I have a sprint galaxy tab I bought just to use with wifi, but I see cell bars on top and I dont want it using the cell radio at all since I wont ever be using it and need to conserve battery, anyway to shut off completely?
I cant do airplane mode because I need WiFi on
Take the SIM card out of it.
Otherwise turn packet data off & lock the radio to GSM only, uses very little power then.
3G no mas
I have/had the same issue. The other annoying aspect is that if you haven't activated the 3G, it attempts to FOREVER at every boot. I suggest Airplane mode. After you put the tab in Airplane mode, you can manually turn WiFi on, and not have to deal with the search for service you don't want taking up yer juice. That's at least what I did. I know there are other options for rooted tabs, but I'm too scurrrred to root mine...
This will do it.

Wait..that's the jesusfreke verson of bypassing google activation.
He wants to shut off the cell radio.

Uhmm just turn airplane mode on, wiat 5 seconds, then turn wifi on. you're good to go.
some people don't get that the sprint GT is CDMA and don't have neither sim card nor APN.
I'm in the same situation, using the sprint GT as wifi-only in airplane mode.

I tried airplane mode before, but when it killed the wifi (as I expected), I started searching... I had searched all over for this simple procedure with no success until now.
I had recently purchased this Sprint tab under the description of being a wifi only. When I received it and saw that it was a Sprint, I did not care at first, since I live in Canada, until the battery started being drained very quickly in my poor cell reception basement because the CDMA phone could detect a weak cell signal. I know that any other CDMA phone I had would use all its power to latch onto a weak signal.
Thank you very much.
Airplane mode turn off the cellular radios. Sim cards have nothing to do with it. Both GSM and CDMA are affected by airplane mode the same way.
It will turn your device into a wifi tab.
I just select airplane mode then re-select wifi on. This shuts off the 3G but lets you surf wifi.
Sam
The problem with the Airplane Mode is that it also turns off Bluetooth. For some reason, unlike wifi Bluetooth can not be turned back on individually while airplane mode is selected. Any ideas anyone???
I FOUND THE ANSWER!!!!! EasySwitch Pro
This is a fabulous app that allows COMPLETE and SEPARATE control of your wireless radios.
EasySwitch Pro by SMARTDYNE
Uses a very simple and effective widget to switch settings.
Works great on Samsung Galaxy Tab!!!

I'm not on my tab at the moment so I will do it from memory. For the data issue, if you hold down power, you will see a selection above airplane mode about something to do with data. Turn that off. When I was playing around with it I'm the past, you need to have the radio on (not airplane mode) in order for the GPS to lock. You can also, In settings, enable network location in the location section.
To get rid of the activation nag, note the icon in the notifications bar. See what it looks like? I used root explorer, rooted of course, to navigate to /system/app. Scroll down slowly until you see an apk that has the same green circle with a check mark inside it. Enter rw mode with root explorer. Add .old to the end of the filename. Reboot. No more nag. If you delete it, you cannot update to gingerbread. It needs to be running to get the update. You can disable it later. You also lose all update functions in the about my galaxy tab section.
I use Widgetsoid2.x it allows me to go airplane, enable/disable 3G, wifi, GPS and more. Can get it in Market.

Sigh, you have it wrong. Turn on Airplane mode, go back into Settings and turn on WiFi and Bluetooth. Simple as that.
The ONLY way you can't turn on Bluetooth in Airplane mode is from the drop down slider thingy in Android. If you go into Settings, you can turn on Bluetooth in Airplane mode.
whats up?
Still wishin to kill cell-radio-app =) Any new ideas except the airplane mode?
ps:GPS and Bluetooth don't work in this mode..
I tried selecting airplane mode and then turning back on WiFi. However, Galaxy Tab is still trying to activate the Sprint account I do not have or want to get.
use titanium.

Sprint Activate message disappear on my tab. You must be rooted to use titanium app.

I own a Note 3 N900A ATT and it will not connect to any network or see them ´, it seems to be blind.
My phone is not rooted yet, does it have anything to do with it?
Help
You do not have to be rooted to connect to WiFi. You might have to manually connect to Wi-Fi or do a factory reset.

Or you might have a phone with a bad wifi radio.
If you have a wifi router running in your house and you turn wifi on (on the phone), you should see the signal from the router within 5 seconds.
(Of course if there are no wifi routers in the vicinity you won't see any signals. You have to provide the wifi signal, the carrier doesn't. Some people think it just comes with the phone service.)

Do you have wireless internet? Is the WiFi on your phone actually turned on?
I have this problem too. Glad to see you are unrooted and stock. I had deleted many .apk's and thought it was something I did.
Just get an app from the play store to fix it for the time being.

thanx i did a factory reset and it started "seeing" all networks available :good:
wifi
Factory reset is a pain on the neck, I solved this issue by turning flight mode on, the restarting and as the phone restarts on flight mode I turned the wifi on and it sees everything now. give it a try :fingers-crossed:

Didn't work..
I'm having an issue where my phone loses connection, both data and voice, at random times but it only happens at work. I've never had coverage issues with any other phone, and neither do coworkers. Our wifi is horrible, so I usually have it disabled (this issue happens even if I'm on wifi), and I've disabled Smart Network Switch to keep it from trying to connect.
Ive tried toggling data, toggling airplane mode, but the only fix is to restart the device. That works, but I can't afford to miss a call or text if I haven't restarted my phone recently.
The only thing I can think is to get a new SIM card, and if nothing else, factory reset. Any other ideas that might be easier? Maybe I'm forgetting a setting?
I'm happy I found this thread. I thought the problem was only with me. I'm having the same exact issue and only at work too where there's no WiFi.

Can I ask where you work?
My data/voice issues have stopped, but now I have no incoming texts. Outgoing texts work, calls work, data works, but I receive all of my texts batched together up to six hours after the fact.
Rebooted, cleared messaging app data, pulled SIM card, booted into safe mode, and even called VZW technical support to no avail.
Going to try a factory data reset tonight, but I doubt it will be the fix.

I had similar issues and resolved the problem by getting a new SIM card

Ended up not being a phone issue. The data was SIM related but the texting was something to do with the feature on my line.
(5.1.1) I was on wifi at home. I headed out and have been on mobile data for most of the day. I went for a coffee and my wifi won't work. Tried turning the phone off and airplane mode.
When I click Wifi it says it's on with no networks available. I click More settings and it says Turning Wifi on, but doesn't.
I'd rather not reset the phone, any ideas? Thanks.
yea, reboot your phone.

I had that symptom once, while waiting in a doctor's office. Shutting down and booting back up solved it, but this was a few OTA builds ago (i.e., I'm currently stock, lazy me).
Perhaps delete/forget your current WiFi connections and retry?

My connections don't even show up. I'm gonna let the battery run flat and then try... if not, then reset phone.
I let my battery die, my phone turned itself off after about 4% remaining. 10 hours later and when you hit the power button , it shows the low battery warning, but won't turn on.
So, the battery wasn't completely dead. I needed my phone, I plug it in to charge... And WiFi!!!!!!
Just updated to lmy48m... no wifi again. YAY!!! <_<
I'm having this exact problem w/ my WiFi, and I'm now suddenly getting the "!" appearing ever since updating to LMY48M.
i've been having this problem with build LYZ28J & LYZ28K randomly wifi would stop working. i'd reboot my phone and it would work again then it stoped, so i called Tmo got a replacement this time it took a few days and happened again this time i called Google and they called Motorola they had me wipe cache while i was on build LYZ28J and it worked... then i got the LYZ28K update then 3 days later this morning wifi stoped working again. So i figured doing a cache wipe would work again, but it didn't so i backed up everything and booted into recovery and wiped the phone thinking it would work but that did... still shows Wi-Fi toggle off and says turning on Wi-Fi. Called Tmo again they told me to take it to astore anfd get it diagnosed but im going to call google and see whats up. anyone have any luck getting this fixed ?
I'm also having this problem. Stock 5.1.1
Well I get my replacement phone today let's see if this issue happens I'm going to set it up as a new device.
I had the same problem. I've had pretty terrific success disabling Google Connectivity Service, which I think is somehow related to Project Fi. I went into apps, force stop, disable. Since then, I haven't had to reboot my phone. Before that, I was rebooting, toggling airplane mode, etc.
It's not 100% better though. I have had to toggle airplane a few times. But it's been much less frequent than before.
Suddenly happened today, probably the second time ever. No WiFi saved networks, couldn't locate signals, etc.
Rebooted the phone, everything fine again.
Odd.

I can not connect at all to my work's wifi where I have to enter my AD username and password, just can't connect. It worked mostly fine before Andorid 6.0
It is flaky on regular WPA2 wifi too at home, sometimes have to toggle the wifi or even reboot.
Wifi on the Nexus with Android 6.0 is poor to junk basically.
I've been having trouble connecting to the tmobile network. I can do it through wifi and make call through wifi-calling. But when I'm out it says network not available.
When I reboot the phone I manage to connect for a few seconds and then I lose it. Tried the Airplane Mode on and off thing but it didn't help.
When I go to *#0011# I get <No SVC> but when I went go to *#2263# it says that Airplane Mode is ON and that I need to turn it off to access that menu. Since Airplane mode is already off under settings then that's as far as i can go.
With my quick wit I thought, hey that's probably why I don't have any network connection, because the Stealth Airplane Mode is ON
So, what could be causing this dichotomy in between the service mode and the settings? Could it be that the ServiceMode is "concluding" that Airplane Mode is ON, but the problem is actually somewhere else? Like when Windows "help" tries to guess your problem but strikes out badly.
Is there another place that I can turn the Airplane Mode off, a different service code or some misbehaving google app?
On top of that, I got two s6 with problems. Most of the wifey's sensors are shot. But she can make phone calls so her problems will be dealt after mine. The funny stuff is that both started cranking out at about the same time, so unless this was a warranty time bomb, maybe our wireless chargers have something to do with it. Or not and I'm just being horribly unlucky right now, which is always a safe statement to make.
Anyone know how to turn Airplane Mode off besides Settings/AirplaneMode or the slide down thingy?
No Power Saving mode is enabled (but that doesn't mean nothing at this point).
Thanks
Sunofa whore... I been dealing with this **** all day. Then right after I posted here I decided to go look at all the menus in the Network area. And sure enough, under wifi-calling it was marked to "never use cellular network". This self changing selections on Android drives crazy. Thanks for thinking about helping me. Maybe I can find a setting on my wife's phone saying to disable all sensors....
