I’m new to the google home deal but I have purchased 6 minis to cover most of the house. My question is can I control pandora from my phone vs using voice controls to do everything. Would just prefer skipping tracks or changing stations visually if possible. Any insight would be great. Thank you.

When you open Pandora (Connected to WiFI), there should be a cast icon for you to connect to your Google Home.

This was taken straight from the Google Home support site HERE
1. Play personalized radio from Pandora say: "Play my shuffle", "Play my shuffle radio"
2. Play personalized radio based on songs you've thumbed on Pandora say: "Play my Thumbprint radio"
Note: To play your thumbprint radio, you must have saved several stations and thumbed up several songs in order for Pandora to understand what you like.
3. Play playlist say: "Play classic country", "Play <Pandora station name>"
4. Like/Dislike a song from Pandora say: "Thumbs up", "Thumbs down", "I like this song"

Unfortunately that doesn’t work. No matter what I say or name the playlist it will not do it unless I start it from the phone. Which I’m fine with that but if I walk out of my WiFi zone it changes.

Are you from the United States? I'm reading on the support site that it's US Only. If you are then I'm not sure. I use Spotify and it works flawlessly.
Yes in the US. I’m not sure I’ve tried every combo of words I can think of that would trigger it with no luck.

I'm not sure exactly which part of the phone handles this...so I guess this will be more of a "pick your brain" thread than anything. I have the LG Revolution, on GV 1.3. In my car, I have the Sony XNV-660BT head unit, that supports streaming BT audio. I've used it many times with Pandora and Google Music, and love it. I am able to play/pause/skip which is nice. Through some strange fluke last night, I played some music via the built-in music player, and WHAM! Metadata on screen of my stereo. Artist, Album and Track name were all there, which made the whole thing even more awesome. What I am trying to figure out is why Google Music and Pandora don't send the data, when the built-in player does? Is there something I need to enable? It seems odd Google would not have included that feature.

Perhaps the head unit reads the information directly from the file? That would explain why it doesn't work for streamed music. I think.
Sent from my VS910 4G using xda premium
No, even if I play a local file in Google Music it doesn't send it. It looks like a standard limitation in Android's BT that LG must have spent a bit to get working, or used a different BT stack. Oh well...maybe when/if we get ICS ported it will correct this. The newest standard BT stack they are using supports 1.3.

Either I need help, or google now is absolutely terrible with music.
I have a bunch of music that I added to my phone using isyncr. I have tried to get google to play it, but have yet to play a song successfully using voice commands. It is half the reason that I got this phone, and it's really frustrating how bad it is. Let's use the artist Bonobo for an example. I am able to tell google now what I want to listen to, and it interprets my words successfully about 50% of the time.
If I say "Listen to Bonobo," it opens google music and says "no results found." This occurs despite the fact that it spelled it correctly and I clearly have his music.
If I say "Listen to Black Sands," it tells me that it "Couldn't prepare an instant mix, please try again."
If I saw "Listen to Know You by Bonobo," it actually says "Playing 'Know You' by Bonobo," opens google music, and then starts an instant mix with "Know Yourself" by Femi Kuti.
I was a former android user, now a former iphone user, and google now is a complete disgrace. Am I doing something wrong?

Reverted to the factory version of google music, and these are the results.
"Listen to Bonobo" is interpreted correctly, google says "Playing Bonobo." It then just takes me to the app with that artist selected. I have tested this for multiple artists.
"Listen to Black Sands" is interpreted correctly. This is an album as well as a song, which is incredibly common. Google successfully plays the song. If I say "Listen to album Black Sands," it still plays the song. If I pick another album that is also not a track name, it just takes me to that album in google music.
"Listen to Know You," a song from a different album, just pulls up a search for "listen to know you." "Listen to know you by Bonobo" successfully plays the song. It plays this single song on repeat and nothing else.
This is an improvement, if I only ever want to listen to a single song. It also gives me the ability to tell google to pull up an artist (even if I am telling it to play that artist), at which point I can hit play myself.
Thanks for the help. I'm still extremely disappointed.

I did. I said "Black Sands," which is the name of both a song and an album, and I also tried "The North Borders," which is a different album. For the north borders, it clearly understands what I am saying and shows the album artwork. It doesn't actually play any music, though.

Thanks. I'm a little pissed off that I even switched at this point. They pull you into the Moto X by talking about how you never have to use your hands. The voice recognition tool is absolute crap unless you want to search the internet. At that point, I'm just yelling at my phone to search the internet even though I can type it out.
I was really hoping to be able to use this to play music while driving.
its pretty patchy at the moment, I agree. Half the time mine searches on the web rather than opening google play. If I wanted to search on the web, i would have used that command. But when it starts with "Play..." then it should always search on GPAA.

For what it's worth, I just asked the same question on Reddit, and somebody pointed me to a program called PlayerPro. It will recognize artists and albums successfully, but not playlists. I'm also not sure if I can tell any app to shuffle via google now.
PlayerPro is a paid app, but I might try other media player apps now that I know that different apps work/don't work differently.

Hello, beelbeel
For PlayerPro, have you been able to get it to play via Google Now, without having to quit the Program?
I can get GN to recognize my speech and play any of my songs via PlayerPro, however, after asking it to play a song, i have to quit PlayerPro, (not pause, or dismiss) to get it to play any other song i ask for. if i just request without asking, it only opens the player.
To the original poster: Try asking GN to "Play" instead of "Listen". You may have a difficult accent or pitch, Try to rephrase the command. GN seems to recognize a number of ways to get what you want done. And if that fails, Rename your album to include a second or third word, so that GN doesn't confuse the song, and the album.
GL
I reccomend you get this PlayerPro program, they have a free trial. it's great. It will allow you to rename, your files, and albums. try it.
Hey guys,
I am having some issues with getting my music on to my watch. I uploaded my private music to Google play music on my computer and then I installed Google play music on my phone. There I can listen to my private music without a hitch, so it all basically works.
Now when I tick the option to store it on my watch for offline playback, nothing happens... It won't start syncing, no matter what I do =/
Will it only sync music that I actually bought through the play store?
Or has anyone else gotten it to work so far?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers
Michael

I'm not sure if it is relevant but are you a play music subscriber, i.e paying the £7 or whatever the price is?
I got my watch today and had no problem getting the music to download.
With the option selected, go back to your library and click on the download button again, that might work?
Best of luck and merry Christmas
Yeah I am a subscriber.
I downloaded a playlist from google play music and it synchronized with my watch right away. Just the Musik I uploaded from my pc won't sync.
Could it be because it's missing IDE3 Tags? Or because the names are wrong or so?
Edit:
OK, problem solved! Probably a rather stupid mistake I made, but I bet there are others out there as clueless as me... So here's the solution: The music from the Google play music app is ONLY synced to the Android wear watch, once it is downloaded onto the phone as an offline playlist. It makes perfect sense, of course, but I didn't quite get it in the beginning... So what I did, was create a playlist with my private music and checked the "download to device" button. Once the download was done, it automatically sent it to my LG watch.
Thanks for the reply anyway and a merry Christmas to you too!

Anyone that has this, can you explain what is and is not possible with google play music? Can you play and switch between specific radio stations that are in my library? Can you also select and switch between existing playlists that in my library? Can you thumbs up and thumbs down songs?
If you have a rooted device, you can try my Headunit app in standalone mode and see for yourself.
Or two devices USB OTG connected...

I've got it running in my '15 Sonata. Yes, you can do all of the things you asked about. I was never much of a fan of Google Play Music, until now.
Picked up my Sonata today. Everything seems to work well except some of the Google Play Music radio station functionality is a mess. When I select Google Play Music radio stations on the Sonata there is a list of radio stations. Some of them are my stations from my phone and they play fine. Others are stations that I don't have on my phone and when I try to play them it says Google Play Music is not working correctly or something similar. Other than that it seems to work great.

Yeah it's kind of basic for now. Android Auto is pretty much a beta product. I'm looking forward to future updates and improved functionality. Still love using it, though!
Everytime i use a voice command to play a song, Google play music is always the default app, even when im already in another music player such as Spotify.

You have to specify the name of the app if you want something other than Google music. So say "play x song by y artist on Spotify"

Yes, i've done it a few times. I have a custom playlist on my Google Music called "retro synth mix" and I just tell it to "Play retro synth mix". This probably requires you to name the playlist in a unique way like i did so it doesn't mix up with any existing song/artist or pregenerated playlists.

I've had problems with playlists myself. I have several playlists by artist name where I just dump all their songs in there so I don't have to scroll through every artist in my library to find them.
I don't think Google recognizes the phrase "playlist" because if I say "play playlist x" and x happens to be the name of an artist, it will start playing that artist.
Usually that wouldn't necessarily be an issue since it will play what was in the playlist anyway, but in some cases, the artist changed band names but I still put all of their songs under that artist name. So the songs under the other band name don't get played in that case.
I changed the name of that one playlist to something unique and it played it just fine the next time. Doing that to over 80 playlists though will get annoying.
I also have my playlists songs sorted by album or year and if you say "play artist" I think it just starts playing songs in alphabetical order.
Google has some work to do with their media player if they want people to use it exclusively. Right now, it's pretty bare bones and frustrating to use.

Hi,
Who knows how to use voice commands with TuneIn Radio? And how to select between one "media" App (Google Music) and another (TuneIn Radio)?
Thank you!
Google voice should understand the term "PlayList" so "Play PlayList Home" is different then "Play Home" (Home being the name of a song)

It's important that your app is designed to recognize Google voice commands. Many are not. Pulsar Music Player recognizes OK Google commands, so:
"OK Google"
"open Pulsar"
After the app opens, OK Google listens for other commands.
"play [song] on Pulsar"
Mentioning the artist isn't necessary but mentioning the app is. Unfortunately, Play was the only command OK Google obeyed for Pulsar. No Stop, Pause, etc.

The "OK Google" syntax for 3rd party music player voice commands is:
“Listen to [song] on [music player app]”
or
“Play [song] on [music player app]”
In practice I've found the “Listen to” command to have a higher accuracy rate.

Man, I REALLY wish this were true, but it's just not. I've tried everything and clearly I'm doing something wrong. If I go into Android Auto OR use the "Hey Google" moniker to summon the assistant, and then say, "Listen to playlist newly added on shuttle music player" it returns with "I can't find newly added on shuttle music player on Spotify, but you can ask me to play it on one of your other apps."
Holy HELL that's annoying. She tells me she can play it on one of my other apps, but NOWHERE can I find info on how to make this happen.
In the Assistant app, I see under Music where I can select my default music service choices (YouTube Music, Google Play Music, Spotify and "No default provider"), and by default it was set to Spotify. I've since tried "No default provider" with the same results. I do not see anywhere that you can specifically select which music player application you'd like the voice to respond to. Does anyone have any insight into what I'm doing wrong??
Any help is MUCH appreciated. I'm usually driving out in the country with sporadic service or have already hit my throttle limit and trying to play all my local media instead of streaming everything.

The "OK Google" commands won't work unless the app specifically supports integration with Google Assistant commands. Most music apps are currently not compatible with voice commands.
