[Q] Android Auto: draw on overlay and intents? - Android Auto General

Hello boys and girls!
I'm planning to buy my first Android Auto capable head unit for my car.
Since I generally like to customize things, I was thinking that I could also customize a little bit the face of Android Auto, so here are my questions:
1. Can I somehow (i.e. through Tasker or its plugins) create an overlay on top of Android auto (that will appear on the head unit's screen)? I would like to add some extra information on top of Android Auto.
2. Are there any intents through which I could poke Android Auto (i.e. to switch directly to the navi screen upon starting Android Auto)?
Thanks!

Anybody? Any small detail?

Android Auto appearance on tablets?

When I install Android auto on my tablet, it appears just like it would on my phone. From my understanding, when one uses AA from a phone and is plugged into compatible HU, AA changes slightly to have the row of icons on the bottom of the screen. Is there a way to get this appearance from solely using on a tablet?
You can see what I mean in the picture attached.
I am looking for a solution as well. I have a a Joying Android Headunit and would like to run it standalone but with the same interface as a phone to a normal deck.

Mod Android Auto GUI to show large clock on bottom command bar

I own a Mazda CX-5 and recently paid for the upgrade of the infotainment to add Android Auto.
The main issue is that once AA is running the clock becomes almost unreadable! it's too small an overlaid on the app (mostly Waze for my purposes).
I would like to be able to move the clock to the bottom bar of AA in order to ensure it's always there and way bigger then now.
I started by decompiling the AA APK etc... but then come to the conclusion that probably someone else already tried something like that and that in general here in the forum there will surely be some kind of guide on how to decompile/repackage the AA and which layouts/bundles to edit for which result: unfortunately I didn't find any such guide
So my questions:
1 - is already out there any AA rebuild which puts a large clock in the bottom bar?
2 - if not: is there any guide on how to open and repackage AA and which are the main requirements to make it work again after repackaging?
3 - if not: at least some steps on how to mod some layouts and repackage in a way which allows it to work?
4 - if not: anyone willing to share suggestions on issues I'll meet (i.e. google signature required for AA, special permissions etc...) ?
5 - if not: anyone out there who already tried (and failed) willing to share his experience so that I don't start the try-fail process from scratch?
thanks everyone for helping!
p.s.: no Xposed at current stage since I'm using the company's phone and I'm not willing to root it, thanks!
Hi, i know this a old post and i'm sorry if my English is a little bad. You resolve the clock problem? I buy a CX 5 too and have same problem and question.
There's an option to do just so with Substratum and the theme Extras For AA
Having the same problem I made a small application which gives the time all the time:
[CLOCK] 0.2 Always displayed
-Some car radios do not display the time when an app is in full screen (waze). So I developed a small application that displays the time permanently. Usage: install the app and start. The position can be modified by sliding, it will be memorized...

android auto mutes notifications

Hello,
Everytime I open android auto it mutes my ringtones and notifications. This did not happen on my previous phone (s7 edge); does anybody know how to disable this? It does not even show me my onscreen notifications when driving
I had the same problem, just using Android Auto on the phone, not a car screen. I'm afraid it's due to how Xiaomi have made Do Not Disturb, in that it isn't the same as standard Android. There used to be a toggle in the settings of Android Auto, but they removed that and you can't add exceptions in DND on Xiaomi. So, the only work around I have found is to download an app called Macrodroid. (Free) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.arlosoft.macrodroid
And create a macro that detects when Android Auto is launched then disable DND, with a 5 second delay to allow Android Auto to start and switch DND mode.
If you want I can share screens of the macro.
If anyone has a better way let me know!

Dark Theme keeps switching off

I keep having Dark Theme switching off when I connect to Android Auto in My 2020 Kia Soul. It happens about 50% of the time. I notice when it brings up Google Maps and it is in Light Theme. Is anyone else seeing this issue? Or have suggestions on how to correct this?
Stock, unlocked from Google Store & running on T-Mobile
Dark theme is heavily tied to the messages app, and when Android auto accesses messages it overrides the system theme with the current Android auto theme. There's no know did as I'm aware of, besides using a substrantum theme.

Try override force dark on developer options
This is nothing new. Every time I connect to android auto, dark theme is turned off.... It did this on all my pixels
Enable developer options in android auto, and then select it to be always dark.
There is also a setting to make it respect the phone, instead of the car, should you wish to do it that way,

What he's saying is the theme on the phone changes from dark to light when Android auto is connected. He's not talking about the display on the infotainment system. I just started using an Android 10 rom on my 5t, and today I experienced the same thing he's talking about. Not really a big deal as I don't use my phone while I'm driving. The display on the vehicle will coincide with the panel dimmer switch on the vehicle. Keep it maxed out it will never go into night mode, back it down 1 click and the Android auto display will automatically toggle between white and dark background as necessary

I know exactly what he is talking about, and if they force Android Auto to dark mode, the phone will stay in dark mode when connected to the vehicle.
As it is now, Android Auto is what controls the light/dark mode on the phone. If you override it on Android Auto developer settings, the phone will respect it how he wants.
You can also alternatively set it so that as opposed to the vehicle controlling it, the phone will determine it instead.

Yes, I could always tell when Android Auto would flip the Dark Theme off because Google Maps on the car display would flip to light mode. Once turning on developer mode in Android Auto and forcing the dark option, I have not had one instance of rebellion.
Thank you all for the troubleshooting and conversating!!

AA Make Clock Larger like this example?

Hi everyone,
I'm new here and am trying to figure out how to get a clock to display on my AA like in the example image.
The clock on my AA is very very tiny and in the upper left hand corner at all times.
I would really love to be able to display a clock and date like in the example image, but I can only get secondary apps like Spotify to display in the split screen.
I just can't find any info or figure out how to get a clock to display there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Best,
Jason
I guess the right part of the screen is from the car itself...
The UI of Android Auto on this picture does not look like Coolwalk. Therefore there is no split screen possible with Android Auto.
