5Z will be launched in US soon - Asus Zenfone 5Z Guides, News, & Discussion

According to an post by ASUS on their Zentalk forum, the 5Z will be launched in the U.S. soon.
I can confirm that the ZS620KL will be launched in the US soon.
Any further details regarding this, please stay tuned to our announcement

Big questions now are what does 'soon' mean and which version (A, B, or C) will be launched.

Response to which version question on Zentalk:
If my information is correct, the version that will be available in the USA is version B.
But please note that the information posted here is not final. Please refer to our official website for final specifications when available. Thank you

That's good news for us U.S. folks since version B seems to have many more LTE bands used here.

I hope soon means this week sometime

Yes and no.... My understanding (someone correct me if I'm wrong) is it'll probably get LTE on bands 3 or 5 but the other AT&T bands aren't supported so you may not get great LTE coverage.

These are At&T 4g lte bands 2, 4, 5, 12, 17 1900, 1700 abcde, 700

So i better wait for the usa model

I think they just added the 5Z to the US website in the last day or two (link: https://www.asus.com/us/Phone/ZenFone-5Z-ZS620KL/). I'm pretty sure it wasn't there earlier in the week. Hopefully that means the US launch is very soon. Not sure what that $1,999 price is though....probably just a placeholder for whatever the final price will be.

I'm guessing a 4th of July release

The 4th is when it's coming out in India. While I could get announced/released on the 4th in the US, I have a feeling it won't. My guess is an announcement sometimes within the next two weeks with a release mid-july

ASUS rep. confirmed that 5Z will be released in the US, but the 5 won't (only the global version, which is already available). The 5Z will be released in mid or late August. (This date is also confirmed on phonearena: https://www.phonearena.com/news/Asus-ZenFone-5Z-ROG-Phone-release-date-US_id106236)
Personally I think it sucks that they announce a phone in February, but you can only buy it in (late) August. Though the phone is already available in Europe and many parts of Asia it should be noted that the 5Z's camera app is unfinished. It doesn't even have pro mode and panorama mode, while the cheaper Zenfone 5 has all of these features.

That timing sucks. I was hoping it would be available sooner. In my quest to find the perfect phone for my needs, I picked up an Essential phone and surprisingly I really like it (I thought it would be too small and I've read tons of negatives about it online). I'll probably still pick up a 5Z when it's available because I really like the 5 except for the speed (it's not horrible but it is slow compared to the current 835/845 phones).

Mid to late August is ridiculous. Chances are I'll end up getting a U12+ before then as I need to upgrade soon. I was really looking forward to this device.

They should be running the same app as they are both using the exact same camera (as far as I know anyway). Weird. Maybe it's just a Play Store update away.

Wish they would hurry up

I'm glad it'll be available soon. The silver model isn't available for pre-order yet...hopefully that'll change very soon.

Good. The day after my birthday so I'll make sure I grab it sometime around then

I don't like that they're limiting the US version to 64GB internal. I know it has expandable storage, but I've had bad experiences with SD cards in the past, and some apps just want to use the internal storage.
I did find a 256GB version at banggood here, but I've never bough from them, and while it doesn't specifically say which version it is (A/B/C), I'm thinking C because it lists bands for CDMA, which only the C version has (according to ASUS' site)

It's possible a 256GB (w/ US warranty...) variant doesn't exist. I would take the listing with a grain of salt until it pops up on another US store like Bestbuy or Newegg.
It's also likely that the Amazon page is incomplete or a WIP.
Edit: It says this in the Q&A section
"Only the 64GB version is being offered in the North American region."

Nexus 5 LTE Band support

OK, so far we have some info on the D820 (via the FCC) and D821 (via the leaked service manual).
D820: LTE bands 2/4/5/17/25/26/41
D821: LTE B1, B3, B5, B7, B8, B20
D821 looks like a good match for European, African and most Asian LTE bands, and D820 looks like a match for American & South American LTE bands. China does not appear to be well covered by either model, so there may be a third model if the Nexus 5 is released there.
--------------------------------------
UK:
D820: No carriers
D821: EE (3, 7, 20) 3, (3, 20), O2 (20), Vodafone (7, 20)
US:
D820: Sprint (25, 26, 41), AT&T (2, 4, 5, 17), T-Mobile (4)
D821: No carriers
Philippines
D820: Smart Communication (5)
D821: Smart Communication (1, 3, 5)
--------------------------------------
Please post below with which model is supported by which carriers in your country, and I'll add it to the post.
--------------------------------------
Two models, two spec revisions (with inexplicably lost bands), or the same model with bands 'locked off' for different region (is there a regulatory precedent for this, e.g. WiFi channel 14)? My guess is that the hardware is the same and the bands are locked off somewhere in the firmware, but maybe someone familiar with the chipsets can chime in as to their capabilities?

Its possible that the bands are modem locked. ie with n4 lte band 4. We really won't be able to tell until we get our hands on one.
So officially now, no Verizon love at all.

Where is the official proof no Verizon support?
Sprint uses bands 25, 26, and 41 for U.S. version.
AT&T uses bands 4, and 17 on Nexus 5.
T-Mobile has just band 4 from the looks of it.

Sorry, I shouldn't say official. It hasn't been announced but the bands listed above do not include Verizon's LTE network. Apparently it supports band 4 wich Verizon is supposed to roll out in the future but everyone else is supported in the US. Even US Cellular just no Verizon from the looks of it.
Ugh thanks. F Verizon. Haha

So there is still a glimmer of hope haha, but knowing Verizon (angry Gnex owner here) and not carrying the Nexus 4, I would not be surprised if they don't support the N5.

I don't know why they just don't do like the Nexus 7 2013 and just put the Verizon bands in there. Verizon won't be happy but with N7 owners, they were able to activate a SIM in another device, then put it in the N7 for service. They just couldn't activate the SIM in the N7.
Verizon is a pain. My GNex is feeling the pain of Verizon but still overall a great device with tons of dev support.
I do remember there being some issues with the GNex release about signal strength and had a technical support nightmare. Plus the problem of Google releasing CDMA source code in AOSP. Not sure how Sprint does it.
Even if Verizon LTE isn't supported now, would it still work for voice service (3G speeds)?
There is mention of the Radio having an adjustable tuner. Perhaps it can tune in to Verizon LTE unofficially.
Verizon uses LTE 13 currently but plans on expanding to 4.
Having Verizon LTE support is still moot if the CDMA voice fall back isn't there. This after all a phone and Verizon doesn't have vo/lte. This makes the the situation with the new N7 different.

In my opinion D820 will also have "Band 3" support.
It's the most used band in the world. And it will be very stupid to sell a Nexus 7 2013 US edition with Band 3 support...and a Nexus 5 without it.
Since, the Nexus is a phone it's more required when travelling than an LTE tablet.
Also, people told me that the FFC doesn't need to approve that Band so we still have no info about this.

I've just dug in Google for a few minutes, and I can't find any info supporting this...the FCC seeks approval on all bands under its perview, to ensure there's no disruption to other frequencies. The fact its a 'world' band is immaterial for release in the US..it would still receive testing/verification.
I am a bit disappointed by the two models, would have preferred a single model that supports all the bands listed (don't know if that is technically possible yet). I travel a lot to the UK and it would have been nice to have LTE while there.

The contest wasn't that the D821 would not support band 3 (as you say, the manual clearly states it), but that the D820 would (the FCC filing made no mention of band 3 being among the supported LTE bands).
The FCC website is inaccessible for the moment due to American governmental sillyness, so it's not possible to see if the D820's details have been updated.

[Q] What are the Droid phones sold as internationally

Hiya Everyone
Sorry for the question. In the UK we don't have the "Droid" brand name - no Verizon Wireless here.
Just wondering if they are marketed under another name in the rest of the world?
We have the Moto X & G over here, and like many others I am sure would like to look out for its arrival.
Thanking you all in anticipation.
AFAIK they are not sold as anything...VZW has the exclusive rights to sell Droid branded phones...
there is talk of a non-Droid variant of this phone that apparently passed through the FCC here in the states that would bring it to other carriers...that would be the device you would be looking for...but who knows how long (if ever) it will take to release...
apparently you can also have VZW unlock the phone so it can be used on GSM networks...might be something to look into...
this phone is quite the conundrum in that sense...when it launches, on paper it will be THE most decked out phone specs wise on the planet...yet it will be available (officially) through one carrier, in one country...VZW either has pics of Moto naked, or they really make a lot of money together

I think the one you're referring to is the "Moto X Play", which is a re-brand of the Droid Turbo, supposedly. When it passed through the FCC it had the LTE bands for T-Mobile and AT&T, which may be compatible outside the US.. I don't really know enough about the GSM side of things to be sure on that, though.
Fingers crossed cos it sounds like a Nexus killer

Droid always stays on US territory.
There's rumours about a At&t and Tmobile version.
i Recommend did what i did last year, i checked the specs of Droid maxx, i saw the bands were compatible with my country (mexico), and i saw all LTE verizon phones were unlocked and voila! i bought it and i was a happy droid maxx user on mexico even with LTE, everything worked perfectly.
this year its gonna be the same.
i recommend you to do the same.
Exactly what I'm wondering, I would be an N6 buyer but I've already had the big phones and I've come to the conclusion that at around 5 inch or a little more the extra size becomes more hassle to me than its worth. Not saying anything against these plus sized phones but they are not for me. I travel a lot though and I want a completely unlocked and unbranded phone. I'm hoping this one will see the light of day as an international version, if it does and its on kit kat I'm in.
At the moment I am seriously considering buying this LTE version if the bands are compatible and getting it shipped to the UK.
I too feel that the size of the Galaxy Note 3 / 4 is big enough.

I may have this completely wrong, if so, I will take any amendments in good nature!
Been following the Turbo for a while along with the N6 (which is just too big for me) to replace my N5.
Have investigated the issue of getting it unlocked (am with 3 on One Plan and no intention of leaving any time soon!) and shipped here and what bands it would use etc and this is what I have found (corrections welcome):
As far as I can see, in the UK, we use the following....
GSM
3 use bands 800 & 1800
EE use 1800 & 2600
O2 use 800
Vodafone use 800
LTE
3 use 20 & 3
EE use 3 & 7
O2 use 20
Vodafone use 20
The Verizon Droid Turbo has the following:
CDMA/EVDO Rev A (850, 1900 MHz)
LTE Cat 4 (Bands 2, 3, 4, 7, 13)
Carrier Aggregation (B4+13)
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz)
So as far as I can see, it will work on on both 3G & 4G over here in the UK? If someone more knowledgeable could answer for certain, that would be a great help.

[Q] Changing/Adding LTE bands?

Hi All!!
Was just wondering if it is at all possible to replace or add/unlock additional LTE bands on our AHD?
As it stands now: ATRIX HD has the following bands and frequencies: LTE 700 and 1700 / 2100 (Bands 4, 17). Both USA.
The problem is LTE was introduced quite recently here in Pakistan and the frequency/band they are using is 1800MHz (Band 3, I believe?). So I can use 3G internet with my AHD but not the LTE.
Now as our phone is also based on the MSM8960 chipset, I did a quick research to see what other MSM8960 chipset phones have in terms of LTE bands. Quite a few do have the 1800MHz freq I need.
RAZR HD: LTE 800 / 1800 / 2600 (Bands 3, 7, 20)
RAZR HD XT925: LTE 700 (Band 13)
RAZR M XT905: LTE 1800 / 2600 (Bands 3, 7)
Photon Q XT897:LTE 1900 (Band 25)
HTC Windows 8X:LTE 700 / 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 (Bands 2, 4, 5, 17) - AT&T
BB Z10:LTE 800 / 900 / 1800 / 2600 (Bands 3, 7, 8, 20) - STL100-2
And I did visit the official Qualcomm page and they say the MSM8960 has "world/multimode" LTE.
Now my question is are we limited by hardware or software?
And this is where I need help understanding the following link:
1) Look at Page 3 of the following PDF file. This shows a complete hardware breakdown of our AHD phone. It shows the various PA (Power Amps) and other components the phone has as well as how data flows. According to this, is our phone limited by hardware to just the bands we have now or is it possible to unlock new bands and use them?
http://www.techinsights.com/uploadedFiles/Public_Website/Content_-_Primary/Marketing/2013/techinsights-motorola-atrix-hd-mb886.pdf
Also the following photo proves that the RTR8600 transceiver on our AHD is capable of LTE @ 1800MHz (Look at 4th Gen column): http://images.anandtech.com/doci/6541/IAR Summit Nov 2012_Serge_Jim_Page_20.png
If not limited by hardware. Has anyone heard of a software called "Qualcomm Prod Support Tool" I ask this because I came across "QPST?" which claims to unlock the bands on Qualcomm processors. While keeping the existing bands unharmed.
This link shows how to use QPST:
2) http://galaxys4root.com/galaxy-s4-t...aws-bands-on-att-galaxy-s4-sgh-i337sgh-i337m/
Also found a thread about QPST WRT Samsung S5:
3) http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-add-rf-lte-frequency-bands-to-t2886059
So.
1. Has anyone here ever used QPST or know of any other method to unlock bands (if at all possible)?
2. Can we just flash modem firmware (baseband) from another MSM8960 phones to enable LTE frequencies on AHD? Asking this as CM11 for MSM8960 works on all devices and hardware of all the MSM8960 phones (similar drivers?)
Any and all help/guidance on the matter will be greatly appreciated as my other alternative is replacing the phone I bought not 6 months ago. Also I know of all the legal concerns on this matter as I am not in EU or US I believe I am at little risk of FCC coming after me My point is, please add useful and knowledgeable replies to this thread concerning the topic at hand instead of telling me FCC or AT&T will catch me..
I'm currently rooted with Phil'z Touch recovery(unlocked BL) and CM11. Phone is not locked to AT&T.
Thanks in advance!

And this is where I need help understanding the following link:
1) Look at Page 3 of the following PDF file. This shows a complete hardware breakdown of our AHD phone. It shows the various PA (Power Amps) and other components the phone has as well as how data flows. According to this, is our phone limited by hardware to just the bands we have now or is it possible to unlock new bands and use them?
http://www.techinsights.com/uploade...2013/techinsights-motorola-atrix-hd-mb886.pdf

Hmm...
Enabling of additional LTE bands has failed so far on xt897 (Photon Q).
If you're interested to see what has been tried so far, see this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2275748
You should pay special attention to the research done by stargo - his posts in the second half of the thread and the link to his utility source...

I don't have the Photon Q, but it is always good to have feedback on other msm8960 devices. I'll check the link out in a sec
EDIT: Has anyone with the Photon Q tried the steps in the link above?

Thank you for the info :good:..
I just checked the links and he is failing and the modem keeps crashing but Photon Q has just the one band 25 activated by default? Maybe Moto and Sprint have a thing going there where they limited the hardware to keep the price down and prevent customer from taking their phone to rival networks?
AHD is also used by Bell in Canada I believe.. and they also use band 7 in addition to AT&T's bands 4 and 17? So their might be some hardware in AHD to use the additional bands? Of course this is all my guess work.. however..
@palmbeach05 said that he has successfully activated all bands.. I hope it was for AHD and that he got a chance to test them out That makes me think we have different hardware to Photon Q and gives me hope it would work for me too if it worked for another user?
Look the following link: http://www.comparecellular.com/cell-phones/motorola-atrix-hd-lte/specifications.asp
It lists Bell's variant of AHD capable of ONLY Band 7 for LTE... while in the US they enabled Bands 4 and 17 for AT&T? If this is accurate then we have hardware limited by firmware/software.. and additional bands could be unlocked?
I just need Band 3.. don't mind blocking the rest if that makes the device more stable as I don't travel a whole lot..
AT&T specs on the Atrix HD MB886 -
AFAIK it should be LTE (700 (band 17)) / (1700/ 2100 (band 4)) .
Band 4 is AWS which uses both 1700 & 2100 for up/down but is just referred to by 1700.
Bell LTE bands (from Wikipedia) are 700b (band 17), 1700 (band 4), 2600 (band 7).
From research it seems Bell Canada had 1700 (AWS band 4) up and running in 2011 and then got 2600 (band 7) up and running in July 2012 - the exact time frame they launched the Atrix HD.
While they (Bell) didn't get any 700b (band 17) until they launched last year - 2014.
So it would seem that the HD was indeed running on 2600 when launched by Bell IMO.
I'm quite sure that if @palmbeach05 said he had all bands working then he did.

Waiting for confirmation from him on whether he got this done for AHD or another MSM8960 phone...
1. I think that the biggest battle is getting the PC, software & HD all on the same page - If you know what I mean. Once you get the software to recognize the HD in the correct way your mostly done. I started to do this but had issues and thought I'd save it for another day.
2. I know that Qualcomm regretted leaving the MSM8960 open to DIY reprogramming as they soon updated how they did things - none of their later model chips have this ability.
3. There are some handy programs on the Play Store for computing the NV values
See----->>>> Qualcomm NV Calculator & LTE Band Calculator
4. If you succeed please keep us posted TIA

Just woke up for the day. Yes i did do that unlocking method for the AHD. To check what bands are available, hit *#*#4636#*#* and go to phone info and the three dot menu in the upper right hand corner. You are able to select preffered bands in this menu, which will allow you to make it a global phone instead of just LTE. I'm in the US, so i can only vouch for ATT bands. I haven't tried switching my apns and service to TMobile to check if they are up and running too, but i think i might do that later on today to test it out.
NOTE - Global sticks all the time, including on reboots, when selected while using CM11. CM12 is having issues on that at the moment

Update - Global finally sticks on 3/10 builds. It must have gotten fixed with all those commits that got pushed out between 3/4 and 3/10 builds
Sorry for not being able to respond for a while.. the week's been crazy and sadly this one looks to be following the same pattern.
So.. I didn't get a chance to try anything out as yet coz of several reasons..
First I lost my phone and thank God there are still good people left on this Earth coz one of them attended my call and brought it back to me!
Secondly my mobile operator is giving me a headache getting that LTE enabled sim.. so waiting for that.. and one top of that I've been busy..
So I apologise but please know that I've not given up on this and will give this a shot soon..

Global Version 128Gb - B20 or not??

Anybody with Global Version 128/8Gb can confirm band 20 (800Mhz)
One of colegue on forum have 128Gb from Asus UK and seems like without band 20.
So confused.
Thanks for help.
Sent from my BLA-L09 using Tapatalk
Only elite and ultimate version have B20. Strix, tencent and global 128GB not.
I'm sat next to my mate, he is on Samsung S9 - band 20 4g Vodafone UK, my direct from asus 128gb uk phone isnt. Even though I'm pretty sure the website says it has b20
Annoying as bought UK vesrion for full coverage and it doesn't do it! EE signal isn't good where I work, guess I'll have to try O2 and see what 4g band they have near by
Here's what ASUS' customer service said:
The ROG Phone II Strix edition does unfortunately not support LTE Band 20. Only the Ultimate and Elite edition does support FDD-LTE band 20, you can check this here: https://www.asus.com/Phone/ROG-Phone-II/Tech-Specs/ under Network Standard.

So unfortunately no B20 for the 128GB version
From asus, but this info is different to their site, it's split into models! But cheeky:!
https://www.asus.com/Phone/ROG-Phone-II/Tech-Specs/
Why sell a phone in the UK that doesn't work!? I should have just bought the cheaper tencent version. Dont like this phone any more, grrrrrr.
Here we go again, asus selling faulty products. What a joke.
I wonder what Kind of bull**** they will create for rog phone 3.
It's my one and only Asus!
Thought I'd take a punt, regret it now
I've put an official complaint in, as the UK site implies it has band 20.
Doubt anything will come of it though.....
Can You share link to Asus website where is this info. I will sent complain as well.

Well ASUS are and absolute joke. Their website has changed, so they know the info was wrong. Link I posted above no longer works.
They said I should have checked the sellers site for the info, not their site, as it's only general information. WTF, you make the phone ASUS, if anyone should have the right info, it's you!
Secondly, I did buy it from Asus site, just a third party fullfiled the order. And they have said they didn't have that information anyway.
So no-one has the correct information apparently!
Who I bought it from said it's too late to send back and if I do, I'll have to pay a restocking fee, no idea what that is, but I asked them anyway.
Just a joke, I bought this on false information that has been taken away now and Asus have said nothing helpful, just they are sorry for any inconvenience.....
I'm so furious.
Can't believe. That can say some seller from Aliexpress. Sorry I'm put wrong info on offer.
But how official ASUS website can be wrong. IT'S JOKE.
Sent from my Mi 9T Pro using Tapatalk
According to ASUS, AliExpress would be more accurate!
Yup, complete joke.
Shame I'll have to keep the phone for a few years now to warranty the cost.....actually, the phone is great, the connectivity is terrible.
Such a shame....
Wait wait wait hol' up. If my carrier supports LTE (4G): 800/1800/2600MHz does that mean I won't be able to use 4G LTE or what???? I was just about ready to buy the global version of this phone.
The phone supposedly supports 1800Mhz (apparently that's gotta be a B3 band) . My question - do certain bands provide more or less coverage or is it all the same? I'm not sure whether I need to have both 800Mhz and 1800Mhz or just one of those bands and I don't want to lose 4G all the time because 800Mhz is more covered than 1800Mhz.
The bands the ROG Phone 2 supports:
GSM: B2, B3, B5, B8
WCDMA: B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B8
FDD-LTE: B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B7, B8, B28
TDD-LTE: B34, B38, B39, B40, B41
Clarification would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
You'll have to check what bands all the providers use and perhaps a map of where towers are and the band they have there.
Most UK networks are band 20, which is why I'm on 3G 99% of the time

How do you tell if global variant is version a or b?

After no one could answer this question properly,
I found out more info on it myself and find the following information to be 100% accurate. Here's the only way to find out what it is. Tested and proved by asking for pics of manuals in the box from sellers, and asus support.
Triangle box alone doesn't mean anything. If Model number on the bottom of the triangle box matches taiwan( ZS661KS - 6A015TW) or U.S model number (Not released yet) and box says 512gb + 12gb or 16gb ram, it is guaranteed to be version A that has all the bands for global use.
If triangle box is any other model number, there's a 50/50 chance that it will be a or b. Only way to find out is by going to the bands page in the manuals in the box.
If it says tencent and comes in a rectangular box, it is guaranteed to be version b with less bands not recommended to use on U.S carriers.
If it says 865 (not 865 plus) in triangle box which is the strix edition, its guaranteed version b.
Here's a pic of version b bands inside global variant of 512gb 12gb ram rog phone 3. Zs661ks-6a026ww https://ibb.co/3zM1sLm
https://ibb.co/LPT9pS6
Another way of knowing which model comes in both version a and b is by going to the asus website and changing the region. You'll see only taiwan and u.s has version a only models. The other regions come in both a and b versions so again its a 50/50 chance with those.
Good luck purchasing the phone. I went ahead with ordering oneplus 8 pro over the rog 3 for my needs
Seconded. I would also like to know this, since apparently the SKU isn't going to say (mine has the SKU of 6A027WW, which Hong Kong's Asus store's website assures supports US bands, but I'm still a little concerned since mine's also apparently supposed to be a Strix phone when it doesn't even mention Strix on the back).
There needs to be a guide on how to tell which phone is which. Tencent? Elite? Classic? Strix? 8/12/16GB RAM? 128/256/512GB storage? A or B version?
For Tencent, it is easy. There's only square box and it will say Tencent on the box. All Tencent sets are version B.
For ROG Phone 3 (865+), the square box is version B and 6 prism box is version A. For Strix, both square and 6 prism boxes are version B. There is no version A.
How to tell between Strix and ROG Phone 3? See the box label. It will say 865 or 865+.
All Global variants are Version B.
American market version is Version A (more network bands overall)

That's wrong. I emailed asus and they said it should mention the version on the box. Also, the band support is written in the manuals in the box.
There's Version a and b in the global variants for Hong Kong, Singapore, and like 2 other countries. A version a only model is only for u.s which is not released yet, Taiwan and germany. This does not include the tencent or strix models. Those are seperate.

Go to asus website and change the region to Singapore. It should list version a and b. I confirmed it also by asking ebay sellers. There was a specific seller with the Singapore model because I checked up the model number who checked the manuals in the box and sent me a picture confirming it was version b.
I researched everything I said from asus website, confirming with ebay sellers that were in possession of the item and now have shared my results above since no one knew the answers.
In the end, I went with ordering the oneplus 8 pro because it was ip68 rated and could not find any water resistant cases to use on the rog for the gym. Good luck guys.

That doesn't mean they're all version a. It specifically mentions versions a and b so that means it could be either of them.

Asus SG is just plain lazy to modify the spec sheet. They copied and pasted from Asus global spec sheet, changing only the Memory section. Ebay sellers? Likely to be scammer. Asus SG only distribute version A. There are lots of export set floating around 3rd party sellers in Singapore. Asus Singapore model is ZS661KS-6A026WW.

Like I said, the seller sent me pictures of the box and manuals for ZS661KS-6A026WW and the manuals inside showed band support for version b. The seller had multiple in stock and sold many with good ratings. I already did all the necessary research and contacted asus and they told me to check the box and manuals. So yes, I'm right. There's version a and version b for some of the global variants including the Singapore variant.

Well, user manual in the box is the same for all.
https://www.asus.com/us/Phone/ROG-Phone-3/HelpDesk_Manual/
Take a look at the US english manual. It is not version A. So does that means USA does not have version A?
So does the ebay seller have a "Version A" set with the full RF bands listed in the user manual?

I'm in Malaysia. Asus Malaysia also seems to carry both Version A and B. But we also get the lower end 8GB Strix model.
I was told that only the Strix version is Version B while the other ROG models (prism box) is version A. However like I said I cannot get a consistent answer for this. The best I can get is that HK Asus site lists my SKU (ZS661KS-6A027WW) as supporting the necessary bands. Seems that whole of Asia gets the WW version.
Is there a way to figure out if the ROG 3 is "version A" or "version B" based on the retail package info, prior to buying the phone?

That's just 1 or 2 models translated in different languages. If you change region on asus website, you should see a couple of different models with different manuals. Just send the seller a message asking for the bands specification in the manuals if you're buying a global variant. If you want to be sure you're getting version a, buy the taiwan or the upcoming u.s model. Both only come in version a.
Hello my model is zs661ks-6a012cn global rom.I would like to know if this is version A or B?Inside the box i found a manual in chinese language but does not refer to network bands.

Does it smell like Samsung Note 20 copper vs graphite again?
My local Asus said they do not know and have no info on Version A or B.
If its in triangle box its A version. Its simple guys. Stop overthinking it.

Wrong. Triangle box alone doesn't mean crap. If Model number on triangle box says 512gb + 12gb or 16gb ram and matches taiwan or U.S model number, it is guaranteed to be version A.
If triangle box is any other model number, there's a 50/50 chance that it will be a or b. Only way to find out is by going to the bands page in the manuals in the box.
Proof is a guy sent me manuals inside triangle box of Singapore global variant and bands matched b.
How do we know which model number refers to which country?
Also, aren't all CN (tencent) models same as "Version B" network bands?
