Hello!
Sometimes, especially when downloading an app from Play store, when installing finishes, screen in XZ2 flashes for like 0.1sec. It goes very bright for a moment and then everything goes back to normal. Anyone knows why is that? I'm up to date with everything, ans have disabled everything connected with screen in settings, including adaptive brightness.

Do you use additional screen white balance in settings? It looks like this was the trigger for me. In certain situations it looks like phone forgot the options for color calibration and moment later was back to definied settings. So I set them back to default and since then no problem (despite more bluish screen comparing to custom white ballance settings of course )

Now let me just say i love this phone.. but thought i cant have this.. so i fill out support form for htc and they reply quick advising me it should not do this and to get it changed. i contact three go through the whole call centre thing (like pulling teeth) anyways the upshot was.. three sent me another brand new phone the next day (yesterday) and took back my first one. And guess what? as soon as i switch the phone on, same screen flicker? i treated the first phone like a new born baby didnt drop or bash it 4 days=screen flicker. another new phone as soon as i use it = screen flicker!! i so love this phone but im so gutted!! any suggestions from ANYONE would help.

This isn't helpful but you must just be unlucky to have had it happen twice because mine's been perfect and I've not seen anyone else on this forum mention that problem with theirs.
I guess you'll have to get a new one sent out again and hope for the best
Could you make a short video clip to illustrate your problem ?

hi.. to be honest i dont think a video would pick the problem up? you know i could just be being a kill joy? ive watched videos etc and there really isnt a problem with that at all.. in fact the quality of the picture is fab? if i could use an analogy? remember when the volume control on your stereo would get dust in it? and you would have to twiddle the knob to cure it? its a bit like that? like i say it does not do it all the time but i notice it with white in the screen? like facebook google and when i am navigating thru the screens on the phone like settings etc? the white flickers white/slightly darker white? hence my example? now ive changed my text messages colour scheme so that doesnt annoy me now with it.. but obviously as a electronics layman.. i cant help but think if it was a problem with the screen itself, other colours would do the same as they would if there was a loose connestion? and also if it was a power flow problem with the battery? same thing? not just the white on screen? so i can only conclude as a layman again.. that it is some sort of issue with the os? screen refresh rate maybe? i just dont know? and i cant help think stupidly or not that when htc finally get around to an os update to 4.2.2 (or whatever it is) from 4.1.2 the whole thing will be resolved?
Could it be the auto brightness doing its thing? Try turning it off maybe that might solve it.
I might be totally wrong, be great if that fixed it though. Good luck
well well well!!!! And there you have it!! or at least something like that? ive always used the multi widgit for wifi bluetooth brightness etc? so i have brightness preset on that. instead ive gone into display settings, adjusted brightness with slider? no more flicker!! Was this happening when the stock power widget brightness was set to medium?
If so, I have the same flickering ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2243483 ), but I've found out that its not the power widgets fault per se, but the the the level that it sets it to. The widget set the brightness to 33%, and that the level which I'm getting flickering at, regardless of if it was set with the power widget or by the slider. The flickering happens on screen with a good amount of white. Google search result webpage is a good test case; it shows the flickering clearly at 33%. It also seems to depend on where the white is on the screen. For example, I can induce flickering at 40% brightness by moving a light colored icon from the bottom of the screen to the top! Moving it back to the bottom causes the flickering to go away. I can also do it by moving around or resizing the Gmail widget. Flickering happens for me to some extent at brightness values between 33 and 45 under certain screen conditions. Above or below these brightness values, the screen is top notch, no endless flickering at all regardless of how much white is on screen. I'm starting to think this has to do with the dynamic contrast feature of the One. It seems as though it falls in an endless loop of trying to change the contrast, as if it cant decide on what to set the contrast to. Or it could be that the dynamic contrast is fighting for a certain brightness value, but the manually set brightness is not allowing it. I might be wrong about this, and it could just be a hardware backlight problem, regardless, I wish HTC had the Sense (ha ha!) to allow us to disable dynamic contrast if we wanted to. I'm pretty sure this is whats causing the issue where people see flickering when the keyboard pops up.
screen issue?
hi..
i had the widget set on the third setting, the fourth being the brightest. i had the same problem with my first phone and thought at the time it may have been a backlight problem? or power flow problem? i sent that phone back and the next phone did the same? after posting on here.. i removed the widget and manually adjusted the brightness. i like the screen quite bright, manual adjustment cleared the problem for me. i gotta say yep the flicker was more visible on screens with alot of white, google, facebook, texts? and way way annoying! i can only suggest you try the same as i did? perhaps it is just a quirk with the htc? or maybe the os? you never know, when the update to keylime or whatever it is called comes out the flicker may go totally?
JUST had this on facebook? hope it helps?

hi dear
i have the same problem,in the manual brightness situation, i have screen flickering in white background,do you think, htc will solve this problem with OTA update or not...

hello to all,
So I've recently noticed this happening on my mi5 32GB variant. Whenever I close an app, after using it for sometime, a diminished part of that app remain even after closing it.
for example, if I use FB app for sometime and when I close it and go to homescreen, near the upper part of the screen I can see the diminished part of the FB app ( the upper part of FB app) even after closing it.
This can be viewed better if I go to recent apps screen. Since it has a greyish background the image can be viewed better. This is more prominent in the upper corners of the screen, but it also visible on the lower corners as well.
This happens when the phone becomes hot after working for sometime. If I leave it locked and idle for sometime, that image fades away and everything becomes normal. But if I start using the phone again for sometime, the problem comes back.
I kind of think this is something wrong with the lcd panel because if I take a screenshot (of the homescreen/recent apps menu when the problem persists) and view it through the PC it looks fine.
I've flashed both lineage OS and xiaomi.eu ROMs and this happens in both of them.
My phone has a LGD panel.
If anyone here has previously encountered this problem or if anybody have any idea about why this is happening and/or whether there are any solutions for this, I would really appreciate your help
I think its called a screen burn issue. Dont have a solution though

right ... I suspected something like this coz it happens only when the phone is hot. I didn't knew the correct term for that ....
thanks for the reply buddy. appreciate it
It's image retention. Which happen quite frequently on ips display made by LG. Many LG's flagship also suffer this symptom. The only way you can reduce it is by reducing the amount of RGB(Red green blue) colour profile by 5-7% though only doable in LOS.

Look under display calibration and change your RGB values accordingly: R: 93% G:93% B93% . It works like a charm :highfive: I use LineageOS although not all ROMs have this feature.

yeah use the LOS 14.1 and adjust the RGB to 90. I suppose it hides the retention effect. To fix the problem completely, I think the only option is the replace the screen.
some people are using KCAL which essentially provides the same options( and more) but keep in mind that it needs root access and kernel modifications.
I've been using Lineage OS nightlies for the past two to three months now with little issues apart from random stuttering which seems to stem from poor memory management. It's sad to see such good specs go to waste. By far the biggest issue I've had is that the screen doesn't seem to be calibrated correctly and this results in what looks to be burn in, which is very noticeable on the top of the screen next to the notifications, due to the high contrast of the icons in that area. I was suggested an app called colour switcher which is meant to dim down the screen a little which got rid of the burn in, but it effects performance, battery life, and degrades the phone into a stuttering mess directly after a boot up.
Is this issue known and is there a fix for it?
used this app, worked for me https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blasterbyte.burn_infix&hl=en
Color control app
I had the same issue, there's no need to download any apps.
Go to Settings -> Display -> LiveDisplay -> Colour calibration and put Red, Green and Blue to 90%.
This fixed it for me and I can't see any burn-in(ghosting, whatever) anymore.
Hope it helps.

Is this a display manufacturer thing? I have been using LOS and AOSP for at least a year, and have not experienced any of these
So after this much anticipated Oreo release, my display has been left faded looking. It's as though you have the brightness turned all the way up which washes out the color, but even when it's turned down. It's rather frustrating & sRGB is not ticked. Please tell me this isn't the new display & what I could possibly do to change it.
Edit: Also just realized when I change my screen mode in display settings, nothing happens. I can even turn the red, green and blue all the way down with no effect. Anyone else experiencing this issue with Oreo?
Have to say no, that has not happened for me. Display looks the same and changing display settings changes the screen for me. Perhaps a reboot might help...
Do a Full reset, sounds like the ota bugged your settings out.
I've been on Oreo since the release and haven't had any issues with screen color or resolution.
Did you proceed to do the above posted steps? I myself would also say to factory reset the system.
If so, would you mind letting us know how it went and if it fixed the issue at hand.
The only place I've noticed something like this, is when using Google Maps through Android Auto, with my Vehicles display. I get the faded or Ghosting on the display. If I change from maps, to phone and back to maps it's fine again. But it's only temporary. This all started after I got the Oreo update. I'm still actively troubleshooting to find out if the cable is the problem or if it's related to the phone.
after 2 resets im good. started device as new and bo restoration of apps/go from there
I noticed at bedtime that this phone's panel didn't get those deep blacks we come to expect from samsung panels, i remeber in 2012 i had the same issue with my galaxy S2, i can see the black being lit like it was an LCD panel.
black image 0% brightness at 60hz = i can clearly see the display back-light.
black image 0% brightness at 120hz = it behaves like an amoled panel should, i can't see a thing.
The phone is running the latest software, oneui 3.1 + May patch.
Is this a known software bug? I think i'll return this phone because of this.

Definitely not my eyes unfortunately.
Try clearing the system cache
Try a hard reboot
Doesn't it have variable display frequency depending on what you're viewing ie static picture vs scrolling?
Could that be coming into play?
A glitch. You can't clear the graphic driver data but maybe the apk that controls the variable rate if separate from that.
You haven't done any major firmware upgrades, right?
I haven't play with the higher refresh rate displays, pretty much love my 10+/Pie.
Otherwise...
If you're within your return window, do so.

I've not personally used an S20 FE , but am a samsung user myself.
it should be pitch black.
are you sure the picture was absolute black and not slightly gray ?
if it was an absolute black image , the screen should not emit no light at all irrespective of what brightness you put it in , since it is black.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking about. No need to send for replacement since the same is with all units. Not a big problem for me since I like to use 120hz even if it drains more battery.
I got the same issue. It seems to be a software issue, because it only happens in always on display. If I open a black image the screen comes completely black. Weird bug.
There is a setting for variable current verses pulse modulation for brightness, I can't recall what they call it. Try using the variable current setting.

I have auto brightness in AOD disabled (and the normal auto brightness too) but the bug is still there. I configured it to max brightness so I notice it a little less
I am using the samsung galaxy A 52s 5g.
It has the exact same issue, the AOD and lockscreen behave like a LCD panel with a yellowish tint when the refresh rate is set on 60Hz.
Though everything else is fine, other screens and apps.
If set at 120Hz then AOD and lockscreen behave normally.
I don't what this is.. maybe samsung did not optimise their 60Hz setting properly.
