Hi
I am in Kolkata India and recently switched from a 2G to a 3G plan with Vodafone Kolkata. Ever since then, my problem is that I am unable to connect to 3G using WCDMA. Neither voice nor data works. If I revert to GSM only, then voice and 2G works fine. Wifi has been fine and my saviour at home.
Phone details: Sony Xperia SP C5302 running Android 4.3 build 12.1.A.1.205.
I have confirmed with network service that it is not a SIM card issue, by carrying out the foll. tests already
1- Signal strength in the area of use : At the time when I am unable to connect to 3G, my colleague sitting in the next desk and using a Motorola phone is consistently able to connect to the same 3G network from his phone. So the network strength must be fine.
2- SIM damaged or dirty - I have obtained a new SIM card as replacement, after this problem started, from my service provider yesterday. But the problem is not resolved.
3- Manual network search and connection - I have tried this many times, using WCDMA only or WCDMA(Preferred) options. In either case, only on rare occasions, the phone was able to connect to a network. However, 3G data connection (H+ icon) did not show and then the phone disconnects from network. On most occasions, when I manually attempt to connect to the 3G network, I get the message "Could not register to the selected network. Make sure SIM is inserted."
3- Trying different SIM/Handset - I have tried out both options of switching SIM and handset.
- My SIM on Motorola handset - connects to H+
- Another SIM on my Sony - momentarily connects, then disconnects and then does not connect to network.
Please let me know if anyone has faced similar issues and found any resolution. Thank you in advance.

I think that there's an option to use 2G instead of 3G in the settings menu, have you checked to see if that is enabled?

That is the WCDMA option I've mentioned about, there was no other setting for this.
Anyways, it turned out to be a hardware problem. Got the "mother-board" replaced for free as it was under warranty & now working fine!

Good to see that you've sorted out the problem!
Hi, I realized that when I turn off the 4G network data the phone changes to 3G, then if I turn on data again it turns 4G on after 20 seconds.
I had tried to use the *#*#4636#*#* method and put "LTE only", it works, but after I turn off data again the setting returns to GSM.
Other phones have 4G network ON don't matter if data is on or off.
There's a way to force 4G network all the time like the other phones have?
Well, like no one has the answer, I had found a workaround:
The app Intelli3g is the answer!
Hi all,
I have a Note 5 N920C. My country use 2G and 3G network.
I go to setting > Mobile Network > Network Mode, select 3G/2G auto connect (or LTE/3G/2G auto connect).
When 3G sign weak, My device don't auto switch to 2G Mode. So, When i go to places that have very weak 3G signal, I can not make a Call or Receive a Call because 3G no have any bar, but device don't switch it to 2G.
I'm sad, because each time so I had to switch manually to 2G Only Mode.
Please help me!
Thanks!
Whenever I turn on the Wifi on my Nokia 8 and connect to any wifi hotspot whilst my phone is on 3G UMTS, the 'Mobile network type' under SIM status (found in About phone -> Status) would show 'IWLAN'. My mobile signal app (Network Signal Info by Kaibits) would not show any network mode.
I must note that I have no trouble receiving or making calls on 3G whilst leaivng Wifi on. However, I do not have VoWifi (Voice over Wifi) enabled, and Telstra (my carrier) does not support VoWifi on the Nokia 8.
What's happening here?
I have this behavior as well. I assumed that the modem is kicking down to the lower speed data network to save power. As soon as I turn WiFi off, it switches back to the faster data network.
how do i force 4g+ / LTE advanced connection on this phone? such that whenever i turn on my mobile data it connects to 4g+ automatically and stays connected and doesn't fall back to 4g network?
reason for this is : my phone connects to 4g network and i get 1-2Mbps speed. With 4g+ i get 15-20Mbps but i have to restart my phone to connect to 4g+ network. So it gets annoying having to restart the phone again and again just so to connect to 4g+

Dial *#*#4636#*#* and go to phone information and choose LTE only from list.
Hi
4636 not working for realme (not for me) but xiaomi phones. Download 4g switcher from playstore. It looks like the hidden menu in xiaomi phones.
