Hi just got the 7 plus.
I connected the phone using WiFi hotspot of my main phone.
When I try to update it during setup, it looks like it's going to start then it says waiting for Wi-Fi. I skipped that part then went on to set up my email using said wifi, which worked.
I then came back to update the phone and it keeps giving me the same message.
I switched the SIM card and downloaded some apps because it won't even download any app, and downloading the update won't work that way as it requires WiFi.
Browsing works though as does YouTube and the Reddit app am using while on the hotspot.
Is there anything I can do to get the update on my phone?
Phone was bought from UK though I'm in Nigeria now. Don't know if that matters.
Unchecked the metered connection on the Nokia so now it downloads apps but still not the update. Keeps giving me the same message. The model of my phone is TA-1055
Is there anyway I could get the update?
Thanks in advance.

I've purchased a Milestone X720 for my wife, but I found the internal WiFi to work erratically at best.
It seems like it has no problem connecting to Google.com webpage (also it can sync mails and contacts), but when trying to access any other webpages (bbc.co.uk, espn.com, etc.) using the browser, it's always timing out. I know it's not a problem with my WiFi / internal network / router /internet connection, because I can navigate just fine using my HTC Desire or home laptops.
It worked for a while yesterday afternoon, then this morning wasn't able to connect to any website.
The wifi connection is using DHCP, and it shows a correct internal IP address and an excellent signal level. I don't think there's much more things I can tweak in the phone configuration, or isn't there?
Maybe it is a defective phone? Did someone experienced something like this? Should I return it and exchange it for a new one?
I'd appreciate any help.
Alex.
Actually, I've been having problems with my wifi. My wifi will stop working on any webpage at seemingly random intervals (I used to think it was when it went into sleep, but it happens when it's not in sleep now also). Eventually after restarting wifi so many times it'll glitch up and I have to restart the phone.
Providing your phone's stock (as in you haven't rooted it or the like) I'd recommend going to your carrier about the problem.
EDIT: I just checked through the posts on this board and some guy was having another problem with his wifi (different from both of ours though), he suggested getting WifiPowerSavingOff off the market, I'll try it and tell you if it fixes my problem. The only problem is it requires root access, I don't even know if it will fix your problem so you're better off sending the phone back (especially since rooting voids your warrenty). One other thing you could try is just a factory reset, it sounds like a software problem so that might work wonders, you might have to reactivate your phone afterwards though.
Well, thank you for your response.
WiFi was working OK when I came back from work, but is not working now.
The phone is unbranded unlocked, so I'll probably have to talk to the seller.
I tried to see if there was an update from Motorola, but every time I go to the System Updates it says that it is unable to connect to the server, so there's probably no available update for this phone yet.

If it's unlocked OTA updates (updating through the settings) are probably disabled, because installing OTA updates will make you lose root (I'm assuming your phone also is rooted if it was unlocked by the seller). do you know what baseband your using right now? Also, have you installed rom manager or anything that can make nandroid backups?
I might be wrong, but I don't think it's rooted, I think it's just the way it's sold, SIM free and unlocked from factory, not by the seller.
Baseband is 3GSMEPU91A_U_91.07.56I
Well if you wanna double check, just look to see if a superuser permissions app is installed (if you don't find one it's not rooted), I never knew they sold them unlocked (although I'm in the US... so I doubt they do here). All I can say is to try a factory reset then, if that doesn't work then talk to the seller. It sounds like more of a software problem since Google works.
In the end it seems there is some kind of incompatibility between the phone and my WiFi router (a Belkin G). Yesterday I managed to borrow another WiFi router (Netgear) and it works flawlessly when connected to this AP.
I will keep testing during the weekend but I'm pretty sure this was the cause.
Thanks Shiny for your help.
Hi. I picked up a milestone via Ebay two days ago and had similar wi-fi issues. After reading a number of forums I discovered that the problem lay with my router - Siemans Gigaset SE587 (Tiscali). The wireless channel or regulatory domain was set to auto channel 1. I think this confuses the phone so with the help of the router manual I disabled auto and reset it to channel 13.
Wi-fi works flawlessly now and it hasn't affected my other devices. The link below might help.
I'm wondering, does "Settings >> Software Update >> Check for update" do anything besides give a message that it's "communicating" for seemingly forever?
Do you need to have APN enabled for this to work, maybe? (I'm on WiFi most of the time, so I disable APN)
BTW, I'm running stock for now because I still have 2 weeks to decide if I wanna keep this thing.
Im sure its not going to work now. But i imagine once att starts the OTA update thats how we will get it.
Running on 3G I get a message that there is no update available, it comes pretty quick. If you try again it says you can only try once every 24 hours. I've never tried it on wifi.
Sent from my Samsung Captivate via XDA app
Try it on 3G. I would guess that you need to be on the cell network to do this, but I've never tried on wifi...
Thanks, guys! Yeah, using 3g instead of WiFi was the answer.
I'm almost always on WiFi since I get such a bad signal where I live. I guess if there's ever an update, I'll need to drive into town to do it. lol
Hi,
I just got an old (original) Motorola Droid from my son. It was was taken out of service, so it's got no phone service, just WIFI. He flashed it to 2.2 before he gave it to me.
Almost everything seems to work ok on it: I can connect to my WIFI network, browse, etc. Market works, Flash works after I installed from Market.
I installed Netflix from the Market, and it starts up ok, but then I get a popup error that says:
"Please make sure that your device has network connectivity and the Date and Time settings are accurate."
and it kind of just hangs the Netflix app at that point.
Does anyone know what the problem might be, and how to get Netflix working in this case?
I'm guessing that it might be looking for a phone network connection or something?
Thanks,
Jim
Hi,
My son has a friend with a same (original) Droid, with the same firmware, but his phone is still active on Verizon, and he's able to get Netflix app to work on it.
He (my son) said that he thinks that he has another friend that also has a Droid that's deactivated, and he's going to ask him to try to see if Netflix will work on that.
If that latter doesn't work and get that same error message, I'm guessing that it's, as I mentioned above, trying to connect to Netflix via the 3G, rather than over the WIFI.
Anyone know if it's possible to get the Netflix app to use only WIFI?
I had a similar problem with Sipdroid this weekend when I tried to get that to work. It actually, at one point, connected me to a Verizon operator, presumably over the Verizon wireless network. Sipdroid has a configuration setting that allows you to tell it to use only WIFI, and once I set that, Sipdroid worked ok over WIFI. I think that I need to find some kind of setting in the Netflix app to do something similar.

Hi,
I just got off the phone with Netflix support. I don't know if the person that I spoke to actually knew what he was saying, but he said that the Droid is not "on their list of supported phones", so according to him, it would then try to "connect to their website".
I didn't think that I needed the build.prop changes, because I'm not getting an "unsupported device" message, plus, like I said, my son's friend has it working on his identical (except it's still on Verizon) phone, but I'm going to try some of those build.prop hacks, to see if that makes a difference.
Jim
Hi,
For the record, no joy with changing the build.prop. That seems to be ineffective.
So, I'm still stuck on this...
Anyone?
Thanks,
Jim
Hi,
I had left the phone on the Netflix error screen and it went to sleep last night, and when I woke up this a.m., and woke it, there was a different msg saying that it couldn't access some web site.
So, I started thinking that it was a firewall problem, and I put the phone's IP address in my router's DMZ, and VOILA!!
Got Netflix !!

This isn't a major issue, but I don't seem to be able to connect to a college's WPA2-PSK network. I can establish a connection, but I'm never able to access the Internet. I've gone through the login page, and yet it refuses to work properly. I didn't have any trouble connecting on my Nexus 7 and laptop, yet my MotoX has trouble.
I just recently upgraded to 4.4.2, using the Safestrap method. I'm obviously rooted. I can't think of any apps installed on my phone that aren't installed on my tablet that could be causing this issue. I don't know if its a 4.4.2 issue, because my GF has a MotoX (AT&T) and she's on 4.4, and has been connecting fine for months. I upgraded to 4.4.2 just two days ago... And this is the first time I've tried connecting to this type of network.
Any ideas? I appreciate any and all help.

Just some general troubleshooting thoughts:
1. Try logging in using different browsers. may help.
2. How exactly did you upgrade? Did you clean flash? Did you leave the data intact to keep you apps and app data?
3. Did you restore with Titanium Backup?
Lastly, what kind of WiFi network is it?, what do you mean "this type of network..."? does internet work at all? and if you're signing in with her account they could be limiting the amount of devices signed in.
Hi all.
Yesterday evening I did a Play Store update via WiFi at a friends and afterwards the WiFi would turn on by itself. I noticed it because I kept getting the connection is unstable message after I manually turned WiFi off. The phone was trying to connect to a neighbor's open network that is just out of range.
This is the second time I've seen this problem and I'm assuming that since both phones were unrooted stock with all the bloatware disabled in app manager that the problem was with one of the 20 plus apps that updated. I uninstalled all the downloaded apps but it had no affect on the problem I went through all the settings for networks and didn't find any changes. What's the chances that one of the apps I downloaded was compromised. It freaked me out so much I hard reset the phone both times. I currently have set the Play Store to manual updates only so I can catch the culprit if it happens again my questions are is there way to view a log of what uses the the WiFi ? And how can I prevent this kind of problem in the future. And has this happened to anyone else?
Thanks much for your time and consideration
