SM-T819 2 simple questions - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a brand new T819 LTE. It's the second T819 that I bought in 3 months because the stole my previous one. And here are my questions:
1. The new 819 has 2 small round "buttons" at the back and it's more rectangular. Are there different versions of the 819?
2. In the old 819, the time was automatically adjusted to the correct timezone, even without a SIM card. In the new 819 the timezone is not modified (no, I don't have a SIM installed). The weather picked the new location but the rest of tablet no. Any ideas?

Experience with DualSim in Treo 750

I have a work SIM and a private SIM and really do not want to carry two phones around. In my previous two models of regular (not-smart) phones I used one of those dualsim cards where you cut our the center of each sim and slip them into a new sim card with some extra electronics on it. You can then switch between the sims with a couple of key presses or even at automatic time intervals. eg. http://duosim.com/
OK, so I have two different makes of this type of dual-sim card and tried each one in the 750. The switching program shows up in the phones menu and it looks like it is going to work but it does not. When you try to switch to the second sim, the phone switches off and back on, but the the phone is still using the first sim.
I really want to find a way to get this to work. I have ordered one of those multi-sim card cloners (same link as above), in the hope that will work differently.
Has anyone found a solution to this ? Either a particular make of dual-sim or multi-sim cloner that works or maybe a tweak to get past the above mentioned problem ?

Hi gajsler,
I found myself being in the same situation: Want to use both office and private Sims with my Treo.
After some research I can say that it depends mostly on the combination of SIMs you are using. If you are using any UMTS/3G SIMs then a digital DualSim-application wouldn't do trick, especially if you are using a H3G-SIM (Hutchison 3G).
You will need an analog DualSim-holder for these SIMs.
I've got one from HongKong (Ghost SIM, no cutting) but it doesn't work correctly. Only the first SIM card is being used ... don't know how to get past this issue.
Seems to be tricky. Will post any additional experiences.
Greetz,
TreMax

2in1 Sim Question

I have a SIM with two numbers, 2in1.
The problem is that it always shows on the title bar the number "1" (Line 1)
with the two numbers. The problem is that I don't know which number is on abd I have to go into the SIM menu to check.
any solution?
where did you get a 2 in one sim - i need one of those!
it's a service by my network.
This SIM has two numbers and whether someone calls you on the first number or on the second, the phone rings.
Aw Crap!
Hey well thx for the swift answer anyway!
;-)
You can buy 2 in 1 sims on ebay along with a sim duplicator that will put both of your single sims on the 2 in 1 card. The actually even have super sims that can hold way more than 2 sims. Just search super sim on ebay and I'm sure you'll find what I'm talking about.
Thx buddy I will - not sure if these will work with Tmob tho or willthey fit the kaiser...

That I couldn't tell you. I've never used one before, just knew where to find them. SIM cards should all be the same size though so it should fit and I just read a post in the wizard forum earlier today that said that one cooked ROM for the wizard even supports multi sim cards and the ones that don't you can change which number is being used in the sim manager. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if that means you'll miss any calls made to the number not being used or if you only have to change the one being used if you want to use that number to dial out on.
No,you won't lose any phones.
The only thing is that you don't know which number you have active (to make calls).
Just this....The 2in1 SIM cards work fine on Kaiser without a problem at all.
this is great news you lot are frikkin brilliant - why did i stay away so long?!

OH MY GOD ! Line 2 support in WM6 Pro

Wow, i just upgraded my OS to Dutty's final rom, leaving my radio rom as the standard Orange one. And, hang on, what is that 1 up the top next to the G.
Go into the phone app, hold down # and hey presto. Line 2. WOW
This is the first ever phone/os combo that has line 2 support on a pocket pc phone. Has been supported from day 1 in smartphones but not in the pocket pc, why, i dont know, but now it is. Hurrah.
This probly doesnt apply to most people on here but anyone else with line 2 then get stuck in.
Cheers
rob.

here you go
it is hard to find a dual SIM card....
Hmm, nothing happens when i hold #
Could you give us your radio number :S
I don't have this option and I got duttyroy's final touch flo rom.
And the holding # in phone did not help :S
not a dual simcard, guys... single but with 2 lines.
yeah rogers has a feature like this as well, but not sure how/if it works with the kaiser
yeah it is just a single sim card with 2 different phone numbers.
You can recieve calls on both numbers and it tells you which line it comes in on.
You can also make calls on both numbers by holding # to select which line you want it to go out on.
Orange have offered it as a feature for years, Tmobile in the UK used to as well back in the One2One days, might still do. That is where i got mine from. I was on a One2One precept time plan which came with a priority line free. Back then all the second line could do is recieve calls. It was so you could divert all your calls to voicemail if you were in a meeting or something, but the priority line would still ring through.
When i moved to Orange i got them to match my plan and they did and gave me my line 2. Then when virgin mobile started up i got Orange to put my second line onto that timeplan pricematch so i can keep it forever and not pay any line rental on it, just the call cost. Have had it for years and years. Always wondered why it wasnt supported on Pocket PC's when it was on smartphones.
So there you go, that is the story of my second line.
I think it will only work if your have Orange Line2 SIM
As mentioned, it is one single simcard with two lines/contracts
Orange currently do this and as far as I know, are the only ones that do it - It is in theory two numbers, two contracts (two lines)

No it's not. It's 2 lines, ONE contract, ONE number. You can put a call on hold and make/receive another call.
Well not unless they do 2 different sorts, but mine is as stated by akash_84. It is 2 different numbers and 2 different contracts. Obviously under the same account though. When you get your bill though you get 2 bills as if it were a second phone.

I can do that with 1 line, it's called "Call Waiting" & "Conference" functions.
Our Brit Friends are talking about something totally different. When I worked a Motorola (12 years ago) they had the ability to offer this to their employees but I've never heard of a US Carrier offering such a feature.
Basically is is like having 2 lines at your home or business. They function a two seperate lines. If you silence the first line line2 still rings.
This feature is called ALS (automatic line switching) it is a part of GSM standart, but though not all operators support it. It is like "software dual-sim". You actually have two numbers on one sim and can have two different contracts. One for talking and one, with cheaper traffic, for surfing for example.
I do not know if it is actually working on Kaiser, as I do not use it, but though I have this annoying "1" sign in my taskbar =( An I do not know how to get rid of it.
As said a few times Orange UK have offered this service for years, its probably not as popular as it was, its effectivley two differany contracts and numbers on 1 sim card.
It used to be VERY popular a few years back when Orange UK offered a service called everyday 50. meaning you go 50 mins of evening calls free every days for a very cheap price.
The catch was expensive calls during the day.
To combat this, people had an any time tariff on line 1 (first number) and the offpeak tariff on the second line (second number)
A couple of times i would of been on the phone for 20 mins during the day time to finish the call and find i was using the wrong line and got stung for the day time usage!
Whichever line you dialled out would be displayed at the other end.
Works quite well also for seperating business and plesure as you can disable calls coming in on one of the lines (ie the weekend)
no line 2 (ALS) option on my phone
I have a AT&T Tilt, modded with Dutty's Final ROM as well... but under SETTINGS>Phone there is no ALS tab like the one you show....
am i missing something?
(Using on Rogers Wireless Canada with a Sim Card with two lines/numbers)
I cannot call out on the 2nd number, which is important.
I used to have a HTC 621 (aka Dash/Excalibur) which didnt have this option either but at least when people called the Line2 number it would have a distinctive ring... the Tilt/Kaiser makes no distinction with either number...
Help
Northred, you can try to enable it by setting "ShowALSPage" to 1 in your registry under HKLM/Software/OEM/PhoneSetting.
I beleive 2nd line is a Orange thing, you get 2 numbers.....one simcard
I have a Cosmote (Greece) SIM card which has 2 numbers in it (2in1) but the Line 1 or 2 doesn't work whether I use First number of SIMcard or Second, the "1" remains there.

GT-N7000 and specific SIM cards not reading

Well, here I go again with not only another smartphone but I finally got my hands on the GT-N7000 International model with the physical home button. So I get it home, check it out, everything appears to be working fine:
- battery is brand new, just manufactured in January 2014, not a fake one (I checked that out with Samsung directly based on the battery serial number)
- was originally on Android 2.3.6 and upgraded to 4.1.2 through Kies without issues
- no hardware problems noted, everything works great, no damage to the phone at all
Here's where it gets a bit confusing. This is the International version which means it should be unlocked without me having to do anything to or with it, so - when the phone was on 2.3.6 - I took one of my newer T-Mobile microSIM cards and using the adapter to make it a proper miniSIM I slid it into the SIM slot, put the battery back in the phone and turned it on, and nothing gets detected at all.
I pull the battery, find another microSIM, do it again, still the same result. In fact, every microSIM I have (4 T-Mobile, 1 AT&T, all within a year old but none of them are currently activated - whenever I use the T-Mobile SIMs it will still connect to T-Mobile and allow me to pull up the billing web page; the AT&T SIMs never do that and just complain about the SIM not being provisioned).
Since my intention is to use the $30/monthly plan with T-Mobile that I've had in the recent past, I went looking into my little canister of older full size miniSIM cards and found two of them that I used with T-Mobile over the past few years. As most devices use microSIMs and even nanoSIMs nowadays, I figured I better keep them around just in case.
SO... I put one of them in and voila, I get a connection - or so I thought. When inserted, and again when using 2.3.6 I was able to get into the service menu (*#*#4636#*#*) and it would show the number assigned to that SIM originally, etc but it wouldn't show the network. Tried the second SIM card, it gets recognized, same thing - it just doesn't show T-Mobile.
Now, I've never had an International Galaxy Note so I'm kinda confuzzled here so the primary question is this:
Is the GT-N7000 simply incompatible with some SIM cards, even when they're in an adapter so they fit into the SIM slot proper? I know this isn't an LTE capable phone, that's not a concern at all - I suppose I'm not 100% sure that it's even compatible with T-Mobile given the bands but since T-Mobile works nicely here in Las Vegas (at least for me) and they're using more bands nowadays, I'm very interested in attempting to figure this out.
I went ahead and performed the Kies upgrade to 4.1.2 and it's working great so far, but again the same issue: the phone can't or won't see or access anything but these two older T-Mobile miniSIM cards - not anything else that I happen to have which includes two brand new T-Mobile microSIMs I ordered a few weeks back.
Could it be that perhaps the leaf-spring contacts inside the SIM slot are just not making contact on some of the other SIM cards that I'm trying to get recognized, or could this be something with the phone itself due to it being the International variant, or maybe it just not supporting the bands that T-Mobile happens to be using nowadays...?
Any help or info is greatly appreciated as I'd really love to get this thing up and running. If it means I have to get yet another SIM card from T-Mobile to get it working then that's what I'll have to do I suppose.
Thanks for any input...
ps
Just for the record I popped the back housing (not the battery cover, I mean the back housing held down by screws) off just now to get a look at the SIM card slot itself, it appears to have a 3-2 configuration (meaning the 3 visible leaf-spring connectors and the other two are not visible unless you remove that back housing). Maybe a lead snapped off, perhaps? Seems like there should be 6 leaf-spring leads...
pss
And after looking at parts on eBay it does seem like there should be 6, I guess one of them snapped off at some point with the previous owner and probably the reason they were selling it. Odd...

US Cellular Note 9 no longer updating on AT&T?

Back in July I got a steal on a new US Cellular Galaxy Note 9, so I immediately threw my iPhone 6S SIM card into it and went through several rounds of software updates. After the last update the splash screen switched to AT&T and it suddenly had several AT&T apps. It didn't TOTALLY eliminate the US Cellular stuff because I had to delete at least one app and change the Samsung browser's default home page.
Due to the iPhone SIM card and some stuff on AT&T's side, it would not do VoLTE or WiFi calling until I got a new SIM and had AT&T use the IMEI from an AT&T Galaxy Note 9 (read it off one from the store). I did that in late August and the only remaining issue O noticed was that my MMS messages will not download as long as I am on WiFi.
I just noticed what may be a new issue: I think I stopped getting carrier updates. Looking on AT&T's site, I see that they have multiple newer updates with the latest from September 18th:
https://www.att.com/devicehowto/tut...tep_KM1278532?make=Samsung&model=SamsungN960U
My "Security Patch Level" says May 1, 2019, while AT&T's website says that there have been 4 updates since then (latest at Security Patch Level September 1, 2019).
My baseband version doesn't quite match any of the ones associated with AT&T updates, though their May 22nd update seems to be the most similar (AT&T's N960USQS1CSE1 compared with my N960USQU1CSE3).
I recall that the new phone updated multiple times and was still on Oreo before it updated again to Pie, and again to AT&T-flavored Pie. I figure the final update was really just adding the AT&T apps and splash screen, but it somehow stopped me from getting further updates from US Cellular. I'm pretty sure I had an AT&T SIM card inserted for all of my updates.
On that note, I believe I tossed the original SIM and US Cellular does not operate in my region (only showed up here through a salvage store). I'm not easily able to get another US Cellular SIM for triggering it to revert to a US Cellular ROM. I'm not interested in custom ROMs and all that and ultimately just want to keep my phone up to date the same way a normal AT&T customer would after buying theirs from AT&T. I thought the Note 9 adding carrier customizations to match the inserted SIM would take care of all this automatically (half the point, right?) but I guess I was wrong.
Is it possible to get carrier updates like I was getting before? If not, what would you guys recommend for getting up to date and staying up to date? Thanks!
