How to force USB to charge only? - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Is there a setting or an app that will force USB to go charge only on the note 8? My use case is when I plug into my car I want it to charge only and not try to read my device. I have to hit several buttons on the car just to get the car to ignore my phone. Thanks

Developer options / USB configuration !
MTP should be pre selected. Just switch to charge only.
To enable developer options go to settings / about phone / software informations and tap 7 times the build number entry

Can't you just pull down notifications, click notification that says "USB for file transfer. Tap for other USB options." and select "Charge this phone"?
Edit: At least it says this when connected to PC, not sure about car though. Just do what Logel posted above.

Do as logel says

Quick USB storage access

Hi guys. Anyone knows of quick access to USB storage on SGN (or market app)? I mean while having DHD, I just plugged USB cable and from notification bar switched to USB disk storage and in 1 or 2 clicks that was it. With SGN I have to go first to settings, then wireless and network, then USB utilities, then tap connect to PC, after that plug the cable and then tap connect again ... pretty silly . If the cable was in the meantime plugged only for charging, so have to unplug and then replug ...
Any clue? Thanks.
Thought u should be able to access it via e pull-down notification bar when u connect to usb device...

Well, the pull down menu only shows MTP connected and when you tap on it nothing happens ...
Turn on USB Debugging and it will work as described.

How to configure Smart Connect depending on a specific BT device

Hi Guys,
I want to configure Smartconnect to switch on Hotspot when connected to my Car-BT. I found the action "switch on Howpot" but for trigger nothing to configure for one specific BT device that connects. So idea is to configure "If connected to BT device XY (one of the paired ones) shall trigger Hotspot on, if diconnected Hotspot Off again"
Am I missing here something? Anyone knows how this shall work?
Thanks Gescha
(Did also not find a solution by searching for Smart Connect here)
Found it. Special Bluetooth connection is listed while connected. Then it can be choosen. Solved.

Connecting to a pc

I'm on the latest update (8.1.0 may security) and I'm trying to connect my 7 plus to my PC, but nothing happens. The PC doesn't install any drivers and my phone isn't showing up in devices. I'm not getting the notification I'm supposed to get on my phone either, the phone is charging though. I have tried to connect to different PC:s as well.
Does anyone else have this problem?
@Floyd
Have you enabled developer mode and set USB debugging to on? Otherwise drivers or not the PC will not communicate with the Nokia.

When the phone is plugged into PC make sure
that on the status bar it is not showing charging on USB but MTP (file transfer) other than that it must be driver related.

As Stransky said, did you enable File transfer or MTP from notification bar on the phone?
You won't get notifications on PC if USB is set for charging only.

Exactly same problem here, my Nokia 7 Plus only says charching and I don't get a notifiaction. My PC also doesn't react.
Have you found any solution yet?
Unplug the cable. Enable developer options, then find "default USB configuration" and change it to mtp. Replug the cable

since it doesn't even recognize that the device was connected to the pc, it was a guess. you can also try to plug it into a different USB port. for me, it did recognize the connection itself but it did not install the MTP driver properly. i just manually installed it from here: c:\Windows\INF\wpdmtp.inf (right click and install)
Going to settings -> System -> about phone, and then find the 'Build number' option, several click it until system ask for password to enable developer mode. After done this, return to settings -> System, find the 'Developer options' and click it, and enable the 'USB debugging' option. Now using the command 'adb devices' will show our phones.
Well I had same issue with Nokia 6.1 plus running 8.1.0 but I was using 3rd party cable which din't support data transfer except charging phone. So I used OEM Foxconn original charging cable and it quickly detect my phone and installed driver itself. try changing cable and turn on USB Debugging if needed.
Is this how you solved it bro, doesn't seem to be working for my phone?
Try a different cable. I had the same issue now and the problem was the cable I was using wasn't fit for data transfer. When I tried a cable which came with the phone it worked.
With the old cable I tried all the suggestions and nothing worked. I would connect the phone to my PC and it would only charge but no option to choose USB mode (file transfer).
Tried another cable and the USB mode option came up straight away. Hope it helps someone

Car USB

Hi,
I really hope someone can help me!
I've recently switched from iPhone to Android. Previously with my iPhone when plugging the phone in via USB it'd basically turn into an iPod and allowed me to play music through the speakers of the car. But with my Android (Huawei P20 Pro) I just get an error message on the car's screen saying "No supported data found". My car does not support Android Auto so that's a no go.
Does any one know any settings can be changed to allow me to play music via the car speakers using USB?
Cheers
Chris
Make sure the phone USB settings are set for Audio source or MTP. When plugged in the phone should show a pop up showing USB options you need to choose MTP or Mass Storage Mode. Another option is enable developer options and set it to default to MTP, to enable developer options goto settings, about phone, and keep tapping build number 7 times. You will get a new option called developer options. In there scroll to "select USB options" about half way down and there you can change the USB options. But im not sure if this will affect charging etc so take a note of what it is before changing so you can change back if it dont work. To be honest you should just get the notification on the phone when plugged into the USB, make sure you check the notifications area as its sometimes hidden there.
If you don't see a pop-up menu, just swipe from the VERY top of the screen, you should see USB options as described by marshyrob

Automating USB Storage Popup.

Hi Guys,
I need help for creating a profile/task in tasker that will automatically unlock my device and then auto click on "ALLOW" popup that appears after connecting my phone to pc using usb cable.
I've tried some patterns but no success, so any help would be great..
Thanks
I use Autoinput to make this happen ... It swipes up and then types my lockscreen code and clicks the allow button also... To make it more secure I have set to only allow this to run when my phone is connected to my android watch so it knows I'm near and also connected to my home WiFi as I only really use this at home !
