Hello
I've been thinking about rooting my OnePlus 3T.
I remember rooting my Samsung Galaxy Y with an update package. Is there anything like that available for the OnePlus 3T?
It would be much easier to just do an update than flashing a custom recovery like TWRP.
Thanks in advance
Edit: I know how to root my phone but i'm looking for easier methods.
No, you have to flash proper zips via TWRP.
Flashing custom recovery is as easy as flashing zip, you just do it using a PC.
I recommend Magisk as root solution.

U need a PC with adb drivers and to unlock the bootloader first in order to flash a custom recovery and then to root.

I had rooted my K3 note by replacing the stock recovery with TWRP with the help of SP Flash tools and installing SuperSU.
Recently the Marshmallow OTA update rolled out for the Indian K3 Note. However, when I try installing it, the phone simply reboots without updating. Going through the forums, I believe that this is due to the absence of the stock recovery which seems to be required for installing the update.
I also believe that if I try manually flashing the OTA update zip through TWRP, it'll probably fail, since this is what most people have attempted to do so have experienced.
So how do I go about installing the OTA update now? Do I have to reinstall the stock recovery or is there a workaround via TWRP? If I do have to unroot and install stock recovery, how do I go about it? I don't want to go through the hassles of unrooting my phone to install this update, neither do I want to apply any unofficial ROMs such as the cuoco92 one.
Suggest me some solutions guys..
Thanks in advance

Have you tried doing the same? Won't that require the phone to be unrooted?

Stop spreading misinformation mate, if you don't know what you're talking about. I've spent the whole evening looking through the internet regarding my query where all of them say that the OTA update only works with stock recovery. Flashing the official OTA update with TWRP will most definitely not work.
There is no definitive article or post which explains how to do it with a rooted phone and custom recovery, which is what I'm looking for.

Hello Gentlemen,
I've recently got a OP3T running OOS 4.1.6 and i've been wanting to unlock the bootloader and root it. I've done my bit of a research and i'm little confused on what version of TWRP and SuperSU should i be using ? Do i still need to do the DM-Vertity bit? I'm considering just flashing:
TWRP: twrp-3.1.1-2-oneplus3t.img
SuperSU: SuperSU-v2.82-201705271822.zip
Would anyone be kind enough to point me to the latest guide for OP3T for OOS 4.1.6 ? Apologies,if this has been asked before.
Thanks!
Unlock your bootloader with fastboot oem unlock, then flash this version of TWRP:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0pr-ZA5b-1peEVyVmpsbGZTbnM/view
Then you can flash either SuperSU: https://download.chainfire.eu/1113/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.82-20170528234214.zip
Or Magisk (which I'd personally reccomend): http://tiny.cc/latestmagisk

Could you link me to the TWRP you found? And I didn't have to flash dm-verity disabler while flashing it on my 3T with 4.1.6. Just be aware that all personal data is lost when the bootloader is unlocked.

I'm not sure of the exact differences, but I think the blu_spark one I sent you might have fixed the dm-verity issues. I know that the one I sent you has no problems with dm-verity, so I'd go with that one just to be safe. There seem to be a lot of people bricking their phones by flashing the wrong one and I know this one works because I just flashed it yesterday.

I got my phone 1 week ago and I just followed the guide here.

It seems quite straightforward.
Can't see what seems not clear for you.

Typically, you want to use the latest files available. So in this case, yes that would be TWRP 3.1.1-2 and SuperSU 2.82 (or alternately Magisk 13.3, totally a matter of preference SuperSU versus Magisk).
There are some cases, where a new version may have some bugs. But I haven't heard of any of these particular versions.
Using versions that are a little bit older may still work. But anything that is too old, will sometimes cause problems. Especially when Android versions have changed, root methods updated, etc.
Thanks folks, i've unlocked the bootloader and rooted it. After flashing the recovery it was asking me for the password and it couldn't access the internal storage. I flashed dm verity and Magisk via sideload though.
Now, I'm wondering what ROM do i try ? I'm looking at Freedom OS + Franco / ElementalX. I need a OOS based rom with a good battery backup. Any suggestions would be appreciated
Hello guys. I have problem rooting my phone.
I can install TWRP but root doesn't work. I tried rooting with all methods and installing rooted ROMs. Right now I am on pixel experience ROM and it won't install rooted. BL is unlocked and I tried all methods to root. I have TWRP 3.4.0.0.
Any idea?

It is possible that it is rooted but Magisk Manager might not be showing up, I suggest downloading Magisk Manager APK and see what the manager says.
I just got a 4 XL running Android 11 feb patch, i'm planning to unlock it and install Cleanslate so i can get rid of the annoying greentint in low brightness. im not new to rooting/custom roms/kernels but the last device i tinker was oneplus 6 and mi 9t pro. i did some research and i see a lot of ways rooting like patching the boot.img
im wondering if i can still do the old method were i just flash everything using twrp to obtain root, update to latest security patch ( i wanted to stay on stock firmware) and just reflash kernel and magisk. or am i required to do all those "patch boot.img" steps to obtain root on stock?
i feel so noob now. lol any help will greatly be appreciated

No TWRP for Android 11. You have to patch boot.img and fastboot flash it.

Just follow one of the guides is your best bet. Magisk is pretty user friendly for patching your own boot.img. There is a thread that keeps up with pre-patched boot.img files but you are better off getting proficient with adb/fastboot and patching your own.
[Guide] Root Pixel 4 XL Android 11 (R)
Went there, rooted that, ordered the t-shirt. [/ wink & grin]
I haven't done rooting in a while (uh, Samsung S7 while). NTL, I actually followed the guide (gasp!!) and it all worked first time out.
Not much to say after that.
Hello, how do I root my new phone, Xiaomi Redmi 9T? I'm a beginner, please give thorough instructions on how to install TWRP and install EU rom. I know that I can search but I want to be sure. Everyone in this device forum seems to be rooted which confuses me. Is there a universal way to root all xiaomi phones? And give Gcam too, thank you for anyone who helps!
i think everyone using same method here,
[Guide] [Stable] xiaomi.eu Ad free Builds installation
As Redmi as usual messes up naming convention, we ended up having three names for same device - Redmi Note 9 4G (CN), Redmi 9T (EU) and Redmi 9 Power (IN) I had spent a day on best way to remove ads in our device and ended up reinstalling ROM...

how thorough do you expect im not sure...

The best root method I have used is Magisk, if you are using the stock ROM, you can install it by patching boot.img, you need to unlock bootloader first.
You can extract the original boot.img from the fastboot ROM tgz package.
If you are using a custom ROM and TWRP, you can flash the zip package in TWRP.

With Magisk installed, I think you can't update the system directly, I think you have to unroot first.
You can read the information about it here.
