hello guys, hope you can help me here.
so as per title say, i got error when installing magisk manager 5.6.4, app not installed.
have try with older version but got same problem.
before this, i tried to upgrade system from nougat to oreo. successful with flashable roms.
at nougat, i got magisk manager, but couple steps to upgrade they recommended to remove magisk, so i use magisk uninstaller. and magisk gone for good.
after booting to oreo, i want to recover root, but cant even install magisk manager apk.
try to flash magisk 16.0, success with no problem.
now im very confuse. need help.
EDIT 1: and for some reason i cant install OTA. is this related?
Unfortunately I ran into the same problem. I tried installing Magisk Manager (5.6.3 and 5.6.4) on a stock, clean Nexus 6P but received that same error when running the app. I originally used ADB to install it and when that didn't produce the expected result I just used ADB to push the file to the device and then installed it manually. Neither method resulted in Magisk Manager running so I ended up having to install TWRP (which is what I was trying to avoid) and then flash the Magisk zip file. After that Magisk Manager ran successfully.
Too bad the documentation makes assumptions about everyone automatically understanding what is meant by 'install Magisk Manager'.

Hello,
is it possible to uninstall Magisk completely without using the Magisk Manager. Everytime i try to uninstall with the manager, it comes "error downloading file". Is there another simple way to do this?
Thanks

Hello, do you mean this file? https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/download/v17.3/Magisk-uninstaller-20181022.zip
I´m using Magisk v17.1 on Huawei P10
This won´t work for me in TWRP. After flashing i get an error like this:
!Cannot access /data , please uninstall with magisk manager
- Unmounting partitions.
Yeah that's the for, try updating Magisk first, then uninstalling it.

On my P10 it looks like the newest Version. Update isn't possible. Or is it a way to install an older version and then remove it?
Try flashing the uninstaller as you would a module not in the Magisk repo (Modules section, "+"-button).
Thanks this worked fine. Problem solved.
Hi, I don't want to create a new thread because my problem is very similar.
I want to uninstall Magisk to be able to update my OP5. But however I am trying, it's not working. I tried flashing the uninstall.zip via TWRP first, tried the deinstall feature of the Magisk Manager and finally tried the method mentioned above. None of them worked. I restart my phone and Magisk is still installed. It needs to update and reinstall the manager but my phone is still rooted. I don't know what to do. Magisk Manager is/was up to date and I even restored a TWRP backup just in case I did some mistakes during the uninstallation.
Can anyone help me with that?

There's a bug in the Magisk v19.1 uninstaller. It's been fixed upstream, so try using the Canary uninstaller instead: https://github.com/topjohnwu/magisk_files/raw/master/canary_builds/magisk-uninstaller.zip

Looks like it worked. My phone is not rooted anymore and I could update without a problem. Thanks a lot
Works great on Nougat 7.1.1
Thanks
Hi There,
I met some issues when I tried to flash the Magisk zip to my MIX2S.
Phone MIX 2S
OS:MIUI 10.3 by xiaomi.eu 9.2.15
Recovery:TWRP
Situation:
Part 1, at the beginning, I flashed the xiaomi.eu rom to my MIX 2S, and then flashed magisk zip file, everything works well except sometime the saftynet check will fail. After I check the post of saftypatcher , I changed to ianmacd mod. Everything seems fine until then. I need to re-flash the magisk official zip every time after I update my phone, and than update magisk to ianmacd mod in magisk manager.
Part 2,
Today I updated my rom to MIUI 10.3 by xiaomi.eu 9.2.22, I then re-flash the official magisk zip as usual, and then updated to ianmacd mod in magisk manager. I re-boot the phone, then it reboot to recovery when I tried to input my pin. Reboot again, still went to the recovery. So I use ianmacd uninstaller to uninstall the magisk, and tried to flash the official zip. The phone booted into the system, but when I open the magisk manger, it shows that mangisk is not installed. I reflashed again, still the same issue.
I uninstalled the manger, tried to install the offical manger apk file, told the app was not installed.
I downgrade my system to MIUI 10.3 by xiaomi.eu 9.2.15, reflash the offical 18.1 zip file, reboot, no magisk manger on my phone, tried to install the apk file, still failed.
I boot into the recovery to uninstall and install again, still no manger in the system. Now I'm totally lost.
Part 3, some of my app tells me that my phone is rooted, so I guess the magisk is in somewhere of my system?
Attached is the recovery log.
Thank you in advance. Sorry for my English.
You've been mixing Managers with different signatures (the official with unofficial)...
Try this:

Thank you very much for the help. It fixed my issue.
Now I need to investigate the "boot to recovery" issue.
First of all, I have very limited android experience but I need too root my phone for the functionality of an app that's critical to my business. Anyways, I'm running a Moto x4 with Pie. I already installed magisk 17.3 and magisk manager 6.0.1 using twrp recovery following a tutorial on youtube. When opening the magisk manager, it asked me to update to 7.1.1, which I did. Then it told me that I needed at least v18.0 magisk to be able to run the new magisk manager. Am I able to update magisk by flashing the new zip version in twrp, or is another method required since a prior version is already installed? Is this how I would install all future versions of magisk that comes out? Is there anything that I should know before flashing? I really don't want to get stuck in a boot loop or brick the phone.... Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

You can update it from Magisk and as well as from TWRP...

First of all: backup! Then you can bootloop, brick (or not!) with no worries. Do it with twrp.
Download latest (beta) Magisk 19.0, flash it under twrp and be happy.
Just to add to the above....
Since you're already rooted you don't have to flash the zip in TWRP. Just go to the Magisk Manager Modules section, click the "+"-button and select the Magisk zip. When it's done, reboot and you're updated.

If it's in the manager app, I'm not sure how to do it because it says that I can't open it with anything <v18.0.

You could of course uninstall the incompatible Manager and reinstall the one that works with your Magisk version.
But, that's now besides the point.
A day when you learn something new is a good day. :good:
If you want to learn more, here's a trivia [emoji14]
Also install "Magisk Manager for Recovery Mode (mm)" module. Not promoting it, but I myself feel it's a good module that you need to have before playing with Magisk Modules
It allows you to manage Magisk Modules from TWRP itself. So next time you run into a bootloop, you know what to do

I currently have installed Magisk v18.1 and Magisk Manager 7.1.2. Both have updates. I've read the forums and some people have reported boot loops and I just don't want to deal with any of that. So did anyone update to the latest Magisk and Magisk Manager with any problems? Did you just press the "update" button within Magisk Manager or did you have to modify/compile it somehow? Which one do I update first or do I update them both at the same time? Details are always appreciated. ?
I just used the zip file and updated it through TWRP and the Manager is just updated via an apk.
I don't have TWRP installed. At the time I rooted my RP2 there wasn't a proven way to install TWRP at least that I could find. Is there one now?
I'm just talking about installing the updates through Magisk. But having TWRP that could perform a nand and data backup would put me at ease. Where is the guide to install TWRP?
The arter97 kernel has it built in.
Hello,
I have rooted my GPlay and installed TWRP.
Unfortunately my banking app detects the root and refuses to work.
I heard about Magisk which can be used to bypass this.
Can anyone tell me where to get this for my GPlay and how to install it?
I have TWRP 2.8.7.0 hw4c installed and SuperSU Free v2.68 (SuperSU-v2.68-SYSTEMMODE.zip)
Phone:
Model: CHC-U01
EMUI 4.0 Android 6
I've downloaded the Magisk App and try to install. But get this error:
Installation failed
Boot Image patched by unsupported programs
Please restore back to stock boot image
That error message tells you exactly what you need to do... You need to first remove SuperSU. After that you might be able to install Magisk, but you might need to use the patch boot image method, since that TWRP could be a bit too old.
But, even if you get Magisk installed it's not certain that you'll be able to circumvent your banking app's root detection. There are ways of detecting root that Magisk cannot hide. But, you've certainly got a better chance with Magisk than with SuperSu... You'll find some root hiding tips here:
https://www.didgeridoohan.com/magisk/MagiskHide#hn_Hiding_root_from_apps
Ok. I forget about Magisk.
Thanks to you Didgeridoohan and jwoegerbauer.
