

You can't make plan changes with a non-Verizon device tied to your account. They probably moved the sim to make the changes. If you're lucky you can reactivate the sim in your M8 but I'd bet you're going to have to get a new sim. Next time just take the sim out of your Nexus, put it in the M8, make your plan changes, and then switch back. I've done this a few times with an old Moto X.
That's what I figured. Well as long as they don't block my Nexus from network access, I should be alright. I hope at least. I wait till I get home and keep my fingers crossed.
Glad I saw this. I will be making a plan change before swapping to the nexus when it arrives
UPDATE. NEEDED TO ACTIVATE MY OLD PHONE WITH NEW SIM. If you want to make a plan change, pop your sim into your old phone, make the change, then into the Nexus,
I have an major issue, I don't have a Verizon device to use to activate my Sim on my nexus 6. I have service already but my Sim got damaged and the device I used to activate my Sim card the Sim card port is damaged, which is preventing my new Sim activation. I don't know anyone with a Verizon device I can use to activate the new Sim. Guess I'll just cancel my vzw service. I can't win for loosing.

Thats wierd for my store they know me as the rooter (hence the name), and when they see me coming in. I bring in my nexus 6, and the sales rep just takes one of their in store phones activate the sim that way and then i pop it in the nexus 6. Done that twice now with no problems.

That was my issue in the thread referenced - after failing to get beyond the website, people on the phone (including Tech Support) and people in the store, I obtained someone's Moto X in order to activate the nano SIM on my line and then swapped it to the Nexus 6. The other option was to wait until Verizon recognizes the phone (hopefully soon), but I decided to do it early because their SIM activation process is more of a hassle than it needs to be and wanted to thwart Verizons controls, in just this little way .
And yet, some folks - especially towards the current end of that topic - have been saying that they found friendly and helpful Representatives who helped them activate directly with the Nexus 6. I don't know how that was accomplished due to the system checks in place, though.
Finding someone who can lend a phone just to activate the SIM on your line might be a consideration.

Iv asked everyone that I know if they had a Verizon 4g unactivated phone I could use to activate my Sim with and no luck. Just to be sure the phone that I need to borrow needs to be unactivated meaning if its already activated then it won't work right?

Hm, someone else might know better than I would, but I've moved phones temporarily off an active line - replacing them with an older 3G backup phone with completely different SIM - in order to use the newly freed phone to activate my new SIM on another line on behalf of a different phone. Then I just reactivate the 4G phone back on its original line after putting its original SIM back in.
For the Nexus 6, I still have the Moto X on hand from the nano SIM activation and it no longer shows up in my account for the line - instead, I get that "unrecognized" phone message from Verizon with no picture. For all I know, this Moto X is no longer considered active on my line or in this account, so might work for your line activation purposes if you're in the NY metro region, actually. PM if interested.

Finally got my nexus activated. I had to go to Walmart and buy a 4g prepaid LG transpyer I then used my imei from my old note 2. I'm now gonna return the LG to Walmart and get my 80$ back.
Same Issue Today
My finance saw Verizon cutting the data plan by $10's so she jumped on it and kicked my phone off the Verizon network in the process. Had to go to the Verizon store and get the guy to grab a return phone, program said SIM and pop it into a phone. Too bad my backup phone doesn't take the small SIMS...
My nexus 5 recently crapped out on me and I picked up an at&t s6 edge that I unlocked to use on tmobile.
Obviously, its night and day compared to my nexus as far as development..
Anyways, when I go to at&t software update on the phone it says I am up to date, but im on the old OE2 build and want to update.
Will it only update if Im using at&t sim? or is something else wrong?
I'm 99% certain you need an AT&T SIM installed for AT&T Software Update to see updates.

I just got a AT&T unlocked LG G2 and updated Android with no sim in phone just turned WiFi on and check for updates. To check addition update after successfully update set clock 1 day ahead and check updates again and so no sim is needed.
Perhaps you can Odin your updates without an ATT sim.

OK.The first time it worked without a AT&T sim.I set my phone back to factory and it said it's not registered yet.So I just took a unactivated AT&T sim,put it in phone and check updates and it downloaded the update. So you do need a AT&T sim card to get the updates.

I also believe you can root your phone and get the updates from here on the forum and flash the update on your phone. What kind of phone you got and are you willing to root your phone or buy a AT&T sim from somewhere but I think that sim has to be active. I have a AT&T sim from Go Phone service that cut off but it still worked for updating my phone.

Hi,
Got one from Amazon.de. Appears to be legit EU stock but there is no software update. Others talk about Android 8.1 and March/April security updates the one I have has neither. I also have jittery touch screen issues which is why I am hopeful a update is pending...
Anyone seen something like this before?
Thanks,

I have a TA-1046 DS bought in the Netherlands. Got my 8.1 april sec. update about 2 weeks ago.
Thanks for the reply. Little bit anoyed that this is stuck on 8. As mentioned I am finding quite a few touch related issues and am hopeful that a software update (of any kind) may help. Considering a return sadly.
In which country are you?
I have the same problem and I'm based in UK. As the Nokia 7 plus has been released only yesterday in UK I just assumed that they are not rolling out the ota here yet, focusing first on the countries where the phone was released earlier.
Unfortunately there is no way to force the ota, right?
I tried a VPN to France and Germany and no difference. So I’m assuming it’s eithrt not country linked or some other factor determines the OTA availability
I got mine in Spain the very same day it released (this Monday) and the update triggered as soon as I turned it on and connected it to wifi, even before going through the rest of the startup process. Same model number also but I didn't put my SIM card in until I was finished with the data transfer from my old phone. Maybe you can try to factory reset it without a SIM card inserted?
I got mine on Amazon.de. I am in Ireland. Still 8.0, Feb security.
I was a bit worried as this is one of the reason I bought the phone in the first place.
After reading these posts I now hope that it may be region dependent D
Thank you for starting this post.

SIM is not the problem. I setup mine without SIM also.
I was thinking to do a factory reset, but after reading few posts here, I might wait a while.
Maybe I'll contact Nokia support also
I contacted them today through the support app that's on the phone.

OK, so I had a chat with NOKIA support.
Got my phone from Amazon.de and I am in Ireland. The guy there thinks I should have got the update at the start.
"Yes I do , from our end it all looks clear, device is for the correct region, IMEI checks out ..."
He advised to backup data, reset to FD and restart without SIM in (which I did anyway :silly:
"in my opinion no SIM would be the safest bet, but you could keep a card in if you'd like, just make sure to backup your data first"
So lets hope we do not have to send the phones back.
I will backup a few pictures, charge the phone and try the reset. I'll keep you updated.

I received mine on the 17th(release day in Portugal) and during setup I got the update msg and I did the setup with the SIM and SD Card already installed...
I tried reset to FD and setup again with and without SIM - still no update.
After another chat with Nokia support it seems that we are late to the party and we have to wait in the queue:
"What I could advise you is to try and check for update at a different time, because at the moment the network might be overloaded due to the large number of devices downloading updates." - this is according to the 2nd Nokia rep.
He might be right with so many EU countries getting the 7+ lately.
Hmm, that's the response id give if I wanted someone to stop bothering me! Not very inspiring. It also just doesn't seem very plausible to me...
Support is not real very helpful, with the only suggestion being "wait"
Does Nokia have a pc tool to recover or do software update?
I used to have one for my LG, so that the pc tool would push the update instead of waiting for an OTA

Spanish - Espana - No Update
Factory data reset Without Sim:
German - No Update
French - France - no update.

I also think that the update will not roll until the phone is released in the respective country.
If you can check in Italy, that would be great.
It would make things so easy if Nokia will let us download the firmware and install it in recovery - see recovery menu below:

Did you setup your VPN on the router or on the mobile?
I am thinking to try this also, but if you setup your VPN on the router and connected to WIFI and it did not work, then it would be pointless for me to try again.
So I have the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 512 GB, I was having trouble today activating it, but an online rep helped me get the phone working with Sprint. However, the phone will not stay connected to Sprint. When I boot the phone then will work as normal for five minutes but after that, I will get the invalid sim error and all network services will just disconnect. I took the phone to a Sprint store and the rep switched out the sim for a*known working sim, but that didn't work. The rep suggested I call Samsung and get the phone replaced, but before I do that I wanted to know if anyone else is having similar issues.

-Thanks,
P.S. I also want to add the when the phone does reboot I'm getting the sim card is locked. Then everything in my OP happens.

You would have had to pay $10 for BYOD. I had sprint send me 2 wrong SIMS for phones and it would say invalid sim. The BYOD also usually comes in a pack with 3 different types. If the SIM they gave you was just a single SIM on a credit card sized card its likely not BYOD. Those sims are for sprint phones BYOD sims are required for unlocked phones. If you went in and said you need a SIM for a Note 9 they may have assumed you had a sprint one.

Why did you need tech support? It looks pretty straightforward to me. Scan the code and install eSim number. I wonder if I can use a physical sim for one Verizon number and the eSim for another on Vzw. Then I can drop Fi finally.
I needed tech cause my current number is attached to an iPhone esim and I needed them to be able to transfer the number back to the Pixel.

Are you sure about that? When I transferred my phone number to another phone via eSim it just asked for my phone number (I think.. now I'm not sure exactly) but I had the activated phone turned off and then just enabled eSim on the new phone and the phone number was there. The old phone eSim was deactivated. I think the message was something like if you install the eSim here then all other eSims will be deactivated. Maybe with Verizon the process is different but it's basically the same as switching physical sims. You take it out of one phone, put it in another and done. Heck, turn off the iPhone and try to activate the eSim on the Pixel see what happens. (easy for me to say lol)

I did have my iPhone on while trying. I will give your suggestions a try tonight. Thank you?

Thanks. Let us know the messages you get either positive or negative. I'm wanting to try this out too even though my situation is slightly different.
Could you post a link? I've checked on Verizon and there is nothing on using an eSim for the pixel 4. The only thing I see online is that the pixel 4 isn't compatible with eSim

Has to go through tier 2 tech support since no one knows what they are doing. Also, make sure you are updated to best software 200405.005. I didn't realize I wasn't updated when I tried and it wouldn't work, so will have them switch it tomorrow.

Even from the link you posted it shows they're clueless. To have to go through that nonsense when it should only take a scan of QR code is absurd. I'll wait a few months for them to clear it up.

I agree. On an iPhone it's just a simple QR code scan and you're done. I'll wait until Verizon figures out how to do it right.
Last week I activated eSim with T-Mobile. I first had to call and tell the rep EID of my phone. Then I went to settings>network... and then next to mobile network, I tapped + sign and followed the steps. (I did open T-Mobile esim support page which had QR code or I could type some info myself.)

Did this deactivate your physical SIM if you were using one prior?

Yes, it did.
A day before, I put physical sim into an iPhone to test. Then next day I wanted to put the sim card back into my Pixel 4 and at that time I remembered about eSIM . Called T-Mobile and when the rep entered EID of my Pixel, he told that that the phone we talk on(iPhone) will get disconnected and it did. He did notify me if the sim is inserted into Pixel 4, to remove it... looks like it is best to remove the physical before connecting eSIM.
