Hello,
I have a P10 with TWRP, rooted and bootloader unlocked. Now I Received new version.
My current is VTR-L09 8.0.0.373(C02) and
new is VTR-L09 8.0.0.378(C02) - there is face unlock feature.
Probably because there is TWRP normal(automatic) update doesn't work. After restar process jums into TWRP and doesn!t continue.
Question is how to install?
Doesn!t metter If I lost unlock, root and all. But how to revert to stock(new) version?
I am expecting that comlete instalation is downloaded in phone, I have current new struture(download) inside:
New folder(files) are in:
\data\update\HwOUC\140830\
update_data_full_public.zip 87.66MB
update_full_CTR-L09_vodafone_default.zip 921.22MB
update.zip 2.00GB
\data\update\HwOUC\updateauth\
update_auth.sa 1.45K
the structure inside the zip files is not normal as we have for twrp flashing.
Any hint, idea, how to do this?

The version that is intended for me(unlocked, root, twrp) doesn¨t work. And there is no additional progress from developer.
Any other idea how to update unlocked phone to new version?
you have to simply re flash the original recovery (to replace TWRP)...then you do the update then,re flash TWRP

First of all, what is balong bug?
Balong Bug is when you update to a newer firmware that was not meant for your country, your phone doesn't recognize the correct version of your software(instead of correct version it will show balongc53b311) and you can't do ota update.
So in order to get rid of balong bug, when you update your software to a newer version, in the archive you've downloaded there are 2 folders: one contains the firmware update and one folder named custom or vendor which contains update.app for balong bug.
So all you have to do is to install via local update the update.app from vendor/custom folder.
I've tried to find for as many as possibile versions i could find.
I've made an archive of all vendor folders. Download from here
Here is the list from archive:
B049
B120
B130
B132
B133
B171
B551
Now, in order to get local update back, you'll need to have unlocked bootloader and twrp installed because you'll need to flash an archive.
First, make sure you have installed the correct drivers, then enable usb debugging from developer options(tap 7 times on build number to unlock developer)
To unlock bootloader you'll need to register on huawei then enter your details here.
If you have dual sim,enter your main imei;
After you've done all this you'll have a 10 digit code number, save it.
Now download minimal adb fastboot from here and install it.
Plug the phone into pc, open cmd window in minimal folder(shift + right click -> open new command here), type:
Code:
adb devices
and in return it will show something like
Code:
123213asdsa231 device
. After this type
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
. Now you are in fastboot and here you'll unlock your bootloader by tiping this command:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock yourcode
. If you done all this, now it will show on the bottom Phone Unlocked.
Now you need TWRP from here.
Flash it via fastboot with this command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery image_name.img
.
Enter twrp, flash this archive.
Now you've got back your local update!.
In order to get back stock recovery, donwload your current firmware version, use huawei extractor to extract recovery.img from update.app and flash it via fastboot with the same command used to flash twrp.
If you have questions, ask here.
Please add the newer B564 to the patch
I'm sorry, but i can't find for b564 ...
hey i tried updating locally on b560, but am stuck at 19% for like half an hour...
Bootloader is now unlocked, fast boot works as i can boot to bootloader but i cant push twrp for some reason.
Edit: fixed, wasn't looking for the correct file to put twrp into.
So i flashed B550 i think which doesn't have Vendor file, how can i get to B551 or one that does, will i need to downgrade first.

Hi,
Can someone concisely give the most up to date instructions on how to root the P20 Pro
Confused because some people talk about debranding first? Is this necessary if you, like me, just have a generic non-network branded phone?
Also.. Does rooting require twrp?
A bit unclear on if I should use the offical or unofficial twrp methods.
And if so does twrp prevent OTA updates? I was lead to believe that any OTA updates would simply wipe any root and you just have to go through the steps again, but would twrp prevent an OTA update in the first place?
What are the best instructions to root the P20 Pro to keep the OTA updates going (even if you need to reroot after each update).
Thanks heaps in getting through the confusion!
Here you have manual to root in simple 4 steps. You need adb and fastboot on your computer, bootloader unlock code and Magisk from link in post
https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...de-how-to-root-debrand-remove-retail-t3788326
Does any of the steps,
1/ unlocking the bootloader
2/ debranding
3/ installing TWRP
3/ rooting
Wipe the device?.. I'm assuming yes?
Also. What's the point of debranding?..
I think I'm on a generic P20 Pro that wasn't bought from a carrier - so is that step necessary for me.
Thanks heaps again for the advice - coming over from the Samsung world and maybe I'm so used to the rooting methods there
Also do any of those steps prevent OTA updates?
Or is there somehow to still use OTA updates but simply need to reapply root on every occasion there is ah update?

Unlocking the bootloader will wipe your device. The other steps won't.
You need to have TWRP installed in order to be able to flash Magisk (for Root), and no you don't have to rebrand if you don't want to. You'll still be able to receive and download OTAs but if TWRP remains installed on your phone it won't be able to install unless you change back to the stock recovery. However there is methods to update with TWRP and you'll be able to get and install updates quicker than waiting for them to be pushed to you phone. That's the main reason people rebrand because generic European models are getting updates the fastest.
What's your device model and current firmware version from 'About Phone' in settings?

Thanks heaps for the advice - makes sense now!
I'm using the model CLT-L29 on C636 which I think is the Asia Pacific model.. And incidentally just received a OTA upgrade to the 128 firmware
.. So in order to receive OTA updates you simply have to change back to the stock recovery after using TWRP to install magisk and root?
But I imagine every time the OTA update occurs it wipes root?.. Which would mean reinstalling TWRP to regain root and doing the whole process again every time?

Yep you got it in one lol
The other option so that you don't have to flash TWRP then back to stock recovery each time is when you receive an OTA is download the same firmware (Full-OTA version) from Firmware Finder - you would just need the update.zip - then using Huawei update extractor you can extract the ramdisk.img Then copy the ramdisk.img to your phone, use Magisk manager to patch it then copy it back to your PC and flash it via fastboot. But I think this is more work than flashing between TWRP & stock recoveries haha
Hi everybody
Wishing to sell my Huawei P9 I wanted to return it as it came out of the factory but impossible.
It has the bootloader unblock, FRP lock at one time it was unlock and since I tried to make an update it went into lock and the TWRP recovery of installed.
It is under 5.0.1 and android 7 and the number of buils is EVA-L09C530B284.
I tried the 3 methods to install an original ROM of my operator but nothing to do that does not.
- The DLOAD method: it restarts in the recovery twrp there are steps that are done and then it failed all in 2 minutes.
- The forced update method: that's 5% and installation failed.
- With hi suite: everything is going well and said that such is up to date and restart nothing I'm still in the old versions.
I did the 3 methods with the unrooted phone.
I feel that it is the recovery twrp that blocks the installation.
How to install the original recovery and install the official updates?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Sorry, I don't understand your question.
For both HWOTA (first link) or HWOTA7 (second link) you need to unlock Bootloader first - but you wrote above that previously you had unlocked Bootl8ader, hence you can use the same Bootloader code - it is bound to your eevice.
Asvdescribed in HWOTA instructions, installation of some stock ROMs will automatically relock your Bootloader (it-sa flag in the update.zip, out of your control) - hut you can always unlock it again.
ok it's good I just made an update and everything is back in order it is as if he came out of the box
thank you very much
Hi everyone! I recently bought a LG G6 H872, which still has 10e installed. After crawling the forums for a bit, here's the sequence of things I wanted to do to it:
1.) Update to 8.0 Oreo via OTA.
2.) Unlock bootloader
3.) Root and TWRP using this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g6/how-to/root-h872-to-including-11g-t3775518
4.) Magisk
Is the latest Oreo update the 20a version that is mentioned in the thread or should I manually update it to something older. I saw that there was anti-rollback so I don't want to update too far. Also, if there is ever another OTA, how does one update the rooted phone?
Edit: I wrote up some steps if it helps you on this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77513501&postcount=4
I do not believe there is currently a way to root the T-Mobile versions.

That is not correct, see: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g6/how-to/root-h872-to-including-11g-t3775518
For future people who come across this thread, here are the steps I took to root this phone:
1.) Factory reset and then update device via OTA incrementally until 20a (which is Android Oreo 8.0)
2.) unlock bootloader: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpaW0-8-QKY
3.) root device: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g6/how-to/root-h872-to-including-11g-t3775518
Note: there is a video tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-z4CWLikPcI&t=821s. The first steps of flashing the laf partition are very useful to watch before attempting
4.) Factory reset in TWRP
5.) Reset after encryption error, then wipe with TWRP. May give mount error.
6.) Boot into Android Oreo. Device is not yet rooted at this point.
6.) Flash MAGISK via TWRP (SD card or ADB push) ]. Ignore the mount error. Reboot.
7.) Device is rooted! :good:
That's interesting
Without getting into an issue those steps look slightly different in order than the original process.
Or I'm a dumbass and somehow got it out of order. Seems ok now though.
Hello there!
I want to ask if it's the same to do the steps with 20e ?
Curious as well if this works with the latest update.

I succeeded in completing the process.
Permanent unlock from Tom via app.
Unlocked bootloader.
Twrp installed to recovery, can boot to recovery via low volume/power button combo.
Magisk installed.
20a working nicely.
I'm getting requests from Tmo to update from 20a to 20d. Is this recommended? Will twrp, root, unlock, etc. be lost?
I am glad to see that the bootloader gets unlocked easily. @alliance1975 how did you go from Unlocked bootloader step to Twrp installed step? That is the big one I think.
There is a good TWRP available, but we can't install it because the phone lacks fastboot commands. Is there a way to install TWRP? Or is it really that the only method is the rather risky runningnak3d method?

I used the procedure summarized in step 3. I agree it is risky, well, the riskiest root & twrp I've ever tried. I neglected to say I only read instructions, the dev who actually came up with the plan deserves all the credit.
When I try to oem unlock nothing happens. What can I do? I have followed all other instructions.
Follow steps from this https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g6/how-to/unlock-bootloader-tmo-t3578099

Hey I have p20 pro EU version 6/128
Today I got a new update about Google security.
I want every update run on my phone
But I rooted my device.
I wanted first to ask guys , I tried to update but was unsuccessful. I do not have twrp because of the method I used to root p20 pro didn't allow me having magisk and twrp recovery.
So now if I want to update have to do it manually ?
2 questions
1) which program do I use ?
2) where I can find the firmware Official WITHOUT BEEING CHANGED ANYTHING inside from someone third.
Thanks John
You need to flash the stock bootloader. If you are running Pie and Magisk, you have a modified bootloader. I don't know where to download the stock one. Could probably rip it from a stock Pie firmware.
Me to have twrp on my p20 pro and i cannot update my phone.. Have new update but when I try system update after download, its entering to recovery mode for install the firmware but it cannot coz working twrp and unsuccessful installation.
Me to look for stock recovery for clt-l29 pie

Download the current version you are using. Extract recovery_ramdisk.img and flash. Reboot and take OTA update. You will lose root, as I said you have a modified recovery and need stock to take OTA.
Edit - Once your done, patch the bootloader from Magisk and flash to get root again.
