Hi! Does screen mirroring work on Nokia 7 plus?
Because I can't share phone screen on my LG smart TV (it works fine on mate 9).
Thanks
I did it couple of times with Chromecast, but I did it from Google Home app. It work as expected.
Ok with chromecast , but do you know if screen share works with miracast ?
Stock Android doesn't support miracast which makes it a no go on Android One phones just like the Pixel phones, it's something 3rd party manufacturers add if they want to in their own custom additions to Android.
Thanks !
What? Ouw snap why I bought this rubbish
I am using a Nokia 7 plus and have found that it is capable of screen mirroring without chromecast.
Go to developer options.
Under 'networking' you'll find the "wireless display certification" option.
Turn it on and then go to cast, you'll find some new options. You don't need to do anything more.
Just turn on the device you want to cast too and it will appear in the cast menu in settings.

Great find. Thank you.
Edit: I couldn't make it work.
I noticed that the settings only show up on screen when the WiFi is on. If the WiFi isn't on the cast setting only shows "no nearby devices found".
For reference I've given screenshots here quora/Does-the-Nokia-7-Plus-have-screen-mirroing

I had the WIFI on, but in Developer options I did not have enabled the WIFI Coverage Extended Feature.
The settings were showing, but could not find the TV (a Samsung TV).
Maybe need to do some settings on the tele also.
I'll try again later today.
Works fine. I had to enable the option on the tv also.
Thank you
Well if you check out nokiapoweruser's sites he made a tutorial video of the process from a comment I posted the day before yesterday.
Just remember that even the display you want to cast to should be expecting it. For a laptop it would be the 'project to this laptop's option. Might be something similar for the TV too.

nokia 7 plus ta-1062 here.. even if I turn on the wireless certification option in developer options. I still don't see anything in the cast window. not even the extra items added when you enable wireless certification. just plain blank page. already did factory reset. upgraded to latest July 1 2019 update. Still nothing.

CCast is capable of mirroring but it does not use Miracast to do so and currently Google has not supported the feature yet.
We KNOW it is capable of doing it as it does it on the PC side in the Googlecast Ext for chrome.
I do expect they will support it in the future and if not them then some 3rd Party Dev will make it and Google will hopefully white list it.
Mirroring has some concerns over Privacy and I'm sure Google doesn't want to allow an unsecure implementation that could get the bad rep of being a privacy problem and send the concept into the scrap heap.

LOL it's hard enough to get people to read and search for previous posts that have solved their problem here... you expect them to start using Google too?
Just FYI to everyone....we KNOW the CCast can do Mirroring as the GoogleCast Ext for chrome does this already on the PC. Unfortunately the holdup on seeing this on the Android side is not the Chromecast but Chrome itself!
The Mobile versions of Chrome do not at this point support Chrome Extensions which means you can't run the Googlecast extension at this time.
If you have a PC click on the Googlecast icon, Look in the upper right hand corner of the menu it presents click on the little down arrow, and see that you can Cast an Entire Screen (noted as Experimental).
So the CCast has this capability!
Just a matter of creating an App for Android and iOS that does this, Making it secure for Privacy concerns, and Whitelisting it.
The fact they are experimenting with it on a PC tells you everything you need to know about Google's Intentions regarding Mirroring.
It's coming the only thing we don't know is when!

Hi All,
Brought a chromecast about 2 weeks ago to watch films off a site called showbox. When connecting my moto x 2nd gen to my chromecast the image quality is really poor.... really really poor! The playback is horrid and even swiping screens there is a huge delay. I've tried other apps such like iplayer, youtube etc and they are just as bad.
I couldnt manage to get the "cast screen" option on quick settings to find my device so have had to install app and run that way.
Chromecast does work fine when casting from IOS device's in household.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Darren
Screen casting in my experience is rough no matter the device.
YouTube should be of good quality because the streaming occurs via the Chromecast and not your phone, so I am not sure what is wrong there.

Sounds like you are screen mirroring everything? That's not a good way to do things. Screen mirroring is a last resort. Any app that is Chromecast compatible use it's inbuilt cast option. The Chromecast will then deal directly with loading a receiver app and getting a good quality stream
For showbox...? Not sure, but if you can open and play the videos in Android Chrome you can direct cast from Chrome. Alternatively if you can copy the stream url use LocalCast or BubbleUPNP to cast from the steam url.
My Moto G 1st-gen is about to get updated to Android 5, so I was wondering if that would enable screen casting to the Chromecast. If it works on the Moto X, I guess it will. But it doesn't sound like anybody is too thrilled with the performance.
In any case, a much better solution for casting from any web streaming app is to see if it has the option to output to "Other" video player. You can choose something like LocalCast or Avia and cast it properly to the Chromecast. That works for the app the OP mentioned, which BTW is not supposed to be discussed here on xda, so keep the discussion generic if you don't want the thread to be locked.

Screen casting (from the Chromecast App) works on my 1st Gen Moto G on 4.4.4. I use it a lot to cast photo slideshows with music (something that is still not available on a cast enabled app....why???). Performance is fine for that use case. Noticeable decline in image quality if I make it an animated gif slideshow with music. To be fair I'm also streaming the music/pics to the phone in the first place which is putting additional overhead on the wifi.
Thanks! I did not even notice that the Cast Screen feature had been added to the Chromecast app for my Moto G on Android 4.4.4. It works reasonably well for me even though it says "not optimized". Looks like it came with Chromecast app version 1.9.6 in early December.
I guess I didn't notice when this capability was added because I normally use the Chromecast with my tablet that's on an older version of Android, and the Cast Screen function does not appear on the Chromecast menu there. I'm surprised I didn't see it mentioned more prominently in this forum. I just took a quick look back, and aside from a brief post ending the previous "Experimental" screen casting thread, it doesn't seem like there were any threads about it.

My device is rooted, and it still doesn't work. It worked with my Moto X Play. I have a 2015 Sony Bravia TV.
Can you describe what you did to get it working?

goto settings>display>cast (last option) , click the screen to cast , better to play from youtube app and then press the cast option from there it will only cast the youtube
Its working fine for me, everytime but only with the cast devices or TV , yes it don't have wireless cast ( not needed for hardware casting) so it work on any soft based cast systems , you can use third part apps to get cast/mirror on device

Remove # from this line on build.prop, save and reboot.
I'd rather not do that, as it breaks OTA updates.

Well, why not do it temporarily to see if it works. Can always change back.
Not as if OTA updates are happening every day.

Hi I have Moto g6 with no root and I am trying to cast video's (not YouTube ) to my smart TV which has WiFi and my son's Samsung can be seen on the TV
I tried settings display cast ...but it says no device found and no option to search for device.also from the top menu on screen it has a cast button that actually searches but alas nothing found
Any ideas please
Is your device on your WiFi? Also, is it a Chromecast tv? Because if the TV uses Miracast, or mirroring, it won't work. The g6 is capable of casting via Chromecast protocol, but not Miracast.

I just checked mine recently. Assuming being close to stock Android that it had Miracast. (My nuxus' all had it) but when digging in the settings, I never found it in the usual places. I have the g6 play though, so I wasn't 100% sure.
It's strange but it can cast YouTube video?? Just not tea TV app

Yes, there's a cast button on the YouTube app on your phone, but it will still be casting through the YouTube app on your TV.
u need to edit/add a line on build.prop
i'll just check an add here

ok so the option on every motorola phone used to be under screen settings but wouldn't work. we would edit a line on build.prop to make it work. now even editing the line doesn't work, the option isn't even there anymore (I've updated to Pie already, but on Oreo I had done that).
