So I noticed on Friday every app (Discord/Signal/Twitter/etc) that used WebViewer was crashing and wouldn't open. I traced it down to the Chrome app and disabled the Chrome app on the phone and everything worked. However, I wasn't able to uninstall or install the latest version of Chrome on the phone, even after re-enabling the app. Not a problem I thought, I'll just Restore from a Titanium backup. However when I did it put the phone into a boot loop. Crap, I'll restore from a Nandroid backup. Nope same thing. So I wiped the System/Dalvik/cache and downloaded the full Rom from OnePlus's website and did a fresh Flash. Same thing. If I try to Format the phone all way it freezes on the data and then goes into a dead android state.
Does anyone have any ideas? Preferably I would like to avoid wiping the phone to zero, but if I have to I have to. If it comes to that, does anyone have a good Rom recommendation for just playing games and taking calls?

Suggestions for what?
Unfortunately these signs you described are leading to memory chip failure (sudden death, hang on formatting data).
If you could boot into TWRP, I'd suggest backing data up to your PC, as much as possbile.
You may try your luck with an unbrick tutorial (without or with data wipe).

Yeah TWRP isn't an issue. That I can get into and it is my fault that I should have mentioned that I have already tried the unbrick methods.
I guess I was hoping that it really hadn't fallen to a hardware failure and more along the lines of something I did. I'll be honest in saying that I was really hoping there was a bit of knowldege that I was missing or that somebody would just be like "Nope, I've run into this before. Go in and change this flag from 1 to 0 and do this step you overlooked.".
Either way thank you for your time and responses and many thanks for taking time out to respond back to me.

No problem; sorry for your loss, but you know, that's perversity of inanimate objects. I had similar case with my laptop, when SSD died - poof and data is gone
I had the same on my old phone I just got a new sd 32GB and that was all of my extra Money and less than 2 weeks it broke and had to go back to 8gb

So my question is, when you wipe/reflash something, is there a way to keep all the Protected/Paid apps installed when you start up? Normally, a wipe will break all of your protected/paid apps and list them in the launcher as "com.XXXX.XXXX" or even "org.XXX.XXX". Launching them results in the infamous Force Close box.
This is indeed on Apps2SD and with Cyan's new 3.9
Have you tried running the fix_permissions script?
I'll reboot and run it now
Didn't fix them, unfortunatly :/

Back up all your apps using MyBackupPro or Backup for Root Users. I have all mine on my sd so they re-install automatically. I don't have to do anything, and they don't load up as com.xxxxx.htc.. blah. But I use Backup for Root Users when I do have to format my ext2 and this brings them back no problem.
Hmm interesting. I've never used Backup for Root Users with apps, just the data. Takes too long for me with all my apps...but I managed to find the spare time to re-install, that was fun . Thanks guys!
my advice to anyone on here who is going to play with anything on their phone:
before you do it, make sure you have enough time allotted to fix EVERYTHING, as if you were starting from scratch. that way, before you begin, you can have the peace of mind to know that if anything goes wrong, you've got all the time you need to fix it.
murphy's law: whenever you think you're in for a quick fix, theres a long road ahead of you.

Wouldn't hurt to have a backup unlocked GSM phone too. That's one of the nice things about GSM-based technologies... if your phone dies for whatever reason, pop the sim out and put it in a backup phone. You'll still be able to be contacted while you fix the primary device.
I had this issue too with the same Rom and with the previous version. This is how I solved it.
First I deleted all apps, etc from my SD card while it was connected to my Mac, just made it easier. (I was also running a previous Apps2Sd, not the one built into the mod, which I believe was the root of the issue. I didn't use the old apps2sd once I upgraded the ROM, and I may be way off but I find it suspect.
Then I wiped and reinstalled the ROM. Yea I had to reinstall my apps but...
...before doing all that I had tried removing and then reinstalling an app. A reboot/power cycle of the G1 would result in the icon being gone again and that ugly error message in regards to the app.
When I did the step I mentioned prevously, delete, wipe, etc I've not had any further issues.
I've also since updated by fs from ext2 to ext3 but that was after the fact.
Cyan's mod is by far my favorite and consistently stable and well documented. I'm glad I was able to correct my issues.

Did you manage to find a solution to this problem? If you did, could you please post it. I flash different ROMs often. Having to reinstall my paid apps over and over again is starting to get very annoying.
Haven't tried yet. I might try the MyBackup Pro option, as I heard it's a great app anyways. But I know what you mean
I have flashed prolly 25 ROMs over the last year or so. All were various XDA posted ROMs. All were flashed by first wiping the internal system fully as well as the cache and dalvik.
Over time my M7 has become sluggish.
Is it possible that the SD has some residual files that are slowing the overall OS and a total wipe might help?

You might want to do a full wipe and you might want to remove some old files off of your phone to give it more breathing room. Remember to backup everything including the ROM and copy it off of your phone in case something goes wrong.
If you really wanted a clean start then you could get an htc RUU but it would reset the phone completely stock, so make a backup. This helped me when I had a similar slow down on my phone

I did a full wipe factory reset. So far things seem better, other than the 1 xPosed module I installed, MacroExpansion, isn't working properly, or at least not the way it did before the wipe.

how many of these slow down threads do you have going ?
To me it seems your digging the same hole you were in before. Why don't you try using the phone without Xposed and without 110 junk apps and games on it? xPosed is a Hack ..the second you install and activate it your phone is no longer normal and your asking for problems

couple thousand.
no junk, no games at all. and since exposed worked before without issues, I think it's likely to work again. But I'll have some worthwhile input to figure its' issue.
Do I have multiples of the same concept?
Yep, weather for instance. Coz sometimes the servers don't respond when I want to know what's ahead.
Do I have a lot of apps that are seldom used? Yep, but when they're of use, they are.
the one "junk app" that was in particular misbehaving was a NYC subway map, which can be helpful when I go to areas that I'm not totally familiar with.
It now works fine.
One mans junk is anothers useful app. But do I have dancing chickens? Nope.

Right their is the flaw in your thinking, you did have issues that's why you wiped the phone (Twice). You'll eventually figure it out the hard way

Time will tell.
Hi everyone,
I dropped my phone (SM-W910N8, Vidéotron, Canada; at the time, stock 5.0.1, only rooted with TWRP) from a height of about 1 foot. It fell on the floor face first. As I picked it up, everything seemed normal. After some time, I realized that, while the phone worked, I was no longer connected to a network, so I went into the mobile network settings where it told me my SIM card was no longer detected.
I decided to restart the phone. That's when the bootloop started.
I went into TWRP, that worked great.
I made a backup and wiped cache, still bootloop. Tried a factory reset, still bootlooping. I tried restoring to a very early backup I had which led to yet another bootloop.
I tried copying a custom ROM from my PC while in TWRP, and have errors copying any files. (tried again after updating TWRP to the most recent version)
I tried reinstalling a fresh copy of Android 5.1.1. using TLS-N910W8VLU1COI4-20151002161810.zip through Odin, and it got to "Android is updating (...)" before bootlooping.
Now I installed a fresh copy of Android 6.0.1. using VTR-N910W8VLU1DPE2-20160531140250.zip through Odin, it got through "Android is updating (...)", can use Android for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, but the phone still bootloops.
Does anyone have any insight to fix this problem?
Thank you!
Try taking out the sum and booting and then putting it back in

Sounds like a loose connector. Not really an easy fix for that :/ But I could be wrong.
Is your phone under warranty still? And if not . How tech savvy are you? I had two note 3s that I use to tear down and it's not that difficult if you are careful. Just find a guide on YouTube and take take the back off. All the connectors should be right there. Just detach and reattach each one and see if that helps

I'm pretty tech savvy, I'm not afraid to tear it down, I've done it before to replace a screen on another model smartphone (SGS4, I believe?). I bought a LG/Google Nexus 5x (returning to my nexus roots) and love it, its my daily for now. That means I can toy around with my Note 4.
Thanks a lot for your insight, will post back with results after I try tearing it down.

Good luck brother! Let us know what comes.
So I have one great Note 4 that runs fine. A second Note 4, given to me appearing to be a paper weight, has been with some effort rescusitated. But no, the eMMC errors have not gone totally.
This "bad" phone, however, is allowing me to fully exercise some of my curiosity. And in the process, no matter what happens, I hope I can get a few more answers about things. I know about the little app that keeps the phone from going to sleep and stablizes it... that works on the phone unless it gets turned off. And then the whole cycle of trying to start it again (the freezer trick, the holding of buttons, the pulling of the battery... sigh).
My latest gambit has been to go into TWRP and reformat /system /data and /cache (the only directories where I'm allowed to do so) to f2fs. In fact, just to really wipe this baby as clean as I possibly could, I reformatted them back to ext4, then back again to f2fs. I then installed a custom rom (the official CM 14.1). It appears to have installed over the top of the f2fs without trouble.
But of course I am freewheeling it here. I do not know very much about what is going on down inside there.
My questions:
1. What "hidden" directories are there that TWRP isn't showing me? Is there any possibility that if I could reformat them (and not destroy the phone) it might help with the eMMC errors? How would I do that if I in fact can?
2. When I reformat the directories from one format to another, am I actually wiping them or not? (I've read long pages about people suggesting that Android phones are terribly hard to actually wipe all data off.)
3. Is there any other possible cause for the eMMC errors than bad physical memory? I understand that bad memory chip *is* one obvious cause... but are there other causes that could in fact kick up an eMMC error that isn't really about the memory chip?
I'll post any other questions if and when I think of them. Worst happens, I mess this phone up so bad it won't reboot at all. I'm not too worried about that.
All thoughts welcome. I can experiment without caring too much.
I have read elsewhere that the problem could be caused by having a micro sd inserted in the phone.

Yes, I've read that also. Tried all sorts of experiments with and without micro-sd card inserted. Using a Wake Lock app from playstore (set on mid-range) allows the phone to do and be nicely. But shut it off and I have to freeze it for 5 min before it will restart. So... hopefully the Chinese mb card I bought today will actually work. Providing I can in fact open the phone without busting it. (There's some good clues on youtube which is nice.)

Yes, I said that in my first post. My point was that it is possible other causes for the error message just might exist. But all that is moot now... I did in fact order a new motherboard. But in the meantime, when I went to dissect the phone according to instructions on youtube, I found out too late that the author of said instructions was fairly clueless as far as a successful end result. The phone is dead, dead, dead. Lucky for me, it wasn't my main Note 4, which is just fine.

Once and and while my Pixel 5 reboots and gets stuck in a bootloop. It happens while I listen to music with YouTube Music on a bluetooth ear phones or search for updates on the Play Store or nothing at all. I have no idea what is causing this.
I suspect one app called ProCall Mobile but I can't really test for two reasons: 1st it happens to randomly, weeks without one, than two in a row, than nothing for a month, or for few days, 2nd I need the app for my job and can't just remove it for testing.
I'm really annoyed by this, I also can't reset the phone because of reasons. Any ideas how can I narrow it down?
Sounds like something is causing a kernel panic, and it's hard to say what. The best thing I could really recommend is a complete factory reflash, but that requires an unlocked bootloader. I believe there may be a way to use ADB and USB Debugging to get a log dump, but I have no idea how to do that or how to read it.

Nope. If it's your phone, you don't have to keep any app on it. I have never experienced bootlooping or forced reboot on P5. Ask them for a work phone or tablet. It's not like old phones are expensive.

Also nope. You can back the entire phone up on google, data reset and reinstall everything.
Try force stop and clear cache in app.
Uninstall reinstall app.
Remove all unused apps.
Check Battery Usage
Go to Dev Options and turn on System Tracing and other debuggin features. I highly doubt you will be able to figure it out from there, but it may help others.
