Nokia Lumia 830 - RM-984 - Data Recovery after Update - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, i client has brought to me one Nokia Limia 830 - RM-984 that he told us it was stuck in the boot loop (showing NOKIA, then Windows Logo) and then rebooting.
After some reboots, the phone opened and it had a new version of windows and all data was deleted. The version of windows is: 8.10.15148.0
Unfortunately we cannot find any data from this client and we don't know if it was in an update process or what happened there in the boot loop.
Our client wants to find photos and videos from this Windows Phone.
Is it possible to get the old data back?
Is there a software we can run from the computer or phone to find the old data of the partition or in the unallocated space?
Maybe rooting will allow us to create a physical dump of the memory and search it for lost data?

Factory reset for windows?

Hi everyone
I have an Asus laptop and I would like to reset it to factory settings (like wipe data in android) so all programs and settings I have made will be deleted. I dont want to reinstall windows I just want to delete all programs and reset settings so the computer will be like when I bought it Is there anyway to do this on windows7 and if its possible - how to do it?
Lol that doesn't exist really in Windows itself. Or you need to go back to state it was in when you bought it by using the recovery.
i agree with tomsteel1, the only way is to reinstall windows, i did this and backed up everything before i reinstalled windows.
Tap f9 during startup. That should load the recovery partition.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA
I've owned many laptops over the years, and have yet to come across a laptop that will not do what is called "Full Destructive Factory Reset."
All user added software and files are whipped clean, and the system reverts back to the way it was shipped from the factory.
For HP it's under all programs>system recovery>PC Recovery and then follow instructions.
For Lenovo there is a special "Think Vantage" blue button that you press during boot-up, AND you can also access the recovery program from "all programs." Every manufacture offers these Factory recovery programs, and sometimes they vary slightly as to how they're implemented, but they all do the same thing. (don't confuse Microsoft Windows Restore operations with Full Factory restore operations)
If you no longer have the owners manual for your laptop, which will tell you how to perform a Full Factory Restore Operation, just google your Asus model # and Full Factory Restore, or go to the Asus Support Website, and you shall prevail.
Edit: If this was not the type of restore operation you were looking for, the previous outlined steps will also list all available options.

Looks like you didn't own enough lol. I've seen many laptops without it.
As to how to do it, when the computer turns on, and you get the first screen and look at the bottom. It might say something along the lines of "Press F# for system recovery". If it doesn't boot into windows, and check if you have a recovery partition. Right click My Computer->Manage->Disk Management, and check if you have a partition called recovery.

Must have been before my time. Unless his Asus is ancient, their support website and/or his owners manual will give explicit step by step instructions for performing all restore operations.
I dont have the recovery partition. I only have system reserved, C:, and two unnamed partitions (70 and 4 GB) I think they are for ubuntu since I also have ubuntu installed so I dont even have normal startup but only asus screen then OS select and then "starting windows" screen. The manual says that there should be a recovery partition but probably previous owner deleted it (I am 2nd owner). s there any hope for me to get computer back in original state? And if I reinstall windows will I still be able to get programs that were originally installed on it (turbo33, fingerprint unlock, power4gear hybrid...)?

Ahhh, then they removed the recovery partition. You will need to use a windows CD (download it, it's legal) and use the key from the sticker on the bottom of the laptop. Than download all the drivers from Asus support website, and the might have all the programs (bloatware) there to download as well. If you don't have another computer, download the drivers before doing anything and keep them on a flash drive. Once you reinstall you might not have the LAN/WiFi drivers installed.
There may still be hope, try bashing "F11" on startup and see if you get to a recovery console, your 4gb partition could still be the recovery partition, if you want to explore it you can right click on my computer -> manage -> disk management -> click on the partition and click change drive letters and paths -> add a drive letter.
If this is completely useless then as the person above said (However the legality of obtaining an installation disk is questionable, also be careful with whether you are downloading an OEM version or RETAIL version, as your key is specific!) you can simply re-install windows and visit the asus site, punching in your model number from the bottom of the laptop !
The other 2 partitions are ext4 and are for linux so no recovery partition If I decide to format and install windows I download from somwhere will I be able to use original serial for activation? Because I see a lot of people have troubles activating (illegal) windows...

Is my Lumia 1320 beyond help?

Hi there,
I have a nearly three year old Lumia 1320 that I have as my daily driver, and have been using the Windows 10 DP since early days. Recently, the W10 release it had was the one that stuffed up SD card storage (and was getting random reboots) so I decided to go back to 8.1 and updated it to the Update 2 release.
So far so good. However, the newest W10 release came out so I decided to give it another go (especially as SD card issue resolved) so ran the appropriate software, it downloaded, and applied the image, then it failed. It said to try again, so I did and then started saying things like I didn't have enough storage. The Storage app wouldn't load, nor would Store, Phone, Messages etc. so tried the recovery tool to reflash it back to stock 8.1
This tool failed during the process and said it couldn't flash the device.
Tried various reset techniques and they all failed to get a good result. The symptom was to get the red NOKIA screen for a split second then it loaded the OS.
Now I'm getting concerned and bring out the big guns! Read the XDA tutorial on Windows Phone flashing, downloaded the tools, installed the unsigned driver, downloaded the appropriate image for my phone and went to flash.
Got to 2% and failed:
Sorry! Your device could not be flashed with the image you selected.
Please correct the following error and try again:
Failed to flash with device error { 0xd, 0x0, 0x0, 0x2, 0x0, 0x0 } : Status: 0x80000008
I looked up this 0xd code on the MS site and the error is this:
0xD While applying the image to disk, a block write operation failed.
So now to the ultimate question - does this mean my phone has a hardware error that prevents flashing, or can anyone suggest a workaround to get past this?
The model is RM-994 - the image is 059V5K2 (Australia/NZ Vodafone)
PC I am flashing with is a Core i7 2600, 8GB, Windows 10 Pro x64 with latest November update.
Any advice much appreciated.
Darren
No one?
Really no replies? Anyone on here know more low-level details or tests I can perform?
Even if someone confirms my suspicions that there is a hardware fault that simply can't be overcome, I can move on.
The phone is still running, alarms work, lock screen works (even updates Bing photo), but no Store, Storage Sense, Messages, plus many others and if I delete apps listed as unavailable, or even current apps, such as Tweetium, they disappear and return after a reboot of the device.
I have even tried remote wipe from the web and the device reboots and goes straight back to where it was.
Regards
Darren

Lumia 640 restore DPP partition

Hi!
Yesterday I rooted (interop tools) my Lumia 640 with WM10 onboard, get full FS access and delete folder DPP (and some others) from my Phone.
After restart phone won't booted:crying:
After that I flash my phone with stock WP8.1 (lumiafirmware.com) using WPID (WDRT is not recognized my phone).
WM8.1 started successfully but 1) my SIM card is not working (present but unavailable), 2) I cant login in Microsoft account - phone want to be activated (see screenshots).
As I can guess in deleted DPP folder there were some original keys and model values. Without them my phone is not activated and I have two problems 1) and 2).
I have files from DPP folder stored on my laptop.
Please help me to restore my phone!!!
I thought to do another root and copy DPP folder back but I can't do root in WM8.1 because I have no one application that need for CustomWPSystem to make root (MixRadio is absent in stock my rom, WPD and others I can't install from Store because of problem entering in Microsoft account - see 2) ).
So I'm completely disappointed :crying::crying::crying:
Can't attach screenshot don't understand how to. May be it's limited because I'm new here.
I took another ffu with MixRadio in it and successfully rooted WM8.1.
Thank copy back DPP folder. Than reflash my phone with stock image.
But all this didn't help(((
The problem of activation and not working SIM still present.
I call to service center and thay told me to completely reflash bootloader with special equipment.
Now my question is will it solve my problems? And can I reflash bootloader myself with simple USB cable and a laptop?
Dpp contain unique key for windows activation, ssd key hash and some another's. Sometimes device flash with specific device certs.
If you have backup dpp.bin its good but may be you have to write it correctly as gpt partition.
I think this step would be good. First flash dpp or restor its stuff.
Then put phone on emergency download mode. Then flash all bootloaders then flash ffu.
I don't think it will be get re-provision or what.

Yeah..i got your point....
You have to do this.
Anyhow you need to install wm10 ...and interope it interop tool ..and apply full fs access...
Now, you need to create a simple folder with "DPP" Name and put content onside it ..reboot....gotcha you have done.
Problem
As per my knowledge...you deleted the DPP .so your phone doesn't have any connectivity...
No wifi
No cellular
No activation
So, need to install wm10 anyhow..is the only one solution
DPP partition files?

Was this an ATT locked phone in the US?
No, it's in Russian. No lock.
I bring my phone to official service center. They test my phone and said can nothing to do and they replaced my phone.

Dang. I'll tell you what happened to my phone:
I think I also deleted the DPP too. But somehow, I accidentally put T-Mobile ffu instead of att. Now, whenever I try to put att ffu it says thor2 invalid platform ID. I also tried booting to emergency download mode. Windows device recovery tool detects it as a 635, and downloads the wrong ede's and edp's. So I had to go to lumiafirmware.com and download them myself. However, when I try to use it in thor2, I get an error when it sends the ed signature. As a last resort, I used the current T-Mobile software and then used vcREG on the phone to get full fs access via MTP. But also that doesn't work the DPP folder has the exact same contents as the EFIESP folder.... I tired to also do FS access over SFTP - I can't even connect to the phone... so I'm kind of screwed...
[UPDATE]
After practically trying every single thing ever possible, and nothing working, phone seems to be bricked in QHUSUB_BULK.

There A System To Go On Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini For Data Recovery?

Hello my friend has a samsung galaxy s3 mini recently the phone has been connected to kies and during the connection there was a problem and this problem does not allow access to the phone itself, the links at the bottom of the page you will find photos that they were made by the owner of the phone itself that shows the error that gives the terminal.
The questions that I have:
1 - it can reinstall the boot (as in windows with fixboot and fixmbr) so that he can restart the phone without losing data?
2 - you can boot your phone into Safe mode and you can save the contents or on a Micro SD or cloud?
3 - and possible after re-flashing the system retrieve the data and thus treat the phone's memory as if it were un'hdd a pc?
Thank you all for any help you can provide me.

As download mode works (what the pic is showing), you/he can simply flash a firmware file using a program called odin (not kies).
Link for firmware (choose the one for your country/region): http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?q=gt-i8190&exact=1 (and odin is widely available)

Help with recovering my photo in my samsung note8 internal storage

Hi all and hope you are well.
I am new to this forum and also rooting any android device.
Why I am here because I lost all my camera photos of my samsung note8 which is very important to me.
How do i lost my photo? I used USB cable to connect my phone to my pc (Windows 10) and want to move my photo to my PC for backup.
I MOVED all my photos in DCIM photo to Windows and after the transfer is finished, I found out all my photo is actually corrupted in my Windows PC ( with each of the transfered files all hex equal to zerosss )
Since I am using "move to" that why It turns out I lost all my photos because I could neither open it in PC nor found them in my phone anymore.
So, I tried to recover my photo and found out below facts:
1. My photos are stored in my internal storage.
2. I have not turned on samsung cloud nor any cloud backup for my gallery
3. I connected my phone to the PC and have tried 3 different android recovery software but none of them works because they all need to root my phone to work.
4. I directly installed diskdigger app in play store and successfully recovered some thumbnails of those lost photo but the resolution are low and I need the real recovery.
5. I have backed up my whole phone and tried to root my note8 following the guide with galaxynote8root.com. Turns out I stopped at not finding the OEM unlock options.
6. My note8 model is N9500 and my Baseband version is N9500ZCU3CSA2, Android version 8.0.0 and bought it from Hong Kong. Seems it has a qualcomm lock which I cannot root it easily?
7. I have found few article about rooting this model but it is too difficult for me to start with since I dont have any root experience before
I am asking for help with the following question.
1. It is the only way out to the recovery my internal storage lost photo by rooting and scanning my phone after root?
2. Will rooting my phone really wipe out all memory ( I dont know is the storage like a harddisk or memory...) such that I cannot recover my photo even I rooted my phone?
3. Is my model rootable?
4. Can anyone give me a guide / website about how to root this model?
5. Is some local recovery company could handle this kind of case?
My photo is really important to me and please help. Thanks guy for your help.
Updates: I installed Odin3 and I accidentally installed the lastest update of my model which is still unrooted. dont know will it affect my further rooting...
My latest baseband version: N9500ZHU4CSA1
