Ok lets say i am in yahoo (dowloaded offical app not the pre-installed at&t IM app). I will finish what i am doing in yahoo, leave it running and return to the HOME screen. A few minutes later (after receiving no messages) I wake up my phone & it is yahoo! It shold still be at the HOME screen as this is the last thing that was open before sleep mode. This also happens randomly with my text and call log. I will make a call and hang up. Phone times out in 15 seconds and is left on the home screen. I wake it up and my list of calls is on the display....this should NOT BE! Text messages show up after the wake up some times as well. Additionally I am on my 3rd captivate with a brand new sim card and I will be on the phone for 5 minutes in a COMPLETE singnal area and my call will not just "drop" it's almost like the entire phone app disables and I lose all signal for 10 seconds & it regains and the screen blanks out. What gives??!!! I am using task manager and I have the "phone" ignored as proccess that it should not auto-kill so I do not know! Any help with any of these issues will be appreciated!
I would uninstall task manager first to make sure it's not the problem. If its still happening keep uninstalling apps one at a time until you get back to the factory loadout.
My thinking is that if this is your third phone then it's most likely a software issue. I haven't seen anything around the forums about similar problems out of the door so I have to think its something you've modified or an app that is causing the issue.
The only alternative i can think of would be to start reading up on each app you've installed to see I'd they've been tested on the captivate.
Good luck

Hi there guys, I have a few problems,
1.)
I have unusual problem (like no one had before )... Sometimes I get an error when I try to enable wifi over top toolbar (on my Samsung Galaxy S). Wifi is like frozen, no signs of activity or whatsoever. When I go to setting tab and see wifi state it is shaded button and after some time it states "Error" just below same shaded button. When I click on it after it states error sometimes it fixes it self (i.e. turns wifi on), and sometimes I have to reboot it to work.
2.)
This one is a more strange than unusual problem )... Sometimes as it is some kind of collision, when I scroll down my top toolbar it just remains opened as big as a little line no more than half an centimeter of a width. And I can't get it down to fully see information (since after installation of some widget or application or when I receive mail there is everything summarized up there). I don't know if I had installed some game or app or widget which interferes with standard top toolbar?
3.)
Some force closes when browsing Internet (via stock browser) or checking mail (via gmail app) are really annoying, but I was looking for related problems here on forum and it looks like "nothing unusual" for Froyo users....
Are there any solutions to these problems or any related thread that I have missed in my search so you can reference me to or if you can give me some solutions or at least explanations of these strange/unusual problems?
Thank you in forward . I really love this community and one day I will do Android programming too. I really need a kick start (this is not topic related question) ... can you tell me how can I get some applications fast up and running and which books/video tutorials to use to quickly become android developer / how much time is needed (I have devotion and zeal in my toolbox and I have some programming background in Java )?
Respect!
Factory reset?
Well I really want to avoid that solution any other suggestion?

I have all problems you describe as well, I did a factory reset (3 times in total since froyo - for these reasons. the last time I formatted the internal SD card as well, just to be sure) and they remain.
The notification bar might be caused by an app, I am still not sure, but I disabled my quick settings shortcut in the bar and the 3G watchdog notification which indicated I am using 3G and it has not happened since. Rebooting the phone also works.
I have the WIFI thing as well, it happens and works exactly like you say, I press it again and it fixes itself - or not. Weird.
Browser force close and gmail force close happens here as well.
I am contemplating bringing it to a service center but I am unsure if that will solve anything or if it's just buggy Samsung software? Any ideas?
Froyo - Galaxy S - Status Bar Problems
Any one guys? Are we only two people on the internet having this issue?
Can someone at least elaborate a bit?
Last night I was at home and noticed my wifi wasn't on, so I used the quick settings in the shade to toggle it. After a few seconds, wifi connected, and some unknown app took focus and closed repeatedly. After a few moments, it stopped and all was well.
I thought it was strange, so I turned wifi back off and the same thing happened. I rebooted, tried again, and got the same result. I was trying to think of a way to see what was happening, so I tried using the Screen Record function in Gravity Box, which didn't help much, because it happens so fast, and no info is displayed, just a black window that goes away quickly.
I then turned on the CPU usage in Developer Options to see if anything consistently came to the top when toggling. I saw a few apps each time Plume (Twitter), and Maildroid (email) were two of them. Both of these apps behave differently on wifi and 3G/4G (push vs. pull), so thought -maybe- it could be something with that. I uninstalled both of those, rebooted and tried again, getting the same result.
I recorded the screen when this was happening with the CPU usage displayed, and was wondering if anyone has any ideas? I don't really want to uninstall and reinstall EVERY app on my phone, so I was hoping someone may have seen this before or see something I'm missing when watching it happen.

Thanks for any input anyone can offer!
Do you check virus from your phone ?
I am also having this, seems to be due to 4.4.2 OTA, which I continue to delay as I am rooted.
Mine doens't only happen with wifi change, but also just randomly when using hangouts, keyboard stays out but hangouts min -> maxes quickly. I have tried freezing the update apps but it apparently didn't do anything as I was still asked to update earlier.
Only hangouts? I have that app disabled.in the app settings.
I can't say for sure that being on 4.4.2 fixed it, but I am on 4.4.2 now and it is not happening anymore.
I unlocked my bootloader and did the 4.4.2 SBF, unlocked and rooted. I installed probably 99% of the same apps (only ditched 1-2 that I never used anymore) and I am not having the flashing issue anymore.
Hard to tell for certain if the pending OTA was the cause, but it may have been.
Yesterday a toast I guess you would call it because it's not the normal gray color started showing up quite frequently on my phone. I haven't made any changes or installed new apps recently with the exception of about 8 malware scanners. I installed one at a time scanned then uninstalled. I'm at a loss for what could be causing this and how to fix it. I tried resetting the app preferences regarding draw over other apps but the problem persists. I Googled it with no results so I put it in quotes for a more specific search and it turned up absolutely zero. It troubles me to ever have in there but even more so that it's one I haven't seen before. I included a screenshot because sometimes it pops up multiple times in a row back to back so it was easy to capture. I'm hoping somebody has at least saw this before. I'm on Android 7.1.1 unrooted unlocked Note 8. Any help or ideas is appreciated.
Nobody has even seen this before? I turned off every single thing on the draw over other apps section of settings including system apps and it still keeps popping up.
Try booting in safe mode to see if it still happens
So, over the last few weeks I've found that my P20 Pro vibrates for no (known reason), every now and again. Usually multiple times per day.
I've tried turning it off and back on, killing the apps, checking for updates, turning notifications off on most apps.
Has anyone had a similar problem and /or has any way of diagnosing or fixing it?
I have experienced the same thing, so you're not totally alone if that helps. I haven't found the cause yet either. I suspect it might be WiFi+ vibrating when the source switches back and forth so it'll happen in stints for me.
i have the same thing and i think i might found the reason, i have some muted WhatsApp chat groups and it seems like that every now and then when i get messages in these groups my phone vibrates although i muted them . There is no notification but a short vibration.
Another thing that bothers me more is when receiving an whats app message my phone vibrates once short and after that the way i set it up in the settings...
I begin to get it after an update. hope to see a solution soon.
No
I believe I've found the cause and solution to the Huawei mate 20 pro random vibrations.
I installed a notification logger from the play store and found that it was logging notifications of repetitive image downloads completing that lined up with every buzz.
If you go into settings, apps and choose to see system apps in the menu, you can force close the download and download manager apps. If you then clear the data and cache from each, you should find the phantom notifications stop.
I haven't had one in days now, and it was all the time.
I hope this is of help.
This happens to me a lot. Its mainly due to voice recognition thinking I'm am speaking to the phone. It happens randomly when watching TV, at work on even in the train. There's no specific key work that triggers it,. It happens at random. This is my issue with the random vibration but your could be a different reason although

Mine was definitely the download manager continuously redownloading Google photos images. Force stop, clear data, clear cache of the download and download manager system apps and mine has been fine now for a week. Try it!
Had the same issue months ago. Cleaning cache and data of stock download manager app solved it for me.
Mine started doing same yesterday ?
I have the mate 20 pro, and it's just started randomly vibrating with no notification
So my phone is now starting to randomly vibrate like bursts of short vibrations that last a while, but there's no notifications or anything? I don't know how to find the "download manager" to check if it's that. I'm not sure which apps to force stop. It's really annoying though.
Do you use Textra? Happened to my wife's s8 and she just uninstalled then reinstalled Textra to make the problem go away.
I have cleared the download manager and everything else several times, but it only works for few days even hours and starts again. I'm not sure if it activities itself again after I download something, but nevertheless, this just shouldn't happen. How can I disable download manager permanently (or preferably just the vibrations, as I assume DM is there for a reason)
Had the same issue. No problem from textra, for me it was google drive. I uninstalled it, cleared cahe and data and I am now using OneDrive. I haven't experienced any random vibrations since then.
Mate 20 X had similar issue after EMUI 9.1 upgrade and turned out to be contacts sync system app constantly trying to sync contacts. Force stop and cleared data and all good now.
I have the same issue on regular mate 20 since the last software update to EMUI 9.1.0. All the suggested solutions here did not resolve the issue. If someone has more suggestions please share
I fixed it. It's a system application called "Contacts Sync" disabling it solved the issue for me.
Settings > apps > show system processes > search for Contacts Sync > disable and force close it

This didnt work for me, but i found another solution. I stopped almost all apps from autostart. except email and messangers. that immediately solved the issue and the phone boots much faster as well, nice sideeffect
You need to go into battery usage and then click on the individual app, then app launch.
I hope that helps

I just noticed this on my mate 20x on 9.1 on vibrate mode. Did your solution permanently resolve this issue or do you have to do it multiple times or after restarts?

Yes it did. I force close it and disabled it from app settings. Never came back
