Ok this is a random one. And it's literally boggling me.
Rooted all of my Samsung's and I'm no stranger to root or droid. But this has me perplexed.
Flashed TWRP - Flashed Magisk. Booted into ROM and froze the LogAgent with TB. Everything was fine for a while. Until later on in the evening I went to make a call and had no signal. ( Calls had been fine all day ) Checked my IMEI and my serial and IMEI were missing. Rebooted phone and IMEI came back and so did calls.
This made me remember to EFS Backup incase of a real IMEI loss. So I used the app posted by a member here in this forum.
Upon opening I grant it root and my phone locks up for around 5 minutes. After said 5 minutes my N8 will force reboot and hang as soon as it's booted to Touchwiz. After manually closing all open apps left after reboot it will run fine. But the EFS Backup tool will definitely not work. ( Just to add the tool never opened a GUI on first boot )
Anyway. Is there a working app for Oreo to EFS Backup? Or am I going to have to do it with ADB?
Flash a Combination firmware to repair your imei permanently then download EFS BACKUP and you are good to go.... Here is a Guide on how to or what is a combination firmware

Dear all.
I recently installed some tweaks onto my Z and I went to turn on the NFC function and it doesn't seem to be working anymore. The last time I turned it on was maybe about 3 weeks ago and it was working fine then.
If I restore from a nand backup, will it restore any system changes I have made within this 2-3 weeks period?
Also, any suggestions on what else I could try?
Thanks :good:
Did you recently rooted your device?
You made a nand backup 3 weeks ago, so when restored, you'll lose all changes done after the 3 weeks.
I rooted it around a month ago. But I used an updated root method which kept the NFC function.
I haven't found any root method that keeps NFC functional - Have you tried the fix here?

If it matters that much, repair and root again (doomlords thread) and get nfc back with that method.
Try this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ts8rbhZpQOQ
(which is the same advice as a post above, with a visual how to)
I actually tried to restore from my nand backup and it failed to mount and resulted in a soft brick. Once I reflashed with a stock rom the problem still persisted i.e. no NFC functionality. I decided to leave it as it's not much of a problem that I didn't have NFC.
But when I rebooted the phone, NFC mysteriously started working again. Dunno what the problem was though
Just re-root with the newest rooting tool of Bin4ry (v28 now), it'll fix NFC bug and reboot bug :good:

Do a a factory reset in recovery mode and thou shall no longer have those errors.
And do not restore apps using titanium backup or any other backup when coming
from a different model of the phone. Only restore apps which were backed up on
the same phone and model. (that's basically what backups were intended to do).
Just in case the "factory reset" in stock recovery does not do the trick for you then
your only solution is to do a factory reset in recovery and odin flash the official
stock Note 4 N910T firmware.
Good luck!

Couldn't of said it better my self. Never restore apps or data. Unless it is the same phone.

First, you shouldn't be messing with a $650 device if you don't know what you're doing. Second, this is a problem with toolkits and inexperienced users. You now have no idea what to do. Third, read, read, read and read some more about fastboot and ADB. Finally, flashing the factory image should fix almost every issue. How do you flash a factory image? There's threads for that, so read.
My device and detailed list of what happened: I started with i537 4.4.2 ne3 rooted with towelroot. i proceeded to follow the thread about upgrading to 5.0.1 lp oc6 and keep root. Followed everything precisely, sucessfully upgraded, but when i proceeded to restore from Titanium, I didnt realize until it was too late that i backed up user AND system apps and data. after that i got neverending "process.gapps..." has stopped working and so on. I realize now i should have only restored my user apps and data. Anyways, i managed to freeze play services so that i can flashfire LP again, btw i used the deodexed version. As i was doing that and clicked flash, i had forgotten to set the screen timeout to 10 min. or more. Now, all that happens is the samsung custom screen with padlock boots up, but just goes black from there and nothing else. I can boot into download mode. Unfortunately I dont have a laptop with me at the moment, i am using ps4 to post, but i wanted to make sure what my next plan of action should be. From what i have gathered im assuming i need to recover via odin. Do I need to recover back to ne3, towelroot, and then start the process again, or can i just recover to oc6 ? Am I forgetting something crucial? with my lack of attention, probably. Thank you in advance and if I have offended anyone with my stupidity compelling someone to respond with a condescending and negative remarks, i am sorry.

You're good. Once you flash back to NE3 with Odin it'll be like you're starting from scratch. So just make sure you follow the directions and definitely don't restore system apps. Typically when I'm updating between different versions of Android I'll let my apps install from the Play Store and then restore any missing data from TiBu, this way I can ensure I'm starting fresh.
Good luck.

I figured that was my mistake when i kept getting notifications non-stop. Ive messed around with root since the epic 4g, but this was actually my first time backing up. All other times I preferred starting fresh and having everything wiped. I dont really know why i decided to change that this time, but i did and without really thinking about it i backed up both user and system.
I just got my laptop with me now and ive downloaded odin 3.07, and full package or something 4.4.2 ne3. now I am searching topics to find a guide. its been years since i used odin and I need to make sure im doing this right.
Thanks
This is just great. I was using odin to restore to ne3 and right after it finished the download mode and started to reboot my computer crashes. now I cant do anything. It wont boot into download mode or recovery mode. The only sign of life is if i plug into my laptop it shows the battery icon with a pinwheel that isnt moving. I cant believe this just happened.
*edit* i just left it alone for a few minutes and tried to boot into download mode which was successful.
Hi, so basically I am trying to root two identical moto e4 plus phones (I have to double check the build numbers, but i am pretty sure they are identical). I did this by unlocking the bootloader, temporary (not permanently) flash twrp, back up the system by twrp, then flash magisk.zip, following the guides I found on this forum.
So the first phone is now rooted without any problems. The second phone always gets stuck when starting the backup in twrp (it stops at "updating partition details"). I wonder why because everything seems to be "identical". Anyways my question is, since the purpose of backing up is in case anything got messed up, would the back-up of the first phone be good for the second phone too? So I can skip doing the back-up on the second phone and go straight to flashing magisk.zip?
Also since there seems to be a problem with twrp on the second phone, would there be a problem with it flashing magisk.zip? I just don't want to get to the point of no returns if I can help it. Many thanks!
