anyone stateside get the april update for note 8 not unkocked - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

it seems theres discernment over any timely updated patch. am i the only without patch, is it my sim or network. forget contacting Samsung or carrier. both blame each other. i hope soon the google enforces a rule and fines carriers if the fail to send monthly updates.

tmoble and verizon both slated the 13th, but nearing mid may, its ridiculously insane no april update.

Thanks for reminding me! My note 8 never updates by itself and always requires me to do it. Just got an update today

I'm on T-mobile running April 1st update without issue.

Just got my notification to update today. On ATT using the unlocked version of the firmware.

Just got April security update this morning on N950U1 (unbranded unlocked).
Now on FW N950U1UEU4CRD7. So again new Bootloader. No issues detected so far.

How do updates work with unlocked sim in different country?

So I live in Ireland, and I bought my P20 Pro on eBay from the UK. It was locked to EE, and so I got it unlocked. Eagerly waiting for EMUI 9.
I'm just wondering, how do updates work in this situation, since I'm not on EE anymore? Do I get updates from my new carrier, or do they come from Huawei from the IMEI number regardless of carrier? Or does it depend on whether I use HiCare, or System>update to update? I got the phone a few weeks ago, and a day or two later it updated itself to the October update 8.1.0.159(c782).
Do all carriers customise the updates themselves, eg, in each country, to add their own bloat and other stuff?
Does my new carrier even have my IMEI on file? Will they send me an update?
Just a bit confused by this, having unlocked a phone and using it in a different country..
I am interested as well. I am in the USA and we have 0 carrier support so not sure if i'll get any updates...

Yea, as I mentioned above, I got an update a few days after I got the phone, after I unlocked the sim, but I don't know if it came from Huawei or my new carrier. It was called the October update.
The phone was only first activated in the UK, in September, by the first owner, (and mid December, in Ireland, by me) but I don't know if the original owner used it much, if at all. The charger still had the plastic on it and the sim removal tool was still in place in the box. So I'm thinking it was maybe a gift or a work phone.
I'm guessing the update came from my Irish carrier, as otherwise the October update (159) would probably have happened soon after turning it on, but I didn't get it until after the sim was unlocked, which took a day or two.

last to the party

Looks like Sprint is gonna be the last in updating the v40 to pie the merger with T-Mobile needs to happen soon

I agree I'm not a big fan of T-Mobile splash screen
We in South Africa will get the Pie update only next month (July 2019). I asked for a official confirmation, but is so much a peep from them. My model is LM-V405EB.

Vodacom device Pie update already rolling out.
I have a Vodacom device but use it on Telkom. I further asked LG about the Pie update and they promised a response but up to now there is nothing.
I'm on T-mobile stateside and received Pie last week.
Sprint just pushed an update to their v40. They pushed the June security patch....They pushed a monthly security patch weeks after every other carrier has started pushing Pie. What an absolute farce.

October Security Update for USA Unlocked?

Been seeing stories that the October security update was pushed by Samsung for the S20 FE. I've got the USA unlocked model and haven't seen any updates yet. Have they pushed it in the USA yet? Have any of the big carriers pushed it yet?
I haven't got it either. I think sometimes it has something to do with your sim card, even on the unlocked model. I use Visible, so I'm probably not getting it for a while lol.

I don't think that's the issue. The only country the update is being pushed out to at the moment is Germany from what I read on another web site. Hopefully we will be getting it stateside soon. If you have an unlocked like myself then your carrier does not have anything to do with firmware updates.
get the FW manually and force it on the phone with Odin
October update finally arrived this morning for US unlocked. No notification. Just tried a manual update check and there it was.

cant find the U1 firmware yet, but here is the G781B fw https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-s20-fe/firmware/#SM-G781B
very likely need patched Odin to flash it. Buyer beware tho, if the U1 FW isnt out yet and you successfully flash any of these, you cant go back until the FW is released
I received ATJ5 update earlier when I manually checked for updates. Seems stable. Touchscreen issues seem much much better so far.

NOT for me. I'm on USA unlocked and just checked. Nothing.
Nothing yet on my USA T-mobile version
Been using my unlocked S20 FE (G781U1) for about a week now, that I got directly from Samsung, and still no updates. Stuck on the September security update.
Coming from an unlocked Pixel 3 that I used for 2 years, this is really weird! I always thought unlocked versions were the first to get the updates.

So, I've noticed that for some reason Samsung unlocked devices seem to get their updates pushed immediately AFTER the big 3 carriers have pushed their updates for some reason.
I'm using the Unlocked version on ATT, and I received the October security update on the 24th. Touch issues do seem improved, no complaints so far.
I've been following this on Reddit and Facebook. Nobody I know or have seen post that has an Unlocked model on T-Mobile is getting the update. If you swap the SIM out for a non-T-Mobile SIM, it will allow it to update. I actually tried an AT&T SIM today, saw it allowed an update, swapped my T-Mobile SIM back in, then it said no updates available (on September patch).
This makes no sense why T-Mobile is not sending the updates to UNLOCKED phones. I have submitted tickets to both Samsung and T-Mobile regarding this delay. No major response except for: "we're working on it". Unacceptable.

That's both crazy and annoying, but having been with T-Mobile for a few years I can't say I'm surprised. They've been last to the party more often than not when it comes to updates. Do you know if T-Mobile has pushed the October update to the T-Mobile (non-unlocked) variant of this device?? I bet they haven't yet.
I just successfully forced the update, see my new thread here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s20-fe/help/successfully-forced-october-update-t4183325

Pixel 5 OTA monthly update

When will we get the December security update, Samsung got thirs before us
google drop it on the first monday of every month unless it's a public holiday in the US i.e. september (labor day) which is then a tuesday (i.e. when android 10 last year and 11 this year dropped)
Usually 2/3pm eastern (7/8pm UTC)
Thanx
Its available now at https://developers.google.com/android/ota
Once again Verizon update delayed a week until the 14th.
Just got December security update
For clarification because my unlocked 3XL OTAs never had separate carrier updates like this: the Verizon update is for ALL phones (unlocked and VZ locked) on the Verizon network?
If so, does this have to do with the mmwave 5G network configuration?
Locked AT&T Pixel 5 - installing now.

This is ridiculous. On my unlocked Pixel 2 XL i never had to wait on vzw. I always got updates the same time all other pixels go them.

Yes, I believe I read that was the reason a few weeks ago.

Same, but what makes you think its carrier dependent? Visible phones are the same as ones sold by Google and/or Bestbuy as unlocked. I am thinking to download the "RQ1A.201205.011" from Google and ADB-sideload it via recovery, but kinda waiting to see if nobody has just done this and had nasty consequences, such as data wipe, bootloops, etc. I am not eager to hard-reset.
So I updated to the december security patch and after I flashed my magisk patched boot.img the battery icon in the status bar is acting weird. It looks empty with no white in the middle, anyone else getting this?
EDIT: NEVERMIND, found out the issue was my 9 tiles magisk module, after removing the battery icon was back to normal.

I got the OTA update yesterday.
You can follow the Release of OTA Updates here https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/stock-ota-updates-changelogs-07-12-2020.4185209/
I Update the thread/OP only after the Update is available usually within an hour after Google published it
I'm a bit confused by the various carrier flavors of OTA -- I purchased my (unlocked) pixel 5 from the google store but I use ATT for carrier service.
Will flashing the ATT flavor lock my device in some capacity? Or is that just for radio?
Thank you!!

Good question, i'd usually assume ROM doesn't affect SIM lock in any way or form, but i'd be reluctant to flash an update that contains a carrier junk in it, and possibly a locked bootloader i may end up being unable to reflash again.
I really don't think the ROM you flash should depend on the carrier you are currently on, and i wouldn't flash a carrier-customized one.
Why would you want to flash the ATT version on it?
I have the VZW version and it sucks they aren't releasing the update till next week. What is in the build that's different from the non-vzw versions? Hate vzw but the black friday deal was too good to pass up.
Anybody knows anything about any fixes and functional changes besides the feature drop? Each month, Google lists the Pixel specific fixes like this:
Google Android Pixel Security Update - November 2020 - Google Pixel Community
support.google.com
This month, the accoring page just talks about "several fixes and improvements across many areas including performance, stability, battery, and more":
Google Android Pixel Security Update - December 2020 - Google Pixel Community
support.google.com
I am really interested in knowing wether the infamous "GPay payments fail" issue was fixed for the P5.
If I bought the unlocked Pixel 5 from the google store and have verizon as my carrier, which OTA should I sideload?

The one that's coming on 14.12.2020. Verizon builds are always a week behind.

Security Update Schedule?

Sorry if this is obvious this is literally the first Samsung phone I've ever had.
Is there a schedule for the security updates like Google does with first Monday of the month or just when Samsung decides they're ready? Just wondering when to expect the march patch is all.
Well, actually, sorry to say, but that IS up to your Carrier! True, Google makes a monthly "update", but Never can truly know what Samsung is doing!
That said, to get a true "Update" is totally up to the darn Carrier... (which can suck for those on buget carriers,... March up could be September's update)
Welly device isn't carrier branded if the matters it's completely unlocked
