Hello,
*
Since a few months I use a car stereo double din Android 5.1 brand Eincar.
*
Everything works fine except the virtual keyboard.
*
As soon as I want to use the keyboard it is necessary to enter the language and input settings to disable the physical keyboard, we can then use the virtual keyboard.
*
It must be done with each reboot of the device.
*
How to permanently disable the physical keyboard. ?

Ok, I've searched for this a few times actually, and all I got was Cyanogen's attempt to fix the physical keyboard input a few updates ago. That didn't work so well, and he ended up removing it. So for the actual
question...Is there ANY way to use the IME touch keyboard without having it interfere with the physical keyboard? To make things clearer, whenever i type with the physical keyboard, it'll try to auto correct me and the
"alt" key on the right side doesn't work. So yeah, if someone can find a fix to that, it would be huge to me and I'm sure lots of other people on this forum because I'm not the first one to complain about it. Thanks a lot!
As of now, the closest you can do will also turn off auto-correction on the touch keyboard :/
I have noticed this too. It is very annoying. I just decided to turn off auto correction.
I searched for awhile ago and found if you press the "menu" button twice while the black suggestion screen is up, it will turn off the auto suggestion thing.
From time to time it will show back up, but just hit the "menu" button twice and it will hide itself until you touch the text field (that seems to enable it).

Thanks, I was getting tired of the FCs with auto correct too. That helps a lot.
another work around, close the keyboard and open it up again while the autocorrect bar is up. It usually goes away when you do that.

Thanks, that seems like an easy temporary fix to this problem. Hopefully sometime in the near future, someone will figure it out!
---- v3.9.9
* Rolled back to the old Launcher (the Advanced Launcher can be found here)
* Fixed the HTC_IME so it doesn't mess with the hardware keyboard (if you have problems, uninstall and reinstall the apk)
* Ported the lazy-dexopt code from donut for development. You need to set ro.build.type to "eng" to use this.
* Updated enhanced Mms app
* Fixed scrolling issues
* Other internal guts from donut
* Automatically enables compcache with no backing swap if you don't have a userinit.sh
* Updated system/xbin tools
* Included htop
* Added links in ramdisk and lib/hw for sapphire
* We are pretty much stable at this point, unless critical bugs are found
^cyanogen's post
Well I'm on 4.1.7 and with auto correction enabled it's still messing with the hardware keyboard.

Probably because he added a new HTC_IME from hero
if the curser is already in the feild that u want to type in and u click it agian it enables the spell check thing from the ime to pop up when using the hard kb
Guys an easy fix for this is to hit Alt + Space Bar . That is a shortcut to bring up the symbols dialog, just hit the back button and BAM. no more auto-correction. At least until you mistakenly tap inside an already selected box which turns auto-correction back on
I was wondering if this issue had been addressed or if there is any other way to turn it off.
The Alt+Space works great. But just wondering if there has been a permant solution to this.
Hi all,
is it possible to stop the onscreen keyboard being displayed when you are using a BT or USB keyboard?
It just wastes half of the screen when you don't need to see the onscreen keyboard.
thanks,
Rich
Try disabling the keyboards from language and inputs.
but I presume on of them is system persistent. But just try and let us know.
There is a Null Keyboard app that just does nothing. I installed that and select it when I use an external keyboard.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wparam.nullkeyboard
Thanks Null Keyboard is what I need. Shame there isn't an option to do it through the system. It seems pretty obvious that if you have an external keyboard connected, you aren't going to need the onscreen keyboard.
It is actually quite easy, all you have to do is tap the return (back) button and the keyboard will sink in. I use a BT keyboard with both Samsung's QWERTY and Google's Japanese input (Beta) and in both cases I can get rid of the onscreen keyboard without a hitch.
What I'm really curious to know thugh if there is a good tutorial for keys you can use to edit while writing, selecting, copying, pasting, making bold or cursive, that kind of thing.
Hi,
I've just connected a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo to my Nexus 7, it works great apart from the lack of a keyboard layout for English (UK). the only English layouts are US and US Dvorak style. Does anyone know of a way to get the keyboard to use a UK layout? The built-in Android keyboard has one and works fine.
Paul.
I'm going to second this question. The US layout is usable but when you have to use the " key to get an @ it starts to get annoying.
Workaround that works!
I had the same problem, having just bought a UK layout bluetooth keyboard from Amazon.
There is a workaround - "External Keyboard Helper Pro" in Google Play. It costs a couple of quid.
You can try out "External Keyboard Helper Demo" first, to show that it works - this is free to try out.
A word of warning - it took me a while to get this to work - it was quite fiddly, but it DOES eventually work!
A hint:
In Language & Input, these are the settings that work for me:
Default: External Keyboard Helper Pro
SELECTED: Android Keyboard: English (UK)
SELECTED: External Keyboard Helper Pro
Under choose input method, select:
Hardware Physical Keyboard OFF
English (UK) Android keyboard - NOT SELECTED
External Keyboard Helper Pro - SELECTED
By SELECTED I mean ticked in the above.
I found that choosing the English (Dvorak) layout in External Keyboard Helper Pro and having "Sound on keypress" on helped my work out when the app was intercepting the bluetooth keyboard input and remapping correctly. Once that you know it is working, switch off the sound and select "English (GB)" as the layout in External Keyboard Helper Pro.
I tried this solution and it works (though I have no idea why).
The problem is that you seem to have to go through the suggested routine every time you connect the keyboard.
Has anyone found a way of setting it up so that it automatically sets it self up with the English layout when you connect the keyboard and then reverts to the on-screen keyboard when you disconnect?
I'd like to buy one of the recently announced bluetooth keyboards designed for Windows 8, such as the Wedge keyboard or one from Logitech. How does Android handle the extra function buttons, like the windows key or the volume up/down play pause etc buttons? Is support included or will we need to hack the OS / kernel?
A Windows keyboard is going to use the Windows API for the function keys, which usually means they won't work at all in Android. However, you can always make custom bindings. Check out this tutorial: http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=159538
Hey yall,
How are you guys doing?
Since Sony has dumped the Xperia Keyboard they've shoved the Swiftkey down on our throat.
Anyone else using the old Xperia Keyboard or moved up to the Swiftkey?

Yes mine too.
That's why I've been using the Xperia Keyboard for the last few days (with no troubles)
Sent from my Xperia XZ2 using XDA Labs
The real question is that, should I keep using the Good old Xperia keyboard or keep moving on with the SwiftKey?

Yeahr, but I only want apps, which get updates.
Every Xperia update could break the Xperia keyboard.

Just a a curiosity for those who are using the Gboard... When you restart the phone do you have to press "Done" for Gboard and have to type the phone password using Swiftkey ?

I thought *and many more features* could mean swipe, so I asked.
I already readed this.

I deactivated SwiftKey in the options.
Maybe that will help you.
I don't have this bug.
Gboard is much, much better.
Running Android P is much much better.
I wish Sony will keep Android P gesture interface and just add the Music/Video/Playstation app with its official release lol.
