Hello,
is it possible to uninstall Magisk completely without using the Magisk Manager. Everytime i try to uninstall with the manager, it comes "error downloading file". Is there another simple way to do this?
Thanks

Hello, do you mean this file? https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/download/v17.3/Magisk-uninstaller-20181022.zip
I´m using Magisk v17.1 on Huawei P10
This won´t work for me in TWRP. After flashing i get an error like this:
!Cannot access /data , please uninstall with magisk manager
- Unmounting partitions.
Yeah that's the for, try updating Magisk first, then uninstalling it.
Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
On my P10 it looks like the newest Version. Update isn't possible. Or is it a way to install an older version and then remove it?
Try flashing the uninstaller as you would a module not in the Magisk repo (Modules section, "+"-button).
Thanks this worked fine. Problem solved.
Hi, I don't want to create a new thread because my problem is very similar.
I want to uninstall Magisk to be able to update my OP5. But however I am trying, it's not working. I tried flashing the uninstall.zip via TWRP first, tried the deinstall feature of the Magisk Manager and finally tried the method mentioned above. None of them worked. I restart my phone and Magisk is still installed. It needs to update and reinstall the manager but my phone is still rooted. I don't know what to do. Magisk Manager is/was up to date and I even restored a TWRP backup just in case I did some mistakes during the uninstallation.
Can anyone help me with that?

There's a bug in the Magisk v19.1 uninstaller. It's been fixed upstream, so try using the Canary uninstaller instead: https://github.com/topjohnwu/magisk_files/raw/master/canary_builds/magisk-uninstaller.zip

After installing the magisk as I was rooted, I installed 2-3 mods ie flashed in twrp but after I rebooted my root is gone. Magisk manager is showing not rooted and when I re flashed supersu in twrp, installation was successful but still no root. What happened I don't know. Also I didn't install any phh supersu or busybox. Please help me regain my root.
HELP
It was a known bug in Magisk that you would lose root.
Magisk
v10.2
- [Magic Mount] Remove apps/priv-app from whitelist, should fix all crashes
- [phh] Fix binary out-of-date issue

So i'd make sure you flashed the latest version ? Pretty sure you have but if not might be worth flashing supersu then magisk over it again as it should recognise supersu and not modify it.

No I didn't flash anything. It was an automatic process which installed magisk and prompted me that installation success and reboot. Then I rebooted and root was gone
Now should I run magisk unstaller zip in twrp followed by supersu and then again flash magisk v10. 2 via twrp.. Should I follow these steps to gain my root again.. Anyone please help. I'm stuck @brichardson1991
Try installing PHH superuser from play store.
I had a similar experience. Having to reflash stock now to try a different tact. I'd rather use SuperSU to be honest, rather than PHH superuser.
Same problem here, have to investigate whats going on.

yeah flashing the stock rom was the only viable option i think .
I have the same problem with latest magisk. After i installed mods root is gone and i can not root again. Only with supersu i have root. Magisk is very bugy.
Yeah it does appear the latest version now causes you to lose supersu
Same problem with me, on the OP3 running Open Beta 11. Reflashing SuperSU did not work. Rather than extract the boot.img to reflash that, I ended up reflashing the firmware (and ended up mistakenly using the 4.0.1 file instead of the OPB11 one!) ... Yet to try SuperSU and Magisk again on this, but figured better to investigate the issue before I attempt to reinstall.
From what I understand here, v10 won't have this problem, and its only on v11 that its cropped up again? Can anybody with v10 confirm this?
Hello
Okay i flashed my mobile with new OTA
after i try to install magisk but getting error that "Magisk manager stopped" after zip downloaded
i dont know why that happening
after zip downloaded getting black window then pop up shown about error
i think it cant patch boot img properly
in my old rom it works properly, but after flashing it did not work
thank you....
Try installing it in recovery
I sometimes get that majisk stopped toast on just about any ROM and just about any majisk release. I just ignore it. I have no idea of the what or why. Haven't noticed it affecting anything.
Yes. It's happening to me too. Does it work if I flash this update with twrp?

Having the exact same issue on a pixel xl. Tried on 7.1 and 8.1, both with the same result.
I never use manager. Always TWRP, and can people start searching and using the support thread for questions, logs, and bugs instead of keep making a hundred useless threads of the same thing, can't install, can't install modules, etc. That's what support thread for. Thanks.

No, i am flashing from start
I just flash new miui (full wipe, factory reset)
and i also try to update from Magisk manager but when the flash screen appear, magisk manager force close (I already tried to clear data of Magisk manager and tried to update again but no success)
Now i can have root with Magisk 14.0 but when i tried to update to 15.2 using TWRP, it just disappear lol
(Flashing normally, no error, restart phone, go to magisk manager -> magisk is not installed )
hello guys, hope you can help me here.
so as per title say, i got error when installing magisk manager 5.6.4, app not installed.
have try with older version but got same problem.
before this, i tried to upgrade system from nougat to oreo. successful with flashable roms.
at nougat, i got magisk manager, but couple steps to upgrade they recommended to remove magisk, so i use magisk uninstaller. and magisk gone for good.
after booting to oreo, i want to recover root, but cant even install magisk manager apk.
try to flash magisk 16.0, success with no problem.
now im very confuse. need help.
EDIT 1: and for some reason i cant install OTA. is this related?
Unfortunately I ran into the same problem. I tried installing Magisk Manager (5.6.3 and 5.6.4) on a stock, clean Nexus 6P but received that same error when running the app. I originally used ADB to install it and when that didn't produce the expected result I just used ADB to push the file to the device and then installed it manually. Neither method resulted in Magisk Manager running so I ended up having to install TWRP (which is what I was trying to avoid) and then flash the Magisk zip file. After that Magisk Manager ran successfully.
Too bad the documentation makes assumptions about everyone automatically understanding what is meant by 'install Magisk Manager'.

First of all, I have very limited android experience but I need too root my phone for the functionality of an app that's critical to my business. Anyways, I'm running a Moto x4 with Pie. I already installed magisk 17.3 and magisk manager 6.0.1 using twrp recovery following a tutorial on youtube. When opening the magisk manager, it asked me to update to 7.1.1, which I did. Then it told me that I needed at least v18.0 magisk to be able to run the new magisk manager. Am I able to update magisk by flashing the new zip version in twrp, or is another method required since a prior version is already installed? Is this how I would install all future versions of magisk that comes out? Is there anything that I should know before flashing? I really don't want to get stuck in a boot loop or brick the phone.... Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

First of all: backup! Then you can bootloop, brick (or not!) with no worries. Do it with twrp.
Download latest (beta) Magisk 19.0, flash it under twrp and be happy.
Just to add to the above....
Since you're already rooted you don't have to flash the zip in TWRP. Just go to the Magisk Manager Modules section, click the "+"-button and select the Magisk zip. When it's done, reboot and you're updated.

You could of course uninstall the incompatible Manager and reinstall the one that works with your Magisk version.
But, that's now besides the point.
A day when you learn something new is a good day. :good:
If you want to learn more, here's a trivia [emoji14]
Also install "Magisk Manager for Recovery Mode (mm)" module. Not promoting it, but I myself feel it's a good module that you need to have before playing with Magisk Modules
It allows you to manage Magisk Modules from TWRP itself. So next time you run into a bootloop, you know what to do

Hey guys,
I rooted my phone several weeks ago for the first time via odin and everything went fine. I installed TWRP and Magisk and everything worked out.
Today I was trying to update Magisk from v20.x to v21.x with the inapp option, but now im stuck in a bootloop to download mode, screen says "Downloading... do not turn off target".
Even if I turn the phone off with Power + Home + Vol Down its just restarting right away and getting stuck in the same screen again.
Im still able to enter TWRP Recovery, but I dont know what to do to end the download mode problem when trying to start the phone.
I actually dont know/understand much about that stuff, so I dont know which other info I need to provide.
Is there something I could do without going through the whole flash/root process again?
should i try to delete magisk and install it again? if yes, how do i do it?
Help would be appreciated.

I don't know much about your device but if you can enter TWRP, it's not that bad. First what you can try is to download Magisk uninstaller and flash it in TWRP from USB. However, I don't know what can you do to update Magisk safely. Would be best if you can check your device forum or ask the question there

Its probably not possible to just install a Magisk version again and overwrite the current one, probably need to uninstall first and then install it again?
There is a Magisk Module Uninstaller and a Magisk Uninstaller. Are those different things or just the same?

How to Uninstall Magisk From Android [2 Easiest Method]
Are you facing issues with Magisk? You can uninstall magisk from your phone with these simple and easy steps.
magiskmanager.com
Because the 2nd guide says in the end
Keep in Mind – Whenever you use TWRP as a method to uninstall Magisk, it is imperative to flash the Magisk Module Uninstaller Zip onto your device.
Does this mean I need to do the magisk module one first?
@n00btuber Do not trust those websites. They're in no way official and are just trying to get adc revenue from Magisk's popularity. If you're really unlucky they'll also provide you with malicious zips...
Only download stuff from John's GitHub:
https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk
If you need to uninstall Magisk use the uninstall zips from the above linked Github repo, and if you need to uninstall modules (but those will also be removed by the Magisk uninstaller) you can do that directly from TWRP:
https://www.didgeridoohan.com/magisk/Magisk#hn_Uninstalldeletedisable_modules_from_recovery
A lot of times you can just flash another Magisk version over your installed one, but there are times where you do need to uninstall first. Since you have TWRP it can't really hurt to just try flashing whatever Magisk zip you want and it it doesn't work you can just use the uninstaller first.
One other thing to try would be the Canary release, mainly to see if you're affected by any bugs that is present in the current stable release but has been fixed upstream. You'll find the Canary app in the same Github link above.

Trying to flash it leads to

I think it says Unsupported/Unknown image format
Your TWRP might be bugged/incompatible. I'd reflash your stock boot image and then patch the file manually (you'll find the instructions for that on GitHub as well).

Does anyone know what is going on between Magisk and Google? It seems Google has removed Magisk Manager from the Play Store AGAIN! What's more, I downloaded and installed the apk but when I try to use it to install the latest Magisk the install fails. Tried installing the Magisk zip via TWRP, and while it doesn't show any errors, I still don't have root.
Ok I really need some more help @Didgeridoohan
Meanwhile I tried to reinstall TWRP from within TWRP. There was no error so I think it should have worked, but didnt solve the problem.
As soon as I try to boot the system it directly boots download mode and gets stuck in it. The volume buttons wont work or do anything as they are supposed in download mode.
Im still able to get into TWRP, but I still dont know what to do to stop this crashed download mode that starts over and over again.
When trying to flash the magisk uninstall it states "cannot access /data", when trying to flash a magisk installer it states "unsupported/unknown image format"
I dont care about Magisk right now though, I can root and install magisk again as soon as im able to clear the download mode problem. I was just trying this because trying to update magisk from within magisk manager has caused this download mode problem to appear.
Just tell me please how to fix that or how to factory reset my phone so it is able to boot regular again.
Thank you

Sounds to me like you need to reflash your ROM, not TWRP. According to your OP, you're running Android 7, but it doesn't say if it is stock or a custom ROM.. If it is stock, then use Frija.exe to download the ROM and then flash th AP, BL and HOME_CSC md5 files with Odin. If it is a custom ROM, use TWRP to flash the ROM and gapps. DO NOT try to flash Magisk. Right now there seems to be a problem with Google disabling Magisk. Wait till it is resolved before attempting to get root.
@n00btuber Dirty flashing your ROM is most likely the way to go, just like described above.
But @lewmur, what do you mean by "Google disabling Magisk"? If you're talking about SafetyNet there are ways around that (and it doesn't affect root)...

I not talking about safety net. Look in Play Store for Magisk Manager. It is no longer there. And even if you download and install the apk, it won't install Magisk. Flashing Magisk from TWRP doesn't give root privileges. This just happened yesterday.

That 's my mistake. Play Store would put up a lot of "Magisk Manager" stuff, but I never really tried any of it because flashing Magisk would give me the Manager. But even that "stuff" no longer shows up.
Butt Magisk Manager still won't install Magisk. It will download the zip file, but when it attemps to install it, it get an error saying Unsupported/Unknown image format. If I flash it from TWRP, and then open Magisk Manager, it still says N/A under Installed for Magisk.

That will be an incompatibility between Magisk and your device and has nothing to do with Google (blame your OEM for doing weird stuff instead).
