Hi
I have been having issues with my Note8. It loses the cellular network periodically, and doesnt acquire it back. A reboot is required to get the network back but then doesnt last long. I have tried most everything. Listed in order
1. Reseating the Sim / Removing the SD card to check if that was an issue
2. Switching network from 4G to 3G to see if that was the issue
3. Factory reset a few times, including once while not installing apps and letting the phone run with less apps
4. Changing SIMs
5. Changing SIM tray with an S8
6. Using another network sim card
7. Running the phone in Safe mode.
I have exhausted everything that I can have done. Any other thoughts or suggestions?
Phone is within warranty so I can get it fixed, but the issue is that I live in a different country now and they will charge to just take a look at the phone.
Side effect is that while hunting for the network, the phone gets hot and runs down the battery.
I am hoping that there might be a software issue, as the phone does connect to the network for a while before losing connection.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks a lot.
It looks like you have done all of the obvious stuff - it's starting to sound like a hardware fault to me.
Thanks! My worst fear unfortunately.
Was hoping someone might have a software solution or something else which I could try but...
i had same problem with 2 x galaxy s8
after they test for a month and big fighting with those F customer care
they replaced 1 with sealed box and the other one they changed the motherboard which doesn't help , still same problem
i sold both

My N1 will not reconnect to a mobile network if it has been sitting for a few hours in a no-coverage area, such as a building. I cannot get it to reconnect, even after refreshing the network search. This action only leaves me with no result or a message saying that there was an error in searching or connecting to mobile networks. The only solution is to restart the phone. Every time I try to turn the phone off after this error has occurred, the shutdown sequence hangs until either I become frustrated and do a battery pull, or it automatically restarts and do a battery pull, or it automatically restarts itself. Furthermore, the phone used to give me an error notification saying that the phone does not have carrier service. Now, it does not. Furthermore, the phone used to give me an error notification saying that the phone does not.
I tried uninstalling all my programs and nothing has worked for me. I've also tried toggling the airplane mode to no avail.
I'm considering putting on the cyanogen ROM to see if it would fix this error, but I am hesitant to void my warranty. It's a pretty serious problem as I'm very frequently in a building where I don't get service. It's quite frustrating to have to wait to reconnect to a mobile network once I leave the building and hope that the error didn't occur or have to do a battery pull every time I realize that the phone simply won't reconnect.
Can anyone suggest any solutions?
Mod it. What have you got to lose? Your overall performance will increase. The radio signal may even improve. Your call.

thanks for the tip. i've been thinking about it. it's the warranty i don't want to lose. eh i'll keep thinking about it.
this phone sucks. it's glitchy, can be sluggish. iphone got dumbed down but at least its functions work.
meh
Hey!
You dont want to lose your warranty, then use it!
Your phone seems to be faulty...
My phone is experiencing the same problem as of yesterday. Won't connect. Wonder if it's a T-Mobile issue.

Its only glitchy coz you have stock rom
Cyanogen is really stable and adds alot of features / functionality.
Fair enough you dont want to lose warranty but i remember in the general thread that lots of hardware failures and others can still fix your n1 under warranty even though they unlocked the bootloader.
I too have this problem, hopefully the 2.2 update will fix the problems.
Can you guys confirm if its android or your service provider thats causing this...

I have the same problem and it's starting to bother me a lot because my car is parked in a garage with no coverage. My in-car BT then becomes useless as my phone won't reconnect to the network once I exit the garage
I just called Google support 10 mins ago about this and they went through normal protocol to reset to factory settings. They then called Tmo and let them know what the issue was while I was still on the phone. Tmo unregistered my phone from the network while my battery was taken out of my phone and then reregistered my phone to the network. Tmo asked me to monitor this for a few days and call them directly (not Google) if the issue persists. They will then elevate this to a higher level because they feel this would be a network problem, and not a hardware issue.
Hope this helps! Please post what you have tried to solve the problem!

^ it worked! my phone reconnects to the cellular network after what Google/Tmo did for me on the phone!
I haven't tried calling tmobile, but it is NOT something that will be fixed by hopping on cyanogen's rom. I've been rooted on cyanogen's rom for quite some time and this problem still exists on my n1 which is SUPER annoying. I will try calling tmobile to see if they can fix it on their side, but rooting is not the fix here.
I had the same issue. I used anycut and phone info shortcut and changed the wireless default setting to us and it totally fixed the problem. Have not had that issue again.

I resolved this by going to the T-Mobile store where they replaced my SIM card. They made a copy to a new SIM card, installed it and everything works fine.
For the record symptoms included:
* "Error while searching for network" message
* Found networks but said "your SIM card is not authorized for this network" when connecting
* Network listed as "No service" or "Emergency calls only | T-Mobile"
I get this too with an at&t phone.
Have asked for a replacement device from HTC (since the reception is crappy to begin with).
I also have audio quality problems when reception is only 1-2 bars.
Will see if the new phone is better.
I had this problem regularly. It hasn't happened once since I upgraded to Froyo, so I think it has been fixed in that release.
sometimes have this too, i fix it by going to the settings > wireless > mobile networks > APN. at first i deleted and retyped my password in the selected APN, now i just click my network in the APN settings, don't change anything and leave. It immediately reconnects after that.
edit: and i have stock froyo & live in belgium.
I got a new, replacement phone from HTC today.
This new phone has a BIG PROBLEM with this issue.
Even if I am only without reception for a couple of seconds (go through the garage, etc.) it will not connect to any network until I reboot.
My old phone would only experience this problem maybe 25-35% of the time.
Very, very annoying!!!

I had similar issues and called tmobile support. I was first linked to Google support. They went through the similar process as described by in the first page. (#*#*4636*#*# select USA band etc). While I was on hold, they called t mobile tech support and had them reset network connection and tried to get me onto a different tower etc.
Tmobile support stated that my sim card (had for about 2 years) was the cause of the issue as they can't handle smartphones as well as their new sim cards. They also said the new sim should improve reception and connection stability (Don't see how a new sim could do this but what do I know?). Moreover, they noted my account and told me to go into the nearest store for a new sim card. Went into the nearest tmobile store told them the issue, they pulled up my account and gave me a new sim. Took less then 5 minutes and I have not had the issue with staying connected to the tmobile network.
I will update this after a few days to see if I still have the issue.
I have the same problems that i cannot connect to network here in germany. first i think it was my sim card, but befor i had another provider (E-Plus) where i had the same problems with reconnecting to network. and one day my eplus sim card is broken so i had to buy a new one by t-mobile. i have tried a lot of roms from here (cyanogen/ 5.0.7 /5.0.8T5 Kangorama rodriquezstyle and leofroyo) everyone seems to have the same problems with reconnecting to network. i hope im not alone with my problems and someone can help.
hmm...
Count me as another. I just upgraded to froyo and it went beserk. Had no service for a while. It would only come on after constantly tapping "select network automatically" until it kicked me out of the menu. It started getting better but kept kicking me out of 3g. I set it to stay always on 3g and it seems to be better... still I'm going to call tmobile and see if I can get a new sim as well.
Thanks for the info guys!
Hey,
So I've noticed an issue with my LTE connection, and I couldn't find a similar issue on XDA:
Sometimes, I'll randomly drop from LTE to 4G, and cannot get LTE back unless I cycle through airplane mode or restart my phone.
This happens on more than one occasion:
1. I'll go into CALL SETTINGS, and when my phone checks the network, I lose LTE and stay on 4G.
2. I'm coming out of an elevator, and I'll drop from LTE to 4G.
I've tried reaching out to Samsung and AT&T, but both blame the other (go figure). Since my phone is still under manufacturer warranty, Samsung said they'll repair it. However, I've heard some bad reviews from you and elsewhere about manufacturer's repairs, and I'm not so sure if that's the best solution to ship my phone out to them.
This phone isn't rooted or unlocked - nor has it ever been.
I'd love to hear your thoughts. Has this happened to you? Do you know of this issue? Any possible solutions other than shipping to Samsung?

Sorry you're having an issue with lte. I don't know of a fix for ya. But I have some last ditch efforts to go thru before you send it away.
1. Open settings -more networks -mobile networks -access point names. Make sure "ATT Phone" is enabled, and verify it's apn settings with your carrier.
2. Find another person on same network as you and compare if lte drops at same time.
3. Request a new sim card from carrier. They are free and only takes a few minutes to swap. You can walk into the store, or request one online.
4. Perform a factory data reset. See if anything improves. You'll need to do this anyway before you send it off. Don't forget to back it up first! Use kies, or your favorite app.
Hey,
I verified my APN settings, tried a new SIM card, and even factory-reset my Note 3. None of those worked. However...
I ended up taking the device to an AT&T Device Support Center, and got it replaced in 15 minutes! The tech there agreed with me that there was nothing else they could do except replace the device. Since my Note 3 was still under the original manufacturer's warranty, AT&T replaced it in minutes - no questions asked.
Now my phone is running perfectly. No dropped LTE!
Glad to hear you got a replacement! Thanks for reporting back.
Hello everyone maybe you guys can help me out since my warranty with my Note 5 expired a couple months back.
My data isn't working on my Note 5 Duos, SM-N9208. I've tried both sim slots and also selected the appropriate sim for Data connectivity through sim manager. I only use one sim at any time. All functions on the phone work without any issues, wifi is strong but of course when I am out and about my data is useless.
I have a post paid plan with LTE 4G. My Phone will connect and show 4G/4G+/H+/H but receives and uploads absolutely nothing. I've done resets, I've formatted I even downloaded latest firmware for my country and telecom from Sammobile. Any ideas?
I know this is probably a stupid question but did you make sure that Mobile Data is turned on in settings?
yes it is and it registers the networks.
Update! After another firmware install through Odin I got Data to work but it only works with Auto Connect 4g/3g/2g. It registers to 4G+/4G and the device gets INSANELY hot with MASSIVE battery drain. Only Mobile Data is switched on using facebook. No other apps. If I try setting to 3G Only it won't even work, this is crazy.
I literally watched 87% to 54% in not even 10mins on FB and the device got super hot. Could this be a hardware issue? Looks like I need to bring my device to service center.
The firmwares I install are all for my country+telecom provider.
Device has been formatted several times as well to try to fix it.. never rooted etc.
it does sound like there is a hardware problem, I would take it to your providers service center ASAP and do not use it ( as experienced with the N7 fiasco, I think that you have a definite battery issue, how that relates to the no data I dont know maybe the overheating battery is affecting the software preventing your mobile data from working properly
Yep 100%! With data off and wifi using all normal apps and games it runs normally. I'll have to have it serviced.
Hey guys,
my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 was on the table, when the AVG-Anti Theft alarm started suddenly.
I thought that it is just a bug and unlocked my phone, using the PIN, that I set when setting up AVG.
Now, the intetesting part starts:
I was not able, to connect my phone to the carrier-network (let's call it carrier A), which means I can't call anybody or send SMS or do anything, a phone is supposed to do.
At thirst, I thought that the sim card must be defect and tried to put it into another phone. The other phone did not have any problems, connecting to the network.
My second thought was that the modem or something like that in my phone has a defect, which is causing the issues. Oh boy, was I wrong, as every other carriers sim cards are working with the Note 8. I do have 3 sim cards from carrier A and each one from carrier B and C. All three cards from carrier A are not working, but B and C are.
Then I decided to call the carrier A support, which assured that my phone is causing the problems, rather than their network.
Afterwards, I tried hard resetting my phone and even re-flashing the stock ROM did not do anything.
I would appreciate any help.
P. S. I'm sorry, if my English is not that good, it is a foreign language for me.
Looks like it is the avg app that is causing the trouble, have you contacted de developer?
Contacted AVG
Yes I did contact the AVG support, but have not got an answer yet. But do you think that AVG could make such changes to the system, which would persist, even after a factory reset/ re-flash?
Just wondering if anyone else might have had this issue I'm having and if there is any fix or work around for this. So I imported a Vivo X90 Pro Plus China variant and am currently using it in the US. I originally was using Verizon on it but was having network issues. Would work for a week or so (4G data, text, voice all worked), then would go to no bars and no service and would not re-connect with the network. I would have to remove the sim card, and re insert it multiple times or activate a new sim card and put it back into the phone for the phone to re connect and show signal bars and work again. So I assumed its just Verizon thus switched to a T-mobile sim and started using T-mobile with the device. With T-mobile worked better, got 5G instead of only 4G and everything was smooth for about 3 weeks. Then again I am having this same issue. Every week it drops service and says no service, I have to remove the sim card, insert a completely different sim and remove that sim and re insert my active sim for the phone to re establish and activate with the network.
SO the only thing I can think is that either the phone software somewhere is rejecting and blocking the sim or network after a while for some reason, or that the carrier (tmobile and verizon) are rejecting the phone being on their network and kicking it out. But if that is the case, why does it work again when I remove the sim, insert a different sim and re insert the same active sim back again. Makes me lean toward a software lock or something.
Any ideas? Thanks guys.
Im now in US too, currently running on mint and i didnt see any problems with network issues, most of time in on wifi but every time i need data it works fine. Only difference is im running european sim on slot 1 and us on slot 2.
oh, hmm not sure what could be causing this issue for me. I'm thinking maybe one of the installed Chinese apps are interfering with it but not sure.
I'm on mint as well (uses T-Mobile network).
Never had any network issues.
It might be worth trying to restore the phone and try the newer 2.6.4 debloat script as a baseline.
Then after that you can try removing some of the additional system packages like vivo store or vivo.pem (although the jury is mixed on whether it's useful to do that).

I may have to try that and look into it. I'm not too familiar with doing any rooting or running adb stuff (been years since I did that sort of thing) so worried I might mess something up rather than fix it lol
