Show Mode on the 7? - Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is this possible? I'd rather not buy a whole other tablet for this.

Chill dude. Amazon announced extended show <24 hrs ago and explicitly stated no Fire 7. Will some crafty dbag try to port the feature from a HD 8? Probably. Will it work? Likely not (or not well) given limited storage/cpu on Fire 7s and different pixel count between platforms.

Me thinks not due to limited memory on 7" models.

Maybe you're thinking government fiscal year? Different countries have different ways of counting that (Canadian government year is from April 1 to March 31). But I thought when companies announced due dates in quarters they referred to the calendar year?
Meaning: Q1 = January to March, Q2 = April to June, etc.
I thought they announced Flash was pushed back to the 2nd half of the year. . .

Just like it was just supposed to be released back in October 2009? I don't know if we'll ever really see it before an alternative is available.

Aren't the eleven herbs and spices proprietary?
If you try to download flash through adobes website it states that it will be available in the first half of 2010 i.e. hopefully before the start of July.

For what? Flashlight/Tether available without rooting. Updates to froyo available without rooting.
Unless he's a developer with a need for root access, why?

because if he doesnt root, he will burn in that white notification bar causing merpanent image sticking to the pixels at the top of his screen. rooting will let him use a black notification bar. seriously, that's the main reason why i rooted and suggest others to as well. i would wait till his 14 day period is over though. however it only took my phone less than 1 month to already show pixels wear of the notification bar.
i'm curious if he sees any on his brand new unit already.

For all of you Nexus 4 owners, thought this might be of interest.

I wish this would work for Nexus 7. I was thinking some of you might like this.

This makes it so much better than mhl without needing constant power.
How much is the adaptor? And I wonder if we can disable the phone screen during video playback? This combined with undervolting would mean epic battery life when used as a video player.

It sounds geek awesome, then I asked myself what I would ever use it for that I wouldn't use my Xbox or ps3 instead. Nothing was the answer.
I would use it so i could turn my n4 into a Nintendo/super 'tendo console and relive the dream. Some people could use it to record them self and see it live. Steve Wozniak would make live smartphone porn.

plus it should be in the accessories section.

[Q] Any work happening on the 2013 Kindle Fire HD?

The price to specs ratio on the new KF HD (not HDX) looks great. I'm thinking about picking one up for my daughter. If there any work towards root or custom ROMs on this device? If I could load even stock 4.3 onto this device, it would be an instant purchase.

It's gonna be a while.
I came here looking for the same info... I actually have the 2013 model and wanted to put n2a on it, but realized that would not work (why I came here)... Hope it's not too far off... interested in playing with this device more.

What's your opinion of the hardware?
I really like the Fire HD 3rd Gen... It is smooth and clean. I only have the 8GB model but I really look forward to turning it into an Android device soon! It's a waiting game at this point. I am sure someone is working on it... :fingers-crossed:
Someone has started to work on it. @Hashcode is an awesome developer, so you can guarantee there will be something in the future. Check it out here.
Thanks

Someone has reported that they have rooted the 2013 KFHD with binary root located on here. This is just something I saw on here last night from a user. Take that as you will.

Can't access 5 Ghz wireless network

On my Fire HD 8 7th Gen I can't access 5 Ghz networks. It accepts the password, and tires to connect several times before eventually saying "Wi-Fi Connection Failure". 2.4Ghz works fine. This happens on two different devices.
Any idea what could be causing this?
Disregard. Apparently the Amazon Fire doesn't support 802.11ac.

I'm pretty sure they do, but it's an option that isn't available to us in wifi settings which are incredibly limited.

I can't imagine why it wouldn't use the latest standard by default if it has access to it. Are you saying that it's there, but we can't use it w/o root?

Not sure. Like a lot of those hidden settings, they reset at reboot. If I had to guess, something in the framework settings is marked as 'persistent=false'

5th-7th Fire devices (Fire, Fire 7, Fire HD 8) do not support 802.11ac. SOC decision; likely a cost saving measure.

They don't have 5GHz hardware, I was surprised by this as well but it is understandable considering I purchased mine for $35.
