Preference for stock aosp - Huawei Mate 10 Guides, News, & Discussion

Thought I would post this thread as I wait for Huawei to supply my bootloader unlock code for the mate 10 pro. I'm looking for as close to stock android as possible (hate Huawei skin). What's your preference of rom?
Cheers

is it possible?

Okay some of you will have seen the meticulous made various builds, cyanogen 13, beanstalk 6.25 and lineage 14.1 for his p9 lite. The chipset is the Hi6250 exactly the same as the honor 5c. So these builds install and run just as well on either phone. Now my question is, could you install the latest p9 lite firmware(with emui 5 + nougat) on the 5c??? Obviously it won't be that simple and I guess you'll need to use his modified twrp recovery you flash it.
Does anyone know if this can be done and explain how??
That being said I have a little feeling of ill ease that I'm going to be ? shot down in flames for asking such a ridiculous question. Please be gentle(if you never ask questions you can never fully learn)
Thanks honorable people's
Hell no.
It is different with the CM builds - they are written for Hi6250 and the Huawei/Honor originals are made strictly for a product. You can't even use Nem-22 on Nem-21 because of the basebands and stuff.
If you want Nougat use tread by Schizmatyk.
I am on this Beta now and is actually nice
am i only one who thinks honor 7 lite is good even on android 6? sure emui 5 has better theme imo.

P20 Pro Stock Android

Hi guys!
I hope you all are well.
I git my P20 Pro and I would like to install a stock android version on it.
I am completely new in this area - I am an iOS switcher
I found already some tutorials but all of them say I would like to need a SD card etc..
Details:
Model: CLT-L29
Build Number: CLT-L29 8.1.0.107(C432)
EMUI Version: 8.1.0
Android Version: 8.1.0
Can you help me?
Not possible at this point, nor would you want to install stock android on this phone. I imagine most people bought this device because of the camera and installing stock android would completely destroy camera performance. Switch back to your old iPhone 6 because that would have better cameta performance than a P20 on stock android.

There are Project Treble (Stock 8.1, see here) ROMs that do work on our device, and with Project Treble comes also support for the hardware of the P20 Pro camera just that uses different software which in some cases (personal preference) works better as it uses less aggressive post processing.
Further to the above, I have tried the Project Treble ROMs (which do boot and successfully function) on our device however at the moment it comes with random rebooting every 10 minutes or so - so steer clear of it for now until this is fixed.
If you want to prepare for when these ROMs fully function - then I suggest that you unlock your bootloader (to do this, email Huawei Support with your IMEI number, Serial Number, Product ID and also the reason for unlock request - I suggest saying 'Development'. Bare in mind that this process may void your official Huawei warranty dependent on the trading regulation authority for your region ) and once you receive the unlock code then you can unlock via fastboot commands which will allow you to make device modifications such as installing ROMs or rooting your device.
Hope this helps

Android 9.0 P ROM on Huawei P20 Pro ??

is this Rom real of fake? can't find any post here about this rom.

I was just thinking about making a post regarding the AOSP Pie ROM but I'll respond in here.
It could be that it's this particular ROM: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-view-10/development/rom-aosp-pie-t3829466
I'm keen to find out if anyone is using it and how they find performance, and what is working and what is broken etc.

First of all, to flash anything (root,TWRP, custom ROMs) you must unlock Bootloader
Second, check the threads in ROMs section but if I recall correctly for P9, EMUI 5, there were only two or three custom ROMs based on stock and one or two (LOS and maybe RR) based on AOSP - developed (and stopped) back in 2017
EMUI 5 was not ready for GSI ROMs, and every custom ROM must have been adapted and ported to P9
You probably think about new, GSI based Pixel Experience or similar ROMs - for that you would first need to update to EMUI 8, Oreo (and rebrand from your Italian to Chinese EMUI because EMUI 8 was only released for China)
All together not impossible but not as easy and friendly as if you would have a new (Android 9 or 10) Xiaomi, One Plus or a similar phone where you just unlock Bootloader and start experimenting with GSI ROMs
Last but not the least, specially if you are a newbie, think about the community regarding help, learning from, sharing experience - there are only two or three users who are still actively experimenting with GSI/AOSP custom ROMs on P9, posting only something from month to month here, hence you will mostly need to go alone

If your device is unlocked, rebranded and updated to EMUI 8.0, you can install GSI ROMs with some issues. You're better off installing OpenKirin ROMs or sticking to EMUI 8.0. This device isn't very active in development, but we will try to help. You can install phh-based Android O/P ROMs. Android Q GSIs don't work because of this device's VNDK 26.

Custom EMUI 10 Kernel and ROMs

Hey guys,
Just picking up and using my trusty P20 Pro after a couple years and noticed no custom kernel (4.14+) or ROMs for EMUI 10.
Anyway, just checking if anyone else has done work on this before I start up on it. I intend to start with some custom kernels based on 4.14. Then maybe a custom ROM based on the released 10.0.
I have hardware testpoint but I've sealed up my phone (for now) and will be using software testpoint (via force upgrade) from now on if required.
Edit: I couldn't even find work on the latest kernel on Github, so I have added one here:
xsacha/kirin970-kernel (github.com)
Since this seems surprisingly unpopular, I assume it's because people don't know how to do custom firmware on EMUI 10? I'll write some instructions here for how to do software testpoint in a separate thread here: How to flash kernel in EMUI 10 via Software Testpoint mode | XDA Developers Forums (xda-developers.com)
Hell ya I would like to help
when you have a new rom i am whiling to be a beta tester
Hello, can you add camera2 Api with this method?
