strange battery behaviour - Moto G5S Plus Questions & Answers

So I recently noticed that my phone charges up really fast for example : from 15% to 50 in 5 minutes then it drains even faster. So I recalibrated the battery, I drained the phone completely then charge fully while it was powered off, then it showed me 100% and when I turned on the phone it was 92%!! Is my battery dieing? Anyone knows what could cause this problem?

Something is weird with my battery too it gets stuck at 27 % and when I recalibrated it showed me original percentage but after that it charges slowly

Haven't found a solution yet so I am trying to send for repair now

I fixed mine by calibrating battery lever indicator.
It's not the battery that's dying, it's the battery lever indicator that showing wrong info. You can check this by restarting device while on charging. After reboot you'll see actual percentage that the battery is charged upto. For example, It will show 100% charge, but after reboot it says 75 %.
Here's what you gotta do
Hold down power key for few seconds until the boot logo appears. Charge your device to 100% and let it charge for an additional hour.

Recalibrating is not draining ur battery completely and recharging it.
The procedure is:
Lond press ur power button and hold it like that( don't leave) untill the moto boot symbol appears
When the power menu appears, touch in the other hand on the reboot option.
Mean while connect your charger when u tap on your reboot!
Note: don't leave the power button untill the moto boot logo is appeared on the screen

Format your phone

Or flash again with Lenovo Moto software upgrader from pc

My phone was is service, changed the battery and everything is ok now! Seems like a lot Moto phones have a faulty battery having similar problems.

Help! Battery won't charge past 70%

I didn't notice this problem until the day before. My battery status is displaying 70% when the phone consider it to be fully charged.
I've drain it to 5% before charging overnight, but the status still display 70%.
I am not sure if this is a problem with my phone or the battery. Any help would be nice.
Try this but you need a rooted phone for it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=722862
it is just a status bar bug
the battery is probably fine
use Gauge Battery Widget instead to see the real stuff
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8124361&postcount=46
Thank you for the link!! I am trying that now.
This is not the status bar problem as I've test out some of the widget.
The phone would only charge up to 70% no matter how long it will remain on the charge.
Going into the battery info in setting also indicated it is at 70%.
At this moment I am draining my phone with max brightness and everything turn on.
Start off at 70% at 9:30am and now (2:00pm) is at 3%
So I guess I should try to charge it full with the phone off
Did you recently flash firmware to your phone? Make sure your battery is fully charged whenever you flash firmware because it will clear the battery data. It seems to me all you need is a battery calibration. There is a procedure posted somewhere. IIRC, you need charg up the battery to 100%, power down, charge 100%, power up again and repeat a few times.
I had the same problem.
After a day of charging the battery fully charged notification appears. As soon as I unplug it the battery immediatly jumps to 70%.
Is there a way to fix this? Perhaps reflashing when the phone is fully charged (which is currently 70%).
I tried the rm /system/data/batterystats.bin but did not remedy this problem.
Same problem here. It has been this way for a month. Tried calibration, different batteries, different ROMS....everything.
who can help?
using alternative battery widget is not an option if battery stats from settings also displays 70% max
this is very unusual problem - i would suggest:
1) install https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration (phone needs root)
2) drain battery to 0%
3) take out battery for 5-7 minutes
4) put it back and turn on and drain again
5) repeat untill phone will not turn on
6) while still off charge phone to 100%
7) disconnect charger power on the phone, let it boot and use the battery calibration app
8) now let the phone discharge with normal usage untill it powers off (do not reboot, power off during discharge)
9) put the phone to charger, turn it on and let it charge to 100% wo reboots/poweroffs
should be fine
let me try tomorrow..I have similar issue..
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Today, over night charge from 70% to 79%
have you followed my tutorial from this post -> LINK
also can you dial *#*#4636#*#* pick battery information and make a screenshot, then another after a minute or two ...
I made this thread over in the captivate forums, it explains the issues in detail
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1279925
What rom/kernal are you guys using?...
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
concentrate on points 2 to 5 of my 'tutorial' and for god sake use only original charger
and yes, what kernel
Hey Somator, I am trying your tutorial now. I drained my battery to 0% on my phone. I then would boot it up, it would register 1%, then turn off.
I then put my battery in a coworkers phone today and it read 40% when it previously read 0% on mine. So I depleted the battery on his phone, reinserted it into mine, and I am now currently charging it to 100% while it is off. I will let you know how the rest turns out.
I have tried calibration procedures on stock rom, MIUI, CM7, I9000, and I897 Roms.
drain the battery on his if you can and then charge on yours
after that wipe battery stats with https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration
//edit: oh you did exact that - well should be fine from now - still wierd why it just 'decalibrated' by so much in the first place
the original charge has helped me, everything is fine
In case someone is looking for an answer here (considering this is the thread that comes at the top of Google's search results), this is what worked for me:
1. Take the battery out.
2. Plug phone into wall charger.
3. Put the battery back in the phone.
4. Let it charge for an hour. Mine said 5% the entire time it was plugged.
5. Remove phone from charge. Remove battery. Put them all together again.
I hope this works for others.

Xperia Z battery problem

Hi guys my Xperia Z1 was charged to 100% after some use normally went down to 93% next second i pulled the phone out of the pocket it was turned off tried to turn it on got it to vibrate once but nothing showed up on display tried once again few minutzes later it booted up but just went off on bootloader. I came hame and put it on charger phone turned on showing like 50% battery drained it to zero started charging to 100 on 60-70% on charging suddenly went up to 100%
i used phone for 2 days with random reboots and after switching it on showing different percent of battery remaining, today it wont work without charger after i disconect charger phone shuts down. Could anyone tell me if this is problem with battery or its faulty motherboard maybe? thanks
ps. i need fast answer because im about to buy a battery
Tried to boot phone into safe mode and see how it reacts? Also do you use Stamina mode or any other service that changes or reads system properties?
whats the point of booting in safe mode if battery percent is going crazy even when phone is charging wile its shutdown

You have classic symptoms of a dying battery. Replace it and the problems will go away... If you did a search, you would find exactly the same symptoms described by others and the same solution. Your battery can't hold power due to a deterioration of cells.

Xperia Z Battery Drained . Unstable battery

What happened is that, I Drained by battery to zero twice ....first i just charged it and turn it on still charge and works fine but then ....by the second time it didn't turn on (red light flashing)... so what I did is I charged it for about ten minutes then the screen turned on and holding the power button it boots up.....
The problem now is when charging the battery, it gets unstable, it just wont charge ... it will in some occasions very slow, 12 hours about 30% or something .... I formatted (factory format )the phone still nothing happens
what i know is that
1. its not the cable and the charger
2. its not the OS (Lollipop )
Probably its the battery or something
I really dont have the luxury to have this repaired so i was hoping if i can DIY it myself
does anyone know how to deal with this ??

Draining Li-Ion and Li-Poly batteries to zero will cause damage to the battery. I cannot understand why you, or other people do that. These are not Ni-Cd or Ni-MH batteries.

Battery acting weird

Hello everyone, I've had my X4 for one and a half years now and the battery life has been nothing short of fantastic during the period.
But two days back, the battery started acting up pretty weird. I had it on charge and was using it while charging and in some time I noticed the battery percentage remained static for an unusual amount of time. So I unplugged it, and battery immediately dropped by 3 percent and drained down a few percent so fast like it had never before and then stayed at a percent (say 16%) for a long time and then drained normally afterwards.
When I plugged it in again, it charged for a little before getting stuck again (the number at which it gets stuck is random). And I've tried reboots, I've tried killing the phone and charging while it's off (same result).
I was wondering if this could be a problem with the cable or with the battery itself. But then again, the battery has remained stellar until two days ago and I'm confused if it could show its degradation in such a way. I haven't replaced the cable yet, maybe I'll have little luck with that.
Any help or suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks.
That reminded me of something i saw on the motorola support site where I logged in and registered my x4 - top on the help:
"Battery calibration
Back to Previous Page
Battery calibration
If you are experiencing incorrect or inconsistent battery level, quick battery discharge, slow or erratic charging speeds, or sudden power off or rebooting, a battery calibration could correct the problem.
To perform a battery calibration:
Force reboot the device by holding the power button until the device reboots
(For the moto z3 hold volume down + power to force the reboot.)
Plug into supplied charger
Charge to 100% and leave on the charger for at least an additional hour after getting to 100%"
Don't know if that has anything to do with the price of eggs but hopefully it will give you ideas...

May be power controller of the phone is broken too.
Try to charge to 100, then *#0228# and reset battery there, charge again till 100 and reset. Repeat untill battery stay 100 after reset.(on stock rom only)
If won't help go to service.
If you have root access then go with an explorer to "Devise\System\Media"
Look there if there are some files with ###.spi as file name.
Remove all these files and reboot the phone.
Hoop this will help you, on my phone it was working fine with the battery problems you described.
