Maybe because at&t has his own note 8 version which only works with at&t sim.
Try getting a new sim card from at&t and call them and see if they can add your phone's imei to there network. (Worth a try ).

Hi All
I bought my galaxy note i9220 in China on 18th Aug. It is a genuine phone, NOT a clone just to note.
It was working perfectly fine when I was in China using a China Mobile SIM card.
Last Sunday I went to hongkong to catch a flight to London, and when I was in Hong kong, I changed back to my UK 3 SIM card, which again, was working OK in hongkong.
Before flight took off, I switched the phone off.
During the flight, I must have hit some button and accidently switched the phone on ( as when I landed, I took my phone out and it was “ON” with no signal).
Ever since I landed in Heathrow, I got no signals. The phone shows I can only make emergency calls.
I have tried all of the below but none worked:
1) Switching the phone off & on.
2) Take out battery (while phone was off) & SIM and put them back later.
3) Take out battery (while phone was on) & SIM and put them back later.
4) Reset to manufactory status.
When I go to Setting – Wireless & Network – Mobile Network – Search operator, I can see “3” in the list of operator, but when tried to connect to it, it said “Unable to connect to the network”.
The “3” sim worked fine in my old NOKIA phone so I don’t think it’s a problem on the SIM.
Anyone able to help? Thanks sooo much!
a suggestion..try to make sure you inserted the sim card with the bend angle facing the bottom of your phone..sometimes you insert your sim in a wrong way and this cause your problem..am not trying to be funny but it happen with quite a lot of people including me...
or Could be a fault on your phone..and these things happen..
or your sim is invalid for a reason..i suggest to get a pay as you go 3 uk sim card and try it ...or call 3 customer service and speak to one of their agents to have a look at your account ... they might send you another sim or pop in one of their stores and speak to someone about it...if nothing wrong with your account then am afraid it is a hardware issue with your phone..
Are you sure the phone is not a 4G phone?
This won't work in the UK as our Cell's are different as well.

Got my mum called the phone provider back in CHina they said it should be ok to use in the UK.
They asked me to check my SIM freuency (or sth like this). and said as long as it is on GSM900/1800/1900MHZ, then it should work...what is that???
Try change your network settings between the options, gsm, hspa, and wcdma. Think it's settings, more, mobile networks, network mode.
Probably one of those should sort you out.

Thanks.
When i went into the"mobile networks", the phone started auto search of network.
And it returns network lists:
3
O2 (forbidden)
Vodafone (forbidden)
I understand the 2 being forbidden as im not a custmer of either O2 or VDF, but it just does not allow me even to connect to 3..grrr very anooying.....
I will try changing the settings when i get home today.

THere is no network mode in the mobile network ....how can i change the mobile network type in the SGN?
As stated in the title/subject line, I have an unlocked AT+T Note 3 that I'm using with Metro PCS. I'm using the SIM card which was previously in my Metro PCS Galaxy S3.
Now, 1 week after I began utilizing this phone I moved across town and for the past month I've assumed that was in a 'NON Metro' area... rather there just wasn't a good signal here. However.... it turns out my neighbor has Metro and low & behold his service is excellent! I was shocked at how he's always got a 4G signal when I'm not even able to connect to the internet AT ALL. And boy have I tried everything! When I initially moved in, my ISP dropped the ball and failed to transfer my internet service.... it took almost 2 weeks for them to connect a coaxial from the BOTTOM of the telephone pole to the coaxial from my house... anyway, I was so desperate to get online I tried absolutely everything.... FAIL! Although.... on ONE occasion I did have a website page load halfway then 'timeout'.
I've manually and automatically input APN settings. The apn settings are the T-Mobile APN settings that automatically generated when sim was inserted (I dunno if that is even the correct term to describe APN settings...).
What am I missing? Or not doing? Should I be changing anything via hidden menu? This is making me insane..... any advice would be truly appreciated!
Thanks ..... in advance from the Crazy Nurse....
Try these APN settings

I'm not seeing "EXTRAID" line/entry slot that is listed on the APN settings you posted.
Here are my settings... I'm not currently using this APN because I don't think they're right. I'm using the T-Mobile...
*edited to add this question: do i also need to change some settings via hidden menu?
Thank you very much for your help BTW!

Was your S3 an unlocked model like your Note 3 or was it the metropcs version, metro had the white one which is a cdma/lte and later on they had the black/blue which is gsm/lte .
On your note 3 did your data work before you moved? Do you currently have talk and regular text working?
If data was working before you moved try going to your settings, connections, more networks, mobile networks and have both mobile data and data roaming checked on next go to network operators, click on default setup and then click on automatic if its on automatic already then click on manual, it should take a couple of minutes after that choose T-Mobile and after all that turn off and then back on. Hopefully that's all you have to do because the next step would be call customer service and have your line refreshed and then do the steps again.
@440bro 's apn is one of the other apn's you can also tryout.
yup...
Yeah... I don't have that line 'extraid'...
Neighbors S3 is an unlocked AT&T as well.... she gets exceptional service...
I got pretty good data before I moved... and yes, talk & text work... however.... If my phone isn't in just the right spot it'll roll directly to voicemail without ringing... and on rare occasions it'll say 'no mobile networks' when I'm texting..... If I wave the phone around in the air it'll send the text. (if anyone saw me flapping my arms around they'd probably call to have me committed, lol)...
Also, when i go in under the operator settings as you suggested, I'm unable to change it to manual... rather, when i select 'manual' it states that it's searching but after a few minutes... after nothing happens it'll put itself back to 'automatic' ...
Thank you very much for your help...hope I can figure it out !

Have you tired a Hard Rest?
I had a unlocked At&t note 2 that started doing the same as your note 3 but I was flashing different rom's and mistakenly flashed a different modem and it went down hill from there, eventually I sold it for parts.
I recently got an employee line from metro and nothing was working, no talk/text/data but I contact customer service and asked them to refreshed my line from there end and a couple of hours later I was up and going. That might help you too.
The very last thing you can do is to try a new sim card which costs $10.00+ tax. Depending on the store you go to they might want to charge you to activate it but just let them know that you can activated for free by calling customer service.
Long story short. I was using a Verizon branded note 2 on straight talk when my contract ended with verizon. I grew tired of the phone and purchased the blu vivo xl from amazon a few days ago. Now I know that my sim in my Verizon wouldn't work on the blu phone because it's not compatible.
So I went on chat to switch my Verizon sim to an att sim from the same byop package (which also came with a tmobile sim) They said that it could take anywhere from an hour to 2 days to convert over, and that I'll know when it happens because my note 2 will stop working. Sure enough it stopped and a bit later my blu phone started getting a signal and 4G icon.
However, it was in and out all night and since then I haven't got it back. Frustrated, I then switched it to the tmobile sim. I get the 4G lte icon and arrows move up and down. My signal goes from 2/4 bars to 3/4 bars. Now I'm thinking good that's more than what att was able to do. Wrong. Well not completely.
I can send a text and my wife will get it. Not really slow but not normal. She'll reply and I can receive it. But I can't access the internet, and I can't call or receive calls. Went on chat they gave me apns to input and still nothing. I still get 4G icon and I still get service.
I really like this phone but this transition has been really draining.
Thanks you for your help.
I have no idea, I had a really smooth transition activating it onto metro. Maybe you just have spotty coverage with straight talk in your area? I'll try looking for more info

Correct. The phone is loaded with apns that matched what they gave me. The straight talk for att and tmobile.
So as an update, I bought a tmobile sim, (not straight talk this time) the phone received texts from tmobile for this and that. I have good signal as indicated from the bars. 4G lte icon is on (but no data due to not having a tmobile account, but the sim is allowed 30 texts and 30 minutes of talk time until I get one)
The problem that is persisting is that I cannot make a call. I'll dial any number between my wife's, friends even my own and it just gets stuck on dialing. No operator or anything just blank. It's flashing "dialing..." but it won't actually go and do anything.
I contacted blu, and they gave me the same apns that I used and assured me that it should work on straight talk. But yet still nothing. I contacted blu again after I got the tmobile sim. I'm awaiting an answer on that before I proclaim the phone a dud and exchange with amazon.com.

StraightTalk is owned and operated by Tracfone. I went through more blood pressure pills dealing with them than almost any other corporation. Best bet? Switch to almost any other carrier. I use Airvoice, but there are a BUNCH of others out there with no contract, pay-as-you-go programs. Truly, there are better deals out there than StraightTalk/Tracfone.
You are having issues (I think) because different phones available through Straight Talk work on different networks. They ask for your zip code and then show you phones from different networks that will work in your area. If you use a SIM card you are AT&T or T-Mobile. Sprint and Verizon use CDMA. Check coverage maps. This will explain why your coverage is spotty now. There is a list floating around out there that shows which networks use what phones and so on for Straight Talk. Once you put the SIM card in the phone, it picks up whatever network is available in your area. If it's a network that doesn't have great coverage where you are, service is diminished.
Hi everyone - first post here so try and bear with me as I am a newbie to all the terminology.
I have a VS980 that was active with Verizon for two years through my work. I was able to keep the phone once they upgraded to the S6. I have an active T-Mobile sim card that works in the VS980 with some changes to the APN. I can get text messages, call, and 4glte data with the T-Mobile sim card. The only issue was the ? on the sim card, which I understand can be removed with some mods. I don't get a T-Mobile signal at my house or my wife's workplace so I am trying to change to Page Plus. I ordered the 4g sim card and plan, activated per the instructions but I cannot make any calls, send texts and have no data. Page Plus says everything is working on their end.
I've reset the phone by turning it off and using the Power/Volume Down combination. When I insert the Page Plus sim and restart the phone I get what looks like a Verizon 'Phone Activation' screen. See attached picture. I can get out of this screen to the home screen, but still do not have any data. What is weird is that my phone shows "4GLTE" and an active 3 signal bars.
It is my understanding the VS980 comes unlocked and I have read about many others who use Page Plus on this phone, but why am I having this issue? Does this Verizon 'Phone Activation' have anything to do with it? If I do dial a 10 digit phone number I get a pre-recorded message saying "Welcome to Verizon Wireless, please hold while your call is transferred to an external operator where you should be able to completed your call with a credit card...."

Any help is appreciated!

I would advise you to go into your settings in connections and mobile networks and check your access point names and make sure you have the right information in there and you also need to make sure whatever carrier you're using is CDMA capable and not GSM the phone will not work with GSM.
Hey guys, thx for the reply. I figured it out.
I took my old sprint sim and put it in and it found the network, then pulled it out and put the straight talk one in and it changed from sprint to Verizon.. no more roaming indicator.. wahoo!
