After i lost the tool i designd a new one in blender and 3D-printed it. It works but its not perfect. You have to apply kinda much pressure. I will post a link to thingiverse. If you dont have acces to a 3D printer i can print and ship them for 5€ + shipping. Contact me at [email protected] . My goal is NOT to make money out of this but to help others! :highfive:
Also: the tool for the watch urbane which can be found on eBay does not work.
Here is the link to thingiverse
LG Watch Sport SIM Tool W280A found on thingiverse.com: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2900185
Hmm... 404
Lost mine within days!
you dont need it. i used a sim removal tool to open it by "pressing" on the tool holes from an angle. just press on those holes in the direction they open and switch holes every so often. it's easy enough
Here is a working link:
sim tray opener for LG watch sport lga 280 found on #Thingiverse https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2900185
I think you can make this tool very easy using steel wire about 5 cm long bend it to fit in 2 of 3 holes and bend 90° both end about 1-2 mm.
Sorry for the ugly picture for ilustration only.
I guess no one has figured out how to purchase an original one? I doesn't seem to be available anywhere.
Thank you
Gonna print it today.. report later
Thanks
Personally, I just had the same issue because I intend on porting my services to TMobile here in a week or so ago, and can't find my SIM tool. I ended up finding a pair of snap ring pliers in my toolbox that had pins that fit in two of the three holes, used these to remove the back. Worked fine. Tried calling LG support, they "have no list of parts for this device". Transferred me to their parts vendor for US Eastern, Encompass or something like that. They have no list of parts for the device and advised that I contact LG again. LG then tried to tell me to contact ATT, as if they'd know what parts composed a device they didn't make... Don't ask me how it was ever made if no one knows what parts are in it, and that really bodes well for any repairs it might need in the future (band breakage?).
Make tool with paper clip. Works fine.

I've had my wizard for a year and it's been great however within the last 2 weeks, the stylus started to get lose and now it won't even stay in; I've already had others pick up and return my stylus to me.
Looking at the warranty card, it says there's a 2 year limited warranty while the O2 contract says 1 year. My wizard is a G3 unit (no .0001 at the end and in the info it mentions G3 somewhere) and it's sim unlocked (not sure if it's CID unlocked but it should be) and it can o/c to 260MHz stable but at 275 ... tried once it's fairly unstable.
My question is this: with g3 units apparently being the easier one to unlock and sought after (correct me if I'mwrong here), should I fix it myself or call up O2 (is the warranty period really 2 years to begin with anyway) and get them to replace it? My wizard was also just dropped by a relative (1 year and not a scratch till he drops it on the kitchen floor) and now has a few scratch marks on one side (although I want to give it a paint job, I'm a little uncertain if I should...grab and do a spare body perhaps? besides I have no paint skills).
I do also have the intention of grabbing another XDA or equivalent device later down the line but also going WM6 on the wizard before that. What should I do?
fix it yourself, not worth the extra hassle if you get a g4.
and it will be quicker, do you want to be without it while it's getting fixed for two weeks or more?
BTW it is CID locked. but o2 don't seem to bother sim locking.

Truly...fear the G4?
So the G4 units are truly a pain to deal with? I'm just a little hesitant to rip open my mobile but...if I get a G4 unit.... I'm going to be in trouble.
I should have a torx set here but do you know if the warranty itself is for 2 years or 1 year? If the warranty is still on, where are these "warranty seals"?
to be honest, I don't really know anything about g4s. but I do know that every rom thread has someone asking if it'll work and/or that they have to strip out the ipl and spl etc (though lots of new custom roms come without those now).
I think you have to, must, pay to cid unlock.
and there is a dedicated g4 thread, which can't be a good sign
however, I just did the stylus fix and now the volume slider doesn't work, trying to fix at this moment.
read the g4 thread
also bear in mind if your current model supports 4gb sd cards you may get one that doesn't, or the other way round
If you don't want to take your device apart, there is a simpler option you could try...
Cut approx 1 inch square from a plastic carrier bag
Place this over the end of the stylus and push the stylus + plastic into the hole.
That should be it - no more dropped stylus
I used this "fix" about a year ago and still working beautifully
I wrapped a small strip of Diamond Sellotape (the clear invisible stuff) round my stylus, thus making it slightly thicker. This stopped it from dropping out all the time!

It is an easy fix, I was hesitant also but in the end I just opened it up and sorted it out. Not a big deal at all.
Stripping a sharp 1080p flatpanel to turn into a home brew front projection HDTV unit is much more stressful.
Hmm...void warantee I guess...sooner or later
Stripping it isn't really something I'm too hesitant about (save for the warranty). I might try the paper bag trick for now but I might rebuild it if anyone knows where I can get custom fascias...

Nice and pricey
Nice but where's the D pad and softkeys? Also are there any pre-painted ones...otherwise it looks like a DiY job for me and I've never done paint jobs before. All things considered, I might just get a new fascia and fit it on as sold and try and get a skin or something until I can paint the old fascia.
So one of my friends at work had an att tilt. However his son dropped it out of his pants pocket and the screen popped off. Screen is still in one piece however completly seperated from the tilt mechanism and the ribbon cable is missing. So I told him instead of throwing it away (cause att does not offer insurance) to give it to me and I'd see what I can do (Gonna unlock it and use it as an upgrade for my wing ).
I've read some of the hardware manuals and can already see I'll need parts to fix it. But I have no ideas what ones. Or if it's even worth it to fix. I mean its basically a free tilt minus any repair costs. Any help?

Check thi site, there is a manual how to dismantle kaiser. Could be helpful:
http://michael-channon.spaces.live....smantling+%2f+Disassembling+Guides+HTC%2fETEN
Thank you, however thats actually the repair manual I looked at. However while looking for parts I have yet to find the ribbon cable that connects to the display.
This is basically what I have except the ribbon cable is missing. And alot of steps missing to get it this way.

OMG, that had to hurt.
Yeah, kid was playing basketball and fell out of his pocket. I guess the kid has broke 4 phones this month... curve, tilt, 2 pantec duos. Told my friend to get him a $20 go-phone now lol. And use the savings to get me a tilt
I dont know what kind of damage besides the physical the drop may have caused. Phone was not on at the time so that may have helped it (I hope)

Without actually looking at it, its hard to say what exactly you need. But you for sure need a new flex cable. Unfortunately that is the hardest part to find. At least here in the US. I usually buy broken phones from people who don't want to pay for a repair. Then I use the parts from them. You can get a new housing easily enough if you need it but the flex cable will be your biggest hurdle.
I suggest trying to find one broken on ebay and using the 2 you have to make one working phone. Even a broken Tilt can run for $200 on ebay though.
Anyone notice that case has already been replaced at some stage as it has a camera hole (not standard for Tilts) a keyboard without the white part and no logo. Perhaps the replacement was weaker than the original one. If the O/P searches the forum here for LCD Screen replacements there's loads of links to different companies supplying parts for Kaiser variants. I have no experience using any of them though so cant suggest which ones are best.
@Planet Neo
Yeah I was thinking that but was hoping it wouldn't come to that. Would suck to spend $200 for parts just to find the motherboard is broke or something to that effect. Was hoping someone knew of a place to buy a new cable or had one to sell. Also was hoping someone with some experience could let me know if they think I'd need a new tilt assembly.
@Flying Kiwi
Lol, I used a picture from kaiser disassembly guide to show what i was referring to. It has the standard tilt case. I'll be taking pictures of what I have as soon as I have the phone in my possession.
Okay I assume that its going to be very hard to get the ribbon and you're going to need housing. I believe that it will be the same as making a new tilt, because the screen is as good as dead without the ribbon so all you could do is get new housing and a new screen and it should rack up about $150-200. Which in my opinion is much easier and faster and better than frustrating on getting a ribbon.
Just my 2 cents.

I'm sure you'll think I'm busting your balls / stalking you but hard to find? Hell no! Expensive, maybe ( $100) but hard to find? I think not. Good job you're not charging people for you expert advice else they'd be wanting refunds....how long did you say you'd been doing this for?
http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=tytn+flex&category0=
You need a TYTN II flex. There are many other suppliers and if you go direct they may be a bit cheaper. google is your friend....
To check the board - connect to a windoze computer with a mini USB cable and power up or press the soft reset button to boot it - it should ident and install then try to sync. It should boot fine even with no LCD if it's OK assuming the battery still holds some charge.
A full housing will run you about $60. Some sellers have just front panels for about $40 though I'm unsure if these have the pivot.

Man, MS you really need to get off my nuts. It's getting creepy. I said in my post hard to find at least in the US. And the link you gave was for a seller in China. One more word of advice for the OP, Make sure this part actually works for the AT&T Tilt variant. I had a customer buy a Flex cable for the HTC Herald thinking it would work for the T-Mobile Wing but due to the modified button layout of the Wing it did not fit correctly. Much like this person HERE experienced.

These things are made in Shenzhen so where you think the parts come from?
Stop talking &*%(* and I'll stop correcting your posts Instead of saying something is a fact say it's your opinion. It's not a 'rare' part - and they ship WORLDWIDE. It's not as if he'll get one from a local mom and pop store - it's gonna be mail order wherever you get it from and looking at the seller's feedback is a good judge - all my parts come from China - so why pay a middleman such as yourself extra $ just so it has a US stamp on the package?
Someone needs to act as quality control on your posts and it looks like it's gonna have to be me if you keep posting [email protected]

Wanted good UK Kaiser repair shop/out of warranty repair & UK parts supplier - where?
Hi guys,
I have a working T-Mobilie Vario III (kaiser) and just had the warranty voided by HTC because the moisture sensor is activated (they say I have soaked it basically, I haven't).
The phone has had a long term (1 year) problem with the ear speaker not working and now my handsfree kit left speaker has broken so....
1) I need a parts supplier in the UK for a new handsfree kit
2) I need a decent, cheap, reliable independant repair shop who will fit a new ear speaker/fix the connection problem if a ribbon etc on this otherwise working Kaiser. Also my front and back covers are a bit scratched could do with new ones fitting while It's in bits.
I could fit a new ear speaker myself, but due to having to fully dissamble the whole phone to get to it and it possibly being a connection on the mainboard etc, I'm a touch reluctant. I have fitted a new screen to an xda exec and have tools, but little experiece with such small electronics.
Other option - if I put a new post on here and find someone with a bricked Kaiser with a good case/screen it looks easier to take out the mainboard/gubbins and replace them with mine and the 'under back cover' with my imei written on it. Am I right in saying this should be a good alternative?
Any help appreciated, this is a right saga and I really want it working again by xmas.
Greg.
Hi,
I managed to crack the screen of my Tytn2 a few months back, phone would turn on, screen go white, but no images were visible and a big crack was visible on the screen.
Luckily enough a quick search identified http://gsm-support.co.uk/ who are based in Barnet, London.
I found them via e-bay, not sure if they still advertise via ebay though.
I called them up explained by position and agreed an amount paid via paypal (£60, a little pricey, but I use my phone ALOT and couldn't be with out it for too long). I could have traveled to their place of business, where they would have conducted the works then and there, but was too busy so elected for postage.
Posted off my phone, (no battery, stylus, sim or sd card should be included while posting... their requirements not mine) and had it back, good as new within two days.
The phone had been hard reset, so I had to reinstall all my apps etc, but I keep back ups on my micro sd card, inconvenient but not a big issue.
Overall IMHO a very good service, quick, convenient and reliable.
Let us know how you get on.
I used Turn On Your Mobile in SW19
I had my USB port fail and to my delight found this firm near to where I live. They had the problem sorted in an hour and it only cost £40. I can thoroughly recommend.
Cheers,
Ashley
THanks for that! I got it fixed at Dr Unlock in Nottingham, £25 and it's fixed just fine.
Good to know HTC said it required a mobo, lcd, case and had water damage (no damage visable even under microscope, just a broken speaker).
Greg.
Hi Guys,
I have managed to pur two cups of tea on the screen of my vario 111. Screen will not responnd to touch any more, Plus I managed to hard rest forgeting that i had no touch screen so now locked phone as i cannot align my screen to continue with booting.

Hello,
Some days are better than others...
I managed to break several of the small metal pins in the sim reader, don't ask me how but I did it =(
I unmounted the phone and it's really just a small circuit board linked to the motherboard with a single ribbon
I have googled for where to find this spare part but no chance so far
Would you know where I could find this part and help me revive my Nexus S ?
Thanks for your help
Thanks for deleting my useless post : just found out a link in the post below !
Sorry =(
Did you find a solution ? My sim card reader (or sim card tray) is broken too and I can't find the replacement part to buy...
Couldn't you guys just do a warranty claim? It shouldn't break that easily unless you were messing with it.
I can't claim warranty since it's "customer induced damage" : needed to insert my sim card into an Ipad. Not willing to lose my micro sim adapter, I put it in the Nexus S without a sim in an tore the pins when taking it out
Moreover, I live in Europe and Samsung has after-sales per region, if not country. they would'nt accept an US purchased handset anyway.
Didn't find any trace of this spare part on any other site but globaldirectpart and it's still showing as "Coming soon"....
I am in Brazil and the phone hasn't arrived in here so Samsung Brasil don't touch it.... despite the fact that they are going to say that this is not covered by warranty.
I did not find anywhere else too...
How about insurance then? But I'm assuming you don't have that either or can't.
Good luck to finding the part though. Globaldirectpart seems to have a tendency of inflating price.

Don't have any insurance for my phones and it wouldn't work either cos I damaged the phone myself =)
I don't really mind the price since it would cost me about 50 euros including shipping due to the exchange rate between $ and €. Just missing my phone a lot and tired of waiting =)

Yep! We still waiting for the replacement part to be available... I read about a guy that replaced it with a Galaxy S part... but I did not figure out how.
I called a few suppliers in Asia but no luck so far
it's killing me to have my Nexus S in a drawer for a 10 bucks spare part =(
Yes, me too... that's why I love Apple and my iPhone... Samsung sucks... If I find it anywhere I will post it. I will try to find some more information about replacing it with Galaxy S part.
Do you have any link about this guy using the Galaxy S tray ?
update
Anyone have an update on this? I just broke one of the pins inside the sim tray as well....I am unable to find the parts anywhere online. This is driving me nuts....I'll even pay to repair it!
How did you break yours? I can see the op breaking his with an empty micro sim adapter, but if this is breaking from normal usage, that's not good..
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
Not yet. I've read that it is possible to replace it with the Galaxy S sim tray. I've bought one and I am waiting it to arrive. I should have it in one week.
It seems that this sim tray is not good at all...
Bad News! The Galaxy S connector is different from the Nexus S one. Look at the picture:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
I believe that the guy who changed it, changed only the sim part, keeping the "sim board" the same... I don't know how to do it, I will try to find out, if anyone know, please help me.
if you read the post carefully, the guy did say sim tray, you can use most sim tray, as long as the pins are position 3+3 at each sides, but you must know how to solder/desolder.
Do you know how do I do it ? I know how to solder/desolder, but I don't know exactly what should I do.
Here is a picture of the Galaxy S Sim Tray. Should I desolder this points marked by the red arrow (and off course in the oposite side) and sold it to the Nexus S board ? Is the sim tray just fixed by this solded points ?
Hey guys,
I've been struggling with my N1 power button for a while now until in August it finally failed and my device wouldn't turn on anymore.
Since I bought my phone in Germany I hesitated to send it in. Not HTC is responsible for the warranty, but the seller himself. Anyway, I mailed them, sent it in, but they denied to repair it. They said some bull***t about me braking the camera. So I talked to legal protection insurance and they asked me whether I'd prefere to sue the trader or if I want to get 220 Euro back from them instead (because obviously suing would be much more cost intensiv for the insurance then paying 220 Euro). So I decided to take the money and either buy a new phone or try to fix the power button myself. And that's what I did.
I dissembled the phone and tried to solder the broken connections following this (http://youtu.be/k74D4dGGf4U) awesome guide myself. I do not have a lot of experience with stuff like this but I thought since I had already gotten the money "back" and the phone was not working I could at least try.
I did try and I did break the rest of the power button. So know I am not sure what to do. I see two options and very much would like other users comments on what I should do.
Try to sell the other components (screen, battery, logic board) and buy a new phone.
Replace the entire board with the camera, the led and the power button.
Ad 1.) Where would you sell the components? Ebay? Any other specific website?
And also, can you suggest phones to consider. I haven't followed the "android market" for a couple of months since it was not clear what would happen to my N1. I could buy a new N1 for about 210 Euro. Or a Nexus S for about 200. Are there any new phones that can compete with the nexus one in terms of openness, processing power, battery life & built quality? Or is the N1 still the best deal (especially for that price, I don't want to spend much more then the 220 Euro, I just got back).
Ad 2.) I've looked online, there are plenty of sources to replace the board with the flex cable ribbon. They range from 17 to about 70 Dollar. The difference seems to be that the ones are without camera, while the others come with a new camera.
Since my camera was working just fine I was wondering if it's possible to use my camera on another motherboard (I think that's the adequate name of the board I am talking about, right?). I couldn't find any reports online, but there is a spare part, which indicates, that it is very possible. Has anyone tried to replace a camera? Did it work? Is there a tutorial online?
Over all, I would very much prefere the second option. I have used my N1 only for roughly a year. I got the N1 dock. And over all, it would only cost about 30 bucks and a couple of hours. Also I would not have to buy a new phone and produce unnecessary technical waste.
So I'm very much looking forward to all your comments and help. For me that's a huge project. I haven't done hardware "hacking" before, so I will need all the help I can get.
Cheers, Armin
repair it.
Replacing the flex cable is not extremely difficult (medium diff.), and the chinese sellers in ebay will often bundle the tools required to open the N1's case.
By the way, the flex cable is not the mainboard, it's the cable that connects different modules (camera, led) and buttons (volume, power) to the mainboard, replace it, plug your camera and led modules to the new flex cable, make sure all connections are tight and your N1 will be as good as new!
I just repaired my N1, and I cannot tell you how awesome it felt when this little beast came back to life after months!
hey trschober,
thanx a lot for your reply. could you elaborate on how to switch the camera? it seems like it's only held in place by the bent metal. but i don't want to "force it out" since i dont want to break the camera (expensive).
does it come off easily?
also i didn't even know i could take off the led module. but now that i had a look at it it seems like i can just "pop off" the white rectangle.
awesome, i'm really excited right now!
well, i'll just order the part. we'll see how it goes.
I've never had to replace the camera, but from ifixit's pictures it is held in place by some sort of metal clip. There must be a place that you can push to get the camera module out without forcing it.
I can open my N1 on monday to check the proper way to unmount the camera module, but I doubt that you have to force it out, these electronic things don't work that way.
Yes, the led module just pops off, just be careful no to scratch the led itself, or the light will get blueish.
The hardest part of replacing the flex cable is popping off the bottom part of your N1, just use the proper _plastic_ tools to open it, or you will scratch the case. once you disconnect the connectors, the flex cable just slides upwards and out.
